My new diptych that I'm showing at the Arts Institute Group Fall Show next week. It's two panels, 24"x18" each. And it's pencil on paper. The two images are really the same color, but the scan made it look like the left one is darker....

I've been away a lot.

here's a quick summary:

♡   crimsonsilk.com looks different. Can't promise this will be the last in a long line of looks but certainly that's the intention.

♡   redbubble.com has a full and somewhat final portfolio of photographs from what I whimsically call 'the Lumix Years'. It also has a complete portfolio of my public writings.

♡   all content at flickr.com has been removed.

♡   crimsonsilk art is active once more.

♡   in the coming months I'm intending to list a few pieces on etsy; but at the moment I haven't selected which ones.

♡   I've deleted everything over at imagekind; it wasn't working out for me. That said if you ever do need an high art quality print of my work, let me know and I'll arrange it.

♡   I may start randomly tweeting again. Although that said, twitter and I have had a long-standing love/hate relationship.

These are my plans for projects over the next six months. I've turned 4 photos into crochet patterns. I'm currently working on the last two. Then I will start on the first two if those come out as planned. It's been an interesting project. The 4th pic I am doing with size 3 thread and the 3rd pic I'm doing with regular yarn. Once I see the detail I will choose what I do for the first two. (I'm currently watching Rocky Horror Picture show so I'm bit distracted. I'm sure you can understand :-D ) So that's my post.-yenney

And if you're ever in Athens, Georgia check them out! The poetry group is called Word of Mouth, and they host an open mic with a featured reader at the Globe (very cool bar) in Athens the first Wednesday of every month. There's more info on their site. The poetry is incredibly good and the atmosphere makes for a really great night.

They post written poems too. Another one of mine called For My Father is a few poems down the written section, with a nice picture they took of me while I read.... There's actually a YouTube video that was taken at the Grey Court Poets meeting here in Methuen of me reading that poem as well. Ceramics

Late last year, I started a new venture into ceramics. Partly born of a spontaneous admission onto an iznik-themed ceramic tile course and partly due to a collection of naked pottery vases which have been loitering around on pine shelves and stuffed in wicker drawers for quite the long while. Due to a set of unfortunate circumstances, the course overran by a good few weeks and yes, months. Yikes!

Am happy to report it is now completed and the tiles painting, glazed and fired. I loved the look of the tiles when painted... not so much loved the look once fired. The real colour differences in paint colours, texture etc plus the extra-painstakingly fine detailing of the iznik patterns lost me, which becomes apparent in the result. So I've a way to go on the ceramic tiles... though as another course member pointed out, whilst admiring my tiles, my pattern was really quite complex for a first timer and they still look pretty - even if it wasn't the result I was looking for.

The naked pottery vases have all been painted and are currently back on the shelves awaiting a final cost of embellishment/patterning before being varnished and shipped to their new owners.

Apart from the initial paintings at the beginning of the year, and though teeming with ideas and itching to paint, nothing has so far translated to paper.

I've been giving a lot of thought to my style of painting and where (if anywhere) I'm heading artistically. I've been battling an intense dissatisfaction with the direction and style of paintings over the last year, even though I always knew they were experimental I didn't quite get the deep-down contentment I was hoping to achieve.

Reflection leads me to believe it's time to regress to my painting roots - while still retaining an element of experimental freshness. It'll be interesting to see what comes out of the mix!

okay these are out of order but I had an unpleasant experience of late that I would like to share. I was recently drugged at a latin dance bar. I don't know if it was rohypnol but it had all the same symptoms. This is what I painted afterward. It was the most dissociative experience I've ever had.

Found a little inspiration

My latest project and free offer. I decided to do a set of 10 B-day cards. All together they make one painting (below) and then separated they make 10 little ones for framing. So here's my offer.

The first 10 people to send me their b-days and their addresses, get a free card. Even if you just had your b-day. You will either get a late b-day card or have to wait till your next one. (I'll keep you guessing. ) Sorry you don't get to choose which one.
