In late 2009, things were looking pretty awesome in my life, and then a few things happened to me. I got shipped off to Afghanistan, not once, but twice (so far) for a project there. Let's just say that was a catalyst for some changes in my life. My health is good, I ran almost every day while in Kandahar and tried to enjoy Dubai as much as I could during my 9 hour layovers there (It's not as exciting the 4th or 5th time though there!!)

The plan is to go racing in 2010 at the regionals and Mosport. In the time being I have found some lost photographs of 2009 Mosport weekend, possibly one of my most successful weekends to date, where I actually finished both races, and worked out from underneath Louie Raffa and Mike Rush's trailer (as I was leaving for Denmark the day after).

It was a wet one! I wasn't exactly a wet wild wonder but I sure enjoyed the experience as this year I did not ride in the wet at all.

So.. The season is officially over. The bike gets torn down and freshened up over the winter, and my body gets to recover from all the punishment I put it through... and it's not from racing motorcycles! It's from playing ultimate and my new passion: duathlons! I will be in Cumberland next week (sat) for the Fall Colours Duathlon at the Cumberland Heritage Village Museum where I will be doing the full Du there.

Brrr! I hope it doesnt rain!!!!

Summer Break!

I hate to say it.. I hate Summer break....wait for it..

Summer break from racing that is!!!!!!!!!!!

Last year with this 'time off' I would have been doing trackdays. But I sold my ol GPZ750 and now I don't have a track day ride anymore. And I actually miss the ol girl.

To be honest I quite detest riding my ZX6R at trackdays. I really like to go FAST when I ride this bike; I like to be on the edge of crashing (I have been known to crash hard at trackdays before:). So when I go into the fast groups and come up on considerably slower riders (than I), I get bummed out because sometimes that's dangerous and did I mention I hate riding the ZX6R at a leisurely pace? At least on the ol 'sled' I could out ride it, and your Nana on a 600 could still pass me on a straightaway, and that's fun. K'Nuff said.

By the way I am now officially OVER the whole Trombino Yellow Flag thing. But can I still hold a grudge? =)

So what has the EEL been up to?

- Plan to run Carleton Place 10k race next weekend.
- Keeping fit (running, training, playing ultimate)
- Patios (yes you heard me)
- Service and maintenance on the ZX6R in preparation for the next event...

Mosport! It's going to be exciting and poop-yer-pants scary once again I'm sure! Something draws me to this place. I hate it, I love it. I love to hate it. I am faster there on my 600 than I was ever on my 1000s. It rains on one half of the track, dry on the other, it's such an enigma! A hopeless paradigm to say the least.

I am anxious to see how competitive my 600 is going to be against the other 600s this year but especially against the twins (the Buells and BMWs). Last year in Thunder they had a good pace.

Look for an exciting 53-Racing announcement in the next week or two!!!!!!

I watched the Calabogie Round over again on the 2008 PCSB DVD. I must have got a defective DVD since I only saw 5 minutes of footage from a 25 minute race?? I have to say though; Peris' 600 crash was spectacular.

Well atleast I made it into the top 10 and my name was spelled and pronounced correctly! =)

What a crazy weekend! A lot of hype about this track, good and bad.

I arrived at Mirabel alone and revised my suspension for what seemed to be a somewhat bumpy track. Since I had no crew, I had to settle with some softer suspension settings that gave me good feeling from the front end and did not tear up tires too much on the rear and focus on just learning the track and riding around any suspension issues that came up (and there were many :))

The track is made up of hundreds of 10'x10' concrete slabs that do not all sit level with each other. They are also placed on slopes in some areas to facilitate drainage on the original Mirabel taxiway and apron.

So let me tell you that it is interesting when you are riding through a corner, hitting all these slab seams and then the track drops away for no reason and you still have traction while the bike is bucking and heaving! Because this track definately has no traction issues - except the paint that marks the track layout!

I think I finally settled into a lap time of 1:31 around this place. I qualified well for SportBike but even better in SuperBike where I had more time to go out and do flyers. In SportBike qualifying quite a few 'tar snakes' were laying across the track in some pretty key corners, and I admit that did distract me.

This track was destroying tires and I did not have the money to get on a set of SC1's or even an additional SC2 rear (my tire of choice for longevity) for the SuperBike race. So my plan was to only compete in SportBike; but on pre-grid I had quite a big issue and had to take a chance on tire setup that inevitably ruined my weekend. To top it off when I was lapped by the leaders (let me mention I haven't been lapped in a '600' race since I can remember!) I let by two bikes for my position! By this time I was getting really bad front push over the seams in some very fast corners, and after watching the carnage in the opening laps of the race I decided just to bring the bike home in one piece.

Many thanks to Michel Flageole and his boys for the awesome pictures. The promoters did a decent job. Most rider concerns were adressed by PCSB but there is still a lingering safety issue there. The Quebec fans are great and love some good racing and this track has good viewing from many different places.

That one took a while to post. After my double race on sunday I played my first organized Ultimate game on Monday with the OSSC. Let's just say this week has been a week of recovery!

I'm on a trip for business immediately following my week long stint in Alabama and Florida (which was AWESOME). So I barely had time to issue this PR (see my website or canadian media outlets). I also have so many images (including pics of the aligators!!!! aaa!!!) I should upload too but it's just so busy the next week I will do my best from my hotel in Oregon!

To summarize.. Brett and I rocked it hard in 'Bama and then Florida. I hit a big wall (figuratively speaking) with the Kawi and the very fast track at Jennings. Then came Shannonville. Fabi track (my favourite). It was a bit of a downer, you know, riding on bottomed out bouncing forks but I made it work somehow for some pretty incredible lap times all things considered!!!! It's just a shame we won't do Fabi again until next year. In the meantime I am working on a solution and hopefully will have the whole chassis sorted out by Calabogie, if not the first regional.

Also!!!!! Check out Les Soeurs en Vrac !!!! They sell pre-packaged bulk goods that are so yummy! I scored some delish seasoning salt from a very modest Nathalie Catherine at Shannonville and realized this is really cool and hardly anyone knows about it. Get out to your local high end food stores and check out these products or give them a call! Support those who support the sport :) Cheers NatCat!!!

Team Canada vs U.S.A PART II

YES. The sequel!

My ol pal and buddy Brett and I are heading down to Barber Motorsports Park to see if there is still snow in Alabama. If not, we are going to tear up the track in preparation for the upcoming 2009 season. We then head over into Florida for 2 Parts Canada Superbike test days at Jennings GP. It will be my chance to spy on the factory team while Brett distracts them with his boyish good looks! Ha!

But seriously, time for some fun in the sun before the first regional race at Shannonville and the first national at Calabogie. The 2009 ZX6R has a few kinks to work out, and I am well on the way to posting some really fast lap times with this awesome weapon!

A big shout out to Fouad who helps keep my tow and city vehicles running and on the road. I know he is swamped with work as it is but stop by sometime at Carling Auto Tech on Bank Street past Leitrim and say hi!

Also many thanks to the Ottawa Goodtime Centre and Kawasaki Canada helping me get ready on time!

Hi everyone! I'm writing this from a business trip in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It's nice to be here, its super warm (and actually raining!). It's a welcome change to the weather in North America. And I am really close to 2 amazing tracks: Losail International Circuit in Qatar and Dubai Autodrome in the U.A.E. I will have to find a way over there on one of these trips!

The Ottawa crew headed down to Barber in Birmingham, Alabama for a weekend at the beginning of March, and what we got when we arrived was 3 inches of snow and tornadoes! No thank you!

Hopefully I can get some more track time somewhere south before the season starts back home. The development of the 2009 machine is almost complete and it is ready for a shakedown. Many thanks to the Ottawa Goodtime Centre, Lang and Lee at Hindle, Kanata Collision, Attack Performance, and Vortex for their support and great parts moving into 2009.
