Super Hero Play Date Birthday Party

It was my twins' birthday back in February, and they decided that they wanted a Super Hero Party.

This year I didn't want to do huge parties, so we had a Play Date Birthday Party.

I made this birthday party invite using the website PicMonkey.

And then I printed them on my printer.

The colors of the party were Red, Yellow and Blue. I hung a turquoise plastic tablecloth on the wall in my backyard. I had a large box lying around. I cut it to look like it was a skyline and spray painted it black for the backdrop and placed it on the table in front of the plastic tablecloth.

The boys both wore Super Man t-shirts that I purchased at Old Navy. We ate hots, vegetables, fruit and pretzels. And Red, Yellow and Blue Gatorade to drink.

I also made each child their own Super Hero Cape with Super Man on one side and Batman on the other to take home with them. I purchased the cake at Albersons and Printed out the Super Hero Printables from One Charming Party

The Boys jumped in the jumper and had a ton of fun. I like having Play Date Birthday parties because they are more low key and I only had them for an hour and a half.

My Mother

My mother is not a CEO of a Fortune 500 company, doesn’t make a six-figure salary, or have lots of fame. She doesn’t like to speak in front of people or be up on stage. She enjoys shopping, but doesn’t need to buy the most expensive clothes. She likes to wear makeup, but in my opinion doesn’t need it. She is beautiful the way that she is inside and out.

As a child, I remember my mother would let me climb up on a chair next to the kitchen counter and let me help her make dinner. We would make blueberry muffins and she would let me lick the spoon and the bowl. It made me feel so special to be able to help her.

One of my mother’s talents is gardening. She has a green thumb and is a fantastic gardener. She has the magic touch when it comes to plants and flowers. She knows just what to plant for every season, and how to feed each type of plant or flower. The end result is that her yards are some of the most beautiful that I have ever seen.

My mother doesn’t show her emotions very often. She is a very strong woman. When I was turning 12 and going into Young Women’s (the program at our church for girls ages 12-18 years old) at church. My mother and I attended a special program to introduce us to Young Women’s. Something that was said there must have touched my mother; because that was the first time I had ever seen her cry. I still remember that to this day, and it touches me to know how much my mother loves me.

My mother is one of the most selfless women that I know. She will drop everything to come help me if I ask her to. She will come over to my house and help me clean, do the laundry, do the dishes. Sometimes I don’t think that she realizes just how much she helps me. I don’t know what I would do without her.

My grandmother’s memory is going and isn’t able to live by herself anymore. And just recently, my mother has had her mother come to live with her and take care of her. My mother is such a strong woman and I admire her so much.

I am so thankful that she is my mother. And like I said in the beginning of this post, my mother doesn’t like to be up in front of people or the center of attention. So, this is my opportunity to show her just how much I love her and appreciate her.

Happy Mother's Day to my mother and all of the Mother's in the world.

You are appreciated more than you know.

Catching Curve Balls

You know how life sometimes throws you curve balls?
I love life, and always try to be a postive person no matter the situation.
Life has most definitely thrown our family some curve balls lately.
You may have noticed my lack of writing the past few months.
Well, both my husband and myself have been dealing with some health issues.

It's nothing that serious, but it definitely gets in the way of life.
Everyday I get extremely tired and it has caused me to get anxiety and panic attacks.
We've both been going to tons of doctor appointments to try and figure out what each of us has as well as trying to get better.

So, writing has been put on the back burner.
I absolutely love writing. It's a form of therapy for me.
And I have most definitely missed it.

Sometimes when life throws you a curve ball, it can get you down and it can be a huge struggle for everyone involved.
I'm not going to lie, it's been tough these past months.
But, we as a partnership are striving to fight through it and become even better and closer than we were before our health problems even started.

I believe that we all have trials for specific reasons.
We may not know the reason for the trial while we are in the midst of it.
But when we fight through it, we learn the reason after we have gone through it.

I'm not exactly sure how often I will be writing here on the blog. It may end up being once a month or every week.
I will have to see how I'm feeling.

Valentines Day

Valentines Day is one of my most favorite holidays of the year.

I love teaching my children about how we show our love for other people.

And that we should try and show love to everyone all year long, not just on Valentines Day.

This year I wanted to start a family tradition and surprise my family with something special that they wouldn't expect.

On Valentines Day eve after the hubs and the kids were all in bed, I got out my white tablecloth that we don't use very often, and my burlap table runner. Tied heart balloons to each chair, set the table with flowers for the centerpiece and each person had a special box of chocolates at their setting.

I was so excited that I could barely sleep that night. It was like waiting for Christmas morning to come as a child.

And in the morning we ate heart shaped pancakes, and strawberries for breakfast!

We couldn't resist opening our See's Candies Chocolates and sampling ~~a few, I~~, I mean one!

Lalaloopsy Playdate Birthday Party

Last week our daughter turned 7! Seven, I can't believe that we have a 7 year old! When your children are young, others always tell you that time will go by so quickly, and you tend to not believe them. Now I definitely believe those people. And I'm pretty sure that I will soon be telling new parents the same thing. For our daughter's 7th birthday she choose to have a Lalaloopsy Party. We chose the color palette to be mainly red and pink. I created a fun invitation using Picmonkey.

I put up a turquoise blue plastic tablecloth as a blue sky. And then made the clouds out of white butcher paper and filled them with plastic bags from the grocery store to make them look 3D.

We placed my daughter's Lalaloopsy dolls and her mini Lalaloopsy house as decorations on the food table. And two of her mini Lalaloopsy dolls sat on the delicious pink and red cake that I ordered from Albertsons.

I purposely planned the party to be right after school, so we wouldn't have to provide a full meal for the girls. The girls ate strawberries, vegetables, strawberry yogurt, red licorice, pretzels, water and red Gatorade. I tried to keep with the red and pink theme.

Each Lalaloopsy has a little pet that comes with the doll. I cut pink birds out of felt, added a yellow felt beak and a black button eye. Punched holes all around the edge, and the girls sewed their own stuffed bird. They loved doing a little bit of sewing. That served as also their favor to take home.

We spent the rest of the time jumping in the bounce house that we rented and just had tons of fun! The party was an hour and a half and was a perfect amount of time. Not too long and not too short. I would defintely recommend having a playdate birthday party. It takes a little bit of the pressure off of mom, and the kids still have a lot of fun.

School Class Valentines {Lizards}

Having two boys, I couldn't bring myself to have them both give out the same Valentines. So, I picked up some of these little plastic lizards from again The Dollar Tree. It was hard to come up with a pun for this one. I came up with Leaping Lizards! It's Valentine's Day!

These cards are so easy to make. Just print them on card stock, cut, and tape the lizards on!

Feel free to print some out for yourself!
The only thing I ask is that they are used for personal use only.

School Class Valentines {Snake}

The twins are in preschool this year, so I had to come up with two more valentines for their class. I try to stay away from candy valentines because the kids will be getting plenty of candy, and I don't know about you, but every time I take my kids into the Dollar Tree or any dollar store for that matter, all 3 of them want to take home some sort of plastic animal toy. Along with the dolphins, I came across some small plastic snakes. They screamed boy valentine to me, so I picked some up.

I came right home and made up these valentines that say, "You've slithered into my heart Valentine!" And then taped the snake on the card. You could also use those sticky dots, but I had tape on hand.

You are welcome to print some our for your child! I know their classmates with love them!

Superhero Playdate Birthday Party Inspiration

The second week in February we basically have another Christmas happen in our family. The twin's birthday is on the 11th, Big Sister is the 12th and my husband's birthday is on the 14th. The boys are really into superhero's right now, so they are really excited to have a superhero birthday party.

My plan was to have a big birthday party every other year for the kids to give myself a little break. Those big birthday parties are a lot of work, especially when you have to throw two in one week. But, the kids are so excited to have birthday parties this year, I decided to have play date birthday parties. Still fun for the kids, and less stress for this mom.

One Little Word {Balance}

Last year instead of setting New Years resolutions, I chose a single word that I would try and work on for throughout the whole year. Last year my word was accomplish. It really helped me to have something to strive towards and contemplate about. To my surprise, I was able to accomplish many of things that I wanted to this past year. Raised garden, check. Do a 5k, check. Made the curtains in my family room, check. Gallery wall in my family room, check.

I thought long and hard about my word for this year. And the word I'm choosing for 2013 is: Balance

Our Christmas Card

This year for our Christmas Card, we decided that we wanted to do something that was funny.

Having two little brothers is a tough job for a big sister

Sometimes they have a tendency to get into her things

So we thought that it would be funny to have Big Sister sitting in the middle and have the boys pretend to pull her hair. Of course, this was all set up. The boys are not actually pulling her hair, and luckily they don't really pull her hair often.

We're definitely trying to work on the Peace on Earth thing in our family.

Kindness

Like so many of you, I have been deeply saddened by the horrific events that transpired this past Friday in Connecticut. I have said many prayers on behalf of those families who lost loved ones. My personal thoughts during this time have been turned to kindness. I feel that in this country we have lost common decency and have become more self important. I think that maybe if we would be a little kinder to one another events like this might not happen as often.

I'm reminded of a quote by President Thomas S Monson, "Life is perfect for none of us. Rather than being judgmental and critical of each other, may we have the pure love of Christ for our fellow travelers in this journey through life."

During this Christmas season and when tragedies like this happen, we tend to see more kindness in the world. But let us commit to be kinder to each other everyday throughout the year. I love this quote that says, People often forget that kindness is free.

Thank your child's teacher. This morning as I dropped my daughter off at her first grade classroom, I gave her teacher a hug and thanked her for being such an incredible teacher. As I walked away, I could see that she had tears in her eyes. Teachers do so much for our children and make it a part of their job to keep our children safe. Lets show them how much we appreciate their hard work.

This past week the soccer season ended and we had a team party at Menchie's Frozen Yogurt.

Big Sister's team was undefeated this season, but who's counting right?

After Thanksgiving, Big Sister could not wait to get out our Christmas decorations! She woke me up at 5am to ask if we could get the Christmas tree out. I wonder what time we are going to wake up on Christmas morning?

Only in Southern California are we able to go have a nice, beautiful afternoon at the beach in November?! A big thank you to that seagull who flew by right at the perfect time when I took the picture, you made it an awesome picture

Yummy Sugar Free Vanilla Pudding with fresh raspberries was a delicious treat!

Big Sister and I have been having fun working on learning her first grade spelling words this week

And we were able to finish decorating this house for Christmas this week! I'm loving our little elves on the windowsill.
