Take a look for yourself and find a brilliant image and the knowledge behind the shoot. Drew will talk about the behind the scenes activity that leads to the awesome shot and also the lighting, composition and the amazing depth and perspective he achieves with those tools. The Bridge of Doom how-to is another great example of how to create perfect depth and perspective in your photograph.

This video will show you:

on location lighting of a large area for great depth and perspective.

Drew’s thoughts on camera angle and low iso setting.

the benefits of scouting for the perfect location for your conceptual photography shoot.

the importance of engaging/communicating with the model to get just the right expression.

In this video tutorial Drew Gardner talks about his commissioned recreation, The Queen’s Speech. This is tutorial 15 of 15 from the series, shooting a group portrait with a long focal length flattens the composition to give a lovely painterly feeling. The Queen’s Speech was done as part of a commissioned series and took lots of planning to bring together. Drew was able to pull it off and get an amazing realism in “the Queen’s” expression by engaging her to actually shout, the best way to convey action is to be active!

Run time: 4min 26sec, size: 239MB, part 15 of 15

Different focal lengths provide varied effects on your subject. See how a long focal length affected this particular photograph and compare it with another example of a complex shoot that required some real action from its models and another perfect historical reenactment, the Nelson’s Fall how-to.

In this video tutorial you will learn:

how to effectively shoot a complex photo shoot.

the effect of using a long focal length for your portrait.

location lighting of a large area for great depth and perspective.

the importance of engaging/communicating with the model to get just the right expression.

the importance of engaging yourself to get just the right shot.

the benefits of a personal photography project.

This video is 15 in a series of 15 video tutorials hosted by Drew Gardner. Each tutorial focuses on a specific conceptual photograph and the process of making that photo. Drew shares his techniques, tips and tricks he has learned throughout his career to help you achieve your own amazing images.
