Dear Families,
Originally we planned to go to Mill Pond Park for our picnic on Wednesday June 9. In looking at the forecast for the week it looks like rain, AGAIN! To make sure the kids still get this opportunity, we would like to change the picnic to TUESDAY June 8 instead.
Kids will need to pack a sack lunch, if they have a football or frisbee to throw around that would be terrific. We also plan to allow time for end of the year autographs, so if they have their year books they can take those along. As a treat, we will have juice pops after lunch.
Slather them up in sunscreen and pray for sun!

Dear Families,
This should be the second week of reading biographies and beginning work on posters. Remember, beautiful neat thoughtful work! Posters are due 5/24. We'll begin preparing for speeches the following week.
Spelling words for the week are contractions, the list follows:
I'm, it's, he's, that's, didn't won't, let's, haven't, doesn't, aren't, I've, they've, we're, you'll, needn't, you've, should've, that'll.
There is no math, but please do encourage your children to read every night.

Your children should have come home with a large biography poster and a 1/2 sheet explaining the homework for the next few weeks. Essentially, they are to choose a biography to read and then complete the biography poster after reading. Many students have chosen "Who Was..." books from the classroom. If not, you may need to visit the library to support this project.
The final work on the posters should be thoughtful and careful with colored pencil or crayon to create the art. There should not be any computer copies or photo's inserted, the child's hand is encouraged. Please keep the posters in a dedicated spot so they are not lost, extra copies may be difficult to come by.
Spelling words for this week are compound words, there are no bonus words. The list follows:

Dear Families,
In the attachment is the homework for the coming week. Rather than a Portland paragraph, this time we are supplying a recipe for making crystals at home. There is also a page to record the hypothesis, observations and what students have learned from the experiment. The crystals and recording pages are due on 5/3. Hopefully this will allow enough time for your family to obtain the materials and begin the experiment.
