Taxonomy is as important for IT people as the “Petrificus Totalus” spell is for Harry Potter. Carl Linnaeus was the father of Taxonomy, a Swedish botanist who laid the foundations for a classification system that is now widely used in biological sciences. My mind is now boggling at this inspiring discovery of how Linnaeus came up with the name of the morning flower, otherwise known as COMMELINA:

“Delightful Linnaeus, who dearly loved his little joke, himself confesses to have named the day-flowers after three brothers Commelyn, Dutch botanists, because two of them—commemorated in the showy blue petals of the blossom—published their works; the third, lacking application and ambition, amounted to nothing, like the third inconspicuous whitish third petal.”

From A Country Year: Living The Questions.

In the eyes of Linnaeus, a white subtle petal represented indolence. I will never look at flowers the same way again.

While trying to find a costless and speedy way to run objective C on Windows, I suddenly came up with three different solutions -equally time consuming but yet efficient. (I love using dashes btw.) :) (And smilies too.) So, having this ‘unique moment in time where a coherent ammount of knowledge was appointed to a certain neural alleyway of mine’ I immediately felt the need to commemorate my ‘late’ brain cells – the ones that departed a long time ago and took my knowledge of C++ with them. (I told you I loved dashes.) So, this short post was written in loving memory of a particular procedure of a brain and in celebration of a new systematic method of studying.

I don’t think you can be any more geekier than that… :)

Στην πραγματικότητα μου αρέσει που το μυαλό μου πετάγεται από το ένα θέμα στο άλλο! Που είναι το κακό με το να αλλάζεις συνέχεια σταθμούς στο ραδιόφωνο;

Youth unemployment in France is at 25 percent and rising. “youth unemployment 2009” is a Breakout! term in Google Insights.

Iranian women had, on average, 7 children in 1984. In 2006, they had 1,9. Ageing populations are rising.

Multinational memberships have a far greater impact in the global map of world politics. Countries are no longer supreme. Obama-less?

Sovereignty, autonomy, independence and the assertion of power are not to be found in pre-election programs of Hellenic political parties.

Germany and France, were historically and still are the most influential nations in Europe. Why?

Politics can’t be understood outside a global context.

Voting is not an act. It is an act in concert.

I could probably tweet what I’m thinking… :)

Inevitably a creative self finds inspiration in the most strange places. Twitter seems so obvious and simple, and yet is endlessly complex. And so large and perversive, that if one tries to explain its functionality and its significance in a small context, he will completely and utterly fail. It takes a lot to offer an ample narrative of Twitter, whereas it takes far more less to use it. A Twitter user may compose a tweet (a text-based post) of up to 140 characters. Most of us are able to write short 140-char updates of our everyday living which Wikipedia categorizes as “Self-Promotion”, “Spam” or “Pointless babble”, a term that statistics find extremely accurate for 60% of the Twitter users. But who can really say that? Twitter is based in the notion of a “spontaneous” method of reproduction of information. “Pointless babble” is nevertheless, information. Kind of, everlasting one. It will stay in your profile page forever. That’s why tweets remind me of photographs. They capture this decisive moment in time where you were… spontaneous. And that’s why Twitter is ranked as one of the most popular websites worldwide. Because it allows you to be spontaneous.

I thought this very nature, makes Twitter a perfect means of inspiration. And without much effort or guilt I wrote my “pointless babble”. The one that you just read and what follows… :)

I tweet the ones not afraid to love with boundaries.
Because love grows on a 140 characters field every afternoon.
Never mind the bounden fields. You are the greenest forest.

It’s my #poetry, my first #poetweet (in two parts). Not at all “pointless”. Forget the #irony. Should I make it more obvious?

It’s #love.

#present.

It’s a love present in time.

Thank you Twitter for reflecting a culture’s way with the world!

And since this is my first post in English let me buy you a Twitter song as well… :)
