The stigma often associated with manic depression and other mental disorders is very real.
Many people with bipolar disorder or other mental illnesses are afraid to share their condition with other people for fear of ridicule or judgment.
The stigma is so real in fact many will avoid telling friends or family of their mental condition.
Many people with bipolar disorder face stigma and discomfort from well-meaning friends and family members that don’t really understand bipolar disorder.
It is common for patients with bipolar disorder to feel misunderstood.
Unfortunately even many health care providers carry with them a biased attitude toward bipolar patients.
Many have a difficult time focusing on the real reason a person is in their office.
Instead they focus on the mental health issue.
Here are some small steps patients and family members can take to help overcome the stigma associated with mental illness.
* Always accept your condition for what it is.
* Never attempt to hide your condition for fear that others will be un-accepting or misunderstand you.
* Educate friends and family.
Direct them to a number of sites that help explain bipolar disorder and other mental illnesses.
Great reference sites include the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
* Confidently explain that one if five people suffers from some form of mental illness or another.
* Remember that you are more an insider than you realize.
* One out of every five of your friends, acquaintances or associates likely suffers from some form of mental illness.
-Use support groups to help bolster your self-confidence and promote your inner peace and well-being.
- Remember to always hold your head high with dignity and respect.
Never accept less than the utmost respect when consulting with friends, family or your doctor.

When children are literally up to their gills with the learning and sportactivities in school, it may seem superfluous to enroll them for after school activities.
In spite of this, after school programs are sprouting up in large numbers and most of these are booked full.
This shows that there is a real need for after school activities.
The unavailability of parental supervision is the leading cause for the surge in after school programs.
It is seen that many children spend about 20-25 hours a week unsupervised and alone at home.
And as the saying goes, “An idle mind is a devil’s workshop”.
Children who are left alone to contend with too much free time invariably fall into the wrong company.
Drug abuse, alcohol, tobacco and crime come knocking at their doors sooner rather than later.
Parents enroll children to various after school programs to keep them occupied in a productive manner.
This way, the kids are free to enjoy themselves in a supervised activity.
Crime is considered to be at its peak during the after school hours, between 3- 4 p.
m.
During such a time, children need protection.
Getting the children together under one roof and encouraging them to participate in a group activity is protection enough.
It diverts the children from ennui too.
Obesity is a matter of growing concern in this country.
It is noticed that more and more children are becoming couch potatoes.
After school, many of them relax on the sofa with packets of chips, cool drinks or chocolates while they watch T.
V.
30 % of the kids below the age of 19 are considered overweight, and about 15% of these are obese.
An after school program ensures that the child shakes off his lethargy and keeps himself busy.
This also helps to reduce the child’s fascination for T.
V and computer games.
After school activities that promote social awareness develop the individual’s sense of social responsibility.
It is seen that these sorts of programs not only keep kids out of trouble, but also help to produce responsible citizens.
To that extent, they are valuable building blocks in a child’s personality.
Times are changing and parents want their children to excel in academics as well as in other activities.
This may be a reflection of the parent’s unfulfilled desire to excel - a remnant from his own childhood.
Whatever the reason, parents today encourage their children to enroll themselves in various programs and develop the various facets of their individuality.
Children too seem to be comfortable learning many things at the same time, and gain satisfaction from this.

There are many things we do to add a little splash of color to our summer gardens but we often fail to focus on keeping our summer gardens looking lush and green just a little bit longer even though we know that by doing so we are essentially prolonging the life and therefore our enjoyment of our summer gardens.
The focus of this article is to keep your summer garden looking crisp and green as long as possible by taking a few extra steps a little earlier in the summer months to prepare for the inevitable beginning of the end.
One thing to keep in mind is that once your summer garden begins to take on that yellowish brown hue that indicates the end of summer it always seems to be a downhill ride into the fall.
That ride, more often than not is over far too quickly and your summer garden is but a dim reminder of its formerly glorious summer greenery.
First things first, get rid of the yellowing leaves and dying flowers as they make their appearance.
They rob the remainder of the garden of its splendor and leave the pallor of decay on the garden far too soon in the season.
You will be glad you did, as it will immediately restore the look of health and vitality that your summer garden is missing while also providing a much perkier attitude and bearing from the remaining plants.
Weed.
Remove those pesky weeds that detract from the beauty and lushness of the greenery in your garden.
By removing the weeds your entire summer garden looks better almost immediately.
While you are at it, reapply mulch.
This will delay the inevitable return of the weeds while also providing an extra layer for holding in moisture to keep your plants from drying out and looking green.
Another great thing about mulch is that it simply makes things look neat and orderly.
Fill in the gaps.
While you are in the process of plucking leaves, weeds, and dead flowers from your summer garden it is quite likely that a few gaps will be created.
Fill them in other greenery, small shrubs (evergreens are a good idea in this situation), or nice garden art for smiles and a little dash of color among the green.
The effects are often stunning and you have the look of an almost new summer garden for only half the effort and expense of creating one.
You may also want to scour the local plant stores for late season offerings and markdowns.
These are often well cared for and in good condition to add a little touch of color or green to your garden.
Another way to keep your summer garden green is to plant plants that are appropriate to your climate.
On an ordinary summer, excluding drought or excessive rain conditions this will be the best way to achieve maximum greenness from your garden.
This is actually one of the best ways to prolong the life of your garden as well because the plants being used are accustomed to the weather patterns that exist in your locale.
For this reason they will be much better suited to stay green and healthy much longer than most implants that are not accustomed to the local weather patterns.
Creating a greener garden is a worthy cause for most gardeners.
We plant our summer gardens because we want to enjoy them.
By keeping them green, healthy, and vibrant a little bit longer we are able to prolong our enjoyment of our gardens as well as the productivity of our summer gardens.
This means more flowers, more fruit, more vegetables, and much longer spans of greenery for the uninitiated.
Taking the steps mentioned above in order to prolong the life and your enjoyment of your summer garden seems to be a worthy sacrifice for an extra month of enjoying your lawn and outdoor living space.

Planning on a family vacation? Dont worry trips and other family outings do not have to be restricted because your child has been diagnosed with juvenile diabetes.
You can do it all still but there are some extra preparations and planning that will have to happen first.
The preparations you make is going to be dependant on what kind of trip you are planning, for how long and the activities that you will be participating in.
It is a good idea if you are going out of town on an airplane or by car to get some documentation from your doctor.
You should get a letter that explains your childs condition and an extra prescription for any unforeseen eventualities.
If you are going on a lengthy plane ride, you will need the letter to get permission to bring your childs medicine and syringes onto the airplane with you instead of storing them in your luggage.
If you are unsure what special arrangements you are going to need to make, speak to your doctor.
If you are going on a vacation that will involve lots of extra physical activity (such as camping or hiking), be sure that you bring extra food to replace the energy that is going to be used up.
If there is going to be less physical activity, more frequent testing of blood sugar levels will be necessary to make sure too much insulin isnt being used.
When traveling a distance that involves crossing different time zones, be prepared to make additional adjustments to your childs eating schedule.
No matter what the clock says, your child is going to need their insulin and food on their bodys time.
Again, your doctor can help you make a plan for this adjustment and it will be based on the length of your trip, the difference in time zones, and your child.

Teaching a puppy or a dog proper socialization skills is vital to the safety of both your dog and other dogs and people with whom he comes into contact.
A properly socialized dog is a happy dog, and a joy to be around for both humans and animals.
A poorly socialized dog, or one with no socialization at all, is a danger to other animals, other people and even his own family.
Socialization is best done when the puppy is as young as possible The socialization lessons a young puppy learns are difficult to undo, and it is important to remember that the socialization skills the puppy learns will affect his behavior for the rest of his life.
A dog that is properly socialized will be neither frightened of nor aggressive towards either animals or humans.
A properly socialized dog will take each new experience and stimulus in stride, and not become fearful or aggressive.
Dogs that are not properly socialized often bite because of fear, and such a dog can become a hazard and a liability to the family who owns it.
Improperly socialized dogs are also unable to adapt to new situations.
A routine matter like a trip to the vets or to a friends house can quickly stress the dog out and lead to all sorts of problems.
Socialization is best done when the puppy is very young, perhaps around 12 weeks of age.
Even after 12 weeks, however, it is important that the puppy continues its socialization in order to refine the all important social skills.
It is possible to socialize an older puppy, but it is very difficult to achieve after the all important 12 week period has passed.
There are so definite do’s and don’t when it comes to properly socializing any puppy.
Let’s start with what to do.
Later in this article we will explore what to avoid.
Socialization do’s> Make each of the socialization events as pleasant and non-threatening for the puppy as possible.
If a puppy’s first experience with any new experience is an unpleasant one, it will be very difficult to undo that in the puppy’s mind.
In some cases, an early trauma can morph into a phobia that can last for a lifetime.
It is better to take things slow and avoid having the puppy become frightened or injured.
> Try inviting your friends over to meet the new puppy.
It is important to included as many different people as possible in the puppy’s circle of acquaintances, including men, women, children, adults, as well as people of many diverse ethnic backgrounds and ages.
> Also invite friendly and healthy dogs and puppies over to meet your puppy.
It is important for the puppy to meet a wide variety of other animals, including cats, hamsters, rabbits and other animals he is likely to meet.
It is of course important to make sure that all animals the puppy comes into contact with have received all necessary vaccinations.
> Take the puppy to many different places, including shopping centers, pet stores, parks, school playgrounds and on walks around the neighborhood.
Try to expose the puppy to places where they will be crowds of people and lots of diverse activity going on.
> Take the puppy for frequent short rides in the car.
During these rides, be sure to stop the car once in a while and let the puppy look out the window at the world outside.
> Introduce your puppy to a variety of items that may be unfamiliar.
The puppy should be exposed to common items like bags, boxes, vacuum cleaners, umbrellas, hats, etc.
that may be frightening to him.
Allow and encourage the puppy to explore these items and see that he has nothing to fear from them.
> Get the puppy used to a variety of objects by rearranging familiar ones.
Simply placing a chair upside down, or placing a table on its side, creates an object that your puppy will perceive as totally new.
> Get the puppy used to common procedures like being brushed, bathed, having the nails clipped, teeth cleaned, ears cleaned, etc.
Your groomer and your veterinarian with thank you for this.
> Introduce the puppy to common things around the house, such as stairs.
Also introduce the puppy to the collar and leash, so he will be comfortable with these items.
There are of course some things to avoid when socializing a puppy.
These socialization don’ts include:> Do not place the puppy on the ground when strange animals are present.
An attack, or even a surprise inspection, by an unknown animal could traumatize the puppy and hurt his socialization.
> Do not inadvertently reward fear based behavior.
When the puppy shows fear, it is normal to try to sooth it, but this could reinforce the fear based behavior and make it worse.
Since biting is often a fear based behavior, reinforcing fear can create problems with biting.
> Do not force or rush the socialization process.
It is important to allow the puppy to socialize at his own pace.
> Do not try to do too much too soon.
Young puppies have short attention spans, and continuing lessons after that attention span has passed will be a waste of your time and your puppy’s.
> Do not wait too long to begin.
There is a short window in which to begin the socialization process.
A young puppy is a blank slate, and it is important to fill that slate with positive socialization skills as early as possible.

All the ’selves’ when collective provide us with tools to develop the personality by centering in on the inner self.
We have five sides of the personality to consider.
The variants however must also be consider, which include the parent, child, rebellious, creative, critical, nurturing and other sides of the brain.
By practicing yoga, meditation, and surrendering to prayers it can help us with exploring the real self.
The practices will divert your thoughts, helping you to develop a positive approach towards life.
The techniques will help you by showing you the way to expand the confident self.
Any of us can manage these tasks eradicating the mind of negative thoughts such as emotional worries, apprehension, hatred towards others, feeling introverted and so on.
On the other hand, the obliteration of this action will create a vacuity in your mind and could result in the hollowness that leaves you feeling down in the mouth or outright disconsolate.
For that reason, some positive action must occur.
Perhaps you can donate some of your time to charity to abandon the self-pity and cultivate altruism that guides you to spiritual thoughts, which will impart those empty feelings.
This will give you the ability to expand self-awareness, so that you can analyze where the problems are coming from in your mind.
We all must appraise our individualism or eccentricity.
The examining of the inner self will help us decide the level of independency we store within us to use for social and personality expansion.
What we comprehend as the personality plays a critical role in self-development.
The self-concept comprises of steadfastness, reliability of mind and commonly, it resists change.
Once we form an opinion of ourselves, it is challenging to change it.
If it changes without problems, there will be no permanence in the personality of that individual.
We must appraise our failure and success constantly.
This enables us to improve our valuation about oneself.
The human mechanisms take account of the psychosomatic or emotional reactions, physical, and social attributes, which can be narrow-minded by ones own beliefs, attitudes, habits and ideas.
We must consider other aspects of social and personality development, which compose self-control.
What this means is our need to exert ones own strength of character or willpower on their actions and behaviors.
Throughout the self-growth phase, we must maneuver onward by using our self-healing tools, which give us a lasting process of developing a higher consciousness.
It is our duty as humans to continue in the processes in order to persevere and move toward our success.
We must keep social and personality development in sight at all times.
This means we all must find other ways to build our own personality and discover the self.
Take into account-guided relaxation, yoga, meditation and other holistic practices can help you with social and personality development.
Relaxing the mind and body is extremely important.
Because many people do not take time out to relax, it often leads to emotional upsets, physical and mental disorders.
The body and mind must have some time to recuperate from continuous mobility.
As humans, we must arrive at a meeting point on the natural processes of social and personality development.
However, social development requires much forethought, since we want to void socialization that encourages negative.
We have to have a balance in order to keep reality in mind however.
This means that we must constantly regulate self and others to make sure that we achieve and maintain that balance of mind.
Or else, it could cause a serious downslide, which sends us to the bottom of failure.
