Recently an identify theft case in which a Moroccan national by the name of Fouad Mourtada opened a profile on Facebook in the Moroccan Prince Moulay Rachid’s name, has put Internet companies on heightened alert. Mourtada was sentenced to three years in prison by the Moroccan government for this breach of trust. However, using a false user name is hardly something out of the ordinary. In fact, BackgammonMasters Mexico has found that many system users have opened account names that are not the actual names of the users. Similar to the case in Morocco, these fraudulent users make accounts in the names of celebrities including Madonna, Tom Cruise and Prince William and others.

A representative of BackgammonMasters.com, the best place for online backgammon and blackjack, recently commented on the trend of using certain types of fake names online. It has become so popular recently that BackgammonMasters refers to this type of user as “Gold usernames.” People are even buying and selling “Gold usernames” such as backgammonking, pokerking, and blackjack-king in forums on the internet. For the most part, this practice has been used for fun and compared to a car owner ordering a personalized license plate, just another way to stand out above the rest.

However, because of the recent case in Morocco, which involved a now world-renowned online company like Facebook, other companies that offer games like Poker, online Backgammon and Blackjack are going on high alert.

Mourtada was released from prison after serving just 43 days of his term . It is believed that he did not have to carry out his entire sentence due to the pressure of Human Rights groups that circulated petitions to activists and concerned citizens for the prisoner’s release. According to Mourtada’s lawyer, while this practice of using false usernames is more common in European countries, this was a first for Moroccan society and clearly not something taken lightly by the authorities.

Gin Rummy Strategy

Gin Rummy is a classic skill-based card game that leaves much room for personal rummy strategy. The following tips can be seen as a list of basic guidelines that can help unravel some of the game's basic elements that incorporate the use of skill.

A single standard deck of 52 cards is used in Gin Rummy. This determines certain aspects of the game as well as dictates some guidelines you want to pay attention to.

First, since only one deck of cards is being used, in case a card you need has been discarded onto the discard pile while you cannot pick it up, note that it is not likely to show up again in this round. Therefore, you might want to reconsider your melding strategy accordingly.
In addition, a Gin Rummy round is usually over after half way through the deck, therefore, at this stage you might want to get rid of any high cards that do not match any of your melds ? to reduce your deadwood count.

When drawing cards, it is advisable that you pick up cards from the stock pile rather than the discard pile. This way your opponents will have a much harder time keeping track of the cards in your hand. Another good reason to draw cards from the stock pile is related to the hands of your opponents. Since the cards discarded onto the discard pile are cards your opponents do not need, by picking up cards from the stock pile you may be preventing them from completing melds.

Pay attention to the cards your opponent draw from the stock pile so you can avoid throwing them cards they need to complete their melds.

To reduce their deadwood count, many players choose to avoid picking up card of high value. You can use this opportunity to form melds out of these cards easily.

In a multi-round Gin Rummy game catching your opponents off guard by knocking early during a round will pay off more than waiting for Gin in the long run.

* In both ring games and tournaments, it is advisable that you knock early to avoid the risk of undercut.

In case you achieved a significant advantage over your opponents during previous rounds, it is best to avoid any further risks, and so to maintain the current score status.

When forming melds you want to go for 4 card sets rather consecutive runs, to prevent your opponents from laying off their unmatching cards at the end of the round.

When it comes to ring games, the points are not accumulated after each round is over, and so it is advisable you go for a gin rather thank knock, since this move pays more.

My friend Earl , over at The House of Poker Blues posted about poker Etiquette today.
Id have to say i agree with everything he says.

Ive noticed lately that a lot more people are talking about their cards they mucked before the hand is over.
To me that is without a doubt the biggest no no at a poker table.

I know alot of people just dont realize that discussing it before the hand is over can effect the way the hand plays out. I try to let them know its bad etiquette in a nice way but sometimes they say things like , so what? or who cares?, that attitude really gets my blood boiling.

If your not going to take the game seriously then why play?

On another note , id have to admit that im guilty of number 5 on Earls list, sometimes, especially if its a player i have notes on and have seen around enough to know they are not noobs , donkey play brings the worst out in me for sure.
