Totally dont even need to remove the side skirts, I did it in 45 min for all 4 and just had to remove the tires.

There are a few 08's built. You can check the "Car Journals" section. Having said this, the only difference you will find between an 08 to 11 is the turbo (power wise) and suspension (handling wise) IMO all WRX suspension is pretty soft and needs some work. There are numerous cosmetics/aesthetics that also differ. Therefore, I think other build journals should be sufficient information for you to get "some feel" in performance/handling department.

IMO a 16/18g turbo is a waste on these 2.5s but it's really your call. I'd say an 18g wont make much more than a vf52 pending mods of course. For $600 I'd suggest picking up a low mileage vf52 or saving up some more money for a better turbo; do it right the first time.

$3.69 in the chicago burbs by me as of a couple of days ago for me, getting about 20.4 mpg with extended warm ups cause of the cold and fairly limited driving time.

looks good, yea wait around and see what turbo's pop up and jump on a good deal. As for TMIC I would definitely agree and go with process west or spearco although one bit of warning, I've heard some people having issues with PW, and spearco isn't out just yet (in the final stages of production) so there's no word yet on any potential problems or fitment issues it may or may not have, but then again spearco is a proven name so your call. Even though those two options don't sound very appealing, it's kinda sad they are our best two options. All other TM's either have budget cores or fitment is poo.

DP: You'll have to choose between catted or non-catted, again your call. This might not be a popular recommendation but since you're stay stock CBE I would suggest cobb cause every other DP you need a 3" to 2.5" adaptor. Cobb's DP has a 2.5" opening so no adaptor is needed. Even though an adaptor is like $30 I just see it as another thing that could cause another leak, but again that's my ...

Gonna start my build thread today with the first two additions to my beautiful white WRX.

1st. Stopped by the local tint shop, Supertints out of Oroville, CA and got hooked up with the tints all the way around. I went with 5% on all the rear windows, 80% on the front windows and a nice clean, medium width straight strip across the windshield.

2nd. Ordered up some new black with grey lettering Rally Armor mud flaps from PRE Racing out of Portland Oregon. These are super clean and really get me on my way to a rally inspired look that I love so much. Nothing says AWD like flaps on all four. First impressions are great. I gotta say this was a nice ice-breaker mod, ie remove your side skirts, remove your fender covers and bring a screwdriver and a socket and your done. It's always been tough for me to tear off that first panel on a new car! Ha.

Thanks for some helpful information.

I'm aware of the suspension and will be researching that further to see what are good setups.

I have 3 well known tuners in my area locally. 2 of which are known to work with Subarus and one of them is highly recommended by the local Subaru community so I will probably start talking with him tomorrow.

The meth setup was put in there because I had a few people suggest it, one has a 02 WRX w/meth with I believe ~325-380whp (sorry I can not remember what he is putting down).

On to my decision, I know that it ultimately comes down to what I want to do. Honestly I think I made my decision a long time ago, but have been going back in forth as to what to do. I've always said that I'm going to go e85 so I believe I will end up going that route. The CBE does not matter to me since I enjoy it being a sleeper, I've surprised a lot of people so far with what this car can do (even though its the slow version and underrated).

So what I would probably end up do...

First I think you need to decide on what you want; judging by the list above you seem to have a lot of options to choose from. If you have E85 readily available, I see no reason to not run it. That being said, there is no reason to waste money on a meth setup; put that into injectors and a pump. Talk to your tuner and find out which injectors and what size he recommends for your mods; everyone has their opinion on what works and I'd leave the important stuff up to the guy that is tuning. A catback exhaust is only going to get you noise, it may rob you of 5whp in the end but it isn't necessary at all. I'd suggest the following:

vf-52
injectors
fuel pump (DW if you dont want to modifly the housing, Walbro if you want to save money and mod the bucket)
Opensource tune (no reason to waste money on an AP when you can do the same with a laptop and a tactrix cable)
Process west or Spearco tmic
downpipe
EBCS 3-port GrimmSpeed
Wideband

thats it im in michigan right now and 93 is 3.85/gal and will hit near 5 bucks in a couple months from what people are saying, im gonna be tuning the car for e85 ($2.89/gal) with 750cc injectors. and with a bad O2 sensor at the moment i get 19 mpg on highway..... shit the e85 tune will get better mileage than that

There's lots of ways to go to achieve your power goals. With a VF-52 you might have to do more to get more, with a bigger turbo you can probably do less to achieve your 350whp wishes. Everyone will have their own say which route to go, so it's kinda up to you ultimately which brand you decide to go with. I think as a minimum you should look into upgraded your turbo, DP, injectors, fuel pump, IC (FM or yield more power and there are options that are as cheap as TM), EBCS, and pro tune and you'll reach your power goals. But just a piece of advice to you as you want to auto-x your car, don't overlook suspension. Our 3g's are probably more short on that than power.

Mod suggestions for my 08 WRX

First off, I've tried searching around a lot and it seems that I can not find to many build threads on 08's. My 08 WRX is bone stock right now. I bought the car with RallyArmor mud flaps on it and that it the only thing that is not stock on the car. This will be used as my daily driver and fun car on the weekends.
My goals for the car is to be able to hit at least a solid 300awhp/tq, but would love ~350awhp/tq and I'm definitely interested in going to e85 as soon as I can since it is readily available here. I want this to be a fun car when I push the gas, maybe some autocross/rallycross/track days here and there but only for fun.

Suspension is still up in the air as well.

Here are some setups that I have had people suggest, let me know if anything else is needed to them or not needed. Also if you could give me some ideas on which brand, sizes, etc.... on different parts to l...

decided to do my 5th grill tonight. i dont know if ill ever get a true functioning rear diffuser so i wanted to get rid of the rear parachute we call a bumper. now looking under the car the spare tire compartment does have a 1" lip coming off of it at an angle. this is so air hits the lip and gets blasted under the bumper and not up into the bumper. the problem is a ton of air still gets up in there from the sides and everywhere else. and i know this because its very dirty in there, lots of dirty water splashes from one side of the bumper to the other.

now im hoping this acts to let some of the air escape and not create so much drag. there's no way to measure this but i think it looks good it better than nothing.

the harbor freight setup actually works pretty darn well,
but to make a color like that.... I would call up some local guys that do custom powdercoat jobs for quads, sand rails, ect, and see what they say, maybe sent them some samples of touch up paint if you have any. They do the metallic blends pretty often and do really good jobs, they might give you some pointers too.

I got another email from Curt today (Wednesday) and spoke to him on the phone just before I left work.
Good afternoon,

Here are some pictures of the completed work on the vehicle. Photo 1 is of the new bracket under the cowl, #4 is the repair on the bracket on the firewall side, and #5 is a shot from further away on the inside his hand is right where the repair is made. Due to the angle I can’t get a faraway picture with the weld in it.

The dash is back in, as well as the new blower motor. I have road tested the vehicle and there are no rattles or creaks from the dash area. I’ll be calling you by 4 to talk about the clutch.

Sorry, I have slacked on updating this thread. I dropped the car off on Monday as planned. I mentioned to Curt that morning (for the first time) that my AC blower motor whistles. This was the next time I heard from him, Tuesday:
Hello

Here are a couple of pictures of the broken welds on the vehicle. The body shop rep will be out here soon to look at and repair the vehicle. I’ll take some more for you once the repairs are made.

Techline stated that replacing the clutch is not a standard part of this repair, the failure is due to the welds and not a clutch plate issue. We will road test the vehicle and make sure that the clutch is operating properly before you get the vehicle back.

We are replacing the blower motor for the HVAC system.

Let me know if there is anything else I may do for you.

vent is installed! antenna delete is nearing completion - it's been welded and metal-sprayed, needs a good sanding and primer to "wrap things up". here are some decent cell phone pics. i have pro photos from the shop, soon.

Keep in mind if you get the SUBARU add-on lip underspoiler you won't be able to fit the STi style lip spoiler onto it.. the v-limited or HPT style. The premium bumper cost about the same as the add-on spoiler but it does not come painted. Most bodyshops charge around $150 to paint a bumper. Add on STi style or HPT lip as shown above ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

yes, to upgrade to the premium bumper you have to buy a whole new cover. The "lip" part looks like it is an add on, but is actually part of the entire bumper. You can buy an oem subaru lip that will fit on your non-premium bumper like a few members have done on here. Personally I like the look of the add on lip vs the premium bumper. Hope this helps.

Going to be ordering some here shortly..(today) Just wondering about spring rates.. I daily drive this thing, mostly on freeway.. then other half of my driving is on pretty crappy southern california roads. As far as power goes, Im stage 2. I dont know if that will be a factor in deciding what spring rate to choose. Thanks all.

I carry replacement LED bulbs for the reverse and they definitely are brighter but the angle and location of the reverse lights in general is poor and not focused low enough so even with good led bulbs it is only a minor upgrade. They look fantastic though. Clams pm me maybe we can barter services again =]

The addition of the fog light relay is only required if you are adding the OEM switch stalk because your car did not come with fog lights originally. For those that have the OEM fogs already, the lights should just be a direct replacement. Sorry for any confusion. We will update the instruction PDF.

As for the screws, they should be corrosion resistant. Looks like we need to find a new source for them. For those of you who have purchased the Halo Hallows already, we will send some replacement screws as soon as we get them sorted out. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience.

The Sylvania bulbs do seem brighter, I put one into the trunk lamp and made a big difference and in the reverse lamps and they are brighter, can't beat $10.

I'd put them on a separate switch, as well as run them as regular reverse lights.

(so you want to drive down the highway with your high beams on, huh)

I have not heard about a relay, I asked this question at the beginning. I have mine installed, but not completely wired. I am going to use a switch. I do have a 12 volt voltage regulator that I am going to insatall.

Sylvania makes reverse light bulbs that are similar to their silverstars. They are supposedly brighter and I have been considering trying them I just haven't got to it yet. You should be able to find them at any Advance auto, Auto Zone, Pep Boys etc.
