Shifting his bike into the highest gear possible, he cranked back on the accelerator, hunched his body downward, and, with all the force the machine could generate, he let it fly forward at 100-plus miles per hour.

Unstoppable in the ring and undefeated as a professional fighter, as the car merged into his lane of traffic, he was no match for what he was about to meet, head-on.

Regaining consciousness in a hospital room, lucky to be alive, Jonathan knew he needed to make big changes in his life; he just didn’t know how.

You see for him, moving at an unreasonable rate of speed was, up until now, how he lived. As a successful fighter, he was living the high life and enjoying the spoils that went with it: cars, boats, houses, clothes, etc.

In was during his most vulnerable moment that a man walked into his recovery room and made him a promise: If you do exactly what I say, your life can be completely transformed. Not yet a believer, Jonathan didn’t understand what the man meant as he talked about God and Jesus, however, he did know the meaning of the word “transformed”. He also knew that that was exactly what he needed. And, as Jonathan repeated the words spoken by his new friend, the transformation began to take place.

Sometimes God gets your attention in subtle, soft ways. Other times, He may allow (or cause) your entire foundation to quake.

For this mom, it was very much the latter.

During the fall of 2005, the “perfect family” image she was trying to lead people to believe she had, crumbled from beneath her feet and the mother of two found herself quickly scrambling to keep the lights on and to make ends meet.

Unprepared and ill-equipped for the challenges she now had to face, she did what anyone would do; whatever it took.

In the three years it took for Jennifer to regain traction, she saw a wide gap in available single-parenting resources and healthy fellowship opportunities.

Jon Acuff used to be a Serial Quitter.

He had eight jobs in eight years, constantly hoping the next one would be different.

From writing advertising for The Home Depot to branding for companies like Bose and Staples, he’s no stranger to the cubicle.

In 2010, Jon closed the gap between his day job and his dream job when he joined the Dave Ramsey team to become a full-time author.

He has contributed to CNN.com, speaks nationally on a variety of subjects, and is the author of three books: Quitter; Gazelles, Baby Steps And 37 Other Things Dave Ramsey Taught Me About Debt; and Stuff Christians Like.

He lives in Nashville, TN, with his wife and two daughters.

Much too young to be saddled with the responsibilities awaiting him, at the tender age of six, he was thrown into a complex world no one could ever fully prepare for.

A world filled with recognizable uncertainty.

And, while most children were gearing up for a visit from Santa Claus, the anticipation of fun times and lasting memories, as 1976 drew to a close, Manny was sent to a place no child should ever have to visit – the cancer ward.

He was in bad shape. After the first of his 30-plus operations, the experts staged his condition and placed him in category 2 A Hodgkins Disease.

Radiation.

Hair loss.

Chemotherapy.

Weight-loss.

His doctor gave him six months to live.

And then something shifted in the Heavens.

Pushing aside her desires for self-expression and creativity, the holding pattern she found herself in, was keeping her from growing into the woman that she, (deep down) knew she could become.

And, while she had spent years putting the needs and expectations of others well ahead of her own self care, she came to realize  that the example she was setting, was a long way away from the message she wanted to communicate.
