Seattle (her real name) from Seattle`s Travels has travelled to many countries and has seen a lot of places, but she hasn`t quite seen all of Canada yet. She wanted to share with us her Top 10 Places in Canada that she`d most like to visit.

As a full-time travel blogger, I’ve probably spent about 75% of the last five years on the road. I’ve been on trips that have taken me from Morocco to Norway to the Dominican Republic all in one go, and plenty of times trading between Europe and Asia, or the Caribbean and South America before even having a chance to make a quick trip home in between. So, where is home? Canada.

I may not get to spend as much time as I like in Canada, but it is the place that I was born and raised, and the place I call home. Don’t get me wrong, I do feel like I have been lucky enough to see a great deal of our country, with a cross-country train trip from Toronto to Vancouver and back, a couple of East coast road trips, and several adventures to BC, AB & QC—but I want to see more.

Canada is such an incredibly diverse country that it was fairly difficult to narrow down, but here are the top 10 places that I would love to visit, surrounding 60°N 95°W.

1. Tofino, British Columbia

I’ve only been to Victoria so far, but I have probably planned at least five different Vancouver Island road trips in my head. Tofino seems like the perfect spot to centralize my Island adventures around, with dramatic coastlines, small town vibe, and surf culture.

2. The Alaska Highway

Running from Dawson Creek, British Columbia, through Whitehorse, Yukon, to the border of Alaska and Canada, the Alaska Highway is one of Canada’s most beautiful drives. I’d definitely love to spend a couple of week’s road tripping through midnight sun or Northern Lights.

3. Churchill, Manitoba

Polar bears, polar bears, polar bears.

4. Baffin Island, Nunavut

While I’ve had the pleasure of visiting every Canadian Province, I’m yet to step foot in a Territory. I’d be happy to go to any of them, but I’d love to make it up to Baffin Island, Nunavut. The Island consists of endless staggering mountains giving way to stunning coastlines and vast plains. Most people think of Canada’s mountains being on the West Coast, but the mountains of Nunavut are just as beautiful.

5. The Badlands, Alberta

The Badlands of Alberta look like they are made up of a barren wasteland of orange rock and red sand. They extend between Red Deer and Drumheller, made up of a type of dry terrain where rock and soil have been so eroded by wind and water, that it created a geological land of awesomeness.

6. Great Bear Rainforest, British Columbia

The Great Bear Rainforest is the place of Fairy Tales. There is an Island on the Pacific coast of BC that is home to a rare breed of bear that is pure white. No, it’s not a polar bear, it’s actually a subspecies of the American black bear.

7. Treehouses in British Columbia

I’m sure I’m not the only one that has a thing for treehouses. So I’m probably not the only one that swoons for the Free Spirit Spheres & Enchanted Forest Treehouse that dwell in the forests of British Columbia. When can I move in?

8. Halifax, Nova Scotia

I’ve driven into and across Nova Scotia a few times now, but it just never worked out that I had enough time to make my way into Halifax. There are so many things that I’d love to see and experience in the city, including the Alexander Keith’s Brewery, all of the fresh seafood restaurants, and some of the great nightlife I’ve heard so much about. There’s just something about East Coast cities.

9. Manitoulin Island, Ontario

This one is actually pretty close to where I’m living now, so I’m hoping to make it up there by next summer. Not only is it the largest fresh water island in the world, but it holds over 100 lakes of its own, and is home to six Anishinaabe reserves. For me to get there, I will simply have to drive up to Tobermory, and hop on the Chi-Cheemaun Ferry.

10. Nahanni National Park Rabbitkettle Hot springs & Tufa Mounds, Northwest Territories

This might be one place that you’ve never heard of, but it closely resembles the terraces of Pamukkale, Turkey. Numerous terraces of carbonate minerals have been built up, holding warm pools of on the mountainside of Nahanni National Park, in the Northwest Territories. These terraces are known as the Rabbitkettle Hot springs and Tufa Mounds.

We've put together an informational post on how to view the latitude and longitude on your iPhone and Android's photos based on the location that you took them. In addition, we'll show you how to turn coordinates from degrees, minutes, seconds (DMS) to decimal format using a simple formula.

iOS and Android Instructions:

To get the latitude and longitude of your location you first need to:

Turn ON your location services in your privacy settings. This will record your location in the photos metadata.

To view the metadata of the photos you’ve taken download an Exif and GPS viewer app like Koredoko - Exif and GPS viewer. This will show the latitude and longitude coordinates of where the picture was taken.

In the Koredoko app you will see that the picture has the latitude and longitude of where the picture was taken. Click on the (i) beside the coordinates and you will see the metadata of the photo from where you can copy the latitude and longitude coordinates.

To place the coordinates on a photo simply download any photo editor app where you can add text to your photos. With this app you can paste the coordinates to your photos and post it on our Instagram page. This way, others can look up where you took the photo.

Converting Latitude and Longitude to Decimal Format:

If you are given coordinates in ° ' " (degrees, minutes, seconds) there is a simple formula to converting the coordinate to decimal format: D + (M/60) + (S/60)

Divide the ' (minutes) by 60 and divide the " (seconds) by 60 and add them to the ° (degree) value. If there are no (“) seconds then just calculate the (‘) minutes using the formula.

Example: Latitude: 43° 40.00'N Divide 40.00 by 60 =.67 and add to 43 = 43.67

                           Longitude: 79° 24.00’W Divide 24 by 60 = .4 and add to 79 = 79.40

Google Maps and Maps app on iPhone:

Entering coordinates into Google Maps can be tricky and might give you the wrong location if your coordinates are entered incorrectly. If you have coordinates to a location and want to look them up there are two ways to enter coordinates into Google Maps and the Maps app on iPhone:

43° 40’ 00”,-79° 24’ 00” (Note there is no space after the comma)

43.666667,-79.4 (These decimal degrees were created with the above formula)

Note: The minus (-) character is required as Canada is west of the Prime Meridian (Western Hemisphere) which is 0° Longitude and passes through Greenwich, England.

Armed with this bit of knowledge you're now ready to start exploring all that Canada has to offer. And if you happen to find yourself at exactly 60°N 95°W we'd love some photos. :)

We're positive that right now, most of Canada is pretty darn cold! Some of us love this cold weather, others, not so much. We found an article about extreme cold weather survival on discovery.com that will help you stay warm regardless. Whether you're snowboarding, camping, tobogganing, or just commuting to work, here are some great tips on how to stay warm.

Tip #1: Know how to maximize the warmth of your body against the harsh weather climate.

It's a fact that you lose 40-45% of your body heat from an unprotected head, and an even higher percentage from an exposed neck, wrists and ankles due to low insulating fat in these parts of the body. The brain is unable to withstand a lot of cooling, and most blood circulation is on the surface so you will lose heat quickly if your head is uncovered.

Tip #2: Remember C.O.L.D. rules.

C is for Clean - Keep clothes clean:

You may be wondering why clean clothing is important. It's important for sanitary reasons and your own personal comfort, but also for your warmth. Clothing with dirt or grease can lose insulation, as heat escapes easily from crushed or filled air pockets.

O is for Overheating - Avoid overheating:

It's good to keep yourself warm, but if you're far too warm, you're not doing your body a favour in avoiding hypothermia. When you overheat, you sweat. When you sweat, you're wet. Wet clothes decrease insulation quality, and evaporation of sweat will cool your body down. As long as you're warm but not sweating, you're able to keep your body at a warm temperature. If you're feeling too hot, either remove a layer of clothing, open your parka a little, and make sure your head and hands never overheat!

L is for Loose Layers - Wear loose clothing in layers:

Any tight clothing or footgear is ineffective because it constricts your blood flow and decreases trapped air. This makes is easier for frostbite and hypothermia to harm you. Trapped air in between layers is what keeps you insulated, and if you need to remove any layers due to overheating, it's easier for you to do with several loose layers.

D is for dry - Keep clothing dry:

As previously mentioned, being wet in the cold is a great disadvantage to you. Make sure your outer layers are water repellant to avoid snow melting and soaking your clothing, and make sure you aren’t overheating so you don’t sweat! If your clothing becomes wet despite your efforts, you can try to dry them (even if it’s above an open fire, just don’t burn them.) An extremely important item that any person who is camping in the winter should have with them is a heavy, down-lined sleeping bag and this should ALWAYS be kept dry.

If you are camping, don’t forget your other important tools, such as a knife, waterproof matches in a waterproof container, a compass, binoculars, and any other major essentials.

Stay warm!

As you can tell we love the outdoors but when we're done exploring there's nothing like kicking up our feet indoors! What’s more relaxing and Canadian than a good ol’ cabin up North? We rounded up our favourite modern cabins built by Canadians, for Canadians. Your grandfather's cabin, modernized!

1. Sunset Cabin

First up is the Sunset Cabin by Taylor Smyth Architects. It sits on a hill on Lake Simcoe, Ontario. At only 275 sq. ft., this was created to be a hideout from a main cottage. Sophisticated and simple would be the best descriptors for this small space. It’s a one room insulated glass cabin that’s covered with cedar slats on three sides. On one side there is a balcony so you can either sit outside and enjoy the beautiful sunset, or view it from your bed because of the glass wall. A green roof is planted with herbs to camouflage views of the cabin from any other cottages.

Source: taylorsmyth.com

2. Molly's Cabin

Next is Molly’s Cabin by Agathom Architects. Katja and Adam Thom were the geniuses behind this cabin project. This 1000 sq. ft. structure was built on Pointe au Baril in Georgian Bay. What makes this cabin so unique is that it’s built on a rock! (Yes, seriously.) The cabin features a bedroom, living room with library nook, kitchen with dining room, and a small loft that can be used for many purposes. The home is also sustainable, featuring solar panels that power a pump to draw water from the lake. Fuel for the stove, fridge, and lamps are supplied for by propane or lamp oil. On the other side of the island there is an outhouse and two older sleep bunks.

Source: adventure-journal.com

3. La Luge Holiday Cabin

La Luge is a holiday cabin designed by YH2 Architecture. It’s located in a Quebec forest so the inhabitants can enjoy the snowy winters. It’s a 1300 sq. ft. structure that accommodates 6 guests, because the home can be reconfigured to suit your needs. For example, using sliding doors, the users may modify the children’s bedroom into a playground or a guest bedroom and create a more open concept space. It also features an exterior spa and glass walled sauna so you can take in your surroundings. Altogether, the cabin contains 10 different living spaces: a kitchen and dining area, living room, master bedroom, guest bedroom, children’s bedroom, two bathrooms, and of course the spa and sauna.

Source: busyboo.com

4. Alpine Cabin

Alpine Cabin is a 1076 sq. ft. cabin in Port Hardy, BC, Canada. Susan and David Scott of Scott & Scott Architects were in charge of this project. The goal of this cabin was to house the duo remotely during their skateboarding adventures. All materials were kept in their original form, with no finishes. The cabin was created above the ground to rise above the snowfall and resist the winds. It also avoided any machine excavations. It’s completely off the grid, with only a wood burning stove as heat. Water must be carried in from nearby.

Source: scottandscott.ca

5. Clear Lake Cottage

Clear Lake Cottage is a four-season retreat for a family that wanted a 1950’s structure to be replaced with an escape home. It is a 2314 sq. ft. abode created by Maclennan Jaunkalns Miller Architects, which sits 50 ft. from the water on Clear Lake, in ON. This external black metal structure is divided into two main areas: social spaces and a master bedroom have a gorgeous lake view, and two bedrooms, a bathroom and a storage room are toward the back of the building. The internal is the opposite of the external; it incorporates light wood panels for a modern woodsy feel. There’s also a small staircase that leads to a loft on the first floor.

Canada has some of the most breathtaking and rugged landscapes found anywhere in the world. For adventure seekers who are willing to go the distance here is Canada's 5 most challenging trails providing the most amazing terrain for trekking.

1. Canol Heritage Trail, N.W.T.: You'll need at least 20 days to complete this grueling and massive trail. It stretches 355 km’s from the Yukon-Northwest border to Norman Wells. You should go because it is one of the most remote and wilderness-filled experiences that Canada has to offer you.

2. West Coast Trail, B.C.: This trail provides 75 km’s on the west coast of Vancouver Island. It will take you up to 7 days to complete but you will experience some incredible wildlife and you can sleep by the ocean as a bonus.
