MIAMI, USA – The Nissan Formula E Team celebrated a historic milestone during Round 5 of the 2024/25 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship as Norman Nato claimed the outfit’s first-ever pole position. The Frenchman went on to cross the finish line first in a dramatic race through the streets of Miami, only to be demoted to sixth due to a post-race penalty that also impacted teammate Oliver Rowland’s hard-fought recovery drive.

The weekend marked a moment of individual brilliance for Nato, who delivered a lightning-fast lap in qualifying to secure his maiden Julius Baer Pole Position. It was a landmark achievement both personally and for the Nissan Formula E Team, demonstrating the pace and potential that has quietly been building across the season.

Meanwhile, Rowland’s weekend began with hurdles. A cancelled shakedown due to rain and a subsequent technical issue left the British driver with minimal running in Free Practice 1, compromising his preparation and relegating him to 16th on the starting grid following a challenging qualifying session.

As the race got underway beneath the Floridian sun, Nato made a strong launch from pole, remaining a consistent presence in the top five while executing a strategic energy-saving drive. Rowland, determined to recover, methodically climbed through the field, showcasing impressive efficiency and pace.

The momentum shifted dramatically on Lap 22 when a red flag halted proceedings. At the time, Nato was running sixth and Rowland 11th, both with six minutes of Attack Mode remaining—critical energy boosts that had been meticulously woven into their race strategy. Upon the standing restart, both drivers activated Attack Mode and surged forward, with Nato reclaiming the lead and Rowland muscling his way into fourth at the chequered flag.

However, celebration quickly turned to disappointment. The timing of the red flag had disrupted their ability to fully deploy their Attack Mode durations—a procedural requirement under Formula E regulations. As a result, both drivers were handed ten-second post-race penalties, dropping Nato to sixth and Rowland to tenth. Despite the setback, it still marked a double points finish and maintained Nissan’s lead in both the Drivers’ and Manufacturers’ Championships.

Team Reaction: Bitter-Sweet Success

“It was a weekend filled with ups and downs,” admitted Tommaso Volpe, Managing Director and Team Principal of the Nissan Formula E Team. “Norman took the win on track, which was fantastic to see, but the penalty dropped him to P6. The red flag really hit us at the worst possible moment and cost us valuable points. Still, the pole position and points show our pace is real. Oli also did a great job recovering from a compromised start to the weekend. We leave Miami cautious but confident—we know we have what it takes to keep fighting for all three titles.”

Driver Reflections: Building Momentum

For Norman Nato, the Miami weekend offered a blend of elation and frustration. “It’s great to take my first Formula E pole and a solid haul of points,” he reflected. “Without the penalty, we could’ve taken the win. But even with the time added, to still finish P6 shows how strong our race was. It’s been a season of near-misses, but this weekend definitely boosts my confidence going into Monaco.”

Oliver Rowland echoed similar sentiments: “It was frustrating to get the penalty after crossing the line in fourth. We’d managed to turn around a tough qualifying, and the race pace was really strong. These things happen in racing, but it’s clear we’re competitive. The goal now is to improve qualifying and keep that form through to Monaco.”

Eyes on Monaco: A Championship in the Balance

As the team turns its focus to the iconic double-header in Monte-Carlo on 3–4 May, optimism remains high within the Nissan camp. Despite the penalties, the Miami performance underscored the team’s raw pace and strategic resilience. With both Nato and Rowland showcasing top-tier speed and determination, the championship battle remains wide open—and Nissan firmly in contention.

Nissan Motor GB (NMGB) has announced the appointment of Ed Jones as its new Sales Director, effective 16th June 2025. His return comes at a pivotal moment for the brand as it gears up for the launch of new electric and e-POWER models, reinforcing Nissan’s leadership in the electrified vehicle market.

Jones re-joins Nissan after seven years with Audi UK, where he held key leadership positions, including National Contract Hire and Leasing Manager and, most recently, overseeing UK Sales Operations. His extensive expertise spans dealer operations, fleet sales, and electric vehicle product strategy—areas that will be instrumental as Nissan strengthens its position in the evolving automotive landscape.

Reflecting on his new role, Jones expressed his enthusiasm: “I’m delighted to be returning at such an exciting time. Nissan was the only brand with two models in the top five best-sellers in 2024, and with increased market share and double-digit sales growth, it’s a brand with real momentum in 2025. With Nissan’s rich heritage in innovation, I look forward to contributing to the success of the brand and working closely with colleagues across the retailer network.”

His arrival coincides with Nissan’s preparations for the highly anticipated launch of the next-generation British-built LEAF, which will join the best-selling Qashqai and Juke at the heart of Nissan’s UK operations. The brand’s commitment to innovation and sustainability remains a driving force, and Jones’ leadership is expected to play a crucial role in capitalising on this momentum.

Mayra González, Divisional Vice President of Marketing and Sales Europe, welcomed Jones to the team, highlighting his strategic importance: “I’m delighted to welcome Ed to our team. His experience and expertise in all areas of UK sales will be invaluable as we look to capitalise on some exciting new product launches. Ed will help accelerate our business transformation plans and lead our sales and dealer teams to continued success in the future.”

Jones succeeds Michael Auliar, who leaves Nissan at the end of March to pursue another opportunity. González extended her gratitude to Auliar, stating: “We thank Michael for his significant contribution to Nissan in markets including the UK, Nordics, and regional HQ, and we wish him well in his future endeavours.”

With a wealth of experience and a clear vision for Nissan’s future, Ed Jones’ return marks an exciting chapter for the brand.
A Groundbreaking Step Towards Inclusive Mobility

(CRANFIELD, UK – 14 March 2025) – Autonomous vehicle technology has long been heralded as the future of mobility, and Nissan is proving just how transformative it can be—especially for older generations. A pioneering research project, evolvAD, recently culminated in a series of successful trials on rural roads in Bedfordshire, showcasing the potential of autonomous driving (AD) technology to keep elderly individuals mobile, independent, and connected to their communities.

One such individual is 93-year-old Brad Ashton, a retired comedy scriptwriter from Enfield. Having driven since 1947, Brad took part in an exclusive autonomous test drive organized by Nissan, experiencing firsthand how the technology could shape the future of transportation for those who depend on their vehicles to maintain their independence.

Bridging the Gap Between Aging and Mobility

Brad, who currently drives a Nissan Micra to care for his wife Valerie and manage daily errands, was invited to test Nissan’s cutting-edge autonomous technology near the company’s Technical Centre in Cranfield. Reflecting on his experience, he expressed excitement about the future of self-driving cars:

“New technology like this is fantastic, and it’s important to embrace it. Cars have come a long way since 1947 when I first started driving—you had to crank them up! I was thrilled to be among the first older individuals to test this incredible innovation. Surprisingly, I felt safe and relaxed throughout the entire journey, even on the winding country roads.”

His experience echoes the sentiments of many elderly individuals living in rural areas. A recent Nissan-commissioned survey conducted by OnePoll, involving 1,000 participants over the age of 70, revealed that 36% of those in rural locations feel socially isolated due to their inability to drive. Furthermore, 63% of respondents highlighted the importance of maintaining independence and not having to rely on others for essential activities such as shopping or visiting friends.

Survey Highlights: The Role of Autonomous Vehicles in Enhancing Independence

The survey also uncovered compelling insights about attitudes toward future mobility solutions:

64% of respondents expressed a desire for future technology to help them stay independent in later life.

63% stated they do not want to rely on others for daily transportation needs.

1 in 5 (21%) prefer face-to-face interactions over digital communication when keeping in touch with loved ones.

20% said they would be willing to ride in an autonomous vehicle if it allowed them to stay mobile.

Nissan’s Leadership in Autonomous Driving

Nissan has consistently been at the forefront of autonomous vehicle innovation, and the evolvAD project represents another milestone in the company’s pursuit of safer, more accessible mobility. As the technical lead for the project, Nissan has successfully facilitated over 16,000 autonomous miles across diverse UK road conditions—including motorways, urban streets, residential neighborhoods, and challenging country lanes—without any recorded accidents.

David Moss, Senior Vice President of Research & Development for Nissan’s AMIEO region, underscored the significance of this achievement:

“It has been a privilege to work alongside dedicated partners in advancing AD mobility. Beyond making driving safer by reducing human error and improving efficiency, this technology has the potential to extend mobility to those who may not have it today—whether due to age, disability, or geographical constraints. Our UK team at Nissan Technical Centre Europe in Cranfield remains committed to further developing this transformative technology.”

The Future of Inclusive and Autonomous Mobility

With significant progress also being made in Japan—where a Nissan test vehicle recently navigated a complex urban environment with no driver in the car—the evolvAD project signals a future where autonomous vehicles could play a crucial role in reducing loneliness and isolation for older individuals.

As for Brad Ashton, his only request for the driverless cars of the future?

“It’d be great if they could find me a parking space.”

Nissan’s commitment to advancing autonomous driving technology ensures that future generations, regardless of age or mobility limitations, can continue to enjoy the freedom and independence that driving provides.

Why Emerging Cities Are Leading the Charge

The survey underscores a notable gap between emerging and developed cities regarding EV adoption. In high-growth urban centers, where pollution and congestion are pressing concerns, sustainability is an urgent priority. Respondents in these cities are more enthusiastic about EV adoption and innovations like vehicle-to-everything (V2X) connectivity, which enables EVs to store and distribute energy beyond their traditional mobility function.

In contrast, respondents in developed cities remain cautious, citing concerns over EV costs and charging infrastructure. While battery life and range anxiety are more prominent issues in emerging cities, affordability remains the biggest barrier for EV adoption in more mature markets.

EVs as a Gateway to Smarter Energy Solutions

The research also highlights the potential of EVs as energy management tools. Beyond their role in reducing emissions, half of the respondents acknowledge that EVs can store excess renewable energy and power external devices. This opens up possibilities for:

EVs to serve as backup energy sources during emergencies.

Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology, enabling EVs to feed power back into the electricity grid.

Greater integration of EVs into smart city infrastructures to optimize energy use.

“We believe in making mobility electrified and sustainable — it is a defining expectation shaping the future of transportation,” said Lavanya Wadgaonkar, Nissan’s Corporate Vice President of Global Communications. “This survey reaffirms the growing demand for electrification and the need to create more awareness, but long-term success hinges on making EV adoption seamless, practical, and cost-effective.”

Nissan’s Commitment to an Electrified Future

As global EV demand accelerates, Nissan continues to refine its electrification strategy to make EVs more accessible, affordable, and technologically advanced. The company is actively working on:

Expanding charging infrastructure to improve accessibility.

Enhancing battery technology for increased efficiency and longevity.

Developing V2X innovations that integrate EVs into the broader energy ecosystem.

By leveraging data-driven research and real-world insights, Nissan remains committed to shaping a sustainable and resilient transportation future. As the next generation of urban drivers takes the wheel, EVs are set to become the dominant mode of mobility, ushering in a cleaner, smarter, and more connected world.

Sunderland, UK – What if a major industrial hub could become a thriving habitat for wildlife? At Nissan’s Sunderland Plant, that vision has become a reality through an ambitious rewilding project. The initiative, carried out during the development of the plant’s second solar farm, has transformed a previously uninhabited marshland into a flourishing ecosystem.

The project is part of Nissan’s broader commitment to sustainability, blending renewable energy production with biodiversity conservation. Water voles, great crested newts, birds of prey, bats, badgers, and even deer now call this rejuvenated area home.

A New Wildlife Haven

Andy Barker, Engineering Manager at Nissan Sunderland Plant, praised the team’s efforts in creating a haven for wildlife:
“We’re passionate about sustainability, so it is fantastic to be able to create an area for wildlife to thrive. It’s been amazing to see how quickly and how many animals have taken up residence.”

The rewilding process involved removing invasive shrubs, revitalizing the habitat, and adding a viewing hide for visitors to observe the burgeoning biodiversity. These efforts were carried out in partnership with solar farm developer Atrato Partners Ltd and took just over a year to complete.

The results have been remarkable. Among the wildlife spotted are owls, kestrels, buzzards, herring gulls, and various bat species. The area is also home to badgers, deer, and amphibians, such as the protected great crested newt.

Flourishing Flora and a Holistic Approach

The revitalized marshland isn’t just benefiting fauna; a diverse array of flora is also thriving. Plants like bee orchids, white clover, cowslips, and garden lupin have taken root, further enriching the habitat.

The second solar farm project allowed Nissan to expand the marshland’s features, including a new pond and a maintained grassland. Andy Barker explained the integrated approach:
“It was about taking a holistic approach that included eco diversity as well as renewable energy.”

Sustainability at Nissan Sunderland Plant

This rewilding project is the latest in a series of sustainability initiatives at Nissan Sunderland Plant. With its wind and solar farms, the facility now generates 20% of its electricity from renewable sources.

These efforts align with Nissan’s EV36Zero blueprint, which aims to make the Sunderland Plant a flagship hub for electric vehicle (EV) production, renewable energy, and battery manufacturing. This vision is part of Nissan’s global Ambition 2030 strategy, which seeks to achieve carbon neutrality across the lifecycle of its products by fiscal year 2050.

Driving Towards a Cleaner, Greener Future

By integrating renewable energy projects with biodiversity conservation, Nissan Sunderland Plant exemplifies how industry and nature can coexist. The rewilding initiative not only underscores Nissan’s commitment to sustainability but also sets a precedent for how industrial sites can contribute to ecological restoration.

As more wildlife takes up residence in this transformed marshland, it serves as a powerful reminder that even in the most unexpected places, nature can thrive when given the chance. Nissan’s Sunderland Plant is not just building cars—it’s building a better, greener future.

In a year marked by significant challenges for the automotive industry, Nissan has emerged as a leader in the UK market, securing a remarkable achievement—two of its models, the British-built Qashqai and Juke, are ranked in the top five best-selling cars of 2024. With a total of 76,872 sales across both models, Nissan GB powered through the year with a 12.3% increase in overall car sales, culminating in 100,446 units sold and an impressive 5.14% market share.

This performance not only underlines the brand’s strength in the competitive automotive landscape but also reinforces the status of Nissan’s Sunderland manufacturing plant, which continues to hold the title of the UK’s all-time most successful vehicle production facility. Having produced over 11.5 million cars since its opening in 1986, the plant has rolled out half a million electrified vehicles in recent years, further solidifying its pivotal role in Nissan’s success.

Diana Torres, Managing Director of Nissan GB, reflected on the company’s triumphs: “2024 was a challenging year in our industry, so to have secured these results is a testament to the hard work of everyone in our organisation, including our dealer partners, and to the strength of our vehicle line-up. It gives us powerful momentum as we look forward to an exciting year ahead for our brand and, with new cars like the Ariya NISMO arriving imminently, I am confident we have the people, products and partners for success in 2025.”

In a crowning moment of achievement, the Nissan Qashqai has been awarded Used Car of the Year at the 2024 Car Dealer Magazine Used Car Awards. This accolade marks yet another milestone in an extraordinary year for the British-built crossover, celebrated for its innovation, practicality, and enduring popularity.

The third-generation Qashqai, a model that redefined the family car segment when it launched over 15 years ago, continues to lead the charge in the crossover category. The 2024 iteration has raised the bar further with striking new styling, enhanced safety features, and a cutting-edge infotainment system featuring Google built-in, winning the hearts of drivers and industry experts alike.

A Legacy of Innovation
Mike Brewer, renowned television personality and host of the Used Car Awards, praised the Qashqai as a vehicle that has left an indelible mark on the automotive landscape:

“The Qashqai is simply a fantastic all-rounder – it’s practical, great value for money, nice to drive, and just gets the job done. It’s credited with creating a whole type of car that proudly sits on driveways right across the country.”

The Qashqai’s journey to the top honor began with its win as Used Mid-Sized Car of the Year, where it bested stiff competition. Triumphing over winners from other categories, the Qashqai proved its versatility and enduring appeal.

A Year of Accolades
This latest recognition is one of many accolades the Qashqai has earned in 2024. Earlier this year, the model’s innovative e-POWER powertrain was celebrated at the News UK Motor Awards, and its captivating marketing campaign was hailed as the “world’s best” by industry insiders.

Diana Torres, Managing Director of Nissan GB, highlighted the significance of this honor:

“This award from Car Dealer Magazine serves as another welcome reminder that our British-built Qashqai is a class-leader loved by awards judges, Nissan dealers, and millions of customers worldwide. It’s been another fantastic year for the model, and we look forward to more successes in 2025!”

A Seal of Trust in the Used Car Market
James Baggott, founder and editor-in-chief of Car Dealer Magazine, echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the Qashqai’s enduring reliability and desirability:

“Thousands of families all over the UK love their Qashqais, and dealers can’t get enough of them because of their practicality, reliability, and popularity.”

For over a decade, the Car Dealer Magazine Used Car Awards have been a benchmark of excellence in the UK’s used car market, recognizing outstanding contributions from manufacturers, dealerships, and industry professionals.

A Bright Future for the Qashqai
The Nissan Qashqai’s recognition as the Used Car of the Year is a testament to its pioneering legacy and continued relevance. Designed, engineered, and manufactured in the UK, this crossover remains a symbol of innovation and practicality, proving its worth to new and returning owners alike.

As the Qashqai enters another promising year, it solidifies its place as a cornerstone of British automotive engineering and a beloved staple of UK households.

Nissan introduces the refreshed Magnite to the South African market with a two-day media launch in Cape Town, unveiling a series of updates in design, technology, and safety.

(Nissan South Africa, Wednesday, 13 November 2024) – Building on its reputation as a robust and stylish compact SUV, the New Nissan Magnite arrives in South Africa as its first stop on an expansive African tour. After a successful global relaunch in India, the enhanced Magnite has set its sights on the African market, making a confident entrance with a series of press and influencer events in Cape Town.

The Magnite, initially introduced in 2020, quickly cemented itself in the subcompact SUV category, attracting over 150,000 buyers worldwide. Since its South African launch in 2021, this eye-catching SUV has amassed sales of approximately 26,000 units, a testament to its appeal among local drivers seeking style, capability, and advanced features.

An Important Milestone for Nissan Africa’s Vision
Jordi Vila, Nissan Africa President, explains that the updated Magnite aligns with Nissan’s “Arc” business strategy, which aims to expand the brand’s African presence with models tailored to regional demands. “The New Magnite is a key pillar of the Arc, Nissan’s mid-term business plan and a major milestone in Nissan Africa’s product strategy,” says Vila, who views the new model as an opportunity to strengthen Nissan’s presence in both right- and left-hand-drive markets across Africa.

Maciej Klenkiewicz, Managing Director of Nissan South Africa and Independent Markets Africa, expresses enthusiasm for the new model, highlighting that the revamped Magnite is engineered to appeal to a new generation of drivers. “We pride ourselves at Nissan on being innovative and providing mobility solutions across the market,” states Klenkiewicz, who anticipates the Magnite will continue its momentum in the local market.

Striking Design, Elevated Tech, and Enhanced Comfort
The Magnite’s dynamic exterior styling—marked by bold LED lights, alloy wheels, and functional roof rails—remains largely unchanged, but the new model brings a host of technological upgrades. Key features include a configurable TFT driver display, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, enhancing connectivity for on-the-go drivers. An added touch of luxury is found in the four-color ambient lighting system, allowing occupants to personalize the interior atmosphere.

Interior enhancements include a cooled glove box and an innovative on-board air ionizer, a thoughtful addition for passengers with allergies or respiratory sensitivities. The Magnite also introduces a remote engine start feature and convenient walk-away lock and approach unlock functions, designed for ease and security.

Safety and Performance Refined for African Roads
In response to growing safety demands, the updated Magnite boasts reinforced high-tensile steel in its structure and six airbags standard across all models. Features like an auto-dimming rearview mirror provide added convenience and reduce glare during night driving.

The Magnite’s performance is powered by two 1.0-litre engine options—one naturally aspirated and one turbocharged—each delivering a balance of power and fuel efficiency. With an option between manual, automated manual (AMT), or continuously variable transmission (CVT), the Magnite adapts to diverse driving styles and conditions, proving equally suited to city commutes and weekend getaways.

The suspension system has been fine-tuned for stability and comfort, utilizing MacPherson strut suspension with anti-roll bars at the front and semi-independent coil spring suspension at the rear, allowing for a smooth, controlled ride over challenging terrains. This combination of power and precision ensures a comfortable, calm journey, even in less forgiving environments.

Ideal for Urban Explorers with Advanced Parking Assistance
Designed with urban mobility in mind, the Magnite comfortably seats five and offers ample legroom, making it ideal for family outings or group adventures. For city dwellers, the Around View Monitor provides a bird’s-eye perspective from four cameras, simplifying parking in tight spaces and busy areas.

Trim Levels and Pricing: A Model for Every Driver
The new Nissan Magnite offers a range of trims to suit various preferences and budgets, with three main options: Visia, Acenta, and Acenta Plus.

Visia: Starting at R246,200, this entry-level trim includes essential features such as six airbags, Vehicle Dynamic Control, rear parking sensors, automatic air conditioning, and 16-inch steel wheels.

From the bustling streets of Cape Town to rural landscapes across the continent, the Magnite’s versatility and style make it well-suited for the African market.

Madrid, Spain – The Nissan Formula E Team wrapped up an intense week of pre-season testing at Circuito del Jarama, Madrid, ahead of the highly anticipated 2024/25 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. Showcasing the capabilities of the new GEN3 Evo race cars, drivers Oliver Rowland and Norman Nato focused on adapting to the upgraded technology that promises to redefine performance standards over the next two seasons.

Testing the GEN3 Evo Cars: Speed Meets Innovation
The testing sessions proved invaluable as Rowland and Nato piloted the Nissan e-4ORCE 05 cars, which integrate upgraded Hankook tires and an innovative All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system. These enhancements are expected to elevate on-track handling and traction, delivering smoother maneuverability and enhanced power distribution across the vehicle.

For Nissan, the key to success will lie in mastering the GEN3 Evo’s new features—particularly in optimizing tire performance. “The tires are tricky to get into the correct window,” Rowland explained, “but once they’re there, they bring a lot more grip on one lap.” Rowland’s focus on balancing the new tire attributes will be critical in achieving peak performance as the team eyes São Paulo’s opening round.

Nato, meanwhile, concentrated on setup precision, particularly in 300kW mode. His targeted approach to understanding the car’s configuration aims to give Nissan a competitive edge, helping ensure they are well-prepared for a strong start in Brazil. “Now it’s all about understanding what we learned this week and preparing for São Paulo,” he shared.

Introducing Pit Boost: A Game-Changer for Season 11
A notable addition to the Formula E playbook is the Pit Boost, introduced during Thursday’s test. This new feature delivers a 10% energy boost through a rapid 30-second, 600kW charge during a pit stop, strategically empowering drivers to activate Attack Mode in the latter stages of the race. Designed to intensify race strategy, the Pit Boost could be a game-changer, adding an extra layer of complexity and excitement to each circuit battle.

Strong Finishes and Valuable Data for Nissan
During Friday’s concluding sessions, Rowland finished sixth, and Nato placed tenth, marking a successful close to Nissan’s testing. Across the test week, Rowland secured an overall seventh-place finish while Nato landed in twelfth. The duo collectively completed 389 laps, securing critical data that will be pivotal in Nissan’s bid for consistent podium finishes this season.

Tommaso Volpe, managing director and team principal, expressed confidence in the data collected, noting that the car’s AWD system and new tires were particularly impactful. “This will be a learning curve for all teams in the build-up to São Paulo,” he commented. “It was also great to try out the Pit Boost on Thursday, and we’re confident it will bring an extra dimension to the championship.”

Abbi Pulling Tops All-Women’s Test Session
Friday afternoon spotlighted the all-women’s test session, with Alpine Academy driver Abbi Pulling showcasing her skill behind the wheel. Pulling, the current F1 Academy championship leader, made an impressive debut by topping the timesheets—a testament to her seamless transition from simulation to track performance. Reflecting on the experience, Pulling said, “It felt amazing to put what I’ve learned in the simulator into real life and to experience the thrill of driving a Nissan Formula E car.” Her commendable performance adds a promising note to Nissan’s preparations for Season 11.

Looking Ahead: São Paulo and Beyond
With pre-season testing complete, Nissan Formula E Team is fine-tuning its approach for the 2024/25 season opener in São Paulo on December 7, 2024. The season promises even more excitement with a double-header in Japan as the Tokyo E-Prix takes place over May 17-18, 2025. “It sets a great platform to further improve before heading to Brazil,” Volpe remarked, indicating a readiness to capitalize on the testing gains.

As Nissan gears up for a pivotal season, the testing at Circuito del Jarama has provided the team with a wealth of insights to sharpen their edge in the upcoming championship.

IRENE – Nissan South Africa has officially unveiled its new operational headquarters located in Irene, a significant step in the company’s strategic evolution within the South African automotive landscape. This state-of-the-art facility is poised to become the central hub for Nissan’s administrative and strategic functions, serving not only the local market but also its Independent Markets Africa division.

Maciej Klenkiewicz, managing director of Nissan South Africa and Independent Markets Africa, emphasized the pivotal role of this new headquarters in enhancing collaboration, streamlining processes, and ultimately delivering improved service to customers. “This new head office allows us to reflect the technological innovation and efficiency that our vehicles are globally renowned for in our day-to-day engagement with the market and with our customers,” Klenkiewicz stated during the ribbon-cutting ceremony that marked the official opening.

The transition to Irene marks a strategic shift, as Nissan will now centralize its management, sales, marketing, corporate finance, and communications departments within this modern facility. However, the manufacturing operations at the Rosslyn plant will continue unchanged, maintaining the longstanding legacy of automotive production in South Africa that dates back nearly six decades.

Klenkiewicz articulated the rationale behind this geographical split: “In almost every other country, the corporate headquarters of any automotive OEM are physically disassociated from the manufacturing section. This allows company executives, finance teams, sales staff, and dealer network liaisons to become more accessible and develop closer contact with end users—whether retail, fleet, or government.” The new Irene office is designed to facilitate this engagement, bridging the gap between corporate strategy and customer interaction.

Relocating the corporate presence to a city’s financial center aligns with modern business practices, reminiscent of Nissan’s historical footprint in South Africa. For many years, the company’s headquarters were situated in Alice Lane, Sandton, before moving to Midrand in 2004, and subsequently to the Bill Wilson site in Rosslyn in 2007. Klenkiewicz noted that this move to Irene symbolizes a return to Nissan’s roots, echoing the brand’s commitment to its South African heritage while embracing contemporary operational strategies.

Located in the newly established Irene Link office park in Doringkloof, south of Pretoria, the new corporate offices signify a renewed commitment to fostering a productive and progressive work environment. The launch of this headquarters coincides with an exciting month for Nissan South Africa, as the company prepares to unveil the much-anticipated Magnite in Cape Town on November 12, following its successful global launch in India last month.

As Nissan South Africa embarks on this new chapter, the establishment of the Irene headquarters is not merely a relocation; it is a strategic maneuver aimed at bolstering the brand’s presence and operational efficiency across the continent. By creating a more integrated corporate structure, Nissan is poised to enhance its responsiveness to market demands and customer needs, ensuring its competitive edge in the dynamic automotive sector.

In celebration of the joy and wellbeing that comes from song, Nissan has embraced the spirit of World Singing Day with a dynamic and innovative offering – the Townstar Karaok-e. Alongside a crowdsourced playlist titled “Singalong Sensations,” Nissan invites drivers and passengers alike to join in the fun, highlighting the power of song to unite, uplift, and energize.

World Singing Day: A Global Call to Unite Through Song

With the theme “Sing Together. Unite the World,” World Singing Day encourages people everywhere to pause their busy lives, come together, and indulge in the universal delight of singing. Whether it’s belting out classics or humming along to a feel-good anthem, singing is proven to enhance wellbeing by reducing stress and boosting mood. Nissan’s initiative takes this a step further by aligning its efforts with the innovative features of its latest Townstar variant – the Karaok-e van.

The Townstar Karaok-e: Reimagining the Van Experience

Unveiled earlier this year, the all-electric Townstar Karaok-e is Nissan’s playful reinvention of the compact electric van, combining practicality with endless entertainment. Designed with built-in karaoke features, this special edition model turns every journey into a musical adventure. Whether you’re a seasoned singer or simply love the feel of music in the air, the Townstar Karaok-e is your mobile stage, offering a vibrant experience far beyond the ordinary.

The van’s transformation is impressive – its spacious rear layout has been converted into a stylish karaoke lounge. With a high-quality sound system, a 32” monitor, and an expansive catalogue of multilingual songs, passengers can indulge in a unique performance space on the go. This isn’t just about fun – the health benefits of singing are well-documented, and Nissan’s Karaok-e brings those benefits right into the heart of everyday city life.

Built for Fun, Powered by Efficiency

The Townstar Karaok-e is more than just entertainment – it is also a shining example of Nissan’s electric vehicle (EV) expertise. Equipped with a 45kWh battery and offering a range of up to 301 km, this emission-free van provides an eco-friendly ride through urban environments. So while you’re enjoying your singalong, you can rest assured knowing you’re making a minimal impact on the environment.

The Karaok-e also showcases the versatility of the Townstar range. Its karaoke transformation demonstrates how customizable this compact van can be, turning what is typically a spacious seven-seater into a rolling karaoke lounge. It’s a playful twist on the traditional use of vans, inspiring customers to explore their own creativity when converting the Townstar for personal or business needs.

Crafted from the musical tastes of Nissan employees and customers across the diverse AMIEO region (Africa, Middle East, India, Europe, and Oceania), the playlist reflects a global love for music. It’s a reminder that no matter where we come from, music and song have the power to bring us together.

This playlist is perfectly suited for enjoying inside the Townstar Karaok-e, amplifying the experience of belting out hits while cruising through the city. Whether you’re looking to lift your spirits or share a musical moment with friends and family, Nissan’s carefully selected tracks are sure to hit the right notes.
