London, UK (21 February 2024): The London Concours is excited to announce that this June’s show will celebrate the past 70 years of one of the most significant and iconic automotive creations of all: the Chevrolet Corvette. Running from the 4th to 6th June at the Honourable Artillery Company in the heart of the city, the event will gather ten models from throughout the Corvette’s illustrious history – from the seminal C1 of the 1950s right through to the cutting-edge, mid-engined C8 supercar of today. Presented in partnership with the Classic Corvette Club UK and Classic and Sports Car, the display will chart the progression of this defining model over the decades, offering fascinating snapshots of America and its automotive industry in the process.

The display will kick-off with the first-generation of Corvette, introduced in 1953, which was devised by General Motors to tap into America’s enthusiasm for European sports cars in the post-war years. Known as the ‘C1’, it featured a sleek body designed by Harvey Earl; it was the archetypal two-seater sports car, embodying ‘50s American optimism. The C1 was offered with a range of engines over the course of its nine-year production run, from a straight-six in the base car, up to a 5.4-litre 300+bhp V8. The motors could be mated either to a 2-speed ‘Powerglide’ auto, or a 3 or 4-speed manual box. As the first mass-produced American sports car, the C1 set the foundations for the enduring Corvette legacy and remains a landmark piece of industrial design.

The second-generation Corvette, more widely known as the ‘Sting Ray’, arrived on the scene in 1963. Designed by Larry Shinoda, who was also responsible for the Ford Mustang ‘Boss’ 302, the C2 became an instant classic. With its futuristic lines and split-rear window, it was an American sports car for the space age. Quite literally, in fact; from the ‘60s to ‘70s GM had an arrangement with NASA which saw legendary astronauts – the likes of Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin – run top of the range, fire-breathing ‘vettes as company cars.

Under the long bonnet, the Sting Ray housed a variety of V8 engines, from the iconic small-block 327 to the mighty, 7.0-litre, 427 cubic inch monster – ideal for astronauts accustomed to rocket thrusters. Available as a convertible and a coupe, it also became a force to be reckoned with on the racetrack, with the rumbling, often side-piped Sting Ray taking the fight to European machines like the Jaguar E-Type at circuits around the world.

Also on show will be the equally distinctive C3 Corvette, which was introduced in 1968. While the C2 reflected the automotive and design landscape of the ‘60s, the C3, with its more curvaceous body and dramatic pop-up headlights, vibrantly reflected the more extravagant style of the 1970s. Over its 14-year production run, the C3 underwent various refinements; remarkably 21 different powerplants had been offered by the time production ceased in 1982, from more refined small block V8s to the decidedly less civilised, thunderous big-blocks versions. A customer in the early ‘70s could spec their C3 to have 450bhp, nearly 100bhp more than a contemporary Ferrari 512BB; a blue-collar American performance hero.

If the C3 embodied the ‘70s, then the C4, unveiled in 1984, was very much a machine of the 1980s. It embraced cutting-edge technology and aerodynamic design of the time, with a futuristic, digital dashboard, and an all-new chassis, using composite body panels to keep weight down. Under the skin the C4 was a marked step on from its predecessors, ditching the dated body-on-frame construction, while a six-speed manual gearbox was offered for the first time.

June’s show will also feature the C5, introduced in 1997, which modernised things further and became a great hit with performance car fans. The C5 featured the 345bhp LS1 5.7-litre V8 at its core, and, thanks to a lightweight structure, and a much more refined suspension system, it took all-round performance and handling to a new level. With high-tech magnetorheological dampers and a top speed of over 175mph, the driving experience was now comparable to much more expensive European competitors.

Arriving in 2005, the C6 Corvette – an evolution of the C5’s design – elevated performance to supercar levels. Motorsport inspired variants like the 505bhp, 7.0-litre Z06 and wild, supercharged 6.2-litre, 638bhp ZR1 packed immense straight-line performance, with the latter capable of over 200mph flat out. Evo dubbed the Z06 a “genuine all-American supercar”; these variants remain visceral, thrilling machines with real visual presence.

The C7, introduced in 2014, further evolved the Corvette, bringing sharper lines, more advanced materials, and yet more powerful engines. Generally, it stuck to the familiar recipe that had served the Corvette well for over 60 years – a large engine at the front nestled under a long bonnet, sending power to the rear wheels. Thanks to sophisticated technology, including the option of a swift-shifting 8-speed automatic ‘box, the C7 could go toe to toe with more exotic machinery; even in base form it was capable of hitting 60mph from rest in just 3.7 seconds, while at the top of the tree, the supercharged 755hp ZR1 could reach a hypercar troubling 215mph.

The Corvette retrospective will be rounded off by the latest-generation C8, introduced in 2020. The current ‘vette represented a revolution for the model chiefly on account of its shift to a mid-engined layout. This move enhanced both balance and agility – deploying the multi-cylinder, mid-engined recipe that has for so long been the preserve of blue-blooded European exotica, marking the start of an exciting new chapter in the history of this true automotive icon.

This is just one part of this summer’s event, which will assemble some 80 machines – from classics to modern hypercars – in an oasis of green in the heart of the city of London. Stay tuned for further class announcements in the weeks and months ahead as we approach the anticipated 8th edition of London Concours.

Andrew Evans, Managing Director, London Concours, said: “We’re delighted to announce our landmark Corvette retrospective for this June’s show. The London Concours is all about celebrating the most significant, evocative cars, and the Chevrolet Corvette certainly ranks up there among the greats.Working with the Corvette Club of the UK and supported by Classic & Sports Car, we’re looking forward to charting the progression of a model that transcends the automotive world. ‘Icon’ is a word that’s thrown around liberally these days, but when it comes to the Corvette, it certainly applies.”

Beyond the cars, guests to the Honorary Artillery Company will be treated to a decadent range of food and drink options – including the all-day Club Concours hospitality experience, engaging live stage discussions, as well as a carefully selected line-up of luxury brands and boutiques. London Concours 2024 is set to be another unforgettable occasion of automotive indulgence.

PRETORIA – Soccer teams from 6 local schools were treated to a full day’s worth of soccer at the Sun Valley Primary school in Mabopane this week.

Chevrolet Ute Force delivered soccer kit to the six disadvantaged schools in the north of Pretoria. Each participating school received a full set of soccer kit, comprising socks, shoes, shorts and shirts and One World Futbols, the nearly indestructible and ultra-durable soccer balls in their training pack.

The soccer development programme, run by Dreamfields Project, the Non-Profit organisation that focuses on soccer development, trains teachers to become coaches and show them how to create soccer leagues.

Supported by the Department of Basic Education, similar soccer clinics had been rolled out across all nine provinces over the last three years.

Tim Hendon, Chevrolet Brand Manager, said soccer development has become a key focus for Chevrolet. “We reach so many communities through the beautiful game of soccer and young children are given the opportunity to realise their football potential and prowess,” said Hendon.

Hendon added that the One World Futbol given to each school, is part of a one and a half million-ball sponsorship made by global Chevrolet into disadvantaged communities across the world.

John Perlman, CEO and founder of Dreamfields said “You can only bring your dreams closer if you work at it, each day, every day. And you can only grow football dreams if you play all the time.”

Perlman also praised the One World Futbol, saying it is truly a miracle ball. “The children we work with at Dreamfields simply don’t want to stop playing. And thanks to Chevrolet they now have a football that is as strong and durable as their dreams will need to be.”

To date the Chevrolet Ute Force project has impacted more than 130 schools since 2013. In addition Chevrolet South Africa has distributed more than 60 000 One World Futbols in needy communities across South Africa as part of the global Chevrolet One World Play Project.

DETROIT – Building on the performance-oriented updates made to the Chevrolet SS last year, the 2016 model features several exterior enhancements that reinforce its presence on the road.

A revised front fascia features new, vertical ducts at the outer edges to direct airflow over the front wheel openings to improve aerodynamic efficiency. The fascia also incorporates new LED signature lighting, while new, functional hood vents and new-design 19-inch cast-aluminum wheels contribute to a stronger appearance for the rear-drive sports sedan.

“The 2016 SS design changes more fully express the true driving character of the sedan while further enhancing the car’s overall performance,” said Todd Christensen, Chevrolet Performance Car marketing manager.

What hasn’t changed is the SS’s unique blend of performance, comfort and spaciousness. It features a 6.2L V-8 engine under the hood and turns out an SAE-certified 415 horsepower (310 kW) and 415 lb-ft of torque (563 Nm), and offers a six-speed manual transmission or a paddle-shift six-speed automatic transmission.

A new, dual-mode exhaust system for 2016 complements the V-8 engine with quieter performance at low engine speeds and a more muscular engine note at wide-open throttle.

Founded in 1911 in Detroit, Chevrolet is now one of the world’s largest car brands, doing business in more than 115 countries and selling around 4.8 million cars and trucks a year. Chevrolet provides customers with fuel-efficient vehicles that feature engaging performance, design that makes the heart beat, passive and active safety features and easy-to-use technology, all at a value.

DETROIT – Less weight and more power is the combination for performance success and engineers of the 2016 Camaro have the numbers to prove it. With weight savings of up to 390 pounds (177 kg), the all-new Camaro delivers performance numbers that reset the benchmark for the segment.

Chevrolet testing shows the all-new, 455-hp (336 kW) Camaro SS coupe – the most powerful Camaro SS ever – sprints from 0-60 mph in 4.0 seconds and covers the quarter-mile in 12.3 seconds, when equipped with the all-new eight-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission.

The other Gen Six Camaro coupe models are commensurately quick, with the 275-hp (205) 2.0L Turbo delivering 5.4-second 0-60 performance and a 14.0-second quarter-mile, with the six-speed manual. With the available, 335-hp (250 kW) 3.6L V-6 and eight-speed automatic, the Camaro zips to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds and down the quarter-mile in only 13.5 seconds.

“The performance of the Camaro 2.0L Turbo will challenge many of the iconic muscle cars from the 1960s, while the Camaro SS’s performance – including 0.97 g cornering – makes it one of the most capable 2+2 coupes on the market,” said Al Oppenheiser, Camaro chief engineer. “The performance numbers only tell half of the story, because the lighter curb weight also makes the new Camaro feel more responsive and agile behind the wheel. It brakes more powerfully, dives into corners quicker, accelerates faster and is more fun to drive than ever.”

With standard 18-inch wheels and Goodyear Eagle Sport all-season tires, the 2.0L Turbo delivers 0.85 g in cornering grip and 60-0-mph braking in 129 feet. With the RS package, which includes 20-inch wheels and Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric all-season run-flat tires, the 3.6L V-6 delivers 0.89 g in cornering and 60-0 mph braking in 124 feet. The Camaro SS features Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 run-flat summer-only tires, enabling 0.97 g in cornering and 60-0 braking in 117 feet.

Lighter, stronger architecture

Much of the Camaro’s performance can be attributed to the development team’s focus on reducing vehicle mass and improving structural stiffness. They invested 9 million hours of computational time looking for opportunities to make the chassis lighter and stiffer. That computer-aided engineering led to a modular architecture strategy that tailored the chassis to each model (see accompanying infographic).

[youtube id=”NEEQ7d17d4U” width=”100%” height=”60%” autoplay=”no” api_params=”” class=””]

“Every Camaro model offers exceptional chassis strength and rigidity, but the modular design made the architecture more adaptable and mass-efficient, because we didn’t have to compensate for the unique demands of, say, the SS convertible when building a 2.0L Turbo coupe,” said Oppenheiser. “The result was an elegant engineering solution: 12 chassis components that could be combined to meet the structural requirements of each specific model, without adding unnecessary mass to other models.”

Consequently, the base curb weight for the 2016 Camaro is 368 pounds (167 kg) lighter than the previous model. The 1SS model is 223 pounds (101 kg) lighter, while offering 29 more horsepower, for a 14-percent improvement in its power-to-weight ratio.

DETROIT – When Willie Payne and his wife, Kathleen, decided to risk stable incomes to start their own business in 2006, they needed a strategic business partner – and a dependable work truck.

As a new business owner, trustworthy transportation and access to competitive financing were critically important to Payne Pest Management, which started with just three employees. Chevrolet Fleet and Commercial sales specialist Walter McGrath met with Payne and listened to his story.

“Access to credit is a challenge for many businesses as they launch, and this was true for us in 2006,” said Willie Payne, chairman and CEO, Payne Pest Management. “Since Walter and the Chevrolet commercial vehicle team treated us with respect when we needed it the most, our business partnership continues to grow today.”

[youtube id=”QR17IB8RXe0″ width=”100%” height=”60%” autoplay=”no” api_params=”” class=””]

After purchasing its first vehicle, a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado, the Payne team hit the road to build their business.

Today, Payne Pest Management is among the most successful companies in their industry in the southwestern U.S. Their single pickup truck, which now has more than 200,000 miles, has grown to a fleet of 45 Chevrolet vehicles, including Cruze, Equinox and Silverado models assigned to customer inspection and service teams.

“All of our Chevrolet vehicles are dependable, and it’s nice to know that I don’t have to worry about our vehicles performing while on the job,” Payne said. “This allows me to focus on growing my business.”

Larger and lighter; all-new compact sedan is more agile with a dynamic driving experience

All-new, standard 1.4L turbo engine with direct injection offers a GM-estimated 5.9 L/100km* highway; stop/start technology contributes to efficiency in stop-and-go driving

Available Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capability leverage smartphone features customers use most and integrate apps with Chevrolet MyLink

Packed with new technologies such as available Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and new active safety features, as well as a more spacious interior and an athletic, aerodynamically optimised design, the 2016 Cruze elevates the compact car segment – from San Francisco to Shanghai and from Boston to Buenos Aeries.

It will be offered in more than 40 global markets and goes on sale first in North America in early 2016, where a new, standard 1.4L turbocharged engine with direct injection and an SAE-certified 113 kW will contribute to a General Motors-estimated 5.9 L/100km* on the highway with the available six-speed automatic transmission. Stop/start technology contributes to the Cruze’s efficiency in stop-and-go driving.

The new turbo engine and a leaner architecture that contributes up to a 113 kg overall weight reduction also contribute to the new Cruze offering stronger performance, with expected 0-100 km/h acceleration of eight seconds.

“The 2016 Cruze builds on a very successful program that introduced Chevrolet to new customers the world over,” said Alan Batey, president, General Motors North America. “We retained all the attributes that made the original Cruze a hit around the globe and built on them to make this car more sophisticated, more fun and more Chevrolet.”

“The new Cruze is truly one of Chevrolet’s most global vehicles,” said Batey. “With content variations dictated mostly by local market demands, customers in every corner of the globe will enjoy the same fundamental dynamics that are making Chevrolet one of the fastest-growing brands around the world.”

In 2017, Chevrolet will introduce a new diesel model for U.S. customers that builds on the success of the current Cruze diesel model.

Wind tunnel-optimised design

The 2016 Cruze’s expressive design is derived from a balance struck between the designers’ inspiration and the efficiency-optimising input of wind tunnel testing -leveraging the aero experience of vehicles including the Volt. The result is one of the sleekest-looking cars in the class, with a 0.29 coefficient of drag – an attribute that contributes directly to a GM-estimated 5.9 L/100km* on the highway.

Proportionally, the new Cruze is 68 mm longer and nearly a 25 mm shorter in height than the current model, giving it a longer and leaner appearance. A faster windshield rake and a faster-sloping rear profile lend a sportier look to the design, while the rear profile culminates in a standard integral rear spoiler that contributes to the car’s aero efficiency.

The sleek profile is complemented by detailed, layered line work in the hood and body-side panels, contributing to an overall impression of muscularity – with an athletic stance enhanced by a longer wheelbase.

“With styling influenced by the acclaimed 2014 Impala and all new Malibu, the 2016 Cruze brings Chevrolet’s new, expressive global design language to the small car segment,” said John Cafaro, executive director, Chevrolet Design. “The Cruze’s approach to proportion and premium details adds to Chevrolet’s elevation of craftsmanship, content, quality, and a fresh interpretation on an identity that is unmistakably Chevrolet in every market around the world.”

The headlamps sweep back into the front fenders and an expressive, stacked dual-port grille design offers upscale attention to detail. LT and Premier models feature premium forward lighting systems, including projector-beam headlamps and LED signature daytime running lamps.

Additional design details include:

The centre-rear stop lamp is mounted at the top of the roof line for a more refined appearance

Seamless rocker panels convey upscale attention to detail and contribute to aerodynamic performance

Polished aluminium, piano black and bright-finished accents provide a more contemporary, upscale aura to the design

The RS package includes unique grilles, front and rear fascias, fog lamps, front splitter, rocker panels, rear spoiler and 18-inch wheels on the Premier model.

Roomier, more-connected passenger space

With greater spaciousness and technology, the 2016 Cruze’s interior is designed to be more comfortable and a better connected environment for the driver and passengers.

The greater spaciousness includes more rear legroom (917 mm) and 51 mm more rear knee room – more than Ford Focus and Hyundai Elantra. Beyond the quantifiable, there’s greater perceptual spaciousness in the new Cruze, driven by flowing line work in the instrument panel, which blends almost seamlessly with the front door panels.

Like the exterior, the Cruze’s interior – and the instrument panel in particular – features lean, muscular and layered surfaces built around the Chevrolet-signature dual-cockpit theme. It’s a thoroughly modern design that emphasizes human-technology interaction through the prominent, standard MyLink screen in the “center stack” and details such as compatibility with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and wireless phone charging.

A mixture of accents, from piano black and matte black finishes to bright trim, along with more premium features such as available heated rear leather seats and wireless phone charging, complement the cabin with an upscale ambience generally reserved for midsize sedans – but one that is becoming increasingly important to customers around the globe who want premium amenities in smaller vehicles.

Additional interior features and amenities include:

Unique center console design for North America with specific user interface details such as a repositioned shifter, more intuitive positioning of the cup holders and enhanced storage

More soft-touch surfaces and animal-grained, micro-etched surfacing that enhances the premium look and feel of the interior, as well as premium fabrics with French stitching, distinctive for its contrasting stitch colors Premium leather is available

4.2-inch-diagonal high-resolution driver information center in the gauge cluster

Premium features offered, including heated front cloth seats, heated rear leather-trimmed seats, and heated and leather-wrapped steering wheel.

Through Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capability, Cruze’s all-new Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system provides simple and intuitive use of smartphones in the vehicle. It integrates certain phone functions onto the Cruze’s 7-inch-diagonal color touchscreen, allowing them to call up music, navigation apps and more via compatibility with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and more. An uplevel MyLink radio with and 8-inch display and navigation is available and also incorporates Apple CarPlay.

Each system builds off select features smartphone users rely on most, with many controlled via voice commands through a button on the steering wheel. That helps drivers spend more time with eyes on the road and hands on the wheel.

Using either application is simple. A “Projection” icon on the MyLink screen is visible when a phone is not connected and changes to indicate CarPlay or Android Auto when a compatible phone is connected via a USB. Android Auto requires a phone running the Android Lollipop 5.0 operating system or above, while Apple CarPlay requires an iPhone 5 or later.

Compatible apps need to be downloaded to a phone before using. Apple and Google’s privacy statements and terms of use apply. Data plan rates may also apply.

Complementing MyLink to enhance Cruze’s connectivity is available OnStar with 4G LTE and built-in Wi-Fi hotspot.

Larger, lighter and more dynamic

An all-new, more rigid and lighter architecture is the 2016 Cruze’s foundation for driving dynamism, while also playing significant roles in safety and efficiency. It is constructed of about 8-percent hot-stamped/high-strength steels, which contributes to an approximately 27-percent stiffer body structure that is also 24 kg lighter than the current Cruze.

The lighter structure is also larger than the current model, with the new Cruze’s 2,700 mm wheelbase stretching nearly an inch longer, while supporting front and rear suspensions with wide tracks (60.8-inch front/61.3-inch rear). Aluminium is used strategically in the suspension systems to optimise weight and handling characteristics.

“The Cruze’s chassis system is perhaps the most mass-efficient in the segment,” said Ron Arnesen, executive chief engineer. “It is at the core of the car’s dynamic driving character, which is designed to deliver fun with an enhanced feeling of connectivity.”

Additionally, the new, more rigid architecture is the primary enabler for exceptional chassis tuning, enabling more nimble and direct steering and handling attributes that foster driving confidence through precision. The longer wheelbase and wide front and rear tracks further contribute to a lower, wide “footprint,” which enhances agility and the feeling of control. Additional features include:

A proven MacPherson strut front suspension design with specially tuned bushings and geometry intended to balance handling with comfort

A torsion beam rear axle on L, LS and LT models; and an enhanced Z-link design on Premier. It helps deliver a more balanced driving experience, as the rear suspension better follows the lead of the front suspension

Rack-mounted electric power steering is standard on all models. It enhances efficiency because it removes the conventional power steering pump from the engine’s driven accessories

Four-wheel disc brakes with Duralife rotors are standard on all models

StabiliTrak electronic stability control, with traction control, rollover mitigation and anti-lock brakes, is standard

Wheel size range from 15 to 18 inches.

Power-dense, efficient turbocharged powertrain

In North America, the 2016 Cruze is driven by an all-new, standard 1.4L turbocharged engine derived from GM’s new family of small gas engines. It features direct injection, stop/start technology and is matched with a standard six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission. Stop/start technology contributes to efficiency in stop-and-go driving.

The new 1.4L turbo is SAE-certified at 113 kW and 240Nm of torque. With more torque than the current Cruze’s 1.4L turbo and a lighter architecture, the new turbocharged engine is expected to deliver segment-best 0-100 kilometres per hour performance of 8 seconds. That makes the new Cruze quicker than most competitors, while also beating most of them at the fuel pump, with a GM-estimated 5.9 L/100km* on the highway with automatic transmission.

The 1.4L turbo features an aluminium cylinder block and head, which helps reduce the Cruze’s overall mass to enhance performance and efficiency. Engine efficiency is also enhanced through reduced friction, including low-friction piston rings, a low-friction camshaft drive and a low-friction oil pump.

The start/stop feature automatically shuts down the engine when the car comes to a stop under certain driving conditions, such as a stoplight. The engine automatically restarts when the driver takes his or her foot off the brake.

Advanced safety features

The 2016 Cruze’s safety story begins with the new, stronger body structure that incorporates high-strength steel in key areas to enhance strength and crash protection by helping to prevent intrusion into passenger compartment.

Cruze also returns with a segment-leading 10 standard air bags, including frontal driver and passenger air bags, roof rail-mounted head curtain side air bags that help protect the front and outboard rear seating positions; seat-mounted side-impact air bags (front and rear); and front knee air bags.

Available safety features include an expanded range of adaptive crash-avoidance technologies, including Side Blind Zone Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Keep Assist and Forward Collision Alert.

Additional safety features include:

Front passenger seat occupant sensing system and rollover sensing and protection system

Collapsible pedal assembly to help protect against lower-extremity injuries

Three-point safety belts in all five seating positions, safety belt retractor pretensioners and lap pretensioners in the driver and front-passenger positions, and safety belt load limiters (with pretensioners) in the front safety belt retractors.

LATCH child seat latching system in the rear seat

Tyre pressure monitoring system, daytime running lamps

Automatic headlamps.

The next generation Chevrolet Cruze will be introduced to the South African market at a later stage. Model range, specification, and pricing will be announced at time of launch.

Barney Marais in his red Chevrolet raced against 21 other participants to locations around the Eastern Cape, spanning more than 500 kilometers over four days.

Marais, a former General Motors (GM) dealer from Joubertina in the Eastern Cape, first laid eyes on the vintage Chevrolet five years ago at a GM dealership in Randburg and knew that he had to have it. However, the vehicle could not be sold to him as it formed part of the heritage of the Williams Hunt Group, but the group was kind enough to place it in his care, where it has been ever since.

Built at the Port Elizabeth plant 87 years ago, the Chevrolet was still in its original condition.

“When I got the vehicle it had been standing for more than 20 years. She was a beauty with 37 000 kilometers on the clock.”

Marais had the vehicle transported from Johannesburg to his farm. With just a few swings of the crank handle the four-cylinder three-litre engine instinctively started to purr.

“The vehicle still has its original engine. I was so excited. The oil pressure was fine so I cleaned the engine, fixed the brakes, added water and filled it with petrol. She was good to go.”

Once the engine was sorted out Marais ordered tyres from America, changed the floor mats and gave the vehicle a good polish.

He said he had no doubt that his Chevrolet would be able to endure the Milligan Vintage Trial, because he had faith in the brand.

Marais finished in 7th position without any breakdown along the route.

“I knew I could rely on this vehicle and that it would not let me down during the race. The Chevrolet brand has a reputation for being reliable. It always has and it always will,” he said.

Also participating with a GM vintage in this year’s event were Herbert and Jean Dugmore from Kimberley in their 1957 Opel Kapitan.

DETROIT – After 350 hours of wind tunnel testing – often 24 hours a day – the new Camaro will slip more easily through the wind, and drivers of the Camaro SS will experience a marked improvement in reduced aerodynamic lift.

These changes illustrate the lengths the aerodynamics team went to for improved performance, stability, cooling and lower wind noise intrusion

“The importance of aerodynamics increases exponentially as we increase vehicle performance,” said Kirk Bennion, Exterior Design manager. “As engine output increases, we need more engine cooling. As acceleration and top speeds climb, we need to reduce lift for better high-speed stability. However, we cannot make any changes at the expense of increasing drag, which can hurt fuel economy.

“To balance these different aerodynamic targets, we tested literally hundreds of changes on the new Camaro, millimeters at a time.”

For example, the initial design called for the lower grille bars to be set at a 20-degree angle to the horizon. However, after meticulous testing, the team improved engine-cooling airflow by 1 percent by shifting the angle to 13 degrees – a change that achieved the airflow target while maintaining the original grille design.

And rather than a traditional front air dam to reduce aerodynamic lift, the team developed a flush belly pan that stretches from the front grille to the center of the vehicle. Paired with small “spats” forward of the front tires, the smooth underbody helps reduce total lift by 30 percent – while also reducing aerodynamic drag.

Chevrolet will introduce the all-new, 2016 Camaro on Saturday, May 16, during a special public event at Detroit’s Belle Isle Park.

DETROIT – The midyear 2015 Chevrolet Sonic has been named a 2015 Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

“Customer safety is of utmost importance to Chevrolet, across all segments” said Jeff Boyer, vice president, General Motors Global Vehicle Safety. “The Sonic receiving this designation is a testament to that focus.”

The Sonic’s improvements in the Small Overlap Front Crash Protection Test – due to changes in the front-end structure, door sill and door pillar for the midyear 2015 model – were enough to give it a “good” rating. The “good” rating is the IIHS’ highest possible rating in each test. In addition to the Small Overlap Test, good ratings in the moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests fulfilled the requirements needed to receive the Top Safety Pick designation for Sonic vehicles built after February 2015.

“With good ratings across the board in all five IIHS crashworthiness evaluations, the improved Sonic delivers a high level of protection among small cars in the most common kinds of crashes,” said IIHS President Adrian Lund.

The Sonic is the only car in its class to feature 10 standard airbags, including knee air bags for the driver and front passenger. Sensors throughout the vehicle determine how many air bags deploy depending on a given crash.

In a crash, Sonic’s strong body structure is designed to absorb crash energy and provide a protective “safety cage” around occupants. More than 60 percent of the body structure is composed of advanced steels.

Sonic also actively works to avoid crashes with two available safety features. Forward Collision Alert provides alerts to help the driver avoid crashing into a vehicle they are following that is moving or has come to a stop. It also lets the driver know if they are following a vehicle ahead much too closely. Lane Departure Warning provides alerts to help drivers avoid crashes due to unintentionally drifting out of their lane when their turn signal is not activated.

Founded in 1911 in Detroit, Chevrolet is now one of the world’s largest car brands, doing business in more than 115 countries and selling around 4.8 million cars and trucks a year. Chevrolet provides customers with fuel-efficient vehicles that feature engaging performance, design that makes the heart beat, passive & active safety features and easy-to-use technology, all at a value.

DETROIT – Chevrolet will expand its compressed natural gas lineup to include the bi-fuel 2016 Silverado 3500HD Chassis Cab, allowing drivers to operate the vehicle on CNG or gasoline. Bi-fuel will be available on the regular cab in both 2WD and 4WD drivetrains starting in the fourth quarter.

Silverado 3500HD has a proven reputation as the ultimate work truck for fleets, many of whom are looking to reduce emissions and save money at the pump.

Southern California Gas Co. has more than 5,000 units on the road and currently, 22 percent of its over-the-road fleet operates on natural gas. The utility has committed to make the majority of its over-the-road vehicles operate on CNG by 2020, and it is looking to the bi-fuel Silverado 3500HD Chassis Cab to help meet that goal.

“A chassis cab configuration is the bread and butter of our fleet and the vehicle we rely on to service customer homes,” said Tony Orta, Strategy & Maintenance manager at Southern California Gas. “The turnkey bi-fuel option offered by Chevrolet allows us to reduce our carbon footprint while giving us the fueling flexibility and range we need to keep drivers on the road servicing customers.”

Said Mike Schneider, vice president of operations support, Sempra utilities: “This truck is another step forward in supporting our goal to green our fleet.”

The 24.5 gallon CNG tank, located directly behind the cab, in addition to the 23.5 gallon gasoline tank on the Silverado 3500HD gives drivers fueling flexibility and optimal range between fill-ups.

“CNG burns cleaner and costs less at the pump than gasoline, making it an appealing option for fleets,” said Ed Peper, U.S. vice president, GM Fleet & Commercial. “Expanding our CNG lineup furthers our commitment to provide a diverse lineup of alternative fuel vehicles for our customers.”

All of the CNG fuel systems are warranted and validated by Chevrolet. For qualified commercial and government fleet customers, the five-year/100,000-mile (whichever comes first) powertrain limited warranty covers the CNG fuel system and its components. For all other customers, it is covered under Chevrolet Complete Care five-year/60,000-mile powertrain limited warranty. As part of Chevrolet Complete care, both fleet and retail customers also receive two years/24,000 miles (whichever comes first) of scheduled maintenance.

All major components associated with the CNG system also carry GM service part numbers and are available throughout the largest dealer network in the United States. That’s not the case with some other manufacturers’ bi-fuel trucks.

The Silverado 3500HD Chassis Cab joins the bi-fuel Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD and the dedicated CNG full-size Chevrolet Express and vans.

Founded in 1911 in Detroit, Chevrolet is now one of the world’s largest car brands, doing business in more than 115 countries and selling around 4.8 million cars and trucks a year.
Now with a line-up of four sedan and two hatchback models, Chevrolet has given the Cruze a new face and rear styling for an elegant and classy look. The interior remains unchanged, with LS models now receiving Chevrolet’s MyLink infotainment system as standard.

Introduction of six speed automatic transmission for 1.4T models

Enhanced exterior treatments for a competitive edge

Addition of the Chevrolet Mylink Infotainment system to LS models

“The 2015 Cruze offers great ride and handling, fuel efficient powertrains, styling, and the well-integrated Chevrolet MyLink Infotainment System. The 2015 Chevrolet Cruze is a tangible demonstration of our “Find New Roads” vision which puts the customer at the forefront of everything we do through innovation, pioneering ideas and technology,” said Tim Hendon, Chevrolet Brand Manager at General Motors South Africa (GMSA).

Six Speed Automatic transmission for 1.4 Turbo Engine

First introduced in 2013 the turbocharged 1.4 ECOTEC petrol engine now benefits from the addition of an automatic transmission to complement the existing six-speed manual. The turbocharged 1.4T LS generates 200Nm of torque for a smoother ride and instantaneous power delivery under all road conditions. Power remains at 103 kW between 4 900 and 6 000rpm. Combined fuel consumption is 6.8l/100km, with corresponding CO² emissions of 157 g/km. The 1.4 turbo auto has the highest top speed of all the models in the range topping off at 204 km/h with a 0 to 100km/h acceleration time of 10.4 seconds.

The 1.4 turbo models matted to the manual transmission are fitted with stop/start technology for additional fuel economy and lower emissions. Combined fuel consumption for the manual is 5.8 l/100km, with CO² emissions measured at 135 g/km. This model accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h 9.3 seconds and has a top speed of 195 km/h.

Three models in the range are fitted with Chevrolet’s naturally aspirated 1.6 litre petrol engine. Performance figures for this engine are 86 kW of power @6 200 rpm, 155 Nm of torque at 4 000 rpm. Combined fuel consumption is 6.7 l/100km with 158 g/km CO² emissions. 0 to 100 km/h is 12.8 seconds and a top speed of 185 km/h for the 1.6 hatch and 190 km/h for the 1.6 sedan.

2015 Range Packed with Safety Features

The 2015 Chevrolet Cruze is continues with the original safety architecture which has earned top five-star safety ratings from both Euro NCAP and the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)

Key to the safety performance of the Cruze is a body structure which is amongst the stiffest in its class. This taut and strong structure is fundamental to the suppression of NVH (Noise Vibration and Harshness) as well as providing a high level of occupant safety in the event of a collision. It also plays a pivotal role in optimising ride, handling and stability.

The core structure of the Cruze is designed around a set of efficient load paths that assist in absorbing impact energy and directing it away from the vehicle occupants in the event of a collision from virtually any direction. Full-length beams and enhancements to the side sills, B-pillars and A-pillars make use of high strength steel and tailored blank processing contribute towards the excellent crashworthiness of the Cruze

Energy absorbing front and rear crumple zones are designed to deform in a stable and progressive manner in order to absorb collision energy as efficiently as possible so as to maintain the integrity of the passenger compartment. The passenger compartment itself is protected by tubular-section members that effectively make up a safety cage by framing the door openings and providing support for the roof. The combination of single-piece side members and ultra-high strength steel door beams provides effective protection in the event of a side impact.

In addition to passive safety features, Cruze has a range of advanced active safety systems which include:

Electronic Stability Control (ESC), which helps the driver maintain control in challenging driving situations and keeps the vehicle heading in the intended direction. It also enables more precise, controlled anti-lock braking performance as well as exceptional traction and steering stability.

Traction Control which limits wheel spin when one or both of the front drive wheels begin to lose traction

Four-channel Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD). The latter proportions brake pressure during braking.

Exterior and Interior Highlights

The 2015 Cruze has exterior styling cues inspired by the Malibu, updates include revised treatments such as the front fascia and grille with new projector type fog lamps and LED daytime running lamps. The rear fascia enhancement of the sedan model includes a new deck lid and tail lamp design adding great value and sophistication on the vehicles already well received styling. To complement the fresh new rear and fascia, a new 16″ and 17″ alloy wheel design is now available while the 17″ is optional on all LS models.

The LS models of the 2015 Cruze now also benefit from interior enhancements such as the Chevrolet Mylink Infotainment system with Colour Connected Radio (CCR) as a standard equipment.

Mylink is GM’s umbrella term for infotainment and consists of Bring Your Own Media (BYOM) available in Sonic and Trailblazer and Colour Connected Radio (CCR) available in Orlando and now in the 2015 Cruze. While the two systems have similar functionality, there are some minor differences such as, CCR includes familiar icon based menus much like an iPad, Built in Voice Recognition via your phone and has a CD Playback function.

Cruze comes with a standard service plan offering of 3yrs/60 000km to 5yrs/90 000 km across the range. Also standard with the Cruze is a warranty and roadside assistance covering 5yrs/120 000km and anti-corrosion warranty 5yrs/unlimited km.

DETROIT – It is an annual rite of spring that means Opening Day is just around the corner.

A Velocity Yellow Corvette Z06 and a special Midnight Edition Silverado eased into their parking spaces high atop the Chevrolet Fountain behind centerfield in Comerica Park on Thursday. Each vehicle was lifted into place by crane – a three-hour process.

“As the Official Vehicle of Major League Baseball, what better way could Chevrolet show our love of the game than by giving our vehicles a bird’s eye view of our hometown team?” asked Paul Edwards, vice president, Chevrolet marketing.

Chevrolet has sponsored the fountain, which features an array of water displays and the sound of a tiger growling with each Detroit home run, for the last six seasons. The brand chooses select vehicles from its lineup to display each year.

“We like to think of these vehicles as the Chevrolet cheering section to drive those centerfield home runs,” Edwards said.
