Ramones - Blitzkrieg Bop

"Blitzkrieg Bop" is a song by the punk rock group the Ramones. It appeared as their very first single released in November 1975 in the U.S. and July 1976 in the U.K.. A different version (which eventually became the most popular one) appeared on their first album.

The song was mainly written by Ramones drummer Tommy Ramone, and is based on a simple three-chord pattern. "Blitzkrieg Bop" opens with the chant "Hey! Ho! Lets go!". The song is popular at sporting events, especially baseball games, where "Hey! Ho! Let's go!" is sometimes shouted as a rallying cry, usually for the home team.
"Blitzkrieg Bop" is number 92 on the Rolling Stone list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. In March 2005, Q magazine placed it at number 31 in its list of the 100 Greatest Guitar Tracks.
The song has been covered by various artists including studio versions by Rob Zombie, The Beautiful South and Screeching Weasel.

"Don't Go Away" is a song by British rock group Oasis, written by the band's lead guitarist Noel Gallagher. The song was released as a single only in Japan, and reached #48 on the that country's Oricon chart.

The song, according to Noel, is about losing someone close and it was written when his mother, Peggy, was hospitalised and suspected of having cancer. His mother did not have cancer, but the experience gave Noel the idea to write something "quite bleak." It has also been claimed that rhythm guitarist Bonehead requested Noel write a song along those lines after the death of his own mother. The line "Cold and Frosty Morning" appears to have been lifted from the Kinks' "Dead End Street".

Liam Gallagher claims to have cried whilst recording the song, as a result of dwelling on "a certain thing". He said, in a 1997 interview, "I just thought 'fuck that, I can't be singing this song' and I had to go away and sort meself out". Listening back to the song he admits to being very proud of his vocal performance.

The cover of the single features the old Liverpool Speke Airport building. The airport is famous as the scene thousands of hysterical fans greeting The Beatles on their return to Liverpool at the height of Beatlemania. Derelict at the time, it has now been turned into an exclusive hotel managed by Marriott. (Incidentally, the city's new airport was named after late Beatle, John Lennon, in 2004).

The live version of "Cigarettes & Alcohol" was recorded 14 December 1997 at the G-MEX Exhibition Centre in Oasis' home town of Manchester.

"Sad Song" originally appeared as a bonus track on the vinyl release of the first Oasis album, Definitely Maybe. It also appeared on the Japanese CD edition of Definitely Maybe.

The 'Warchild' version of "Fade Away" is from the 'HELP' album recorded in September 1995. It features Noel on vocals, and guests Johnny Depp on guitar, Kate Moss on tambourine and Lisa Moorish on backing vocals. All proceeds from that track went to Warchild Charities.

The song is also notable for being part of Oasis' two-song set on Saturday Night Live on October 18, 1997. It was included in the Saturday Night Live In The '90s special aired originally on May 6, 2007.

"I'll Be There for You", performed by The Rembrandts is the theme song to the hit American sitcom Friends, which premiered in 1994. Although The Rembrandts write most of their own songs, this one was written specifically for the show by Michael Skloff and Allee Willis and was initially offered to They Might Be Giants and REM .

After a Tennessee disc jockey looped the original short version into a full-length track and played it on the air, it became so popular that they had to record it. "Our record label said we had to finish the song and record it. There was no way to get out of it," lead singer Phil Sōlem said.
The song made it onto L.P., the album The Rembrandts released in 1995, at the last moment. The song was not released as a single at first, a then common practice by record companies who feared it would cannibalize album sales.
The song topped the Billboard Hot 100 Airplay chart for eight weeks. When the single was finally released, it reached number two in the UK and reached seventeenth on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 as the flipside to "This House is not a Home".

"Last Kiss" is a song that was written by Wayne Cochran in 1962 and originally performed by Wayne Cochran & the C.C. Riders, although their version of the song had little success.

The song was also covered by Pearl Jam, becoming the band's biggest hit to date. The idea to cover the song came about after lead singer Eddie Vedder found an old record of the song at an antiques store in Seattle. He convinced the rest of the band to try out the song and it was performed throughout their 1998 tour. The band eventually recorded the song at a soundcheck and released it as a 1998 Fan Club Christmas single.

"Time Bomb" is a song by punk band Rancid. The song comes from their third album ...And Out Come the Wolves and was their highest charting single, peaking at number 8 on US Modern Rock chart. "Time Bomb" is a ska-punk song, similar to the sound of Operation Ivy in which Tim Armstrong and Matt Freeman used to play before Rancid. It borrows a portion of the lyrics from an earlier song, "Motorcycle Ride", which appeared on the group's Let's Go album. Time Bomb features an organ solo from Vic Ruggiero of The Slackers. Time Bomb was featured in the 2000 Gilmore Girls episode "Cinnamon's Wake". Time Bomb was also used in the 2005 movie Fun With Dick and Jane.

Simple Plan - Shut Up!

Shut Up! is the second single taken from Simple Plan's second studio album Still Not Getting Any.... It is more of an "In Your Face" track, as the band are telling music critics to just 'shut up!'. It could also be seen as a track that kids can relate to because the person that Simple Plan seems to be telling to 'shut up!' are parents.

The video starts out with the boys walking down the street, into a hotel. Once inside, they walk into the ballroom, where there is a fancy party going on. Grabbing their instruments, they start playing, creating a huge disturbance. The party goers begin to get very upset, as the members of Simple Plan begin jumping on tables and destroying everything. As some of the younger members of the party begin to start getting into it, a man leans toward the Lead Singer and says "Dude, there's been a major mix up." Pierre Bouvier asks "Are we in the wrong place?" and, upon confirmation, exclaims "I thought something was up!" the video then goes through a fast motion rewind, and ends up in a club, where the remainder of the song is played. This is the only video by Simple Plan to date that stops the song midway for dialogue.

"American Idiot" is a song by American Rock band Green Day, and is the first single from their seventh album, American Idiot.

Released in 2004, the single peaked at #61 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Green Day's first chart entry (previous singles had not charted), helping revive the band's career. "Morning Glory" is a song by British rock band Oasis, written by Noel Gallagher, and which was released on the band's second album (What's the Story) Morning Glory? in October 1995. It was given an Australian-only single release and was also a radio single in the United States.

Gallagher claims that he was drunk while writing it, and parts of the song were inspired by walking while listening to a walkman ("walking to the sound of my favourite tune") and using cocaine -- ("all your dreams are made/when you're chained to the mirror and the razor blade"), since razors are often used to cut cocaine into lines on a mirror, from which they are then snorted. It has been suggested that the song is about drug addiction in general ("need a little time to wake up/need a little time to rest your mind/you know you should so I guess you might as well").

The line "Tomorrow never knows what it doesn't know too soon" seems to reference The Beatles' song "Tomorrow Never Knows", though Gallagher claims to have completely forgotten why he felt it was relevant to the song.
