I have FINALLY made a website for my photography business! FINALLY! I'm still tweaking the layout somewhat and the template. Trying out some different ones here & there to find the best one that works really well for me. I paid for one, and it was smashing, but when you loaded up the invidual posts it was driving me batty! It loaded up the photos for the posting all in the same area and then switched the photos every 3-5 seconds. First issue with that was way too fast. Second was it was loading the photo right directly in the middle of the image, so you couldn't see people's heads!!! Can't have that nonsense, so I removed it today & found lo and behold a free one that looks pretty close to it, but loads the photos up the right way, so you can see the whole image. Soooo much better! Anyways, this is just to notify folks following this blog here, that this will be my crafting-arty-artsy fun blog. I might even get crazy & do some sewing now & then or embroidering and post a blog about it. My Photography Business page will be at 3AMArt.net.

Twitter How To

I've been thinking about this recently. How to use twitter effectively and gain new followers. I have 5000 followers, so maybe I'm qualified to help you out. Maybe not. I mean if I was Pink or someone famous I'd def have far more. But I think I'm doing alright. What I have learned over my years of following, unfollowing, retweeting and so forth is to post a variety of topics. Politics, veganism, etsy listings, photos of the here & now, and more polished photos. I do put some of my instagram pics through there & some from picmonkey, I talk to folks there. I put up quotes. I post random thoughts. I post my blog postings. I follow folks who follow me. I think following everyone back is a large key for effective use of twitter. I use crowdfire to unfollow folks who unfollow me. I find folks who are like minded and follow them. When posting I make sure the link has a pic to go with it or the attached site, if it doesn't work, I take it down. I check my links once posted to make sure they work, if not down it comes. Basically I'm there for twitter. I make sure to take it seriously and follow through. If you want to use autoposting from facebook or elsewhere make sure it's working. Sometimes I see facebook.me posts there & they have no words to explain what the post is about or no picture attached. Nothing to make them interesting to get me to click through, so I don't.

The trick I think is to put out there some interestingness. A reason for folks to click through & follow the link. Like a photo attached, just words can be very boring. Folks don't see any reason to read or click through without a interesting link or photo that they can click through & see larger. Above all it should be fun. Ranty, mad, angry---go get a diary. Spooky Camera Happenings!

OK so you know Halloween is a fav time of year for me. I like ghosts. I like haunted type TV shows on Netflix. Sometimes I see spooky things in my photography. Like the following photo for example. It's of my son fooling around in the leaves in front of Bancroft Tower in Worcester, MA.

Creepy? Do you see it? The weird face on the tree's bark? The face in of itself isn't all that creepy, except that I saw nothing out of the ordinary when shooting that pic. Didn't see the face or OK let's call them spots on the tree at all. Five seconds before this pic, I snapped several others one of my daughter in fact. The tree looks totally different in this instance. Check it out below.

Tower Hill Botanic Garden

Some of my images from Tower Hill Botanic Garden in West Boyston, MA. We got a membership here, so I can take photos of people for many occasions there.

The Glass Conservatory is a wonderful place both in the hot summers and in the cold winters. I love it here. When winter depression hits, this is an amazing place to take the edge off.

Tower Hill is a wonderful place for a photo session in any season. I know many other wonderful places too. Parks, State Parks, Abandoned Gardens, Old Crumbling Buildings. It all depends on the mood you're looking for.

A lovely Meyer Lemon tree full of fruit! These are the trees that inspired me to collect citrus trees. Below a tree of Bromieliads.

We've also been makng use of the place for our hiking & picnic excursions. It's an excellent place for this too. Since we home educate all our children it's been a great place for family fun & enjoyment. The children have had many learning opportunities here too.

The Law & Photography

The other day I was in the park in Springfield, MA. a man rode by me on a bike. Click went my camera. Then I was a little worried. What if he didn't want his photo taken, while he was on his bike? What if he could sue me? What if he could make my life miserable, all due to a tiny lil innocent click of the camera? Well luckily he cannot. Number one reason, no one will know it's him. From the angle I shot the photo, you cannot tell it is anyone in particular. Just a person on their bike, riding by a duck pond. Later on I was snapping my children and a photographer, a local photographer was shooting pics of a family and she accidentally got into my photos too. My camera picked up on her, and the family, but since the focus was mainly on my family, she and that family are blurred. Lucky snap again I thought. These thoughts of mine, got me to thinking about ethics and photography. Photography and the law. What is exactly allowed and what is exactly not allowed, when taking photos out in public?

So in doing that little bit of thinking, I started googling. I found a treasure trove of goodies on the net as far as the law & photography. Photojojo got there before me, so here is their take. But basically if you're out and about in the world in public places, anything you see to photograph is fair game. If there is a sign saying no photography, you should respect it and not photograph it. If you don't, you can have a world of problems legally. Things also of this nature like Government buildings are also something one shouldn't photograph. I once took a snap of a Gov building that had cameras on it, aiming at me, nothing happened to me. That was just a old water tower though. Surely no one cares about that old relic. To better illustrate what I mean it's simple. Places of a secured type nature, like the Pentagon or a military base, you should not take photos of these places and post them on the net or elsewhere. We want security and safety in our country, we should protect these kinds of places. If people are punching in their ATM pin--not allowed. People having drinks on the patio of someone's home--OK if they are OK with it. If you have someone over and take photos of them & they don't know it. Totally illegal. You can get into serious trouble doing that. But that's a whole other topic and not something I'm worried about. But in a public space, almost anything is fair game. The Pentagon and places like that a total no no!!

This morning I was reading this article about a man in Boston Massachusetts (not far from me) that was interviewed by the Boston PD after a woman called them on him for being "creepy" and taking photos of children in the playground. He was carrying a camera, but ironically he wasn't taking photos at that time. She the lady who rang the police did take one of him. Ironic and creepy. What boggles my mind is that the Police didn't know the law?? It's totally legal to take photos of people, children, dogs, whoever if they are in a public spot and not doing anything of a sensitive nature. So this got me thinking again. You should know your rights as a photographer, and this is my main reason for this posting. If you don't know, this handy guide here is a good place to start. A lawyer is another good place to get more information. But carrying that handy guide (linked above) should be enough if you ever are questioned.

I am glad I did some research on this topic. I am fully aware now and comfortable. If I have any troubles in public, I know who and where to refer people, so they can find out the law as well. Sagendorph Family Mausoleum

This is the Sagendorph Family Mausoleum. It is located in Pine Grove Cemetary, Spencer, MA. I have tried to capture it in all seasons. Winter, Fall, Summer. I'm missing Spring. Hopefully next Spring I will finish the project. I'm serious about my art, even if I was the only one viewing it. Sagendorph is no exception. This cemetary is one of my favorites. Such a lovely, quiet place. Cemetaries aren't spooky or haunted at all. You'd probably think reading my blog that Spider Gates or Friends Cemetary in Leicester, MA. would be a favorite, but it was very much a let down to me. Soooooo much more interesting here in Spencer, MA. A favorite "spooky" spot is in Shrewsbury, MA. at Prospect Park.

This is behind Sagendorph. Funnily enough I was worried about the snow melting too soon, once I could finally get into the cemetary. They do not plow it out in the winter. So I was watching and checking it out often to be the first in there to catch it still with snow, but walkable. Well I was much too soon and got stuck in a snowbank. Luckily enough I had brought a shovel. IMAGINE if I had had to call the PD for a rescue??!! HAH. Now that would have been hilarious! "What are you doing with a shovel in a cemetary, Heather?" Oh um, I brought it just in case I needed to dig myself out, since the snow was still high. YEAH I can imagine they wouldn't have giggled at that one. Oh well, good thing I did have the shovel and got out without assistance. ;)

I suppose this is technically Spring, but I want at least one other image of it, with new green leaves on the trees near it, perhaps.

Sagendorph in Summer

This one might be my favorite. I do love the autumnal colors.

Another viewpoint of Autumn. Interestingly The Sagendorph Family are the only ones in this cemetary with a mausoleum built for their internment. I'm looking for their home here in Spencer, MA. too. I think I have found it. If I am correct, it is also very grand and lovingly decorated.

Getting Ready for Halloween!

Getting ready for Halloween over here, and in doing so. I've been doing some digging. Um, in my flickr account. For my creepier photos that is. ;) :) :)

It's that time of year.. Haunting, Spooky stuff, Cute little Goths running amok!

That's my son (above) as a Dia De Los Muertos Skull. We saw it at Whole Foods in Framingham and had to try it on. It's from a new candy company from Boston called Unreal.

Awesome collection of Jack-o-lanterns in Old Sturbridge Village a couple years ago. The following year we drove over & they canceled it due to a freak blizzard. "But we made it and didn't have an accident!!" Oh well, there's always this year coming up!

My son played with my editing program recently and created this photo of his little sister. She's hardly a monster. Unless she doesn't get her way. ;)

This building is in Westborough, not far from my hometown. It was a Boy's School and is Haunted. Hubby saw something weird here once when working there. A boy looking at him out a window, then the second he looked at it more clearly, the window & the boy were gone.

This time of year I like to round up the crayon chunks & melt them into something fun. Seriously this Holiday is a fav!

This is the lovely stained glass inside the Sagendorph Family Mausoleum in Spencer, MA. The same cemetary that Maria Prouty is buried in. Maria Prouty was probably? murdered by her husband, and it was ruled a suicide due to unethical folks in charge back then.

Here is Maria Prouty's stone. Things I've read make me believe she was indeed murdered by her husband. But the book I read is listed as "fiction" maybe in order to get it published?, but I have yet to read the official documents or the book put together that is based upon them. That's one of my goals.

This post is showcase some of my recent photography with people! I do a lot of art, still lifes, macro, flower shots. But I also do a lot of photography of people. I'm a one-stop-shop for all your photography needs! I do it all. I have an excellent camera. My favorite go to camera is my Fujifilm XE-2. I also have a Nikon and we are buying a new Canon very soon too. I feel the more cameras you master, you can have different perspectives on every photography situation. You'll expand your brain and never miss an important shot!

On Halloween This Year I'm Staying Home ;)

Earlier this summer we took a hike into Spider Gates. I had heard about the place online. Some of the online chatter, per the usual talked about it being a very haunted type place. I wanna tell you, no. Just no. It might be for certain people, certain times of the year, perhaps. But we saw nothing out of the oridinary at all. I didn't feel anything either. Nothing spooky or anything like that at all. Perhaps the other spots mentioned that are nearby this cemetery are spookier, but no chills or creepy sensations in the actual cemetery. It's actually a very lovely and peaceful little cemetery. A joyful spot in the woods. I highly reccomend checking it out sometime. This website here talks more about it too.

I've also been following a local, fellow photographer on Instagram. I noticed a new place to go hiking and shooting some photography at and wanted to check it out. We've been twice now. I had this very strong feeling of wanting to go back ever since our first trip up there. The other day we went back there. Once again the whole family went, and we did experience something odd. Something just out of the 'corner of your eyes odd', that was strange. The place is called; Prospect Park in Shrewsbury, MA. At one time it was a Georgian Mansion, then later it was turned into a convalescence home and hospital. If I recall the story correctly, the Mansion was raised in 1976. Ever since this time it's been pretty uninhabited. The town of Shrewsbury owns it and put in a couple of water towers for public water supply. The towers are at the top of the driveway. To the right of the driveway is the flower garden and crumbling pergola. The highest spot here is where the mansion used to be. There is a group of Shrewsbury residents that do some cleaning up and clearcutting of the area, but I think they have limited resources. There are some lovely walks through the woods tho, but for the most part I think the area is pretty uninhabited and lonely. We saw two other groups of people there this second visit and they didn't linger very long. Only one other group of people the first trek.

On our walk up the hill, on the long driveway, the area lends the mood of loneliness and sorrow a little bit. On our first trek there I had a weird thought, there are certain areas in here that would make an excellent body dump spot. Now what would I think that for? On our second walk about 1/3rd of the way up, I'm stopping turning to look backwards and feeling a twinge in my back where I haven't felt pain in in years. At about this same time my daughter's mood changes 100% to really whiny. She's only three, but she's hiked all over the place. Moore State Park, up the big hill, Greenhill Park up that big hill and many other places, never tiring or whining once. She can keep up with her two older brothers like no one's business. So her being whiny after a 30 minute car ride that she could have, but didn't nap during is a little wierd to me. She stiffens up like ramrod poker straight and insists on her dad picking her up. I'm relieved due to the back pain that she wanted him to hold her and not me. She keeps looking back towards me and behind me. I'm walking slower, due to the pain, than everyone else. I'm bringing up the rear, as they say. I thought she was looking to me cause she wanted me to hold her. But at no point does she ever ask to come to me. I almost asked her at one time, but thought better of it for some reason. All this time, as we are walking up the hill, she's telling hubby that there is someone following us. A man behind us. He stops, turns, smiles, looks.. no one is there. I did the same due to overhearing her telling him this. I don't say anything too loudly, don't want to worry or scare my sons, that are also with us. They never mention ever seeing or hearing anything out of the oridinary. I looked a couple times. Nothing is there. But she's whiny and she's very definitely scared or spooked.

He had to have left us, once we reached the top of the drive by the water towers, with the open area where the Mansion used to stand off to our right. We noticed her calm down considerably here in this area. My back pain seemed to disapear too. Everyone's mood seemed to be brighter too. The rest of the day she was really tired and slept a little earlier and more than usual. The next day, once she was happy and fed in the AM, I asked her to tell me about the man in the woods. She smiled at me happily like to say.. Oh phew, you saw him too. Or happy that I believed her or happy to get it off her mind, maybe. She told me he was sad, lost in the woods and trying to get home. Something about him being locked up there. Some mean monsters came there and killed him, left him in the woods to die. That he was stabbed and he died crying. She scratched my desk when she told me all this, telling me he scratched to get out. All this coming from a 3 year old was a little freaky, OK a lot freaky. She's never ever told me any stories like this ever. She only watches shows that are happy, funny and age appropriate. She's never acted like that on any of our other hikes either. She loves hiking, fooling around with her two older brothers. So she very def had to have seen something. Maybe.

Then I read a website in my research of children and them seeing ghosts. Turns out they have better eyesight than adults do? I mean according to the site anyways. I'm still researching it a bit more. Especially the part about the digital camera seeing better than humans can. I have a photo that I shot in Moore State Park, I've blogged about it before. It's a very freaky photo, at least on flickr when you look at it with the highest resolution. You can "see" faces in the old timey glass windows. Like they are embedded in the glass there. Some you see from further away, some when the photo is at the highest res. I've counted about 20 of them, but every time I look at it there are more or less sometimes. I never noticed a thing when snapping that photo. In fact that same photographer I follow on instagram took a shot of some high schoolers, cheerleaders right by that stone mill and my first thought was, huh? Who would think that place a good place for an upbeat, happy photo? My hubby tried to capture some pictures in that same exact spot earlier in the spring. He was trying to get some photos of the rhododendruns that have overrun that park. He got some with the waterfall and flowers to the side and behind it. He walked all over that area and started to go under the mill house and just felt like no, a really powerful feeling of don't come in here, you're not welcome here and he turned around walked away and snapped in a totally different area.

So that's our big story of "seeing" a ghost. One other odd thing happened up there. I was looking at the wild flowers that grow up there uninhibited in the gardens. I looked at one, hubby remarked liking it. I snapped a quick pic of it, so I could look it up later. I wondered outloud what it might be. In my head my thought was Gooseneck Loosestrife. Turns out I was right or whoever put that thought in my head was anyways. I've never heard of Gooseneck Loosestrife in my entire life. Both times going up there I stayed mostly on the trails and in that lovely garden. I wanted to, but ever wandered to the spot where the mansion used to stand. I stayed clear of that area. I find that interesting. The area that my daughter's mood lightened and she stopped being whiny was exactly that area of where the house used to be. Could the ghost have found his way home? Why did he want to walk with us? Did he use our energy to get where he needed to be? Is this why my back was bothering me? Perhaps, I should knock off watching so much of The Haunted or Ghost Hunters?? But is kinda neat that there could be ghosts walking amongst us out there. I mean it even makes a certain amount of sense, them wanting to be around people. Especially a ghost in this lonely old spot. :/

The Photos in this blogposting were all snapped by me. The very top image is one that I snapped as we were leaving Prospect Park. Look really closely at the top of the image in the trees there, see if you see a face. I didn't notice this, till I sent the image out over Instagram. If you click any of the photos in the post, it should make them larger for you. I have them all over on flickr too. The "odd" happening in Prospect Park was the second time we went there. We've only been to Spider Gates once. Perhaps, a second trip is needed. --Heather :)

Fig Leaf Macro

I'm really happy we decided to pick these figs up at the Plant Sale earlier this spring. They have been having phenomenal growth! They are Chicago Hardy Figs. I could plant them in the ground, but they do so well in pots it's amazing. I have been rewarded with my first tiny little fig fruit too. Hoping soon for more of them. They are so cute. It will be interesting tasting them. I've only had figs once before, they are pretty good if a little seedy, but yummy and sweet. --Heather :)

Editing, Uploading and Adding..

Today I'm going over all my internet shops to edit, add, and upload some new artwork. First I added a clock to my Society6 shop.

Then I added a some skins, and mugs, and pillows. I edited my zazzle shop too.

The image on the pillow above is from my glitter, macro, bubbles series. What fun that is! All done with my Nikon camera. Love that camera so much! The Cemetery image, done with my Fujifilm XE-2, on the clock is from my Sagendorph Series that I have posted on flickr.

For my next trick I'm going to see about adding leggings to my list of products with my images on them. If I can pull that off, I'll be a fully liscenced Magician!

My Artwork Printed out for a Friend

Had some of my artwork printed up recently. I always take it here.

Always get such nice compliments on my artwork when I have it printed here. No! That's not the reason I go here. Although, that is really nice of them and considering they see a lot of artwork, that's a pretty fab feeling! I go here because they are the best! Love them!

Spooky Happenings by the Waterfall

The other evening, my family and I happened to be kind of late in Moore State Park, Paxton, MA. hubby got a bunch of interesting pictures taken. My camera on the other hand wasn't liking being in the cold. It was acting all wonky and I only got a few snaps off and was getting bored and impatient.

The first photo he got was here, right in front of the waterfall. Please note the "orbs" or droplets of moisture.

Look there are more of them, a few seconds later. Interesting!

Now I know what you're thinking. Oh it's snow! Come on, it's only snow or moisture in the air.

Um no, this is snow. Taken years ago in BW with a different camera, a Kodak.

This photo is taken before the above shots of the "orbs" or moisture.

And this photo is taken just before. Look it's on the other side of the building too. The "orbs" appear to be coming from the other side of the building, not nearer to the waterfall, which if it was, would suggest moisture from the waterfall. Probably these technical gurus are right, just dust orbs.

Just really interesting, I've never seen something like this captured on a digital camera before. Once I saw a silvery orb in this area fly over my car. It was near a home, so it could have been a child's toy AFAIK. I kind of think this area & two other areas nearby are a little bit odd places. Strange things have happened here anyways. I am looking forward to taking a trip to one of the more "famous" local areas in the near future. Wonder if anything strange will happen to us there. I'm OK with that, I'm more of a skeptic anyways, and I'd prefer if all truly creepy 9 minute stealing stuff stays far far far away from me and my familia. Gracias.

Spooky Haunted Glass Window

Haven't been blogging here in a good long time. Been mostly using flickr & tumblr accounts lately. I was going through my old photos the other day, and stumbled upon this funky one. Thought it would be a fun one to share here. At first glance, it's just an old window, in an old building that straddles a river-waterfall in Moore State Park, Paxton, MA. If you go here tho, to my flickr account and look at the largest size photo. Take a really good, long look at the "faces" in the glass. I have other photos of this place. I'll post more below.

This one was when I was carrying the camera, a complete accident.

The one above, the complete accident happened when I was thinking about the suicides that have happened here over the years. I read somewhere online about it and was scoffing the idea of ghosts. Interesting no?

The photo above here of the spot under the bridge is pretty interesting. My hubby didn't even notice it, till I pointed out the funny spot under the bridge. Just a bunch of interesting happenings er hauntings ;) in Moore State Park, Paxton, MA. I'd be interested in finding out if it's true, the suicides that have happened here, plus any potential accidents from the Civil War era. This property was originally owned by Major Moore who died in the battle of Bunker Hill, so lots of potential for haunting type things here.
