An amazing set of more than 125 previously unpublished color photographs by war photojournalist and co-founder of Magnum, Robert Capa is being presented at the International Center of Photography in New York.

“Capa regularly used colour film from the 1940s until his death in 1954. Some of these photographs were published in magazines of the day, but the majority have never been printed, seen, or even studied. Over the years, this aspect of Capa’s career has virtually been forgotten. With over 100 contemporary color prints by the famous photojournalist, Capa in Color presents this work an integral part of his post-war career and fundamental in remaining relevant to magazines.”

Created using FES2014 data from Aviso+, this map displays maximum tidal ranges (the difference between the lowest low tide and highest high tide) around the world. As tides are primarily an ocean phenomenon, the data is presented in an ocean-centric Spilhaus projection.

This map of the worlds tides come from Dave Taylor at Pathfinder Geospatial not only is enchanting in introducing to me a Spilhaus projection (a map that emphasizes the seamless connection of water masses surrounded by continents) but is also mesmerizing in its details and color.

Another of Taylor’s maps charts out the varying levels of salt in the world’s oceans, a difference I hadn’t really thought that much about before.

I’ve been traveling a lot recently. I am in fact just back from 3 months in Switzerland and Central Europe. So I thought I’d share some travel stuff I love.

Matador is one of my favc travel brands and I have a lot of their stuff. This here are the flat pack bottles. I use them for shampoo and conditioner. When they are full, they slip neatly into my toiletry bag, when they are empty, they are practically non-existent.

The Globe will be streaming some of their past productions on their YouTube channel, with each show featured on the channel available to stream for two weeks before the next play airs. Their 2009 production of Romeo & Juliet just premiered on April 22, and will be followed by The Two Noble Kinsmen (2018), The Winter’s Tale (2018), The Merry Wives of Windsor (2019), and A Midsummer Night’s Dream (2013).

A NASA camera aboard the Deep Space Climate Observatory (DSCOVR) has captured a unique view of the Moon as it passed between the spacecraft and Earth. A series of test images shows the fully illuminated “dark side” of the Moon that is not visible from Earth.

With a mix of stunning videos, interactive features and narration from some of the Park Rangers, this project, The Hidden World of The National Parks, is deeply satisfying.

This isn’t meant to be an exhaustive list (there are really so many, but if you send me good ones, I’ll update this post), but instead a few ones I’ve found solace in.

We marvelled recently at Holy Men: Varanasi, India by Joey L, a stunning portrait series of people Varanasi, India. Well, Joey L. has even more great work in his portfolio (which includes top Hollywood stars and icons). He has a great deal of connection with the people of the Lower Omo River Valley in southern Ethiopia. 

These attentive portraits display an interest, affinity and affection for each of the subjects.

He has also been working on a narrative film project on Kickstarter called "People of the Delta" Film Project" (see the video below), that was fully funded a year ago. I am looking forward to the final project.

Lightscapes is a collection of dancing light forms that bring you through Death Valley, Red Rock Canyon, Kern River Valley and Kennedy Meadows. The work is all done in camera, using the natural moon light and a standard exposure.

UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and an honorary member of the Academy of Arts and Sciences in USA, Sebastião Salgado has made a name for himself with 40+ years of stunning work, which have garnered him a great many awards and accolades.

Salgado:

What are during less-frigid times simply water caves on the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore in Northern Wisconsin become these ice cathedrals, and AP photographer Brian Peterson has captured these stunning images from this winter.

Smart spent some time locked away in a mental asylum for many years for his supposed religious "mania". Even after Smart's eventual release, a negative reputation continued to pursue him as he was known for incurring more debt than he could pay off; this ultimately led to his confinement in debtor's prison until his death.
