Yes, $5 Music (@5dollarmusic) is now on Twitter. In fact, Twitter is a much better home for $5 Music because most of our posts are short and to-the-point just like Twitter. The deals we feature on the site are only valid for a few days so that fits much better with the type of content that is on Twitter. The iPod revolutionized the personal music experience, but the Squeezebox Duet will revolutionize how you listen to music in your home!!!

I am really blown away by this product. Last spring I took some time to wire my den and back porch with in-ceiling speakers. I had an old Onkyo A/V receiver that I installed in a closet to power the 2 rooms. My grand plan was to get this all setup for the Logitech Squeezebox Duet. I looked at the Sonos Music system but it was way out of my budget. The Logitech Squeezebox Duet was more than worth the money.

The install was a snap. It really only took a few minutes to setup. I did a little homework before I got the device and went ahead and installed the SqueezeCenter software on my computer first. So when I plugged in the hardware everything worked right away. No issues.

The interface is so slick and intuitive. Simple, efficient, and familiar to anyone that has used an iPod or any other portable MP3 player. I was amazed at how responsive the system is to the controls on the WiFi remote. Going from track to track, or album to album was instant, no lag. Really, I have used other music streaming systems before and some of them had a distinct lag in the controls. I am very happy to report that Slim Devices and Logitech got this right with the Squeezebox Duet. This is one of the few products that exceeded my expectations.

iTunes to eliminate DRM and begin tiered pricing! [Breaking New...]

At the MacWorld keynote speech today Apple announced some key changes to the iTunes Music Store. Most notably is that all songs will be DRM-free and encoded at 256 Kbps AAC by the end of the quarter. This is very good news for people like me that hate DRM. iTunes DRM is one of the reasons I don't buy my music from iTunes. I still prefer to see everything go DRM-Free MP3 format like AmazonMP3, but this is a good step in the right direction for Apple.

Other good news from the keynote is that iTunes is going to a tiered pricing scheme. Meaning older songs or albums will cost less than new releases. The prices will now start at 69 cents a track, then go up to 99 cents and $1.29. This seems logical and most people will welcome the price break for classic tracks/albums.

Leisure McCorkle is an old friend from Charlotte N.C. He was always in cool bands growing up and music was a huge part of his life. I reconnected with Leisure McCorkle on Facebook recently and found out that he is still going strong with his musical career. A dedicated follower of the American underground music scene, singer/songwriter Leisure McCorkle brings a healthy knowledge of the classic alternative scene to his brand of energetic hard rock. Starting in the mid-90's, he recorded the lo fi Nappy Superstar on an 8-track in 1997. Put together with very little money, the recording still commanded a good response from music critics and helped his live shows develop some longtime fans. Following with American Ghetto Pop Machine, McCorkle expanded on his work with better writing and better production, even scoring a licensing deal with MTV that resulted in several songs being included in their reality shows. By 2002, Jet Set Baby became the hardest rocking album in his canon as he continued to explore the boundaries of poppy alternative rock with a full backing band.

I talk a lot about the AmazonMP3 music store on this site. The main reason for that is because AmazonMP3 offers a comparable music library to iTunes and their prices are less expensive. Also, everything Amazon sells in their store is DRM-FREE. Which means there are no restrictions as to where, how, who plays the music you purchase. This is the way online music buying should be. Imagine if you will the old says of CDs if you had to go to a Sony store to buy a special CD that only worked in a special Sony CD player? Think about it.

Don't get me wrong, I still use iTunes to manage my music and feed my iPod and iPhone. I just don't buy my music from iTunes, for reasons I have already stated above.. I am not familiar with the Twilight books or the new movie. I hear it is quite a phenomenon. I think it has something to do with teenage vampires. "On The Beach" by Neil Young is by far my favorite Neil Young album. This album was released in 1974 but it was one of the last albums to actually be released by Neil on CD. In fact, there was a website dedicated to getting Neil to release this album on CD called "Release On The Beach". It was a grass-roots fan site that was getting people to sign a petition to present to Mr. Young himself. A few years back Neil did release "On The Beach" on CD and it is as great as ever. Tracks like "Walk On", "Revolution Blues", and "Ambulance Blues" are a must listen. The whole album is fantastic but those are my favorites. This is an incredible deal to be able to snag the whole album for only $1.99!
