Abu Dhabi Adventure Race

With the preliminary discussions around this year's ADAC finally bearing their fruit, dates aren't the only goodies you'll find in the 2009 Abu Dhabi Adventure Challenge bag. In keeping with the last two years, when early December was chosen as the ideal period, both from the point of view of athletes and organisation, for adventure racing's Blue Ribbon finale, the Abu Dhabi Adventure Challenge will be held from the 4th to the 9th of December.

Over 800 disappointed competitors have not begun their long-awaited desert challenge- instead, stage one of this years edition of the Marathon des Sables has been cancelled due to heavy rain in the desert. Conditions were so bad that competitors were unable to sleep at the race bivouac site, in fact the coaches transporting them couldn't reach the race location, and instead everyone was lodged in hotels in Erfoud. All being well, the race will start on March 30th.

Jungle Marathon 2008

On October 7th around 200 runners and support staff will board the boats to take them to Itapuama for this years edition of Jungle marathon, the worlds wildest eco-race. Jungle Marathon, a six stage seven day footrace though deep jungle, is a self sufficient event, meaning runners face the hideous elevations of the rainforest with the heaviest of backpacks. In addition to clothing, food and first aid kit, they are required to carry a hammock, rainfly sheet and mosi net.

Al Andalus Ultra Trail

New name and tougher still, the Al Andalus Ultra Trail will take place in July 2009 (13th to 17th) 250km, 5 stages in the Poniente Granadino region west of Granada and Sierra Nevada.
