CRIME ALERT - Attention Residents! Nov. 10, 2009

If you need this material in an alternative format, please contact the Minneapolis Police Department at 612-673-2912.

Robbery of Persons November 10, 2009

Lind Bohanon, Webber Camden and Hawthorne

Facts:
On November 9th 2009 there were 4 Robbery of persons in the 4th Precinct. They occurred at:
 42XX Emerson Ave N Victim was in the garage 11/09/2009 4:52 p.m.
 35XX Bryant Ave N Victim was in the backyard 11/09/2009 4:30 p.m.
 41XX Lyndale Ave N Victim was in the car 11/09/2009 7:37 p.m.
 29XX 4th St N Victim was standing on the corner 11/09/2009 6:18 p.m.

Suspect information:
The suspect information is very limited at this time. Suspects are at least 5 black males between the ages of 15
and 25 years of age. Wearing black hooded sweatshirts all were on foot. In all of the robberies a handgun was
seen and in one of the incidents the handgun was used.

What you can do:
Avoid becoming a target:
 Avoid carrying large amounts of cash or other valuables. When you open your purse or wallet be careful not to
reveal your cash or credit cards.
 At night, try to stay on well-lighted streets. Avoid doorways, shrubbery, dark shadows near buildings, and other
potential hiding places.
 While out walking or jogging, be aware of your surroundings. Look alert and confident. Make quick eye contact with people around you.
 Avoid going out alone. If possible, walk with a friend or co-worker. Two people together are much less likely to
be targeted by an attacker than one person alone.
 A woman should carry her handbag next to her body with the flap or clasp toward her. A man should carry his wallet in an inside or front pocket.
 If you are being followed on foot, turn around and look at the person the person following you. This gives you
time to think and lets the person know that you are aware of him. Walk to the nearest public place where there are other people.

If you are confronted:
 If a robber demands your valuables, give them up! Neither your money nor your jewelry are worth risking injury or your life.
 If you are confronted by an attacker, stay calm. Evaluate the situation and consider your options. Look at the
robber one feature at a time and make a mental note of his hair, eyes, eyebrows, nose, facial hair, mouth, voice, breath, age, height and build.
 As soon as you can, call 911 and write down everything you can remember about the robber. This will aid in
giving us an accurate description of the suspect.
