I went thrifting yesterday and found some brand new Express shirts GASP! I don't think I'll ever understand why people buy things and give them to Goodwill or thrift shops without ever wearing them. Smh. Either way it goes, I came out winning! Definitely bought those Express shirts I saw and a couple other goodies. An hourglass, two beer company glasses (one from Alaska), and a cute picture frame. The pictures below are some of the things I saw but didn't buy unless mentioned so.

Totally bought this hour glass. It was calling my name! It's pretty big too. From my elbow to the tip of my fingertips. It's going to look nice in my living room... once I figure out where I want to put it.

Yes people, this weekend is the Comicpalooza! It's a three day event right here in Houston, Texas. It'll be held at the George R. Brown Convention (GRB) Center and lucky for you, I have a pair of tickets for all three days!

For those of you who have no idea what i'm talking about, let me break it down. The first Comicpalooza started in 2008 here in Houston. Every year that goes by, there's a bigger and better turn out. I've never attended but have heard plenty of folks rave about how awesome it is. Who isn't interested in a comic book, science fiction, and pop culture convention?! That's pretty much everything i'm into Lol! Meet celebrities, check out booths, wear costumes, and have fun! Sounds fun to me.

Patrick Stewart from Star Trek is going to be there, along with the Star Trek: The next generation enterprise-D bridge! The set was rescued last year from being destroyed. Please tell me you know what I'm talking about?! Even if you're not a big fan (which I'm not, please don't hit me) I'm sure you've seen the show and maybe even liked an episode or two. That's gotta count for something right?!

Other guests include Michelle Rodriguez (Rawr!), Danny freakin' Trejo, Avery Brooks, Walter E. Jones, Peter Mayhew, Scott Steiner, and many more. Check out this link for the rest of the Guest list. I bought the Kindle version of this book from Amazon last night. I didn't get to far cause my eyes started messing with me but I can already tell it's going to be an awesome read! I'm not very familiar with who Kelly Oxford is but I did Google her before buying this book and found her twitter and tumblr. Both of which are both very entertaining. A Beautiful Mess App

Everyone's talking about it and i'm no different. :]

In case you haven't heard, A Beautiful Mess came out with an awesome photo app. I know it's available on iTunes but I'm not sure if it's available for android yet. I'm sure they'll do something in the future though.

The app lets you add filters, doodles, text, borders, and phrases. You can purchase the addons for each of these in the app. I'm not sure how much it costs because the app doesn't make that clear.. or maybe i'm just not looking in the right place? Lol!!

Overall I think it's cute and a creative little app. A little change to the regular photo apps that are out there.

The app costs $.99 in the iTunes store and so far I haven't found any issues with it. It doesn't freeze and it loads pretty fast. You can share the photo once you're done and it saves to your phone automatically. I'm sure i'll be experimenting some more with it so check out my instagram. Also search #abeautifulmess on instagram and you can see how others are using it.

Mother's day was pretty awesome! Anytime my sister, mom and I are together it's like a straight up comedy show. We clown so much and laugh so hard that I can only imagine what people are saying at us Lol! It's been rainy and pretty nasty in Houston the last couple of days so I was pretty surprised that yesterday was such a gorgeous day. Hot as hell, but still a very nice day!

The other day E was playing with his RC car new expensive hobby of ours and had the TV on for background noise. He had Austin City Limits on PBS on. Austin City Limits is full of awesome music. From jazz to rock to hip hop to tejano music. The show inspired the creation of the Austin City Limits Music Festival, an annual live music festival at Zilker Park in Austin that lots of folks rave about.

This show is where I found Kat Edmondson. She was on the May 4th show with Norah Jones. I'm not a big fan of Norah Jones, some of her music annoys me. I was in my room messing with the furkids and I heard a different voice. It was high pitched and reminded me of old timey music from the 20's & 30's, kinda like the shit I would hear on Boardwalk Empire I miss that show! Below is the song that was playing that caught my attention.

Kat Edmundson was born in Houston Stand Up! and then moved to Austin, TX. Austin is widely known as the Live Music Capital of the World! It makes sense that if she wanted to sing she should hit that city up. Her first album Take to the Sky had some covers on it and her second album was funded by Kickstarter. I think it's pretty cool that folks help other folks reach their dreams.

Sleepyti.me Calculator

Lately E and I have been going to sleep late, like midnight late. That's totally not like us. We normally go to bed around 10-10:30 PM. Going to sleep late means dreading to get out of bed the next day. I wake up at 5:30 AM in order to be at work at 7 AM. My drive is roughly 30-45 min. Yeah it kinda sucks but if there's no accidents, my drive is pretty smooth. I should mention that due to going to bed late, I've been getting out of bed later and later... making me late to work.. SMH! & srsly motivating me to play the Texas Lotto... yet I still don't..

Anyways, I checked my email this morning and saw an email from Netted by the Webbys. I've been receiving the newsletter for a couple years now. Every now and then they have sites or apps that I've never heard of but are extremely useful to me. Kind of like today..

Today Netted by the Webbys linked me to sleepti.me, a bedtime calculator.

'sleepyti.me works by counting backwards in sleep cycles. Sleep cycles typically last 90 minutes.
Waking up in the middle of a sleep cycle leaves you feeling tired and groggy, but waking up in between cycles lets you wake up feeling refreshed and alert!'

If you think about it, it totally makes sense. If you know what time you have to wake up, it'll tell you different times to go to bed that would be more fulfilling to your busy cabeza and exhausted body. I'm going to see if falling asleep at the times it told me actually work for me.. Not tonight though cause it's Frrrrriiidaaaayyy!! & I have a three-day weekend because E's 30th birthday is Sunday. ;]

You should try to fall asleep at one of the following times:

8:30 PM or 10:00 PM or 11:30 PM or 1:00 AM

Please keep in mind that you should be falling asleep at these times.

The average adult human takes fourteen minutes to fall asleep, so plan accordingly!

So that's what it told me, what did it tell you?!

Thrift Finds 5.0

Old Kool-aid box for $6 Too rich for my wallet.
A painting on a feather from Honduras for $2 I think this is going to look great on my wall.
Not really sure what this is. Looks like a divider with book covers glued on it.. -shrugs-
Massive framed corkboard. Looks like it was originally a picture frame and someone added the cork board part. Not mentioning how much I paid for it LOL! Not a really good job LOL, but I can make it work. I think I might be a bit obsessed with cork boards :/
Take a little time to do whatever makes you happy picture frame for $.50 I bought this with the idea of using the picture frame alone, but it's kinda grown on me..
This Panama wood board was pretty cool looking. It was hidden behind some crappy frames. Didn't like the pricetag of $26.
Pass through life picture frame for $1. Really like this script. Might clean it up a bit or just remove the script and put it in another frame.
This slate was mined in Pennsylvania and floated down the Ohio and Mississippi River on rafts. Later used on a New Orleans roof for $3. There were a couple of these, but I chose this one because it was chipped at the top right Definitely hanging this one in the living room.

Roller Derby Chicks Kick Ass!!

Every third Saturday of the month, the Bayou Music Center hosts the Houston Roller Derby. Guess who got to attend her first show?! Yup, you got it.. me!! I didn't know what to expect. I mean, I saw a couple videos on Youtube but that's not the same.

Before we went in, we made sure to buy koozies and tshirts to support all the ladies! :] We saw two badass games. The Bayou City Bosses vs. The Psych Ward Sirens and The Valkyries vs. The Brawlers. Both games were super entertaining. During the first game we were a bit confused.. by the second game we had most of the rules down. We will definitely be attending more games. If you decide to check this out, make sure you get there early if you're not getting VIP tickets. It's basically first come first serve and if you've got someone tall in front of you you're kinda SOL. For the second game we were right in the crash zone. I was a bit worried but nothing major happened. Lol!

The next day we went to the Boneyard Drinkery like most Sundays and ran into one of the refs from the game. Small world huh?! He explained the game a bit more and told us about some of the players..like Freight Train (picture above) She is a beast! Fast and coordinated like crazy! She's definitely one of our favorite jammers!

Visit the Houston Roller Derby site and check out when the games will be on. I swear you'll have a great time. These ladies are ruthless skaters and sweethearts off the track. Also, Houston Roller Derby has started Co-Op practices. I think it'll be interesting and maybe a bit dangerous, but I'm still down to watch it.

Don't forget to visit the Boneyard Drinkery for some awesome furkid time with great beer/wine and awesome food truck action.

I've been going to sleep really late lately.. I'm talking midnight or later. It's quite sad when I think about it cause I love sleeping, who doesn't?! Normally I get a smoothie from Smoothie King with energy but my coworkers voted on Starbucks this morning. I've been trying to stay away these amazing frapps cause umm.. my stomach doesn't like me too much after one of these but sometimes ya gotta do whatcha gotta do Lol!

How do you snap yourself out of sleep mode on those mornings where the bed feels fantastical?!

Happy Monday! Hope everyone had a great weekend! Mine, as usual, was full of awesome food. I hope my metabolism never changes cause the way I eat daily is ridiculous Lol!

Fraiche Mobile Kitchen

Do you see that photo of fantastical nomnoms?! If I had to eat a food truck for the rest of my life rather than a restaurant.. I'd be completely down for that. I think it's a combo of the delicious plates, the sweet prices, and I rather support a small business owner then a big time restaurant. I know some folks that will not eat from a food truck no matter what they serve. I hear all sorts of reasons - It's dirty, the food isn't fresh, I don't like waiting in line, and my favorite.. There's no where to sit and eat Lol! I've never felt sick after eating from a food truck, in fact I think I've felt sick plenty of times from fancy restaurants. Not to mention the service isn't always great whereas the service at food trucks is awesomesauce. The food is definitely fresh, just taste it!! Lines are everywhere, man up and taste the goodness already! Food trucks aren't suppose to have a table and chairs, you're lucky if they do. Again, man up and stop your whining. K, I've ranted long enough on food trucks...

I like going to the Boneyard Drinkery, Houston's first bar/dogpark! They always have food trucks and yesterday Bernie's Burger bus was there until 5pm and Fraiche Mobile Kitchen rolled up behind it. My husband and I are big Bernie's burger fans so we ordered a burger and brisket fries from them before they closed shop. An hour later we were in line at Fraiche's truck to order more food. Lol! We can't help it, we love to eat! The picture above is what we ordered at Fraiche - Carnitas Hash which is Carnitas, tater tots (which I can eat everyday), veggies, onions, and the best part (IMO) cilantro sauce. Above it is Crème Brulee french toast with maple syrup - How can you possibly say no to that?! Lol! K, enough about food ;]

Really, really like this quote. I think it suits us all and it's a good way of looking at the beginning of the week since we all kinda dislike Monday! Weekend full of Cars!

MECUM Auctions at Reliant

Chevy NOVA - One of my all time favs!!

I went to two events this weekend that were all about cars. I love oh-ing and ah-ing at cars and D, my camera, doesn't mind the work! Saturday morning I woke up early for Coffee and Cars at Vintage Park (Tomball) It was introduced to me as Cars and Coffee but the site says the name the other way. All I know is that it was fantastical. It's nice to see families out there walking around. Father's with their kids, super excited. People bring their dogs and there's vendors - all from 8am - 10am. It's not a close venue for me so that means I had to wake up early on my off day :/ It was well worth it though.

Later that day I hit up the MECUM Auction in Reliant. My husband's best friend's father owns MuscleCarsofTexas.com and had a couple cars in the auction. I've never been to an auction, I've seen it on TV. Better yet, I've flipped by the channel when it was on TV. LOL! It was pretty cool to be up close and see the cars, hear the auctioneers and see how excited the crowd gets. I would have taken a lot of pictures there too, but they're a little picky about what you can and can't take pictures of. I snuck in a couple of some cars that I liked.. like the Bel Air. I didn't notice it until my husband mentioned it to me, but I have a thing for Bel Air's LOL! Idk what it is about them, but I like them, more the station wagon looking ones :]

2. Add spiffy typography to your photos with Over on iOS for $1.99 I downloaded this a couple weeks ago and love the different fonts and colors I can add to my photos. I hardly ever buy apps but this one is well worth it.

3. Instagram is a huge part of my life. The filters and the community type feel of it is why I am still a part of it. This is a list that Apartment Therapy came up with on what your Instagram filter says about you. I'm a big Earlybird user and Rise user. Which are you?!

4. I don't have many games on Shanky, mostly cause I'm a social media nerd. Yesterday I decided to download Domino! and it's really become one of my go to apps Who isn't into playing bones?!

5. Looking for Thrift Stores in your area, start with this link I haven't used it cause I have secret thrift stores lol

6. Grilled cheese re-invented Srsly looks good

I like black, did you notice?! Happy Birthday to me! It's my last year in my twenties - No I don't think i'm old, but I know I'm no longer a kid. Someone corrected me at my party this past weekend, they said I haven't been a kid for a while now Lol! Thanks John haha!

I normally celebrate my birthday with a party or dinner somewhere. Didn't do much for my 28th Birthday, hence the missing picture. Looking at these pictures makes me feel a bit weird. It's like mini chapters of my life.. good and bad memories. I'm not exactly where I want to be yet, but I'm getting pretty close and that brings a pretty big smile to my face!

So glad that today is Friday, it's been a long and exhausting week. Not anything I can't handle though ;]

Yesterday I went to the Houston Rodeo again with my mom and two sisters. One of my sisters is on vacation here from Argentina so of course we had to take her to the Rodeo. It's always nice to hang out with the ladies. We laugh at just about everything and all we do is eat and eat and eat. I'm sure you can relate :]

We were in the nose bleeds, section 640 and this is our panoramic view of the Reliant Stadium I think no matter where you sit, you're going to experience a fantastical show. The energy was crazzzzy!
Bam! I love the fireworks before the performances. Really puts ya in the mood, you know?!
The Oh's and Ah's are pretty entertaining also It's like folks have never seen them before Lol
Fireworks that shoot straight up aren't as cool as the swirly ones Lol
The Houston Astrodome is Houston's old stadium. It's nicknamed the Eighth wonder of the World and I love it, even if it's no longer in operation. Plans are to tear it down because the maintenance is too expensive, but I think we should keep it. It's part of our history!!
