The new world music group, Turli Tava hails from the streets of New York City. With its unique blend of textures, colors, cultures and sounds, it brings forth a fresh take on traditional Balkan tunes, as well as inspiring originals by the group's members. Flamenco guitarist Dan Nadel and Jazz bassist Daniel Ori grew up in Israel, Classical clarinetist Vasko Dukovski is originally from Macedonia, and master percussionist Brahim Fribgane is from Morocco. The four, all prominent instrumentalists, crossed paths in Astoria, the world's most multicultural neighborhood. Turli Tava blends enchanting Macedonian and Mediterranean melodies in a dynamic improvisational atmosphere, maintaining the the explosive danceable rhythms and energy of the Balkan music. The band's name has its origins in the Turkish words turli (=mixed) and tava (=pottery dish.) The quartet will be recording its debut album in late 2012.

Saturday and Sunday, September 29 and 30

Starting at 12 noon, a site specific play will be performed in our garden.
The quartet will be recording its debut album in late 2012.

And save the date: Monday, September 24 at 6pm, Gili Sharett and The Gotham Bassoon Ensemble will play in the garden.
