36.12 Superbowl Sunday at Able’s on the Lake

Superbowl Sunday has finally arrived! I’m sure most of you already have plans, but if you don’t, this is one of my favorite places to catch the game.

I love the location. It’s basically a huge patio on Lake Austin. Both their food and drink menus are huge, and they have 63 beers on tap.

The food isn’t bad, and I’m a sucker for their burgers, especially the avocado cheeseburger!

They have 18 TV’s, so you won’t miss any of the big game. I’m not sure who I’m cheering for, since I don’t really care. I’m thinking the Patriots because my dog’s name is Brady.

35.12 Jo’s Chili Cold Blood Chili Cook-Off

In Texas, it’s always chili cook-off season. And for you chili lovers out there, this is your chance to spend your Saturday filling up on delicious chili for a good cause.

Jo’s is pulling out all the stops to make this a day full of great food and tons of fun. They’ll have free two-stepping lessons at 11, followed by a two-stepping contest at noon.

There will be live music, a bake sale, silent auction and more. Basically it’s a day of good food for a great cause, and Jo’s always knows how to have a good time.

Proceeds benefit the Lila Tenebown Recovery Fund.

I love a good glass of wine to get my weekend kicked off right. Join Cedar Valley Spirits tonight for some free wine and art.

They have a broad selection of your favorite adult beverages, as well as a great local selection.

Happy Groundhog Day, First Thursday and anything else you might be celebrating today. And what better way to celebrate Groundhog Day than by watching Groundhog Day?
Bill Murray is awesome, and this was one of his best, where he keeps living the same day over and over again. It’s also one of those movies that I can watch over and over again.

Fittingly, the menu for the Groundhog Day meal will be made using the same ingredients for each course.

Also, don’t forget that tonight is First Thursday on South Congress!

Arc of the Arts Studio & Gallery is an art studio with an important social mission. They work to bridge the gap between people who have developmental disabilities and their community by using art. It is a unique place, and one that serves a socially vital function to many people in Austin.

Tonight they’re having an open house and art show to showcase their artists and their work. Stop in to mix and mingle, and enjoy some light refreshments.

31.12 La Boite Café

Traditionally, trailer food is something usually reserved for lunch or dinner. But at least one trailer, La Boite Café, has managed to become a popular breakfast spot in town, so much so that they opened a new location downtown in October.

They make excellent coffee, particularly espresso, along with croissants, macaroons and sandwiches. The macaroons are to die for, and their croissant maker was named one of America’s top bread bakeries by Bon Appetit! Their simple menu is a home run, and the quality is amazing.

Today is Twofer Tuesday where you can get two sandwiches for the price of one from their Congress location.

You can tell that the husband and wife owners have put a lot of hard work and passion into their café. It is truly one of a kind.

They have probably one of the most unique “trailers” in Austin, as they operate out of reused commercial shipping containers. La Boite means box in French, hence the name.

They are very active on facebook and twitter, so follow them to keep up with the latest on specials and news updates!

Adventure Seekers: Austin Over The Edge 2012

This is one of those rare occasions when you can live on the edge for a good cause. Make-A-Wish has taken it to a new level for thrill seeking. Participants that raise $1,500 will get to rappel down the One America Building on Congress Ave! I participated last year and it truly is a once in a lifetime experience! There are no words to describe the true adrenaline rush as you scale down the side of the One American Center. This picture is a view from the top!

Most Money Raised
Biggest Chicken

This will again be an exciting event for a wonderful cause. And besides, it’s not every day you get the opportunity to rappel down the side of one of Austin’s downtown buildings!

It’s time to celebrate the Chinese New Year with Chinatown Austin. They’re ringing in the Year of the Dragon with a festival full of tons of cool stuff.

They’ll have a rock climbing wall, face painting, games, firecracker displays and plenty of other awesome things. Dragon and Lion Dance Teams will also perform throughout the day, which should make for some great entertainment.

So come out on this beautiful Sunday afternoon and help Chinatown spread the excitement and good fortune of the new year! This is also a great opportunity to check out the Chinatown Center if you’ve never been.

Austin fashionistas, your day has arrived. This biannual event is your opportunity to score some of the best deals from the best places around town. You can find all your favorite local boutiques under one roof with clearance prices!

They have everything from men’s and women’s clothing, handbags, jewelry, children’s apparel, home furnishings and more. I’ve scored the best deals in the past. My advice would be to go early on Saturday. It’s the most crowded, but that’s when you have the biggest selection. You could also go late on Sunday, because some retailers don’t want to pack stuff up, which leads to some amazing prices!
