In Mutant Mudds Super Challenge we get more of the same stuff that we loved from Mutant Mudds, but the difficulty has been cranked up considerably in order to challenge even the best Mutant Mudds players. Are you ready for this?[[MORE]]You’ll get to control Max, a very resourceful kid that can run, shoot, jump and hover his way around each level thanks to this trusty water pack. Water is the perfect weapon against the Mudds, and a few hits are all that it takes to get rid of the nasty enemies. Mudds come in many shapes and sizes, going from very tiny enemies that take only one hit up to the massive moving chunks that take four hits to be defeated. There are over 40 levels to complete this time around, and you’ll be searching every area high and low in every level to uncover the secret doorways to the challenge levels that will, well, challenge you even more than the main levels in the game will! On top of this, there’s a ton of secret characters that are even more hidden than the secret doorways, so you’ll definitely have a lot of platforming/hovering/shooting to do as you search everywhere for everything the game has to offer. For those of you who missed out on the wonderful Mutant Mudds, the secret doorways take you to G-Land and V-Land, which are fun nods to the Game Boy and Virtual Boy age and are thus presented with a look and hue that will instantly make you remember games from ages past.You’ll still need to collect 100 coins in each stage, but this time around you’ll need to search inside of the walls just to make sure that some coins aren’t hidden there! Oh, and there’s also a CD in every stage that unlocks a random song in the jukebox for you to enjoy in the game’s main hub are (below the center of the main hub, where you can also find the three power-ups that Max can equip – one power-up at a time).One thing that some people complained about for Mutant Mudds was that there were no boss fights to test their might, but that has been fixed for this new release in the Mutant Mudds universe since there now is a boss at the end of each group of levels, and each one is very different from the others so you’ll need to observe and learn their movement and attack patterns before you can find an opening to do some damage. But to be able to fight each of the bosses in the game you’ll need to clear all regular and bonus secret stages in an area, so no, you can’t just finish a few levels in a set and then fight the boss.Each set of levels includes three regular levels and one ghost level. Regular levels are just your usual and standard regular type of level where the same rules always apply. Ghost levels, on the other hand, feature ghost mutant mudds that can’t be destroyed with Max’s weapons. The only way to get rid of ghost mutant mudds is with a special weapon power-up with a limited ammo count, but even after shooting a ghost out of your way it will still come back to haunt you, so be sure to get out of its way before it is ready to damage you!Mutant Mudds Super Challenge is an excellent game both on Wii U and 3DS U that you’ll be able to enjoy at home or on the go without a problem because buying either version will allow you to get the other absolutely free! That’s right: this is a Cross-Buy release. And to make this deal even better, if you own Mutant Mudds, you’ll also get a small discount on Mutant Mudds Super Challenge! I did a full run on the 3DS, and the game looked great, and the action and controls were tight and perfect, not to mention the great use of 3D in the game, just as was the case for the original Mutant Mudds. The second after I was done with my full run on 3DS, I turned on my Wii U to do it all over again, and was still having a blast since I was now able to focus on doing a full run with a lower death count (I ended up finishing Mutant Mudds Super Challenge on 3DS with over 300 deaths!) since I now knew what to expect. The larger screen on the Wii U GamePad (as well as the larger screen on my TV) made me feel as if the game had gotten a bit easier due to the larger area to focus on where I could see all the action blown up to a much bigger image… or maybe it was because I had already done a full run on 3DS and knew that the game was very challenging and ruthless. 4CR Plays: Lovely Planet
Lovely Planet is cruel. You’ll fail if you don’t shoot all the baddies or if you’ve destroyed the platform you were supposed to get on, and also if you accidentally shot the good, purple anxious-looking guys. Or even worse, you’ll fail if an apple, thrown like a skeet disc, touches the ground. Oh, and watch your step so you don’t touch those immobile red blobs on the ground. A level won’t take you more than a minute to complete but the simple attempt to conquer some of the most brutal ones could potentially total hundreds of tries, and I don’t think I’m exaggerating. I told you, Lovely Planet is cruel.

Wartile returns from Valhalla to fight another day!
Great news! Thanks to an Unreal dev grant from Epic Games, Wartile has taken the first steps to get back on track for a wide release! We loved the game (you can check out interview with the team here) and are stoked that the team has received this grant. Hopefully this is the first step down a road to broad availability!
4cr Plays: Day of the Tentacle Remastered
Culture is constantly being recycled, and often times whomever is doing the recycling makes the choice to update whatever it is to reflect today’s sensibilities. Usually that means that characters are changed slightly, and sophomoric mistakes are corrected or glossed over. Even if the company doing the reworking is the very one that created the art in the first place things can go colossally wrong. Unlike other poorly considered remakes, the re-release of Day of the Tentacle in its Remastered form is a great example of what can happen when a studio with roots in the project upgrades the experience without touching the story or themes.
