Google providing free airport Wi-Fi this Christmas

Google feels your pain, America. Wi-Fi at airports is expensive as all hell. The good news is that Google has set up a plan to provide select airports with free Wi-Fi for the turbulent holiday season. But it's only for this holiday season (from this coming monday until January 15, 2010), so travel often. Check out the participating airports after the jump.

Spint Nextel to Lay Off 2,000 to 2500 Jobs

It appears that the economic downturn has adversely affected the Now Network. Sprint Nextel has announced that it is planning to lay-off more jobs in an effort to reduce its yearly personnel expenditures by about $350 million. This latest round of Sprint job cuts is expected to be nearly completed by December 31, 2009 and may affect between 2,000 and 2,500 employees.

The Nokia N900 Begins Shipping to the US

Nokia's first Maemo-powered handset has began shipping to various markets throughout the globe including North America. Nokia CEO, Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, has confirmed that the highly anticipated Maemo 5 handset is now shipping to some pre-order customers. However, the exact arrival of the Nokia N900 Maemo 5 at US stores has not been specified.

Verizon Bashes iPhone in Latest Commercial

A little bit ago, as you may have heard, Verizon launched an ad campaign with the slogan "There's a map for that." While most everyone found it funny, AT&T (the company which the ad was aimed at) did not. In a bold move, AT&T is suing Verizon, claiming that they feel Verizon "attempted to deliberately mislead the public with its map comparing Verizon’s nationwide 3G coverage to AT&T’s limited 3G coverage."

Radioshack to Sell iPhone 3G and 3GS Later this Month

It looks like Radioshack (or as they now want to be called, "The Shack") is the next big electronics retailer to begin selling Apple's iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS. They will begin selling them in select stores in Dallas-Fort Worth and New York City at the end of this month. The company expects to have the iPhone available nationwide in 2010.

Nokia Launches Exchange Program to Recall 14 Million Faulty Chargers

Here's a cause for concern for Nokia mobile phone users. The company has announced that approximately 14 million of the third-party chargers that were included with Nokia devices pose a potential risk for electric shock. Users with handsets that utilize the AC-3E, AC-3U or AC-4U charger types should visit the Nokia charger exchange web site to get instructions on acquiring replacements for the faulty equipment. The company will replace potentially dangerous phone chargers for free.

Verizon Includes AT&T's Apple iPhone in Misfit Toys Ad

Verizon took a shot at AT&T's flagship phone with it's iDont viral video that promotes the Motorola DROID. This time the carrier took aim at AT&T's iPhone 3GS by including it in the Misfit Toys ad. See the controversial video after the break.

Palm Pixi released with WebOS 1.2.9 Nov. 15th

With the new shipment of Pixi's to arrive shortly, Palm has yet to release the OS version the Pixi will be running on. The Palm Pre runs on WebOS 1.2.1, but with an update to 1.2.9 the new version will include a Facebook app and Synergy with Yahoo integration.

Palm to offer new webOS dev tool Ares

At the end of the year Palm will introduce a new web-based development tool called Ares to the development community. Ares is a drag and drop interface tool that allows for quick development of webOS applications for Palms two devices the Pre and Pixi. Ares will be available for download on the webOS developer website. As the Palm app catalog comes into existence, Ares will be a quick and dirty tool for developers to roll out new applications. Ares also comprises a debugging tool, emulator and the ability to utilize various API's such as Yahoo's Flickr.
