Carol Ann Jones is a singer, songwriter and recording artist from Georgia, Vermont. She’s also a dairy farmer and an accountant, but that’s another story. She’s been singing all her life, but in 2006, her BRILLIANT husband said, “Ya know, you should buy a guitar and stick it in the dining room. You’ll figure it out in no time.” Being the good wife that she is, she bought a beautiful acoustic guitar, kept it out of the case and started on this journey. She’ll be joined by Gary Spaulding on percussion.

Robert Wuagneux, Friday, May 25, 9:00 pm – 12:00 am

Robert Wuagneux is a singer and songwriter who has had countless performances throughout his career, in both Europe and the United States. His high energy, songwriting, musicianship and enthusiasm have earned him the respect of his peers and endless praise from his public. It’s been said that his shows are “pure creative artistry” and “interactive musical journeys.”

Prana, Saturday, May 26, 9:00 pm – 12:00 am

Transcending genres, Prana takes you on a driving cerebral journey, fueled by their intense interpretation of “rock n’ soul” to their manic funk-driven jams, bringing to you stories of life, the real American dream, and how to, as Paul Poltz has belted, “Love Every Moment!”

Children of the Corn, Thursday, May 31, 8:00 – 10:00 pm

Michael Corn, the well-known local guitarist and teacher, presents a group of his students in a showcase of the area’s finest up-and-coming young talent. Opening the program will be student performers ranging from ages 12 to 17 years old. We’ll also feature two bands, the MUHS Blues Cats and the One Eyed Jacks, plus a few surprise guests.

Green Drinks, Friday, June 1, 5:30 – 7:30 pm

GreenDrinks.org is a global movement aimed at connecting people informally in cities throughout the world for the purpose of brainstorming and networking on green topics in a relaxed, unstructured setting. Middlebury’s version of Green Drinks gathers the first Friday of the month, 5:30-7:30 pm. The focus is on relaxing, getting to know each other and imagining what can come next. Come and go as your schedule allows.

Joshua Glass, Friday, June 1, 9:00 pm – 12:00 am

Joshua Glass is a singer/songwriter from Burlington, Vermont, who has been steadily gaining praise for his unique musical stylings, impassioned live performances, and countless collaborations with other musicians. As a solo artist/performer, Glass is frequently commended for his soulful vocals, intricate compositions, and offbeat lyrics. But it’s Joshua’s skills as a keyboardist that have earned him the most attention. Utilizing a distinctive rhythmic, orchestral approach to the piano, which SEVEN DAYS’ Henry Soule describes as “coming close to the aural equivalent of imbibing whiskey”, Glass’ style manifests itself in everything from tender, melodic balladry to manic, “blink and you’ll miss it” improvisation.

Great Brook Blues Band, Saturday, June 2, 9:00 pm – 12:00 am

The Great Brook Blues Band is based out of Chicago in spirit and Central Vermont in reality. Despite what their name might imply, they play many styles in addition to blues. Jazz, funk, and rock make their way into any Great Brook Blues set – always with a danceable undercurrent. Consider them the side dishes that complement their meat and potatoes: the blues.

10% of our dinner proceeds tonight will benefit the Charter House. We’ll have live music throughout the evening by Yuki Takeda, Peter Moore, Julianne Seo, Dustin Lowman, Elise Moody-Roberts, Ethan Mann, and Heather Stefek.

Charlie Hilbert, Thursday, May 3, 8:00 – 10:00 pm

New York City blues legend Charlie Hilbert has played the blues for forty years – from his time in the streets of NYC with harmonica master Nat Riddles to his recent performances with Adam Gussow, headlining Mundharmonikalive in Klingenthal, Germany, and teaching and playing at Hill Country Harmonica in Oxford, Miss. If you like traditional blues, harmonica, and slide guitar, with maybe a country or rock tune thrown in, come on down; you won’t be disappointed.

Folk By Association, Friday, May 4, 9:00 pm – 12:00 am

After ten years of performing as Folk By Association, Karen Krajacic and Jill Cowen have certainly traveled a long and interesting road together. They’ve now played hundreds of shows in 26 states, gaining a reputation for both their top-notch vocal harmonies and their grassroots approach to working as independent artists. With intricate harmonies at the forefront, Folk By Association embraces elements of folk, roots, bluegrass, jazz, and world music, weaving these eclectic traditions together in a unique, contemporary way.

Philip Hoff: How Red Turned Blue in the Green Mountain State: Book Talk by Steve Terry, Tuesday, April 10, 5:15 pm

During Philip Hoff’s six years as governor of the Green Mountain State (1963–1969), the politics, demographics, economics and government structure of Vermont changed in major and long-lasting ways, and a new liberal tradition took hold. He was an activist governor, pushing new ideas, concepts and programs and challenging the idea that Vermont governors should be caretakers in the way that his predecessors had been. Hoff very much believed that government was and should be the primary force in bringing about social change, saying that “Every significant decision of our time is going to be made in the governmental arena.” He was quick to support efforts to modernize government operations that he considered obsolete and inefficient. But his influence on the state was profound and long lasting. At the time he left office in January 1969, the Rutland Herald predicted that, “it will be impossible to turn back the clock to the political era of caretaker governors.” Hoff himself left office believing that his six years as an activist governor finally “got Vermont off the dime.” Bill Kearns put it more bluntly, saying that Hoff “picked up the state by the back of the neck and gave it a damned good, much needed shaking.”

Relay for Life allows the American Cancer Society to help more cancer patients and fight back against cancer. The silent auction will feature art by students and the local community, as well as a performance by the a cappella group Stuck in the Middle. Although the event is free, there is a $5 suggested donation at the door.
