Announcing... Love Feasts at the Boiler Room!

In the tradition of Christians throughout history we will be gathering for a monthly love feast (I Corithians 11:17-34, 2 Peter 2:13, Jude 1:12). These will be public community gatherings where we fellowship through food and conversation, hear teachings from leaders and plan practically for the future. Bring your Bible, a friend and your appetite! Food is provided, and admission is free and open to everyone. We will start eating at 6pm. Plan to hang out together for a few hours.

Like the first century believers and Count Zinzendorf's Moravian community, the Boiler Room desires to engage in day and night rhythms of fasting and feasting, worship and justice, prayer and mission. A Love Feast is a way for our community to break the monthly Global Bridegroom Fast (first Monday-Wednesday of each month) together. We will be providing food and drinks that are appropriate following a fast.

Our first Love Feast will be this Wednesday, September 8th from 6-8pm at the Boiler Room!

Boiler Room Prayer Times

As we move into the fall, the Boiler Room's hours will be increasing. Please check the Boiler Room calendar page for the latest information on our hours and events.

At the time of this blog post, here are the Boiler Room hours effective immediately.

Mondays - 10am-Noon
Tuesdays - 1pm-3pm
Wednesdays - 8am-Noon
Thursdays - 10am-Noon

These are times when the Boiler Room is open for "come and go" prayer. Feel free to come for as long or as short of a time as you would like. There will be live worship leaders or CDs playing to provide an atosphere for worship, personal prayer, Bible study and intercession.

Donnie Luper Healed by God through Prayer!

This was taken from a Facebook note from one of 6:22's board members, Donnie Luper. This all occurred the day after Worshipfest.

It was weird. I woke up Sunday morning at 345 AM with pain in my chest. I thought it was just indigestion but it kept coming in waves and I could not go back to sleep. Then I broke out in a sweat and had diarrhea so knowing just enough to be dangerous was worried I was having a heart attack. I was also having chills but that is not normal for that but just to be safe went to the ER. They took me straight back and did an ekg and all was normal. They also did blood work to see if that enzyme that happens when you have an infarct was in my blood. SO they come back later and tell me my white blood cell count it .9 when normal is 6-10 and my platelets were also low. They said I needed to stay in the hospital to see they could do the blood test for the enzyme a couple more times cause sometimes it does not show up for a couple of hours (up to 10 hours) after a heart attack. They started and IV and took me upstairs. They also said my potassium was low and gave me a potassium pill and Nexium for my indigestion in case I had acid reflux.

I went upstairs and the hematologist came in to discuss my blood count numbers. I asked him what the differential diagnosis was and he said sometype of infection, something viral and also leukemia. He said if it was leukemia that I would probably have to go to Duke or ECU for chemotherapy starting Tuesday or Wednesday. So I was just a little concerned. He asked if I had any ticks on me lately and I pulled on off of me about 3-4 weeks ago. It was not one that had bitten me that I know but was crawling on my leg. So he said it could be a tick bite disease also.

He gave me some doxycycline (antibiotic) in my IV and said he was going to go look at a smear of my blood. He came back up and said all of my white blood cells looked normal that it was just low. He told me he was going to have to set me up for a bone marrow biopsy to make sure it was not leukemia. So they told me they were going to do it first thing Monday morning.

I had all kinds of people come in to visit yesterday and had about 4 people lay hands on me and pray for healing. When Cal Hayslip prayed for me along with his wife and Susan and Dana I had this mental image out of Revalation where the prayers of the saints fill up the bowls and the bowls are poured out. And this incredible wave of peace came over me that I had just been healed. I do not know how to describe this. I know I had people all around praying for me. ANd a really strange thing happened right before I went to bed. I was flipping thru the channels and stopped on TBN the religious channel. I do not usually watch it but there is one guy I like on that channel who is a really good preache. His name is Derek Prince. About 2 minutes into his message he stopped and looked at the camera and said that he knew there was someone who was watching who was in a hospital bed and they are wondering if you have leukemia. Then he said if you have prayed for healing just know that the Lord has answered your prayers. I just felt like God was talking to me thru him.

The nurse came in at 2 AM Monday morning and drew blood again and they sent it to the lab. She came back in at 5 AM and told me they were going to have to draw some more blood. I asked her if it was to recheck the first test and she said yes. I asked her if it was because my white count was normal and she said yes and I told her why and about the night before. She said that it would be a miracle if my count went from .9 to 10.9 in 12 hours.

Well it got to be 7:30 when the Hematologist came in and he asked me if I had heard the news. I told him about the night before also and he said that stranger things have happened but based on the blood smear and also on the count that there was no need to do the bone marrow biopsy. My platelet count was still a little low but they were going to let me go home. My liver enzymes were a little high also so they thought with my tick exposure that it was something called Ehrlichiosis. This is something that has a classic triad of high liver enzymes, low platelets and low white blood cells. And my symptoms fit it exactly also.

So they let me out at 10:30 and I came home. I slept about 3 hours because I had not gotten much sleep. SO I am going to go to work tomorrow and just stay on the doxycycline.

God is good to have healed me but would also have been just as much on the throne and good if had not done so. So I am praying that I will continue to walk hard after him.

Secret Place Internships - Scholarship money available!

I believe God has one or two more young adults that He wants to be involved in the Secret Place internships this fall. We have decided to make it a part-time internship (20-25 hours per week), so that an intern could also go to school or work part time while being an intern.

The cost of the internship is $250 (which covers books, classes and monthly field trips), but we have received some scholarship money so that we can offer one internship for only $100!

Important: if you are interested or even considering this, please email me immediately at matthewlilley@622ministries.org. We want to dialogue with you, even during the decision-making process, to answer any questions and discern together if this is something God desires for you to do. After some conversation, we will worry about the intern application, costs, etc.

The internship will be 16 weeks of “secret place” ministry to the Lord (Acts 13:2, Matthew 6:1-17) where young adults can develop spiritual disciplines to root them in a lifestyle of encounter with God. They will be trained in sound doctrine through classes in the Paradigm School of Ministry and in devotional Bible study in the prayer room atmosphere.

The interns will be involved in serving and leading in the flow of ministry at the Greenville Boiler Room including Morning Prayer meetings, 6:22 on Friday nights, monthly Burns and other various events. Interns will utilize and develop their gifts through opportunities in leading prayer, leading worship, media/technology and administration.

The internships are named after the "secret place" of prayer, fasting and giving described by Jesus in Matthew 6 that gains the rewards of the Father:

1 “Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven.

6 But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.

17 But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, 18 so that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.

This internship will be for:

Those who feel a call as a prayer missionary. The internship would be a required "on ramp" for those who want to be "Annas" (Luke 2:36-38) on staff at the Boiler Room or another prayer room.
Those who want to study and practice the concept of day and night prayer.
Any young adult who desires to consecrate themselves to God in a season of more intensive prayer, fasting and ministry.

We are excited to announce that one of our Secret Place interns, Cory Lotspeich will be returning to the Boiler Room for an extended 9-month, full-time Leadership Internship. Cory feels that he is called to full-time ministry, rooted in ministry to God through fasting and prayer. This internship will give Cory a chance to experience some of the weightier leadership responsibilities that come with ministry at the Boiler Room. Cory has a growing teaching gift, and he will be helping to teach some of the classes in future Secret Place Internships – taking what he has received and pouring out to others.

Pray and Fast Together
Begin the fast with us - join us Monday morning at the Boiler Room from 10-11:30am for prayer and worship.

What is the Global Bridegroom Fast?
The Global Bridegroom Fast (GBF) is a monthly, three-day "global solemn assembly" of believers unified by the Holy Spirit in worship, prayer, and fasting. Focused on and sustained by experiencing the love of Jesus as the Bridegroom God (Mt. 9:15), this fast is a worldwide concert of prayer when believers unite to seek the Lord’s face—at the same time, with the same burdens, and in the same Spirit. The GBF is held the first Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of every month during the months of January to November, and the first Monday through Sunday of December, making a total of forty days of fasting each year.

Day and Night Worship and Prayer : The Means or the End?

"Night and day prayer is both part of the means and part of the end of the Kingdom of God coming to the earth. That is - through history, whenever night and day prayer has taken place over a sustained period in a particular location a move of God has not been far behind. And, when God does move in answer to prayer, part of the result is more worship and prayer. Part of our destiny is night and day prayer and worship around the throne of God, and part of how we will get there is the church continually crying out day and night for justice!" (via SHOP)

Or as John Piper says in his book Let The Nations Be Glad:

"Worship, therefore, is the fuel and goal of missions. It’s the goal of missions because in missions we simply aim to bring the nations into the white hot enjoyment of God’s glory."

Wednesday Night Bible Study

Monday Morning Prayer
A time of “come and go” prayer with an atmosphere with live worship music suitable for prayer, Bible meditation and worship. Join us on Mondays 10:00-11:30am!

From the Ashes of theBurn - Freedom From Fear

theBurn was last night. Since January we have had five hours of worship and prayer the third Friday of each month. I believe these Burns are the best example of what 6:22 is really all about. My dream is a Burn that literally never stops 24/7!

The first two hours I led worship with the 6:22 band. We played a few songs, prayed and then starting singing United Pursuit Band's song "Break Every Chain." During the song I sensed there was a battle going on between fear and love. I believe the enemy wanted people bound in fear and insecurity and the Holy Spirit wanted people FREE in the love of the Father. I started singing (prophesying?) "there is freedom rising up... Your love sets us free..." It was like we were having to choose between pride and self sufficiency and letting go so that Jesus could really flood our hearts with His love and presence.

Finally I went into a chorus that simply says "come and take Your place in the center of our hearts, come and take Your place." At that point it's like something broke open in the room, and God's love poured into the place. We repeated that chorus for a while and ended by singing it acapella. When the voices quieted we all sat in silence for a few minutes. Not the awkward silence that sometimes accompanies a worship gathering, but a reverent silence that was letting what God did "settle" in our hearts.

As we sat in silence I saw a vision of bricks. They were piled up in a poor attempt to build a house. However, the foundational pieces were on top, so things were not fitting together properly. Finally I saw us praising God and all the bricks got flung into the air, and when we sat in silence all of the bricks fell down into place. The foundational pieces were on the bottom and the house was build correctly. I felt like God was "settling" in our hearts as the one that we worship - the center of our lives. Priorities and idolatries were being rearranged and Jesus was taking His first place. I shared the vision and we continued theBurn with a greater sense of freedom than I have experienced (maybe the most dancing at the Boiler Room EVER!).

A few things I found out later...

God set some people free to dance for Him for the first time. It was not just an outward thing but an inward freedom from fear that resulted in abandoned, undignified worship. One guy in particular, Josh, was beaming from the freedom he had experienced. Others had not danced for Jesus in a long time. I heard some reports of sore legs today. :)
Donnie Luper had been reading about us being "living stones" in I Peter 2 right before I had the vision! Confirmation!
I woke up this morning and part of my daily Bible reading was Acts 16. The story speaks for itself...

23And when they had laid many stripes on them, they threw them into prison, commanding the jailer to keep them securely.... 25 But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them. 26 Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were loosed.

Help us Celebrate the Global Day of Prayer in Greenville

6:22 Ministries has been heavily involved in orchestrating an exciting event planned for Greenville on Sunday, May 23, the Global Day of Prayer. What has developed will be one of the cities greatest expressions of unified prayer and worship. Hundreds of Christians will unite at the Greenville Town Common from 6-8pm to sing worship and praise to Jesus, repent of their sins and cry out in prayer and intercession for their city. At this point, ten to twelve churches in our area are committed to involve themselves in this event. These churches represent varying denominations, races and geographic areas of our city. Many pastors from these churches will be leading the prayers between songs at the event. You can see a list of churches at www.prayforgreenville.org, the Greenville Global Day of Prayer's web site.

Leading up to that day of united prayer, there will 10 Days of Continuous Prayer, May 13-22. Churches are ordering 10-day prayer guides from waymakers.org that will guide their congregation and prepare their hearts to unite together on May 23. At the Boiler Room we will be organizing non-stop 24/7 prayer during those ten days. Some churches may host prayer meetings at their own facilities during these ten days as well.

Following the event, the churches will be launched into 90 Days of Blessing, where they go out into the city to see transformation – letting God use us to become answers to our own prayers. Attendees at the Town Common will receive a handout offering them outreach opportunities in our city - the information will also be posted on our web site.

The result of the unified prayer & fasting and subsequent outreach that will follow this event could be incredibly fruitful for our city! I would like you to partner with this awesome event God is orchestrating.

Because of the desire to keep this event as neutral as possible, this is not a "6:22 event". There will be no ministry, church or organization listed on any flyer or web site. Most people will probably not even realize how much 6:22 has done to make it happen. But as our partners, we want you to know that much of the weight (organizationally and financially) is falling to us because of our intense desire to see this happen.

Specifically, we have taken responsibility for reserving the Town Common, getting a noise permit and renting Port-A-Johns. We are using our ministry's resources for mailing information to churches, printing information, providing a web site, etc. which is a drain on our office supplies and web site resources. Finally, Matthew Lilley and Beaty Bass are offering their time to organize all of the music for the event - picking songs and putting together a band to lead worship on that day. By the end of the event, it is likely we will invest around $1000 into this initiative. We do not want to put the financial burden on local pastors or the churches' budgets. Intern Vlogs!

To the 6:22 Community,

We the interns (Cory and Will) have discovered that trying to put out a video blog once every two days provides a quick way to get burned out. Thus, from this point forward we are aiming for a once-a-week posting.

This means that at some point throughout the weekend, we will be trying to get a video up to share what God's doing in our hearts and the lives of the 6:22 Staff (note: the interns, as far as I know, are not staff).

We would love to hear your comments and look forward to seeing you at The Boiler Room. As always, check The Boiler Room Calender for all the latest events and keep in mind that every weekday, unless there is a scheduled previous engagement, The Boiler Room is open from 10:00 am - 12:00 noon for you to come pray, worship, rest with God, do homework on your laptop, etc.

The Boiler Room Needs a Sound System!

God is moving at the Boiler Room... and He's using guitars, amps, speakers and microphones as His instruments. Don't believe me? Read Christian's testimony from a few weeks ago or a Ronald and Jenny's stories from December. But we need some help to keep providing an atmosphere of worship for God to change people's lives.

If you were in attendance at the Burn last Friday then you heard that the Boiler Room is in need of a sound system. Our sound guy Daniel Phelps has been letting us use some of his personal equipment since we moved in (last June), but it is now time for us to get some of our equipment. A generous donor lent us $2400 to order what we needed, with the stipulation that we will pay him back by the end of the year.

Broken down over 2010 we need $200/month. We took up an offering last Friday and got 10% of what we needed. This covers January. Would you consider partnering with us monthly through 2010 to cover these costs? I am asking for ten people to give $20/month in 2010. $20 a month! This is easy for most people. Please pray about it!

Here is how I came to 6:22 tonight. Desperate, feeling unloved, with no purpose, just another guy on another road trying to make it through life. Life sucked. I've felt like the youth group and my family and my church have gotten too caught up in what's right, wrong, or traditional and has lost sight of what I believe God is all about: LOVE.

We get to 6:22. The music starts, and it takes me a couple songs to get into it. But for some reason, as I was thinking about life and the day, the question "Should I go to this college?" pops into my head. I was like, "Haha, maybe its from God. (yeah right...)". So I tried to answer it. And I heard "No". I asked myself the question again about 6 more times and tried to say yes in my head but it felt so unnatural compared to NO. So then I get into the music, and I love their lyrics. Every single word on every single song was exactly what I was feeling. I just finally started crying a little, and then I put my hands up just to worship. But then it felt like God was saying "Here, hold my hand." and I got this crazy notion to grab onto this invisible hand. So I did, and it was almost like I could feel it, but it still was nothing there. I can't describe it really. It felt like the picture of the Surgeon holding the hand of the tiny newborn Baby. I was holding the pinky finger of God. I just held on until I couldn't keep my arm up anymore. But then it was just, indescribable. It felt like I was in God's hands, cupped around me. That rest of the night, I didn't put my hands up because I didn't need to reach out to God, he was right there.

It was just amazing.

Finally, at the end of the night, I just felt so fulfilled and with purpose again. I feel like all these annoyances and aggravating things now are insignificant. Who cares. Not me anymore. And then right as Mathew closed the last song, I heard the question "Should I go to this college?" again. And this time I heard "Yes, you're ready now."

Thank You for this ministry, I've been looking for real love and real faith and not the stale Sunday School mold and here you have it in a cramped room across from a bar atop a rickety skate shop. Love is happening there. Thank you.
