With the current expansion of Photoshop, it is difficult to determine that picture is posted online for real or fake can be. Every year hundreds of photos are viral on the Internet, and in most cases we have an opinion on their authenticity. Spider-Man Lizard

The Mwanza Flat-headed Agama (Agama mwanzae) is a lizard in the family Agamidae. It is found in Tanzania, Rwanda and Kenya. In 2009, a photograph of the lizard went viral after people recognized the similarity to Spider-Man. The male’s head, neck and shoulders are bright red or violet, while the body is dark blue. Since the picture became popular, the species has turned into a fashionable pet.

Anjana the Chimp

Anjana is a chimpanzee that lives at TIGERS: The Institute of Greatly Endangered and Rare Species in South Carolina, U.S. Since she was young, Anjana has taken it upon herself to help zoo keeper China York raise young animals that have become separated from their families. In 2008, her story was reported by media outlets around the world when pictures of Anjana with a baby white tiger went viral. TIGERS founder Dr. Bhagavan Antle has said of the chimp: “Anjana has joined China in caring for baby animals. She has acted as a surrogate mother to leopards, lions, orangutans and white tigers. She gives them a bottle and lies with them. She is a great assistant.”

Eclipse over Bangkok

A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Earth and Sun, thereby totally or partially obscuring the image of the Sun. The solar eclipse of January 15, 2010, was an annular eclipse, meaning the Moon’s diameter appeared smaller than the Sun, causing the Sun to look like an annulus (ring). The event was the longest lasting annular solar eclipse of the millennium, and the longest until December 23, 3043, with a maximum length of 11 minutes, 7.8 seconds. Immediately following the eclipse, a number of photographs of the event went viral. This image was captured in Bangkok, Thailand, and shows an airplane silhouetted against the partial eclipse.

Deer up a Pole

In 2004, a collection of strange pictures surfaced on the Internet of a deer that was discovered atop a 25 foot (7.6 m) tall communications pole. The photos were taken in Headingley, which is a rural municipality in Manitoba, Canada, located directly west of Winnipeg. Several people in the area witnessed the bizarre scene. The local media picked up the story and speculated that the deer was tossed up onto the pole after being struck by a passing train. Others insisted the event was the work of a prankster. Oddly enough, a similar mystery had been previously reported when a deer was found hanging in Delaware County, New York.

Monster Pig

The history of the Internet is full of viral images that show giant animals. In May of 2007, a large domestic farm-raised pig was shot and killed by an eleven-year-old boy named Jamison Stone. The location of the shooting is claimed to be a 150-acre (60 ha) enclosure within the commercial hunting preserve called Lost Creek Plantation, outside Anniston, Alabama. According to the hunters, the pig weighed 1,051 pounds (477 kg) and was 9 feet 4 inches (2.84 m) in length from the tip of its snout to the base of its tail. Stone said he killed the animal with a Smith & Wesson Model 500 that had a mounted holographic scope and ported barrel.

He fired eight 350-grain Hornady cartridges into the pig and chased it for three hours before it collapsed from blood loss. Several days after the story broke, suspicion mounted over the authenticity of the photographic evidence. Retired New York University physicist, Dr. Richard Brandt, used perspective geometry to demonstrate that the boy in the photo was standing several meters behind the pig. However, the Associated Press (AP) continues to keep the monster pig image in their archives with no mention of deception. Some other cases of viral pictures showing giant animals include Hogzilla, the camel spiders in Iraq, the giant catfish, Herman the giant rabbit, the huge eastern diamondback rattlesnakes, and the coconut crab.

Living on the Edge

In December of 2006, photographs were taken of a car accident that involved a close encounter with a 200-foot (61 meter) cliff. During the event, a man was driving his 1991 GMC pickup on Highway 59 near Hurricane City, Utah. While on the road, the man’s car slipped, he overcorrected, and plowed through a cement barrier. The vehicle left the highway, moved over a drainage culvert, did a complete 180, and landed 12 inches (0.3 m) from a 200-foot (61 meter) cliff. The truck ended up in the opposite direction it was traveling. In 2007, a collection of three photographs showing the scene went viral. In the picture, you can see in the upper right hand corner where the truck left the highway, moved over the drainage culvert, did a 180, and stopped next to the massive cliff.

Polar Bear Plays with Huskies

Norbert Rosing is a German wildlife photographer that has been featured in National Geographic magazine. Rosing regularly travels to the western coast of Canada’s Hudson Bay near Churchill, Manitoba, to take pictures of polar bears. In 2006, Rosing captured a collection of photographs of a polar bear playing with a group of sled dogs. He originally thought the bear was going to attack, but was surprised to see it was only curious. According to Norbert’s account, the polar bear later returned to visit the dogs.

Julio Aparicio Gored

Julio Aparicio is one of Spain’s most famous matadors. In 2010, he was performing at the Festival of Saint Isidro, which is considered the most important event in the bullfighting calendar. It is held at the Plaza de Toros las Ventas bullring in Madrid, Spain. During the event, Aparicio was gored in the face by a bull. The bull’s horn entered under Aparicio’s chin and came out his mouth. He was seriously injured in the event and had two surgeries in order to escape death. In 2010, the image quickly went viral.

Plane Hits Truck

On February 4, 1976, a large earthquake struck 160 km (99.5 miles) northeast of Guatemala City, Guatemala. The area suffered extreme damage and most adobe type houses near Guatemala City were completely destroyed. The earthquake hit during the early morning (3:01 am), which contributed to the high death toll of 23,000 people. In June of 1976, National Geographic magazine published an issue dedicated to the earthquake. One picture in the magazine (captured by Robert W. Madden) shows a plane crash. The caption reads: “Buffeted by crosswinds, a rescue plane crashes into a truck, while trying to land on a mountain highway near Sanarate. Miraculously no one suffered serious injury.” Sanarate is the largest city in the El Progreso department of Guatemala.

Bitterroot National Forest Fire

In 2000, the United States suffered a horrible fire season. By the month of August, over 4 million acres of land had been burned. On August 6, 2000, several fires converged in Bitterroot National Forest near the town of Sula in western Montana. As the blaze spread, fire behavior analyst John McColgan captured a remarkable photograph of the scene. The image shows a collection of deer watching the blaze from a river. In 2000, the photograph went viral and continues to symbolize the loss felt from the fires.

Snake Grabs a Wallaby

In 2005, the Australian news outlet ABC Far North Queensland reported on a picture that shows a large olive python pulling a wallaby from the water. In 2007, the image went viral under the description that the snake was eating a cow, which is false. The olive python is Australia’s second largest snake species and they have been known to consume large animals. The snake in the photo is enormous and if you look closely it extends all the way off the right side of the picture. It is difficult to see the entire snake because it is so well camouflaged in the rock face. The picture was taken in the Kimberley region of Western Australia.

Alligator with Deer in its Mouth

In 2004, an image surfaced on the Internet which claimed to show an alligator on Cross Lake (located near Shreveport, Louisiana) with an adult deer its mouth. The image shocked viewers as the lake is a popular spot for fishing and recreational boating. Other websites claimed the photo was taken on Lake Martin in Alabama or in South Carolina. In August of 2004, the U.S Fish & Wildlife Service announced in a press release that the picture was taken in South Georgia, near the South Carolina border by an officer who was preparing to ignite a prescribed fire. The worker was surveying the area in a helicopter. “The sight of a 12-14 foot (3.6-4.3 m) alligator is something that South Georgia folks see occasionally, but few have seen one take an adult deer out to lunch.”

It's times like these that remind us of the sincere innocence that animals possess. These "animals" are not different at all from us "humans" and in some cases are more humane than humans. As a Child if I had a choice between any god and my Mother I choose my Mother, In fact as a grown man I would still make the same choice. Thomas Alva Edison (February 11, 1847 – October 18, 1931) was an American inventor, scientist, and businessman who developed many devices that greatly influenced life around the world, including the phonograph, the motion picture camera, and a long-lasting, practical electric light bulb. Dubbed "The Wizard of Menlo Park" (now Edison, New Jersey) by a newspaper reporter, he was one of the first inventors to apply the principles of mass production and large teamwork to the process of invention, and therefore is often credited with the creation of the first industrial research laboratory.

Edison is the third most prolific inventor in history, holding 1,093 US patents in his name, as well as many patents in the United Kingdom, France, and Germany. The Wright brothers, Orville (August 19, 1871 – January 30, 1948) and Wilbur (April 16, 1867 – May 30, 1912), were two Americans credited with inventing and building the world's first successful airplane and making the first controlled, powered and sustained heavier-than-air human flight, on December 17, 1903. In the two years afterward, the brothers developed their flying machine into the first practical fixed-wing aircraft. Although not the first to build and fly experimental aircraft, the Wright brothers were the first to invent aircraft controls that made fixed-wing powered flight possible.

The brothers' fundamental breakthrough was their invention of three-axis control, which enabled the pilot to steer the aircraft effectively and to maintain its equilibrium. This method became standard and remains standard on fixed-wing aircraft of all kinds. From the beginning of their aeronautical work, the Wright brothers focused on developing a reliable method of pilot control as the key to solving "the flying problem". This approach differed significantly from other experimenters of the time who put more emphasis on developing powerful engines. Using a small homebuilt wind tunnel, the Wrights also collected more accurate data than any before, enabling them to design and build wings and propellers that were more efficient than any before. On September 22, 2010, with the departure of the Expedition 23 crew, Colonel Douglas H. Wheelock assumed command of the International Space Station and the Expedition 25 crew. He is also known as @Astro_Wheels on twitter, where he has been tweeting space photos to his followers since he arrived at the space station.

We thought that we should put some of the space photos together as a tribute to him and the whole ISS crew. The space photos bring breathtaking views from our only off planet Vista point.

Going to need a bigger boat :

Humans think of themselves as the most important creatures ever to walk the planet. But when it comes to size, humans are mere peanuts next to ballpark-sized animals. Here's a snapshot — you never know what a paleontologist will dig up — of some of the biggest animals that have walked our planet, present and past.

Pictured here is the megalodon, also known as Carcharocles megalodon. This creature was a 52-foot shark with jaws big enough to swallow a rhinoceros. It lived about 25 to 1.5 million years ago. Some believers think it may still lurk in our deepest oceans today, though there is no proof of this.

World's Biggest Dog :

Say hello to this gargantuan specimen named Hercules, purportedly the Guinness Record holder for World's Biggest Dog. Hercules is an English Mastiff and has a 38 inch neck and weighs 282 pounds.

With "paws the size of softballs", the three-year-old monster is far larger and heavier than his breed's standard 200lb. limit. Hercules owner Mr. Flynn says that Hercules weight is natural and not induced by a bizarre diet: "I fed him normal food and he just grew, and grew, and grew”.

Giant short-faced bear :

The polar bear is currently the largest bear on Earth, standing at around 8 feet tall. That's still a few feet short of the biggest bear, which is thought to be the South-American giant short-faced bear. Also known as Arctodus, this bear is believed to have tipped the scales at 3,500 pounds and stood 11 feet tall, which is even taller than this diagram shows. Experts say this bear wandered South America from about 500,000 to 2 million years ago. Based on observations of a skeleton (click here for a photo) discovered in 1935 in Argentina, National Geographic reports that "there's nothing else that even comes close" in terms of this powerful meat-eater.

World's Biggest Horse :

Radar, a Belgian draught horse, is the World’s Tallest Living Horse. This huge horse, at 6ft 71/2in from hoof to shoulder, is from Mount Pleasant, Texas. At 2,400lb, he has a giant appetite to match, putting away 20 gallons of water a day and 18lb of grain.

Argentavis :

The largest bird to fly, Argentavis magnificens, was believed to have flown like a high-performance glider, according to experts. This bird was believed to have lived 6 million years ago in Argentina. It was close to the size of a Cessna 152 airplane. As NPR reports, this bird was rather like "a bald eagle with wings that stretch for 21 feet from tip to tip and feathers the size of Samurai swords." It is believed to have soared on the winds like a glider and could reach speeds of up to 150 mph. Experts are still not sure how it achieved landing and takeoff.

World’s Biggest Cow :

As big as a small elephant, Big Cow Chilli and he's described as a gentle giant. Chilli the giant bullock stands at 6ft 6ins and weighs well over a ton. Despite his grand stature, Chilli only grazes on grass during the day and enjoys the occasional swede as a treat.

World's Biggest Pig :

The Liaoning Provincial Agricultural Museum is appealing to the Guinness Book of Records to recognise a 900 kg (1984 pounds) pig which died on February 5 as the biggest pig ever. When the pig died it was 2.5 metres long, had a waistline of 2.23 metres and a tusk of 14.4 centimetres long. According to XU Changjin, a farmer of Wafangdian city, the pig was only 5 years old. He kept his pig in a good built sty and gave it quality food all its life.

Reticulated python :

The animals of prehistory were massive, but there are definitely some heavyweights that exist today. The longest snake is the reticulated python and it generally reaches lengths of up to 20 feet — though the record is 33 feet. They are usually tame but can be "a jumpy and unpredictable species." They are often kept as pets but can turn out to be too much for their owners (click here for a photo of nine men holding one). Python reticulatis is found in the lakes and rivers of Central and South America. It is non-venomous, but it could kill a grown man through strangulation.

World's Biggest Catfish :

At 646LB this Mekong Giant Catfish is the largest freshwater fish in the world. With nearly nine feet long (2.7 meters) and as big as a grizzly bear, this huge catfish caught in northern Thailand may be the largest freshwater fish ever recorded. Although there are many claims and rumours about the world’s largest freshwater specimens, especially from misguided anglers. However, in the eyes of scientist's the Mekong Giant Catfish has taken pole position with the recorded capture of this huge 646LB specimen by local fishermen in 2005. Many anglers over look the fact that some larger fish that can be caught in the worlds rivers, such as Sturgeon, migrate between river and sea, and therefore not considered to be freshwater species in the true sense of the word.

The blue whale :

There's one animal that exists today that measures up to the ancient behemoths. The blue whale can measure up to 100 feet in length and weigh as much as 150 tons. Today most blue whales only reach lengths of 75 to 80 feet because whale hunters tend to target the largest of the species, according to experts. About 50 people could stand on the tongue of an adult blue whale. Even a baby blue whale is gigantic — a newborn calf can be as long as 25 feet and drink as much as 100 gallons of its mother's milk a day. Endangered since the mid-1960s, only 10,000 blue whales are believed to still exist.

World's Tallest Dog :

Hercules might be the biggest dog in the world, but the tallest according to the Guinness World Records is Gibson, a Harlequin Great Dane, who is 42.2 inches. The 170-pound Dane is more than 7 feet tall, taller than most NBA basketball players.

African elephant :
While the blue whale is the largest animal in the ocean, the African elephant is the biggest land animal. The African elephant can live as long as 70 years, can stand as high as 13 feet in the shoulder and weigh as much as 14,000 pounds. They are perhaps among the cleanest animals on the planet, as National Geographic notes that the animal enjoys a good trunk shower, "often spray(ing) its skin with a protective coating of dust." Like the blue whale, its existence on Earth is threatened.

The Price of Gold

The glowing hues of dusk bathe a mud-splattered gold miner in the border province of Manica. The area draws scores of workers from neighboring Zimbabwe who pan for traces of the precious metal in turbid waters.

Zimbabweans risking it all for a better life

Exhausted and caked in mud, they plough wearily on, searching toxic water for traces of gold. Some look west from where they fled, across the border to Zimbabwe towards home. There, the life of miners are even harder. Here in Mozambique, at least, there are no soldiers standing over them with assault rifles.

Whole families have crossed the border to join the hunt for treasure. Zimbabwe has one of the lowest life expectancies in the world. The discovery of gold can literally save lives. But the search destroys lives too. The diggers handle toxic mercury to extract gold from the red earth. They risk suffocation at the bottom of fragile mine shafts that collapse burying occupants all too often.

A few will find enough gold to change their lives, but most will not. Many will become ill and some will pay the ultimate price in their search for gold.

Mining in South Africa has been the main driving force behind the history and development of Africa's most advanced and richest economy. Large scale and profitable mining started with the discovery of a diamond on the banks of the Orange River in 1867 by Erasmus Jacobs and the subsequent discovery and exploitation of the Kimberley pipes a few years later. Gold rushes to Pilgrim's Rest and Barberton were precursors to the biggest discovery of all, the Main Reef/Main Reef Leader on Gerhardus Oosthuizen's farm Langlaagte, Portion C, in 1886, the Witwatersrand Gold Rush and the subsequent rapid development of the gold field there, the biggest of them all.

Diamond and gold production may now be well down from their peaks, though South Africa is still no. 2 in gold but South Africa remains a cornucopia of mineral riches. It is the world's largest producer of chrome, manganese, platinum, vanadium and vermiculite. It is the second largest producer of ilmenite, palladium, rutile and zirconium. It is also the world's third largest coal exporter

Abu Dhabi is the capital and the second largest city in the United Arab Emirates. Abu Dhabi lies on a T-shaped island jutting into the Persian Gulf from the central western coast. The city proper had an estimated population of 896,751 in 2009.

Abu Dhabi houses important offices of the federal government, and is the seat for the United Arab Emirates Government and the home for the Abu Dhabi Emiri Family and the President of the UAE from this family. Abu Dhabi has grown to be a cosmopolitan metropolis. Its rapid development and urbanisation, coupled with the relatively high average income of its population, has transformed Abu Dhabi to a larger and advanced metropolis. Today the city is the country's center of political, industrial activities, and a major cultural, and commercial centre due to its position as the capital. Abu Dhabi alone generated 56.7% of the GDP of the United Arab Emirates in 2008.

Abu Dhabi is home to important financial institutions such as the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange, the Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates and the corporate headquarters of many companies and numerous multinational corporations. History :

The city of Abu Dhabi is geographically located on the north-eastern part of the Persian Gulf in the Arabian Peninsula. It is on an island located less than 250 metres from the mainland and is joined to the mainland by the Maqta and Mussafah Bridges. A third bridge, designed by Zaha Hadid, is currently under construction. Abu Dhabi island is also connected to Saadiyat Island by a 5-lane motorway bridge. Al-Mafraq bridge connects the city to Reem Island and was completed in early 2011. Thhis is a multilayer interchange bridge and it has a total of 27 lanes which allow roughly 25 thousand automobiles to move per hour. There are three major bridges of the project, the largest has 8 lanes, four leaving Abu Dhabi city and four coming in.

Most of Abu Dhabi is located on the island itself, but it has many suburbs on the mainland for example: Khalifa City A,B and C, Al Raha Beach, Al Bahia City A,B and C, Al Shahama, Al Rahba, Between Two Bridges, Baniyas and Mussafah Residential.

Abu Dhabi has a hot arid climate. Sunny/blue skies can be expected throughout the year. The months of June through September are generally hot and humid with maximum temperatures averaging above 35 °C (95 °F). During this time, sandstorms also occur intermittently, in some cases reducing visibility down to a few meters.

The weather is cooler from November to March. This period also sees dense fog on some days. The oasis city of Al-Ain, about 150 km (93 mi) away, bordering Oman, regularly records the highest summer temperatures in the country; however, the dry desert air and cooler evenings make it a traditional retreat from the intense summer heat and year round humidity of the capital city

Architecture :

The density of Abu Dhabi varies, with high employment density in the central area, high residential densities in central downtown and lower densities in the suburbs. In the dense areas, most of the concentration is achieved with medium- and high-rise buildings. Abu Dhabi's skyscrapers such as the notable Abu Dhabi Investment Authority Tower, the National Bank of Abu Dhabi headquarters, the Hilton Hotel Tower and the Etisalat headquarters are usually found in the financial districts of Abu Dhabi. Other notable modern buildings include the Emirates Palace with its design inspired by Arab heritage, and the www.visitabudhabi.com

The development of tall buildings has been encouraged in the Abu Dhabi Plan 2030, which will lead to the construction of many new skyscrapers over the next decade, particularly in the expansion of Abu Dhabi's central business district such as the new developments on Al Sowwah Island and Al Reem Island. Abu Dhabi already has a number of supertall skyscrapers under construction throughout the city. Some of the tallest buildings on the skyline include the 382 m (1,253.28 ft) Central Market Residential Tower, the 324 m (1,062.99 ft) The Landmark (Abu Dhabi) and the 74-storey, 310 m (1,017.06 ft) Sky Tower. Also many other skyscrapers over 150 m (492.13 ft) (500 ft) are either proposed or approved and could transform the city's skyline. As of July 2008, there were 62 high-rise buildings 23 to 150 m (75.46 to 492.13 ft) under construction, approved for construction, or proposed for construction.

The wire services regularly send images to their member papers that feature the phrase "daily life." They send them from such places as India, Thailand, Japan, China, the Philippines, Syria, Nepal, Britain, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. With the exception of just a couple, the images in this post feature daily life in Pakistan by Associated Press photographer Muhammed Muheisen. The images document what we might call in newspaper terminology, "slice of life" photography - ordinary daily scenes that give us a glimpse of something that we might not ordinarily be able to experience. The images, again with a few exceptions, focus on children. They are generally from Islamabad, Pakistan, or from a slum on the outskirts of the city. There wasn't much information or details supplied for captions. In this case, the adage "A picture is worth a thousand words" might just be the most apropos phrase.

2G Spectrum Scam By Raja as Telecom Minister :

The 2G spectrum scam involved officials and ministers in the Government of India illegally undercharging mobile telephony companies for frequency allocation licenses, which they would use to create 2G subscriptions for cell phones. According to a report submitted by the Comptroller and Auditor General based on money collected from 3G licenses, the loss to the exchequer was Rs 176,379 crore (US $ 39.16 billion). The issuing of the 2G licenses occurred in 2008, but the scam came to public notice when the Indian Income Tax Department investigated political lobbyist Niira Radia and the Supreme Court of India took Subramaniam Swamy's complaints on record

Former Telecom Minister of the NDA government Arun Shourie was the whistleblower who helped uncover the scam and also exposed many loopholes in the UPA government's policy towards issuing telecom licences^.

In 2008, the Income Tax department, after orders from the ministry of Home and the PMO, began tapping the phones of Nira Radia. This was done to help with an ongoing investigation into a case where it was alleged that Niira Radia had acted as a spy.

Some of the many conversations recorded over 300 days were leaked to the media. The intense controversy around the leaked tapes became known in the media as the Radia tapes controversy. The tapes featured some conversations between politicians, journalists and corporatation. Politicians like Karunanidhi, journalists like Barkha Dutt and Vir Sanghvi and industrial groups like the Tata Group were either participants or mentioned in these tapes.

Adarsh scam By Ashok Chavan :

In 2010, the Indian media brought to public the violations of rules at various phases of construction in the Adarsh Society. Questions were raised on the manner in which apartments in the building were allocated to bureaucrats, politicians and army personnel who had nothing to do with Kargil War and the way in which clearances were obtained for the construction of the building of the Adarsh Society. The Adarsh society high-rise was constructed in the posh Colaba locality of Mumbai, which is considered a sensitive coastal area by the Indian Defence forces and houses various Indian Defense establishments. The society is also alleged to have violated the Indian environment ministry rules. Many activists like Medha Patkar had been trying to uncover this scam since a long time. The exposure of the infamous nexus between politicians, bureaucrats and builders in this scam is said to be only the tip of the iceberg. It had led to resignation of the then Chief Minister, Ashok Chavan.

Several inquiries have been ordered by the army and the Government to probe into the irregularities. Some of the current occupants of the flats in the Adarsh co-operative society building have offered to vacate their flats at the earliest, denying allegations that they were alloted flats because they influenced or helped, in some manner, the construction of the society by violating the rules. The media also exposed that the lower house of the Indian Parliament was misled by one of the bureaucrats, Pradeep Vyas, involved.

The environment minister Jairam Ramesh formally set the ball rolling for the demolition of the entire 31-story scam-tainted Adarsh building in Coloba's eco-sensitive zone on Friday November 12, 2010. The environment minister is said to have sent a show cause notice to the Adarsh housing society. The environment minister is said to have stated that "all options under the law are open except regularization of the structure". As per the Ministry of Environment and Forests' order dated 16 Jan 2011, 'the unauthorised structure should be removed in its entirety and the area restored to its original condition'.

2010 Commonwealth Games Controversy By suresh kalmadi :

A number of concerns and controversies surfaced before the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, India, which received widespread media coverage both in India (the host nation) and internationally.

The Commonwealth Games was severely criticised by several prominent Indian politicians and social activists because billions of dollars have been spent on the sporting event despite the fact that India has one of the world's largest concentration of poor people. Additionally, several other problems related to the 2010 Commonwealth Games have been highlighted by Indian investigative agencies and media outlets; these include — serious corruption by officials of the Games' Organising Committee, delays in the construction of main Games' venues, infrastructural compromise, possibility of a terrorist attack, and exceptionally poor ticket sales before the event.

The day after the conclusion of the Games, the Indian Government announced the formation of a special committee to probe the allegations of corruption and mismanagement against the Organizing Committee. The probe committee will be led by former Comptroller and Auditor General of India VK Shungloo. This probe will be in addition to the Central Bureau of Investigation, Enforcement Directorate, and Central Vigilance Commission investigations already underway. The Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh, had promised in mid-August, when reports of the bungling first surfaced, that corrupt officials will be given "severe and exemplary" punishment after the Games. The committee has been given three months time to submit its report.

Indian stock market manipulation scam By Ketan Parekh :

Ketan Parekh is a former stock broker from Mumbai, India, who was convicted in 2008, for involvement in the Indian stock market manipulation scam in late 1999-2001. Currently he has been debarred from trading in the Indian stock exchanges till 2017.

On 9th Dec 2010, NDTV India (a news channel of india) claims that Ketan Parekh has relation with Ravi inder (arrested by Delhi police in November 2010). According to the news channel he still has a vital role in indian share market.
A chartered accountant by training, Parekh came from a family of brokers, which helped him create a trading ring of his own. Between 1999 and 2000, as the technology bubble was engulfing the rest of the world, the stock market in India sprang to life too.

Be it investment firms, mostly controlled by promoters of listed companies, overseas corporate bodies or cooperative banks, all were ready to hand the money to Parekh, which he used to rig up stock prices by making his interest apparent. In no time, scrips like Visualsoft rose from Rs 625 to Rs 8,448 per share and Sonata Software from Rs 90 to Rs 2,150. But the vicious cycle of fraud did not end with price rigging. The inflated stocks had to be dumped onto someone in the end, for which Parekh used financial institutions like the UTI. But the party ended rather abruptly a day after the Union Budget was presented in February 2001. A bear cartel started disrupting Parekh's party by hammering prices of the K-10 stocks, precipitating a payment crisis in Kolkata.

As SEBI investigated, it was evident that bank and promoter funds were used to rig the markets. Parekh was arrested in March that year and was in custody for 53 days. In the aftermath of the scam, many gaping loopholes in the market were plugged. The trading cycle was now reduced from one week to one day. Badla was banned and operators could not carry forward trade in its primitive form. Forward trading was formally introduced in the form of exchange-traded derivatives to ensure a well-regulated futures market. Broker control over stock exchanges was demolished. It's perhaps thanks to the Pentafour Bull that India's stock markets are today considered safe. And to his credit, Parekh forced lethargic policy-makers to institute reforms in the financial system. He is, however, now suspected to be operating in the markets through conduits. Parekh will remain a work-in-progress for regulators.

Barak Missile scandal By Samata Party :

The Barak Missile Scandal is a case of defence corruption relating to the purchase of Barak Missile Systems by India from Israel. The case is currently under investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation, and several people including the Samata Party ex-treasurer R.K. Jain have been arrested. Others named in the First Information Report include politicians George Fernandes and Jaya Jaitley, and arms dealer and ex-naval officer Suresh Nanda, who is the son of retired chief of naval staff S.M. Nanda.

The Barak missile system (jointly developed by Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI) and RAFAEL Armament Development Authority of Israel) employs vertically launched missiles to counter anti-ship sea-skimming missiles and attacks by aircraft. On October 23, 2000, contracts had been signed by the Indian government to procure seven Barak systems at a total cost $199.50 million and 200 missiles at a cost of $69.13 million. This was done despite objections raised by several groups, including members of the team that had originally visited Israel to observe the missile performance, and APJ Abdul Kalam, then heading the Defence Research Development Organization. Though some of the objections are of a procedural nature, the Navy Chief of Staff Sushil Kumar is currently under investigation as to why these objections were not considered.

Stamp Paper Scandal By Abdul Kareem Telgi :

Abdul Kareem Telgi began printing fake stamp paper. He appointed 300 people as agents who sold the fakes to bulk purchasers, including banks, FIs, insurance companies, and share-broking firms. His monthly profits have been estimated as being in the neighbourhood of Rs 202 crore (slightly more than US $40 million).

The size of the scam was estimated to be more than Rs 43,000 crore (US$ 9.55 billion).

The Telgi case brought corruption in the Karnataka police force to light, causing a national scandal in India. A videotape emerged in September 2006 of Abdul Karim Telgi taking a Narco Analysis test. Under the influence of the supposed truth serum, Telgi is said to have blurted out the names of Nationalist Congress Party leaders Sharad Pawar and Chaggan Bhujbal. Pawar has never been publicly linked to the case, but was forced to go public with a denial.

On 17 January 2006, Telgi and several associates were sentenced to ten years' rigorous imprisonment.

On June 28, 2007 Telgi was sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for 13 years and fined a whopping Rs 202 crore on various counts in one of the main cases of the scandal. Hours after Telgi pleaded guilty and repented his actions, Judge Chitra Bedi of a special court pronounced the quantum of punishment under various sections of the IPC and the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crimes Act. This is the harshest punishment given to Telgi in any of the fake stamp paper cases he has been convicted for so far in Maharashtra and Karnataka. Honorable Judge Chitra Bedi observed that she had taken a "lenient view" since Telgi, who is in judicial custody in Pune, had pleaded guilty and also because of his health. Telgi is HIV positive.

Honorable Judge Chitra Bedi sentenced 42 other accused in the case, who too had pleaded guilty, to rigorous impriosnment for up to six years and imposed fines on them. CBI counsel Raja Thakare moved an application in the court seeking the confiscation of Telgi's property to recover the fine slapped on him. Telgi, who broke down earlier in the day while pleading guilty, thanked the judge for "giving him justice."

Money laundering and mining scam By Madhu Koda :

On 10th Oct 2009, he was charged with laundering money worth over Rs. 4000 crores. In nationwide raids by the Enforcement Directorate, assets allegedly worth Rs. 4000 crore — almost a fifth of the annual budget of the state he once ruled — were unearthed. Among others, these assets were reported to include hotels and three companies in Mumbai, property in Kolkata, a hotel in Thailand, and a coal mine in Liberia. This alleged scam is said to be the second-largest scam uncovered in India in 2009 and gets his name included in the list of controversial Indian businessman like Hasan Ali Khan and Harshad Mehta. Minister of State for Home Ajay Maken said that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) may be asked to probe this scam, in addition to Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Income Tax Department. ED is behind his two close associates Mr.Binod Sinha and Mr.Sanjay Chowdhary. Binod is behind bars and Sanjay has escaped to Dubai.

In the probes, it was found that Maoists received a 30% share of the "Koda plunder". This has led to staunch criticism of Koda from sections of society, including the oppostition Bharatiya Janata Party. Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi stated Koda was part of a corrupt network of Congress Party who stole money from Jharkhand.

2011 Final: India defeated Sri Lanka By 6 wickets (Scorecard) :

What a match to end. It was another thriller which favored India to repeat the history of 1983. Great performances from both team continued in the final as well.

Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first in the big final in Mumbai Wankhade Stadium. Two legends, Muttiah Muralitharan and Sachin Tendulkar playing the big match in their careers. Especially for Sachin who did not have a world cup win under his belt though he achieved everything in cricket.

Sri Lanka started the innings with two tops batsman who are listed in the top 5 batsmen list. Tharanga and Dilshan played too carefully and unable play big shots. Tharanga was dismissed for two runs by Zaheer Khan in the 6th over of innings. Dilshan and Sangakkara started building the innings. Dilshan who is in great from was bowled by Harbhajan for 33 from 49 balls.

Jayawardene joining Sangakkara managed well. Both added 62 runs for the third wicket. Sangakkara who was near to the half century was sent back by Yuvraj. Sangakkara scored 48 from 67 balls with 5 fours. Jayawardene was out standing in the Sri Lankan innings. Jayawardene completed his second century in this world cup.

Samaraweera 21 runs and Kulasekara 32 runs supported well but unable to make big scores. Jayawardene scored unbeaten 103 from 88 balls. In the end Perera blasted with 22 runs from just 9 balls which helped Sri Lanka to 274 in 50 overs with the loss of 6 wickets.

In reply, India got off a worst start, as they lost Dashing opener Sehwag for a duck. Malinga bowled superbly and removed Sehwag with a LBW. Sachin who seems to be strong was also dismissed by Malinga. Sachin scored 18 from 14 balls. All Indian fans were silent as they two big heroes returned back leaving India in deep troubles.

Young guns Gambhir and Kohli started re building the innings. Both played exceptionally well handling the mountain pressure superbly. Both started picking singles and two and sent the bad balls to boundaries. Gambhir who got a life at 30 did not repeated mistake and made a superb contribution.

Kohli was c & b by Dilshan for 35 from 49 balls. Dilshan took absolutely wonderful catch to send Kohli. Surprising everyone came up in the order and took the responsibility. Gambhir and Dhoni managed well and never gave a chance to the Sri Lankan bowlers including Muralitharan. Gambhir completed his half century and ran away for his century.

Dhoni who was not in great form in this world cup had great day. He scored everywhere in the ground. Gambhir who was just short of century went for a bad shot and bowled by Perera. Yuvraj and Dhoni took the game in their hands and continued till the end. Yuvraj added 21 from 24 balls with two fours. Dhoni had a really blasting innings of 91 from 79 balls with 2 massive sixes and 8 fours.

2007 Final: Australia defeated Sri Lanka by 53 runs (Scorecard) :

Australia clinched an unprecedented third consecutive World Cup title after a rain-reduced final that ended in farcical circumstances in Bridgetown, Barbados.

Adam Gilchrist smashed 149 - posting the fastest century and highest score in a World Cup final - as Australia scored 281/4 from 38 overs against Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka was 206/7 with three overs to go when its two batsmen left the field amid dark and overcast conditions, prompting celebrations among the Australians and the crowd, who thought the game was over.

After some confusion on the field, the batsmen came back and the game resumed in near darkness.

Lasith Malinga was subsequently run out and the final few balls were played out in surreal circumstances as Sri Lanka had no hope of victory.

"It's a bit dark, but I'm loving every minute of it," said veteran Australian paceman Glenn McGrath, who along with Gilchrist collected his third consecutive World Cup winners' medal. Gilchrist and McGrath then retired from international cricket, leaving gaps in the Australian lineup that are still yet to be fully filled.

Brian Lara also retired from international cricket after being unable to guide the hosts and two-time champion West Indies to the title in the first World Cup ever staged in the Caribbean.

The tournament was overshadowed by the death of Pakistan's England-born coach Bob Woolmer. Woolmer was found unconscious in his hotel room the day after Pakistan's shocking loss to Ireland in the group stage, sparking a homicide investigation in Jamaica.

Jamaican authorities initially said Woolmer had been strangled. In an embarrassing reversal, police later said experts had concluded he died of natural causes, most likely heart disease.

The group-stage exits of Pakistan and India also detracted from the tournament, while some individual performances left marks that will take a long time to beat.

Herschelle Gibbs became the first batsman to hit six sixes in one over in an international match when he belted consecutive sixes off Dutch legspinner Daan van Bunge in the 30th over of a group match at St. Kitts. A tournament sponsor had only the previous week offered $1 million for charity designated by the first batsman to do something that only the great West Indies allrounder Garfield Sobers (1968) and India's Ravi Shastri (1985) had ever done in first-class cricket.

South Africa was on the receiving end of a record when Sri Lanka's Malinga took four wickets with four consecutive balls - also a first in international cricket.

When Malinga ran in for the fifth ball of the 45th over of the match at Guyana, South Africa needed four runs to win and had five wickets in hand.

The paceman took four wickets with consecutive deliveries to turn what should have been a comfortable victory into a tense, last-over one-wicket win.

2003 Final: Australia defeated India by 125 run (Scorecard) :

After cruising through the tournament unbeaten, Australia became only the second team to retain the World Cup when it beat India in a lopsided final at Johannesburg.

Adam Gilchrist and Matthew Hayden shared an opening partnership of 105 from 14 overs after being put into bat. Captain Ricky Ponting then smashed 140 from 121 balls in a man-of-the-match performance to steer Australia to a mammoth 359/2 from 50 overs - a record for a World Cup final.

Glenn McGrath caught and bowled batting legend Sachin Tendulkar in the first over of India's reply. The rain offered India hope of respite, but conditions improved and McGrath finished with 3/52 as India was dismissed for 234 with more than 10 overs still left.

"When World Cups come around, you've got to play your best when it counts, and we've done that," Ponting said.

The success was also notable for the absence of star spinner Shane Warne, who was sent home the day before Australia's opening match after testing positive for a banned diuretic.

The first World Cup in Africa was co-hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Kenya. Kenya provided the surprise of the tournament by beating test nation Sri Lanka on the way to an appearance in the semifinals.

But the success of Kenya and Zimbabwe in an interminable tournament that required 42 games to narrow the field from 14 teams to six owed much to the refusal of England and New Zealand to play in those countries because of security concerns.

The African nations won the fixtures by walkovers. Zimbabwe also reached the second-round Super Six stage.

1999 Final: Australia defeated Pakistan by 8 wickets (Scorecard) :

Shane Warne was the star with four wickets in the final as Australia bowled out Pakistan for 132 at Lord's and eased to 133-2 from 20 overs thanks to Adam Gilchrist's 54 from 36 balls.

Australia's first World Cup since 1987 confirmed its status as cricket's premier limited-overs lineup but it was its two matches against South Africa that went down in cricketing folklore.

Australia won the teams' first meeting in the inaugural Super Sixes stage by five wickets, with Steve Waugh scoring a match-winning 120. The Australia captain was dropped by a prematurely celebrating Herschelle Gibbs when he was on 56 and was said to have told the South African, "You've just dropped the World Cup."

Waugh denied saying it, but the comment rang true after the teams met in the semifinal.

With victory in sight, South Africa's Allan Donald was run out with two balls left following a shocking miscommunication with allrounder Lance Klusener. The match ended in a tie, with both teams on 213 all out, allowing Australia to advance by virtue of its win in the earlier head-to-head match.

After two losses in its first three matches, Australia simply hit form at the right time and rode its luck.

Host England and the fading West Indies were knocked out in the first round of the 12-team tournament, with Pakistan, New Zealand, India and Zimbabwe joining Australia and South Africa in the Super Sixes.

1996 Final: Sri Lanka defeated Australia by 7 wickets (Scorecard) :

Aravinda da Silva's all-round brilliance inspired Sri Lanka to its first World Cup title.

Da Silva claimed three wickets, including those of danger men Mark Taylor and Ricky Ponting, and two catches as Australia struggled to 241/7 in the final at Lahore.

The allrounder then sealed his third man-of-the-match award of the tournament with a stylish 107 not out as his side reached its victory target with ease.

Sri Lanka's surprising and emotional win in a tournament it co-hosted with India and Pakistan ensured the event at least ended on a high note.

The sixth Cricket World Cup exasperated fans with its seemingly interminable group stage, which lasted three weeks and took in 29 matches before only eliminating Zimbabwe, Kenya, the United Arab Emirates and the Netherlands.

Australia and West Indies forfeited their group games in Colombo following a terrorist bombing in the city three weeks earlier, and still reached the quarterfinals.

Perhaps the most memorable moment of the group stage was provided by Kenya's rotund wicketkeeper Tariq Iqbal, who put a series of errors behind him with a catch to dismiss Brian Lara in his side's shock 73-run win over West Indies.

But the tournament reached another low in the semifinal at Calcutta when India's fans, outraged by their team's slide to 120/8 in reply to Sri Lanka's 251/8, began throwing bottles onto the pitch and lighting fires in the stands.

The game was abandoned, leaving batsman Vinod Kambli in tears and Sri Lanka, with a then revolutionary gameplan that had batsmen attacking from the first over, to take the glory in the final.

1992 Final: Pakistan defeated England by 22 runs (Scorecard) :

Pakistan lifted the World Cup for the first time with a 22-run win over England in front of a crowd of 87,182 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Imran Khan (72) and Javed Miandad (58) helped Pakistan set a target of 250, and Wasim Akram took crucial wickets in the reply as England fell short, sparking jubilant scenes on the streets of Pakistan.

"It was one of the biggest days in Pakistan cricket history," Khan said later.

Co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand, the 1992 World Cup was the first to feature colored clothing, a white ball and matches played under floodlights.

Defending champion Australia missed out on the semifinal, partly because of a shock loss to the tournament's surprise package New Zealand, which was eventually beaten by Pakistan in the last four.

South Africa's return to international competition after 21 years of isolation was a success as Kepler Wessels' side opened with a dominant win over Australia on its way to the semifinals.

But its campaign ended in bizarre fashion when, needing 22 from 13 balls to beat England, a heavy rain shower fell in Sydney. The rules used at the time to recalculate targets in rain-affected matches left South Africa needing 21 from one ball. The ensuing controversy eventually led to the introduction of the Duckworth/Lewis Method of revising targets.

1987 Final: Australia defeated England by 7 runs (Scorecard) :

Australia's enthralling seven-run win over England put the seal on a memorable World Cup.

Captain Allan Border was carried on the shoulders of his teammates at Calcutta's Eden Gardens after leading the team to its first World Cup title, Australia's total of 253 proving just out of reach for Mike Gatting's England lineup.

"At the end of the game we did a lap of honor and I'll never forget that," batsman Dean Jones recalled. "Fireworks were going off in the stands and it was like a scene out of a movie."

The first World Cup to be played outside England was also the first to be reduced from 60 to 50 overs for each innings.

Chetan Sharma recorded the first hat-trick in a World Cup in India's nine-wicket win over New Zealand in a group stage round which delivered several thrilling encounters.

Pakistan's 15-run win over Sri Lanka set the tone; Australia beat India by one run; England scored 35 runs in the last three overs to beat West Indies; New Zealand avoided an almighty upset by edging rookie Zimbabwe by three runs.

England, with a win over India, and Australia, which beat Pakistan, put paid to the co-hosts' hopes in the semifinals before Border's side, propelled by David Boon's 75, prevailed in a hotly contested final to start a golden era for Australian cricket.

1983 Final: India defeated West Indies by 43 runs (Scorecard) :

India caused a major upset in world cricket by lifting the trophy at Lord's against a West Indies side that had won the two previous editions and featured Viv Richards, Clive Lloyd and Desmond Haynes.

Having successfully negotiated the group stage, in which teams played each other twice, India made short work of England in the semifinals with a six-wicket victory at Old Trafford.

The West Indies were even more impressive, though, in limiting Pakistan to 184 before cruising past the victory target for the loss of just two wickets at The Oval.

Richards scored 80 runs from a 96-ball knock, while Malcolm Marshall led the bowling with 3-28.

The performances seemed to leave little room for doubt about the final, and even less after India could only reach 183 runs after losing the toss.

However, things started to go wrong for the all-conquering West Indies after Haynes' dismissal left his team on 50/2. Two catches by Kapil Dev, one featuring a memorable 20-meter dash, removed Richards and Lloyd, as Mohinder Amarnath (3-12) and Madan Lal (3-31) ripped through the West Indies batting order.

The Windies were all out for 140 with eight overs to spare in what was a stunning result, and a defining moment, for Indian cricket.

1979 Final: West Indies defeated England by 92 runs (Scorecard) :

The West Indies were favorites and worthy winners, helped in the final by the brilliance of Viv Richards and Collis King at the crease, and a batting collapse by the hosts that was spectacular even by England standards.

In a promising start, bowlers Mike Hendrick and Chris Old appeared to have the reigning champions in some trouble at 99/4. But a swashbuckling 86 off 66 balls from King and an inspired knock by Richards, who went on to finish unbeaten on 138, added a punitive 139 runs for the next wicket.

Set a victory target of 287, Mike Brearley and Geoff Boycott put runs on the board - but did so far too slowly.

England needed a full 38 overs to reach 129 for the first wicket and even Graham Gooch's best efforts failed to make a decisive impact.

From 183/2, England's batsmen added a paltry 11 runs for the next eight wickets as the West Indies retained their title.

There was no room in the semifinals for a below-strength team from Australia, whose best players were all absent due to their contracts with Kerry Packer's World Series Cricket.

The new ICC Trophy for non-Test playing nations, created to give World Cup berths to the tournament's two finalists, provided places at the main event for Sri Lanka and Canada.

1975 Final: West Indies defeat Australia by 17 runs (Scorecard) :

Hosted by England, the inaugural two-week tournament was seen at the time as a major innovation for the sport. Eight teams were divided into two round-robin groups of four, with the top two advancing to the semifinals before a showcase final at Lord's.

Sides such as the West Indies and Australia flourished in the 60-over format, while other test nations struggled to grasp the need for quick runs.

India's Sunil Gavaskar memorably plodded through all 60 overs against England, scoring just 36 runs in a heavy group stage defeat.

Australia beat host England in the semifinals after a superb display by Gary Gilmour, whose bowling figures of 6/14 remain a World Cup record and whose 28 runs in as many balls helped seal a four-wicket victory.

The West Indies went one better, beating New Zealand by five wickets in the other semifinal, to line up a decider in which Clive Lloyd and Viv Richards dominated the pace attack of Dennis Lillee and Jeff Thomson.

Lloyd's 102 in an innings total of 291 had Australia under pressure right from the start, while Richards' three run outs - among a remarkable total of five - decided an entertaining contest.

A series of pitch invasions by an impatient crowd marred the closing stages, with umpire Dickie Bird losing his hat in the final jubilant surge.
