Inspired by a friend’s service to country, the organization has evolved into a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit. Each year, it provides over 150 veterans with unforgettable outdoor experiences in hunting, fishing and building community. In this episode the 6.5 Guys were invited by Home with Heroes to be guests and volunteers of it’s annual “Klickitat Salutes” event. During this event Steve and Ed introduce veterans to the sport of long range precision rifle during a day of comradery and shooting. The goal for the day was simple have fun and get each participant to connect multiple times to a steel target set out at 1000 yards – and earning the 1000 yard club pin.

Frequent practice, particularly with live fire rounds through your match rifle is the standard prescription for preparing to do well in your next PRS or NRL match. However the cost of shooting thousands of rounds of ammo and the inevitable wear on a precision rifle barrel can become cost prohibitive to many shooters who are serious about getting plenty of trigger time. In this Gear Update the 6.5 Guys take a look at the Vudoo Gun Works V-22 rimfire repeater which Ed recently purchased. The barreled action has the same footprint as a Remington 700 so it is compatible with a wide variety of chassis, triggers, and rifle accessories and allow the user to have the same ergonomics as their match rifle to easily develop muscle memory. Additional magazines for this rifle system are available from Vudoo Gun Works for $39.95 (as of September 2018). They also sell many other products and accessories through its website. For more information about this product go to www.vudoogunworks.com

In this gear update the 6.5 Guys take a look at the new and improved “Gen 2” version of an already great product. The Valholl Gear Gel Ear Cups specifically designed for ever popular and ubiquitous Howard Leight Impact Sport electronic ear muffs. The popularity of this ear muff can be attributed to its combination of price and performance. However users of this model of ear muff eventually realize the original ear cup seals become hard over time resulting in poor sealing ability to provide adequate hearing protection as well as discomfort over long shooting sessions. The Valholl Gear Gel Earcups provides a best in class solution to this problem. For more information or to purchase this product check out the link at Amazon:

In this gear update the 6.5 Guys take a look at the Area 419 Hellfire Self Timing Muzzle Brake System, as well as the Area 419 Suppressor Adapter. The Hellfire brake is a highly effective muzzle brake which effectively mitigates recoil impulse and has no affect on POI shift from removing or attaching it to a rifle system.

Key Features of this brake include:

Extremely easy installation, brake WILL NOT turn as you torque the collar to lock. No more guessing where the brake ports will line up once you tighten it down!

Simple round knurled nut that requires no tools to time the brake.

– Return to zero is excellent. This means removal of your brake and re-installation will not require a zero change.

Suppressor mount adapters for this system are compatible with a wide array of suppressors makes/models including Thunder Beast Arms and Silencerco.

Simply torque the universal adapter onto your barrel with a 5/8″ wrench, this piece never has to come off. Next, LEFT HAND thread the brake/collar assembly onto the adapter until it is almost snug. Now rotate the brake until it is level, push the brake into the adapter and you will feel it lock onto the taper. Now tighten the collar fully by hand, and you are done!

HELLFIRE Muzzle Brake:

Rearward facing ports for the ultimate in recoil reduction. Independently tested side by side with the best brakes on the market. The HELLFIRE showed 52% recoil reduction on a 6.5 Creedmoor test rifle. This is ~4% more than the one of the most popular brakes on the market.

Proprietary port design controls muzzle rise without the use of top porting.

Face of brake is engraved with caliber to indicate the top for correct orientation, and a horizontal line to aid in leveling.

Made from heat treated 17-4PH Stainless Steel

Brakes will be available in Black Nitride finish or raw stainless (all universal adapters will be black)

Manufactured on state of the art CNC Machines right here in NW Ohio. 100% Made in USA.

1″ OD Brake, 1.1″ OD collar

Brake assembly will add 2.6″ from the thread shoulder (approx 2″ added to OAL of barrel)

Weighs 4.8oz for a 5/8-24 6.5mm brake

Steve and Ed like most precision rifle enthusiasts are afflicted with the addiction to procure new rifles or change/update a rifle configuration. In this episode the 6.5 Guys explore and discuss and review a newly reconfigured precision rifle that Steve recently commissioned work on by Matt Yore of Sawtooth Rifles. At the heart of Steve’s new rifle is the Defiance Deviant action Steve used in his 2015 season match rig, which was overdue for a barrel change. New components and work done include:

Chamber, headspace, and install a new barrel for 6×47 Lapua cartridge

Inlet a new Manners stock and pillar bed the action and new bottom metal from Hawkins Precision

Install Sawtooth Rifles RRS dovetail rail on Manners stock

Install new Area 419 Hellfire muzzle brake system

In this Gear Update the 6.5 Guys take a look at the American Precision Arms (APA) Scope Rings. This product was provided to the 6.5 Guys as a test and evaluation item in the summer of 2017 and has been extensively field tested over the course of almost a year, leading up to this Gear Update posted in August 2018.

The following product information comes from the APA website: “APA’s patented Tru-Loc scope rings are built to higher standards than any other scope rings on the market to date. Our rings go through a quality control process that eliminates any ring that has .0005 of runout or cant. The relationship between the bottom of the ring to the center bore where the scope sits is hyper critical to us. We hold this tolerance for two reasons. First we have no “matched sets”. Each individual ring matches perfectly to any other ring of it’s size. This allows your optic to be mounted into a completely stress free platform regardless of the orientation of the rings. Second is the ability of these rings to return to zero after being removed from a rifle. Our design is not torque sensitive and will return to zero whether tightened at 10 inch pounds or 40 inch pounds. If your base is slightly out of spec our rings adjust themselves and self center as you tighten them down. You’ll also notice that we don’t have “sizes”. Our rings are listed as center height from the bottom of the ring to the center of your optic. This means no more guessing games when it comes to what size you have for future reference when deciding what your next set will be. There are many reasons why all of this is an advantage.”

For more information about this product or to place an order go to APA’s website: https://www.americanprecisionarms.com/collections/scope-rings
