Alongside the rally, several of the 110 Mitsubishi Motors dealers across the UK will be hosting local celebratory events. A key aim of these celebrations is to raise funds for two chosen charities: the British Heart Foundation and the British Red Cross.

To further commemorate the fiftieth anniversary, it has been confirmed that a new club celebrating The Colt Car Company and Mitsubishi Motors UK will be launched at the Classic Car Show at the NEC in November. A stand featuring a five-car display has been allocated for this event. The club is being established by Stephen Blackburn, son of David Blackburn, the visionary behind the company’s launch in 1974.

Participants will gather at Mitsubishi Motors UK headquarters in Watermoor, Cirencester, Gloucestershire. The day will commence with a briefing and a light breakfast before embarking on a scenic 100-mile route through the picturesque Cotswold countryside. The journey will include stops at various points of interest, culminating at the renowned Badminton House, a site intimately connected with Mitsubishi Motors UK due to its 25-year sponsorship of the International Horse Trials.

Drivers will have the exclusive opportunity to navigate the historic grounds of Badminton Estate, ending the tour in front of the stately Badminton House. The event will conclude with refreshments and a prize-giving ceremony, where awards will be presented to the owners of the best vehicles in each category.

Highlights of the tour include a commemorative finishers’ award, professional photography, and the presence of Stephen Blackburn, son of the late David Blackburn, co-founder of The Colt Car Company (now Mitsubishi Motors in the UK). Additionally, there will be a special award for the ‘best-dressed’ crew, encouraging participants to don period-appropriate attire matching their vehicles’ eras.

This prestigious event continues the legacy of Mitsubishi Motors UK’s previous successful tours, such as the 40th Anniversary Tour in 2014 and the Centenary Tour in 2017, both of which are fondly remembered by participants.

The Golden Jubilee Tour is open to owners of UK-specification Mitsubishi cars, LCVs, SUVs, and 4x4s. Interested participants can apply online, with entries evaluated for suitability and adherence to the event’s spirit and criteria.

The 50th anniversary year kicked off in February at the annual Mitsubishi Motors in the UK Aftersales Conference. The event brought together all 110 Mitsubishi aftersales dealers across the UK, with special recognition going to Tees Valley Motors and Devonshire Motors, who were recognised with long-service awards for 20 years and 35 years respectively and Fields Mitsubishi and Grays of Holbeach who have represented the brand for an amazing 45 years.

Across the whole of 2024, the 50th anniversary will be commemorated via the brand’s social media channels as well as a host of dealer events taking place. On 21 September, Mitsubishi Motors in the UK and its customers will further honour the brand’s long-established heritage with the 50th Anniversary Rally. Bringing together owners and enthusiasts from across the UK, the rally will start at the headquarters of Mitsubishi Motors in the UK, traverse the Cotswolds and culminate at Badminton House in Gloucestershire, home to the Badminton Horse Trials, a former long-standing and recognisable partner of the brand.

From 8-10 November, it is planned that Mitsubishi Motors will be present at the Classic Motor Show at the NEC in Birmingham in conjunction with Stephen Blackburn, former Main Board and Aftersales Director, with some of the classic Mitsubishi vehicles owned by him.

In September 2021, following Mitsubishi Motors’ decision to withdraw from new vehicle sales in the UK and parts of Europe, the company transitioned to an aftersales only focussed business as part of the IM Group, supporting customers via its 110 dedicated dealerships, with servicing, parts, warranty repairs and all other aftersales care.

The Colt Car Company, known as Mitsubishi Motors in the UK, first entered the UK vehicle market in 1974, under the joint ownership, of Mitsubishi Corporation and David Blackburn. The company was run by a very small team in a four-room office at Dollar Street in Cirencester, Gloucestershire, before moving to larger premises in nearby Spitalgate Lane. In 1981 following considerable growth, the company constructed new purpose-built premises at Watermoor in Cirencester, which was opened in March 1983 and has been home to the business ever since.

At last year’s AXCR, Team Mitsubishi Ralliart competed with three all-new Tritons, which had just undergone a full model change, and Chayapon Yotha (Thailand) took the 3rd place overall. It also received the Team Award, which is awarded to the team that entries with two or more and all finished the rally, and is based on the total time of the top two entries. Team Mitsubishi Ralliart used the sporty handling and exceptional reliability of the all-new Triton to take on competitors with high-displacement engines and high power. The Triton rally car competing in this year’s AXCR will be even more refined and evolved overall with enhanced acceleration performance and road handling, and Team Mitsubishi Ralliart is ready for the victory.

Today, at the 45th Bangkok International Motor Show, the Triton rally car that will be competing in the AXCR 2024 was revealed with its new livery. In line with last year’s rally car which had a red and black motif that symbolised the energy of gushing lava, this year’s rally car retains the energetic red, while adopting a digitised image of dust at the front and continuing to the side. Toward the back are gunmental gray graphics that represent the gushing lava solidifying into hard volcanic rock. Together, the new livery embodies the dynamism, durability, and reliability of the Triton rally car.

Overview of AXCR 2024

AXCR is the ASEAN region’s largest cross-country rally. This year’s rally, the 29th in its history, will begin with a ceremonial start held in Surat Thani, on the coast of the Gulf of Thailand in the south of Thailand, on August 11th. The competition will begin the next day, on the 12th. AXCR will take the rally drivers south through Thailand, crossing into Malaysia on the 15th and finishing on the 17th at the capital, Kuala Lumpur. Covering approximately 2,000 kilometers, over 1,000 kilometers of which will be special stages, the course this year is expected to be even more gruelling than ever, with a wide range of terrain such as mountains, jungle, and river crossings that will demand exceptional road handling, durability, and high-speed.
