While this song is specifically about the futility of pursuing true and eternal love since “nothing lasts forever” so love can’t be “the exception”, the tempo is so upbeat and the chorus so fun that you can’t call this a sad love song by any means. It’s a classic of our generation and deservedly so.

Anyone who can listen to this song and retain a bad mood is superhuman. Aside from being confusing (if you came to get down why would you want to jump?), the lyrics get pretty violent in a few parts of the song. All the same the crazy high-pitched whining and jaunty beat make you want to jump around.

Although, based on the “Double Rainbow” guy, maybe the virtues of rainbows have been under-researched.

Okay, let’s check out the era (1968) when Louis Armstrong wrote this lovely number: oh yeah, that’s right, Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated. To be fair, the song was released in January and the assassination took place in April. All the same, I can’t imagine how the Civil Rights struggle would have inspired this peaceful little tune. “I have to protest in order to be treated like a human being, what a wonderful world, la, la, la…”

 
So, to sum it all up, most happy songs make reference to nature, which is great, no harm done. However, the danger comes in when these songs allow you to forget the importance of being responsible. Worrying and sadness also serve a purpose, if we all went around negotiating life’s problems away in our heads by looking to nature for beauty and reassurance, we would not be where we are today as a race. So get rid of that sappy smile and grow up.

Technology is a wonderful thing. Like opposable thumbs and language, it separates us from the animals. It’s also often way more fun than opposable thumbs and language. With technology, we have advanced far beyond the hunter/gatherer tribes we started off as, exploring vast oceans and empty space. But not all technology is great. Some of it…well, some of it just plain sucks. Here’s a list of technological advancements we could’ve done without. Some of them were simply before their time, but most of them were terrible in one way or the other.

1. The Power Glove

If you have geekish tendencies, like me, you know about the Power Glove from the 1980’s movie The Wizard. The movie was about a that kid from the Wonder Years and a red head trying to get a troubled child to some Nintendo contest. Their nemesis, Lucas, possessed the Power Glove, which made him the Terminator of 8-byte consoles. In reality, the Power Glove didn’t so much give you super powers as it gave you a broken TV after you started throwing the useless gadget around the room. A lot of people are hard on the glove. The problem was the thing didn’t work. It had the response time of hundred year old, and that was when it actually decided to obey your commands. Mix in the fact that most Nintendo games from that era were already impossibly hard with a functioning controller and that the only two games ever made specifically for the glove were awful, it’s easy to see why it was so hated. To be fair, it was the inspiration for the Wii, so it did do something right…eventually.

2. The Newton

Like the Power Glove, we could look back to the Newton as the prototype for something great. Unfortunately, the point of a prototype is to work out the many kinks, and people paid good money to become the unwilling testers. Again, the thing just didn’t work. One of the key points in Newton’s advertising was the handwriting recognition software. Imagine, a world where you never needed paper again! Need to write yourself a note? Make a list? Need a day planner? Luckily you have your Newton. But, as you’ll probably remember from the hilarious parody on the Simpsons, it wasn’t so much handwriting recognition as handwriting guessing. Also, it had the vocabulary of a particularly slow first grader. It didn’t even recognize the world “freckles.” Sure, you could manually add any word you wanted to and after a couple of months the Newton would eventually get used to your handwriting, but this thing ate through batteries. In the end the Newton was a non-functioning money pit, and Stephen Jobs took it out to pasture.

3. The Dreamcast

I remember opening up my Dreamcast on Christmas and being so excited. I remember renting games and trying to find one to get really excited about. And I remember next Christmas opening up my Playstation 2 and thanking God I could finally get rid of my Dreamcast. The failure of the Dreamcast is less clear cut than the Power Glove or the Newton. It certainly worked. In fact, when it first came out, it had fantastic graphics. So what went wrong? Well, that’s complicated. You could point to poor advertising, loss of faith in the Sega brand, shipping errors, or the arrival of the cheaper Playstation 2. The simplest answer might be the stars simply aligned and decided the Dreamcast wasn’t meant to be. What made me give up on it? The terrible games. Try to remember a Dreamcast game that really wowed you. Can’t? Yeah…neither can I.

4. E-Books

Alright, this one might be a little controversial. I’m sure some people are going to say “oh, the E-Book is becoming popular. They’re becoming cheaper and more accessible. My friend’s cousin has one, and the other day I saw someone with one on the bus.” Listen, the E-Book has been around for ten years. It’s not happening. Stop trying to make it a thing. I love books, so I’m probably completely biased, but I also don’t think I’m wrong. There should be some advantage to new technology. If it’s just flashy and new for the sake of being flashy and new, what’s the point? Sure, on the E-Book you can store a great number of books at once, and download them directly to your console, saving you that gruelling trip to your local bookstore, but there are plenty off disadvantages. For starters, your standard paperback novel costs somewhere between eight to ten dollars. An E-Book costs hundreds, plus you’re still paying for the electronic versions of the books. It’ll be a long time before it starts paying for itself. Also, finding books to download for your specific console is a nightmare, since a great many haven’t been converted to the cyber world, and even if they have, they might not be compatible with your E-Book. I think paper wins every time.

5. Smart Appliances

It’s the dream fuelled by years of watching the Jetsons. Low on eggs? Your refrigerator knows and orders more from your local grocer. Your oven will automatically spit out a perfectly cooked roast when you walk through the door. It’s the dream of humanity: barely having to do anything at all. And businesses tried their best to make it happen. For a while there it looked like our lives were going to be made so much easier. And then…nothing. The sales tanked, the dream died, and there’s no plans to resurrect it. What happened? Well, there’s the insane cost, for starters. Ever buy a fridge? Ever buy a computer? Do you think they would be cheaper if you mixed them together? And the logistics of the smart appliances were never really thought through. Alright, your fridge orders you eggs. Lets say your grocery store is set up to take orders like this. How do they get to your house? Does the store deliver them? Maybe, but only for a price, which will probably be far more than the price of what your fridge bought. Or they can use the post office. Who doesn’t mind waiting three to six business days for food that will have gone bad? It might’ve been all of these things that ended the smart appliances, but I like to think people as a whole decided that they could get off their butts and buy their own damn eggs.

6. Speech Recognition Software

Maybe I’m being too hasty with this one. It’s possible that speech recognition could have a big breakthrough and become common place. And the software is being used in a limited capacity in some areas of life, but…I’m still calling it a failure, mostly because of the insanely high expectations that were attached to it. Bill Gates once said speech recognition software would be the main form of input for businesses and normal people alike. Do you think I’m writing this article by talking out loud in my living room? When was the last time you used speech recognition software? Probably you were forced to use it when you called a business and got an automated response, which redirected you everywhere except where you actually wanted to go. The accuracy simply isn’t that great and it has trouble recognizing the different meanings of words that are pronounced the same, like “there” “their” or “they’re.” Plus, working in an office sucks enough without everyone talking constantly.

7. Virtual Reality

This time I feel confident that I’m not being too hasty. Do you see that ball up there? That, and strapping TVs to a person’s head, is pretty as much as close as we’ve gotten to virtual reality. Isn’t that just a little sad? Sure…it could happen. Eventually we could all live in a dream world completely separated from our own and we could set up colonies on mars, but if it happens, it won’t be for a very long time. The fact is that technology has a long way to go before it’s even plausible. Most of use don’t want an over-sized hamster ball in our living room. Instead, we would want to people able to sit perfectly still in this world while moving in the other one. That means a virtual reality platform would have to be able to scan our brains to be able to translate our most minute movements in the game. We can’t even figure out how to get a machine to recognize our voice accurately. But I’m sure out great, great grandchildren will have loads of fun in the World of Warcraft virtual world.

8. Zune

Haha…Zune. I think I’ve only known one person who has ever owned a Zune, and they only got it because they’re parents thought it was the same as an iPod. It’s really not. Microsoft promised that the Zune would be the iPod killer, which they intended to do by making false promises and overlooking what made the iPod popular in the first place. For starters, a Zune is clunky and ugly. When they were first released you could only buy them in brown (sexy!) and they were pretty big. That wouldn’t have been such a problem if, say, you could play a bunch of movies or shows on your Zune, but everything had to be formatted to Windows Media. What the hell is formatted to Windows Media? Like everyone else on the planet, I watch everything either on Divx or Megavideo. Also, Microsoft pissed a lot of people off when they said you could import your entire iTunes collection to Zune. That turned out to be as true as Santa Clause.

Furthermore, Nina Simone’s voice is unparalleled in its power but she comes across so unwillingly vulnerable and soft in this, you just want to give her a hug! As opposed to a song like “Pirate Jenny” where your only instinct is to run away from her.

Broken Toy by Keane:

If you like soft rock that doesn’t get too extreme about depression but still manages to strike a nerve, you can definitely go with Keane’s Under the Iron Sea album. It is a brilliant progression of melancholy from “Nothing in My Way” which sounds like some poor senior citizen who’s been knocked down and is striving to find a reason to get back up; to “Bad Dream” which just makes you want to bawl your eyes out even if everything is fine; to “Hamburg Song” which is fit for a funeral march; and then on through to “Broken Toy”. The beat of “Broken Toy” manages to sound both driven and unmotivated, repetitive and yet inescapably convincing with each repetition, preventing you from getting tired of it. Then the lyrics just seal the deal:

While described by a friend as: “more whiny than depressing” I still choose this song. Nothing sums up adolescent awkwardness or the simple humanity of being unsure of yourself as “Creep”. Furthermore, for a good cry, Radiohead is pretty great background music. Even though the lyrics of a song like “Pyramid Song” boast cheerful images like:

And we all went to heaven in a little row boat
There was nothing to fear and nothing to doubt

In order to serve every kind of depression that occurs, this category goes out to those angst-ridden teenagers who feel voiceless and filled with rage. It seems very necessary to go through a Linkin Park/My Chemical Romance period or something of a similar nature during one’s life. Just as long as it’s a phase then you’re all right and it’s somewhat healthy to find out that there are people like you, writing words that express exactly what you feel.

Killjoy Wikipedia and their precious “facts” say that that last part is made up and that it’s just an urban legend, but I think we all know what’s really going on here: Aliens hiding the truth!!! Based on a Hungarian poem by László Jávor, the lyrics of this song read like an emo kid’s scrawls:

I remember when I was a teenager and used to take vacations with my friends. We used to buy bus tickets and go to a theme park or some kind of out of city event. Our group was a mix of boys and girls, and the difference in how each sex prepared was pretty obvious. With the amount of Facebook users quickly escalating to over 400,000,000 it is not an outlandish statement to claim that this social media platform is surely taking over the world and revolutionizing the way we communicate with each other. Loved for its fun, functional features, which basically allow people to advertise their private and public lives at every angle possible, Facebook has also unveiled loopholes into a whole new realm of confrontation which society has never had to face before. Here are some stupid fights caused by the upheaval of Facebook in our modern digital age:

1. Relationship Status

Here’s an instant source of controversy between a guy and a girl contributing to the uncertainties of new relationships. Ever been here? A girl and a guy like each other and everything is flowing wonderfully, until one person (usually the girl) brings up the relationship status conversation. Uh – oh. Awkward. To women in 2010, your Facebook relationship status is the equivalent of a high school promise ring. It’s a public announcement when you’ve selected that special someone to be virtually faithful to. No pun intended. Usually, men don’t want to announce anything of the sort. Whether it is commitment issues, privacy standards, or matters of jealously, relationship statuses cause uncomfortable conflict between people that can surely terrorize a new relationship in our invasive technological age.
 

2. Poking

I never understood this Facebook feature, but it definately has gotten people into trouble. What does it mean when you poke someone or when someone pokes you? At the moment, there is no real accepted “poking etiquette.” I believe it was intended by Facebook to be similar to a “nudge” or just to have an additional communication method to enable people to grab their friends’ attention. Many Facebook users do poke just to give a friendly “hello” but lets be real…Maybe my mind is in the gutter, but poking definitely has a fallic, sexual connotation behind it. Some people consider it annoying or creepy, others perceive it as a cute form of flirting. Either way, I don’t think your boyfriend will be too happy if you pull up your Facebook profile homepage and he sees you have been “poked” by another guy. Good luck explaining that one.
 


 

3. Detagging

 

Whether it is because your parents are joining Facebook, you are job hunting, or you just don’t want people to see you in embarrassing pictures from last night, it’s totally understandable if you are detagging yourself from pictures on Facebook that may hurt your reputation. However, if you meet a guy, have a nice time together and then you notice he detags pictures of you and him, that is a different story. Clicking on that little, blue “detag” hyperlink can seem trivial but can and probably will offend the other person in the picture. This behavior, for whatever the reason may be, demonstrates that that person doesn’t want to be pictured with you on the Internet. This seems pretty misleading and hurtful, but is it worth the confrontation? You tell me.
 

4. Defriending

 

There is no precise, determined method for ending friendships or romantic relationships in a face-to-face format. In real life, people will disclose their hatred for eachother, ignore an old friend, or have a mutual falling out. However, when you defriend someone over cyberspace all of that can be avoided by hitting one button on your keyboard. Some people defriend others because they don’t want that person to be able to see what they are up to. On the other hand, sometimes people avoid the self-torture of stalking an ex girlfriend or boyfriend by defriending that person so they purposely are unable to view their profile. Your decision to defriend someone can have long-lasting repercussions, both for you and the person you defriend. Even if you haven’t communicated with that person in a while, once you notice you have been defriended it is a strange and offensive feeling. When this kind of dynamic between people is made “Facebook official,” it is advertised to the world that a certain person no longer wants to be associated with you. This definitely causes heartache amongst some and probably leads people to get into fights they would have been avoided completely if Facebook was not around.

 

One day you can view your significant others pictures, and the next day that priveldge is robbed from you. What happened?! When someone decides to change their privacy settings and not allow others to see their pictures or what recent activity they have been partaking in, it makes you wonder. “Are they doing something they shouldn’t be doing?” This is one more way that simple clicks in technology can give birth to an argument about trust and suspicion.
 

Although sometimes social media culture and etiquette can be confusing or stressful, Facebook is a powerful tool and an excellent way to keep in contact with people from all over the world. What do you think about Facebook’s realms of confrontations? Let us know your thoughts here.

Facebook claims a “Dislike” button isn’t necessary because there are other ways to express that you dislike something on Facebook. But most of all, they want to keep the site a “positive” place. Well, that is fine and dandy — for Disneybook or for Candylandbook. But this is Facebook. It’s supposed to be the place where “you share with the people in your life.” If I’m disliking something, hell yes, I want the people in my network to be aware of my opinion!
 


 

Facebook should have been created with equality in mind. In the year 2010, with the advanced social media revolution transforming many aspects of our lives, we should be able to advertise and express our negative opinions just as much as our positive voices. If we want to let people know we are not a fan of something, then we should be able to do so! Although this idea would probably drive community pages, brand and products Facebook accounts down a whirlwind of PR nightmares, I am still wondering, “Where is our “Dislike” button?”

For those of you new to this hot-button button issue, let’s go over why we are in favor of the “dislike” option on Facebook.
 

“Liking” certain posts becomes a sarcastic mockery.

Whether a friend posts an irritating complaint, some awful statistic about a war, or shockingly sad news of a breakup, that little thumbs-up icon appears like some grinning stoner. If a boyfriend views a picture of his girlfriend dancing with another guy (although might have been an innocent dance) at a club, and then clicks the “like” button, it is clear that he actually is using this feature to signify the opposite of how he really feels about the photo. Additionally, not only is he expressing his disapproval clicking “like,” it is a signal to the girlfriend and her male dance partner that he saw the picture and knows what they were up to. As you can see, people are using the “like” to signify when they really “dislike” something and it can get confusing since there is only one feature to illustrate contrasting feelings. Until there’s a “dislike” button, if you want to express your agreement or solidarity, a frowny face emoticon will just have to suffice.

 


 


 


 

Misery loves company.

Sometimes it feels good to know you are united with others that share your common, negative, cynical opinions about very significant topics, and sometimes not so important topics. Everything doesn’t always have to be rainbows and dandelions. There are always going to be conflicting perspective and opinions in life. Facebook should get over it.


 

Some outside developers have responded to the pro-Dislike movement. There is now a Facebook “Dislike” button add-on for the Firefox browser. The catch? Only other users of the add-on can see if you’ve Disliked something.

How do I purchase things using my coins?

When you are in the video chat environment you can enter into the interactive menu (by putting your mouse over the right hand side of the video chat) and see the various items mentioned above. As you know, some of them are free while other have a price tag on them which indicates they need to be purchased using coins.

Once clicking on an item with a price tag, a box will open on the left that indicates what type of item it is, the name of the item, as well as the amount of coins needed to purchase it. Once you click on the “add button” you will here a “ch-ching” sound which indicates the item has been purchased successfully.

You will notice that the number of coins you have, has now decreased and the item no longer has a price tag on it.

Do you know how the name 6rounds came about? Well, neither do most people. There’s actually a few versions of the story. But to be honest, that is because there are a few versions of the truth as well.

The conception of our video chat platform was initially focused on speed dating. As the platform grew from a concept to a product and all the different functionalities came about, the founders realized that their offerings suited everyone, not just people that were interested in speed dating. And thus, the video chat platform as you know it today started to form. But what about the name? Why 6rounds?

Well, here are a few of the main reasons:

Since the platform was originally focused on speed dating, the video chat was meant to include six guys and six girls meeting each other one after the other. As you can see, that’s not how things turned out.

You’re familiar with the concept Six Degrees of Separation, right? According to Wikipedia, it’s the idea that no one is more than six steps away from any other person on Earth. This means that a chain of “a friend of a friend” statements can be made to connect any two people in six steps or fewer.

So now does it make sense? Six girls. Six guys. And the Six Degrees of Separation.

But what is a Round? A Round is how we refer to sessions that are being done on our platform. The world is round and we’re connecting people in it. So why didn’t we just call ourselves Rounds in the beginning? Well, to be honest, the domain was taken and up until now we’ve been in beta.

Today however, we’re announcing our change in name from 6rounds to Rounds. Why you ask? Well although we do love the name 6rounds, we are proudly moving our platform out of beta and will even be sharing some exciting news later on today. So stay tunned!

The first thing you might ask yourself when you visit this page is, why do they categorize themselves as a local business? You might think this group isn’t that strange. Overly violent? Sure. In too much of a hurry to get places? Possibly. But strange? We’ve all felt this way, usually around Christmas, usually at the mall. Don’t worry, we’re just easing you into the weirdness.
 

2. I Hate The Sun

And here we are. Feel eased yet? Currently 1,766 people on Facebook hate the sun. The sun. The thing that makes everything bright and, oh, I don’t know, keeps us alive. I get hating heat or sun burns, but the sun? That’s like hating the sky. Some have a legitimate excuse though. There are people that are actually allergic to sunlight, which has to suck worse than anything has ever sucked. But I doubt many people of 1,766 are allergic to sunlight. I counted one.
 

3. Because of Edward Cullen, Human Boys Have Lost Their Charm

This page has 187,297 members. Ew! So, that’s it then, isn’t it? We’ve all just agreed that raising a generation of young woman who idolize about being stalked, emotionally abused, and than abandoned is a good thing. There will be no negative consequences. Good to know.
 

4. The Church Of The Flying Spaghetti Monster

Honestly, this makes more sense to be than nihilism.
 

5. Napkins

This group, like the Grass group, is weird because their topic of interest is so mundane. Napkins? I once had a friend who collected napkins. She was a particularly sad individual. What I find odd is that the Grass group has 21,944 members while Napkins group only has 386. Who has been doing grass’s PR?
 

6. Death

Uh…huh. Personally, I try not to think too much about death. There’s not much point. I’m going to live forever. But for all those mortals out there, you think they would try to avoid the subject. It’s scary! Although the dark attraction to dying could explain the next two pages.
 

7. I Have No Need For Drugs

This group has 63 members.
 

8. Drugs

And this one has 22,684. Maybe this isn’t a fair comparison, but, have you been to a college campus lately?
 

9. I Was Amazed When I Saw The lol Looked Like A Drowning Man

I have no idea what this page is even-oh, I just saw it!
 

10. Panicking When Your Finger Gets Stuck In Something Stupid

On the one hand, I’ve gotten my finger stuck before and is embarrassing. On the other, the title of this page could be taken in a very wrong way.

Really? Why? How would having two messages be less nerve racking than have one? Has this become the phone call in the middle of the night?

The “Oops, did I do that?”

This is the most common type of fail – one based on some sort of mistake like a typo. There is generally some kind of sexual innuendo involved but any kind of socially awkward blunder will usually suffice:

The “Parents Just Don’t Understand”

 

Studies have shown that after raising children to the age where they understand what their parents did to get them, parents don’t serve much of a purpose aside from being shocked at the fact that their offspring have grown up. However on Facebook their role morphs into something else entirely which is almost exclusively attached to public embarrassment.

The “All Teachers Should be Fired. Now.”

Certainly not so catchy but it sums up this category rather well. People who are educated enough to know how to operate a computer and understand written language and yet still display such a lack of general knowledge are more than likely not to blame. It has to be the teachers and the system.

It's safe to assume that the 8 year old also typed in the status as well.

The “Oh Snap!”

This category is more difficult to deal with because the fail is caused by someone else that one might eventually be confronted with IRL. While the virtual confrontation can be removed from the user’s wall, the awkwardness still remains.

Farmville is serious business, all personal grudges are shoved aside.

The “Sidelined Player”

This specific type of fail is usually caused by overconfidence. Someone assured that they will benefit from a favourable mating experience is suddenly unsuccessful and then left even more embarrassed due to said overconfidence turning out to be premature.

Well, he could consider being single as an Open Relationship with the world. See, there's always a bright side.

The “Nobody Needed to Know That…”

This category comes from the people who update their status so frequently that the second anything remarkable happens they tend to put it out there: to the point where distinguishing private matters from public matters becomes difficult.

Well, position matters you know.

The “Don’t You Want Me Baby?”

This fail wears down the failer’s self-esteem. It is usually some sort of rejection that suggests that this person is not worthy as a mate.

Who said romance was dead? This guy is saying the right things at the right time.

Remember in the Betty White article I said that if you have an interest in something, there are probably others out there who have a similar interest? You might have not believed me, thinking: “Well, sure, Betty White is a national treasure, it’s no surprise so many people are interested in her. Nobody could ever understand my paranoid relationship with lawn gnomes.” You’d be wrong. It’s the internet! No matter how strange it is, there’s a Facebook page for it.

Below are some of the strangest Facebook pages I could find:

1) I Hate It When My Home Is Raided By Homicidal Lawn Gnomes At 3 AM

We all hate Garden Gnomes. There just plain creepy. But this page takes it further by insisting that Garden Gnomes are merciless forces of evil set upon this earth as the scourge of humanity. Keep in mind that there are nearly 5,000 members to this group. That’s like a small town getting together to discuss gnomes. There is a lively debate on the page about which kind of Garden Gnome is worse: the homicidal ones that drag your children off in the middle of the night, or the suicidal ones that place themselves behind your car and ruin your perfectly good tires. I vote for the annoying ones that appear in travel agency commercials.

2) Grass

When I say grass, I’m not talking about the drug you used to smoke in your friend’s basement before freaking out that his parents will smell it. I talking about plain old grass. The stuff that grows everywhere. I don’t think I’ve ever had a conscious thought about grass before, except “Oh my God, I have to cut it again!” But these people really love it. From their info page: “This is a Facebook group dedicated to the preservation of grass and it’s right to grace the soil of this earth. And also, we really like to talk about it and how awesome it is.” They are even pushing “Grass Day” a type of holiday to celebrate the green miracle. That may seem weird, but so does Arbour Day. The membership for this page is off the charts, with over 21,000 fans. We’ve gone from a small town getting together to talk about malevolent gnomes, to a small city getting together to talk about grass.

3) Spencer Pratt

God, probably by mentioning his name I’m summoning him to the comment section. Alright, everyone get out their wooden stakes. If you don’t know who Spencer Pratt is, congratulations, you’ve lead a better existence than most. He’s a fame whore, an obnoxious one at that. His point is…well, I’m not sure what he thinks his point is, but for the rest of the world, it’s to be someone to hate. And we all really, really hate him. Hitler’s grandchildren have a better reputation. So what’s so strange about him having a Facebook page? It’s the fact that his Facebook page is a fan page. Around 80,000 people, all thinking Spencer Pratt is the man. It just does to show you, if you have an opinion on something, even if it’s plain wrong, other people share it.

4) I Need To Sneeze (Pull Strange Looking Face) It’s Gone

After the last page, to reaffirm my belief in humanity, I vowed to find a page more pointless than Spencer Pratt with more fans. And I did! Not sneezing! Isn’t it…great? Over 83,000 people enjoy the act of not sneezing so much they decided to share it with their friends and family. I’m not sure how much you can talk about not sneezing. I’m writing an article about it and I’m quickly running out of ideas. Although, it does seem kind of unfair that grass, a vital part of our ecosystem, only gets a quarter of fans that not sneezing does.

5) I Thought It Was Funny Until Someone I Hate Laughed At It

Welcome to the bottom of the barrel my friends. We’ve officially entered the abstract section of Facebook pages. What does this one even mean? Is this some kind of common phenomenon in socializing that I’m not aware of? It must be because over 300,000 people have joined. Have I been walking through the human experience with only the faintest grasp of the emotions of people around me? I’m going to say no, since most of the conversation on its wall seems to be about music and what words “ass” is apart of.

6) I Read The Group Name, I Laugh, I Join, I Never Look At It Again

That just really says it all, doesn’t it? In fact, I like this group page so much, I just might join it.

The Facebook status update can be many things. For some Facebookers, it is an opportunity to share life’s successes and failures (“I got the job!” or “Broke my leg snowboarding”). One can also use the status update to promote a personal artistic or business endeavor or to raise awareness about some important cause. Other Facebookers like to use the status update to compulsively vent about political issues, traffic, customer service and/or stupid people. But in my humble opinion, the Facebook status update is best used to be a smart-ass.

There are a list of obvious things that make Facebook great. Connecting with friends, uploading photos, addictive games, yada yada yada. But one of the best things about Facebook doesn’t often appear on the list. That would be the apps. Some of the apps make your life a little easier, some are informative, and some are fun distractions. Here’s a list of great apps that you might not have used:

Sketch Me

Sketch Me takes your profile picture and turns it into a pencil sketch. It’s cool if you’re getting bored with all your old pics, or are just one of those rare few who looked better in ashen grey.

IQ Test

There’s a lot debate about how accurate IQ tests really are at measuring a person’s intelligence (you can be a musical genius and not know a damn thing about math) but it’s still fun to see how you measure up by the “normal” standards. Facebook’s IQ Test gives you a set amount of time to answer some challenging questions, and then you get your score. Anything over a 100 is something to be proud of.

Daily Horoscope

Remember when you had to rifle though the newspaper for your horoscope? How primitive can you get? The Daily Horoscope app delivers your message from the great beyond right to your Facebook account. Now you’ll be able to find out if today is a good day to go for that raise without getting ink on your hands.

iLike Concerts

A must have app for any music junkie, the iLike Concerts app gives you a listing of all the live music that’s going to be performed anytime soon. You can check out when your favorite band is coming near you or find something to do on a boring night.

Quiz Monster

Quizzes are pretty fun, but sometimes you would like to take one that asks questions that relates more to yourself. Quiz Monster allows you to create your own quizzes and share them with friends and family. Find out whether anyone really listens to what you say.

Books

Books is a great application for any literary fan. They give you a check list of books you’ve read, a to-do list of books you are going to read, and the ability to check out your friends library. You can also write reviews and make recommendations, possibly saving another soul from the horror of Twilight.

Family Feud

The classic game show has finally come to a computer near you. Everyone knows the rules to Family Feud. You try to guess what a 100 people said as they answered the survey questions. Earn big bucks and try to beat the timer, and you don’t even have to get felt up by Richard Dawson to do it.

Typing Test

Typing Test is a great way to find out how many words you can type per minute or to try and improve you current speed. Are you a hunter and pecker? Do you use only your index fingers while scanning the keyboard for the next letter? A couple of minutes a day with this app could improve that.

Tarot

Tarot cards are what fortune-tellers use to divine your future. You’ve seen them before, cards with the pictures of death, except death isn’t actually a bad thing. Now you don’t have to go to your local physic or buy your own pack to get a reading.

Pittsburgh Steelers

I’m not a big sports fan. Kind of hate sports actually. But I know I’m kind of alone on this, so I thought I should include one sports app. And in honor of my brother, I chose the Pittsburgh Steelers. Test your friends to see who knows more about the team. Not a Steelers fan? I don’t care. There’s an app for every team.

Bingo!

Bingo! Not just for little old ladies anymore. You can play real time Bingo against your friends and family or complete strangers, without dragging yourself to the local church basement.

Drink It Up

I’m not going to judge your life here or anything, but if you are spending your time playing virtual Bingo, maybe you should consider drinking more? It gets even better. Drink It Up!

The more FB friends you have the more puzzling, ridiculous or even stupid content you might be likely to come across. This is because as your network grows you are including less and less people that you would spend an endless amount of time with – you know ‘Friends’ – and more and more acquaintances. Another means of showing your personality is Feeder FM that allows you to share the music you are currently listening to on Facebook.
 

Professional

If you would like to use Facebook in a business-like manner there are several places that you can go to – and this list is certainly not exhaustive, simply a sample of what is to be found out there in Internetland. You can hire people to do it for you on Social Cubix or use application like Pagemodo to make pages, Facebook Tabsite to customize your page’s tabs and Root Music to create a fan page for musicians.
 

Security

For those who were shaken by the recent privacy scare related to Facebook, there are sites out there with your interests at heart. Privacy Defender and Sophos are examples of places where you can adjust your privacy settings or learn best practices without navigating all the corners on the Facebook website to find what you are looking for.
 

FB IRL

Pixable is means of taking your Facebook photos off-line in order to create a real photo album on this old-school means of recording things called “Paper” or something. Apparently our ancestors used things called pens and pencils to draw dinosaurs on there or something – the details are all very fuzzy. However, if you like vintage stuff, you can use Pixable to go from digital to analogue.
 

Jargon & Information

Here on 6rounds we talk a lot of about Facebook. The various apps, how it can be used to connect to your friends and family, the funniest postings, the different kinds of users, and so on. A lot of this is stuff you might have already know about. For this blog posting I thought it would be fun to talk about the weird stuff about Facebook you might not know about. Facebook is gigantic, with hundred of millions of users, and millions more joining daily. You know when that many people get together there’s got to be some strangeness going on somewhere. It’s human nature. It’s why The Waltons and Full House isn’t an accurate depiction of the world. So here are some weird facts about Facebook you might not have known. Some of them are funny, some of them are surprising and some are just…weird.
 

A Ton Of Countries Ban Facebook

We all take the internet for granted. It’s hard not to. You double click and you have the entire world at your fingers, with its millions of opinions and ideas. If you wanted to you could change the world, but…meh, that seems like a lot of work, and you don’t want to miss the newest LOLcats. The thing is, for a lot of countries that kind of freedom is scary, and places like China, Pakistan, Syria, Vietnam, and Iran have chosen to deny their citizens access to his kind of unity and information. These countries rule through oppression and silencing free speech, so something like Facebook, where you can organize protests, share opinions on restrictions, spread information on unjust laws, and generally question the government, is a dangerous thing to the current regime. And they are right to be afraid. The Soviet Union fell when the press became uncensored and newspapers started to show citizens that things sucked all over. So the next time you idly surf all your friend’s wall, maybe stop to think how lucky you are. If you‘re interested, you can join the protest to stop these countries from denying people their God given rights.
 

You’re Fired!

The days of your private life automatically being separate from your job are gone. You might never think too much about it, but if you have a Facebook account, your employer has access to far more information about you than a job interview could ever give. And if you ask people who suddenly became unemployed because of this, you might not think that’s a good thing. Just look at ex-New England Patriots Cheerleader Caitlin Davis. She thought it would be funny to draw swastikas on her passed out friend and then post them on Facebook. Do you know who didn’t find it funny? Everyone else. For some strange reason, the Patriots did love the idea of being associated with Nazism and she was quickly fired. Of course, she was a public figure. That could never happen to someone like you, with a nine to five job, could it? Holy hell, could it ever. There’s the waitress who was fired because of her complaining on Facebook about a bad tipper. A teacher was fired because her profile picture showed her surrounded by beer mugs and wine glasses. A teenage office worker was fired because she posted about being bored at work. And it goes on and on. What’s the lesson here? Don’t friend your boss! And make sure your privacy settings are air tight.
 

Facebook Has Its Own Disorder

Yes, this is a real thing. It’s called “Facebook Addiction Disorder.” It’s “diagnosed” (if that’s the right word) in people who spend an above average amount of time on Facebook. You might have the disorder if you 1) Spend a great deal of time on Facebook, more so every day, and have multiple windows open at once. 2) When you are away from Facebook for a noticeable amount of time you start to get nervous and obsess about what’s written on your wall 3) A lot of your social interactions happen on Facebook. Instead of sending an email or calling someone up you post something on your wall. To be fair though, everything is addictive nowadays, and it’s not like spending a lot of time playing Farmville will give you cancer or anything. Just, you know, maybe take a step outside every now and then.
 

What Do You Think You’re Doing With That Baby?

Mothers breastfeeding their child is billions of years old, but that doesn’t mean Facebook wants to see it. Specifically, they don’t want to see a woman’s nipple. They believe it’s “obscene.” A great many woman’s activist groups have protest this move, petitioning Facebook to stop deleting photos depicting woman feeding their child. I don’t want to get in the middle of it, because I can sort of see both sides. I think uploading a picture of breastfeeding is kind of strange and not something everyone wants to see, but I would hardly call it obscene. If that’s what you want on your account, than hey, got nuts. An interesting twist on this fact is the male artist who created a painting of himself using his nipples. It was deleted.
 

The Facebook Guy

If you were connected to the site before its major redesign, you may remember the “Facebook Guy.” He was the face of a man in the top left corner, partially obscured by binary. Who was he? Well, up until recently, no one had a clue. It turns out it was a manipulated photo of Al Pacino. Mark Zuckerberg, the creator, is a huge movie fan. So…the more you know.
 

Facebook Could’ve Been The Next Napster

One of the earliest features of the sight was it’s peer-to-peer capabilities. You could share music, movies, TV shows, and games through the program called “Wirehog.” Zuckerberg once said he thought Wirehog was going to be one of the main attractions of thefacebook (that’s what it was called back then. Not very pithy.) Unfortunately, peer-to-peer sharing is extremely illegal and steps on all sort of copy right laws, so Wirehog was axed before the site went big. On the one hand, it’s a pity that we can’t share our new Justin Bieber CD with the entire world. On the other hand, if Facebook did support file sharing it would’ve been shut down a long time ago.

As our team soon found, this really is not an easy task. The Marshmallow Challenge is used by organizations and corporations far and wide. It is also used in kindergarden classrooms. So do you think the results would be more successful at a Fortune 500 company or in Miss Honey’s classroom? This seems reminiscent of an “Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader” episode, but yes the kids solutions are a lot more successful. Here is Tom Wujec, the creator of this exercise, explaining how it works and why the results are this way:

 
Lets take a look at how our 6rounds teams did:
 

Group 1

As you can see Group 1 went for a triangle base, but that was about as far as they ever got.
 

Group 2

Group 2 went for a more vertical approach and aimed high!
 

Group 3

Group 3 opted to use the triangle base also, but their structure progressed a lot faster than the others.
 

Group 4

Group 4 hoped that a strong and fastened base would beat out the tall structures in the end.

Does anyone want to guess which team got the marshmallow to balance on the top? Well if you guessed none of the groups, you should have more faith in us… but you were also right! Waiting until the last minute to add the marshmallow sent all of the structures toppling over.

Benny Lava

The work that comes out of Bollywood is amazing. The movement, the colours, the scenery, the music; it all comes together to form a story complimented by very dramatic and inventive camera zooms. Also great: poking fun at other cultures while celebrating your own ignorance. This video walks that line with pride and skill. The result is a highly entertaining video that puts a smile on the stiffest person’s face.

Benelax ripped off this film and decided to subtitle the lyrics to clarify what the singers must be saying. The result: hilarity. Benny Lava is an enjoyable piece on its own – certainly. But I have to admit that I would vote for the subtitled version every time if I had to.
Why it’s a good rip off:
Because of the inventive use of subtitles. Good ideas should always be rewarded.
 

Total Eclipse of the Heart

When it comes to Literal Videos, you have to put a few important ingredients together in order to get quality rip-offage.
Step 1: Popular song that is not old enough to not have a music video to accompany it, of course, but not new enough for most people to know more than a few lines out of the chorus that they sing very loudly before filtering off into mumbles and hums.
Step 2: Ridiculous visual content, the more nonsensical the better – this is where your lyrics will be coming from. When in doubt, check the ’80s.
Step 3: Don’t do your warm-up vocals for this, it ain’t about talent. One could even go as far as saying that the aim it to actually sneer at talent and berate it while still keeping a decent rhyme structure.
This music video from Bonny Tyler is already so weird that nothing could make it weirder other than a person narrating just how weird it is. Bonny must have been hopped up on something really strong and this video only makes that trip more hilarious.
Why it’s a good rip off:
It takes something crazy and makes it even crazier by simply pointing and saying: Gee, isn’t that odd?
 

 

AutoTune The News

The news is boring. The news is depressing. It talks about things that really matter, uses big words and doesn’t have any jokes – it’s as if they don’t want viewers. Take all that negative energy and the only way to balance that scale of gloom and doom is to put AutoTune on the other side: because AutoTune makes everything awesome. So if you’re going to take other people’s stuff – namely their image and voices in this case – then you have to make sure you put out something pretty fantastic. And that’s why the Gregory Brothers try to do.
Why it’s a good rip off:
Cause everything sounds better AutoTuned.

JaboOody Dubs

These guys are really rude but I adore their videos, always pretty funny even if a lot of the humour is derived from slightly juvenile stuff. They dub over infomercials so Billy Mays was the source of their wealth until his death. They still do dubs but you should check out their older videos.
Why it’s a good rip off:
Because most infomercials are pretty ridiculous anyway so one step further can’t hurt. Ever seen those actors getting stressed out by average, everyday appliances and solutions that the rest of us get by just fine with? “Oh this doorknob is so slippery, I can’t open it! If only there were some device being mass-produced that could help me!” – so convincing.
 

Alex Day reads Twilight

Everybody is obsessed with Twilight, Robert Pattinson’s jawline and Kirsten Stewart’s blinking (sorry to mention it but once someone pointed it out it became like mentioning “The Game,” it’s all you think about.) Alex Day, a popular YouTuber has taken it upon himself to read the famous series and as he does he films it and puts together a video of his comments and thoughts. Speaking as someone who had once been a part of the hype when the series was more lowkey, then growing up to find the whole thing kind of unhealthy, these videos are not only funny but give a lot of perspective.
Why it’s a good rip off:
Cause it’s fun to play “Hipster” and despise whatever the masses like. Also he takes a melodrama and turns it into a comedy.
 

 

The Ricky Gervais Show Animations

Even before they got an animated series on HBO youtubers had been busy animating the Ricky Gervais podcast series. With Karl’s visual descriptions it’s pretty easy to amplify the hilarity of the podcast with images.
 
Why it’s a good rip-off
Because while it may be fun to imagine what Karl’s face would look like as he said some ridiculous fallacy, it’s even better to have a image of it.

Dancing Baby

The granddaddy of all internet memes. To be fair, it didn’t originate on Youtube, since it was created in 1996, while the internet was still in its infancy stage. It spread widely via emails. Now, I’m not sure if it was the first internet meme ever (information from that ancient time is sketchy, and best left to the archaeologists) but it was one of the first ones to break through the cyber world into the real world. It was featured on Ally McBeal (remember that show? It was about a single career woman making it on her own. Remember when every show wasn’t a single career woman making it on her own?) and became a phenomenon. Without this poorly rendered dancing baby, memes as we know them might not even exist.
 

All Your Base Are Belong To Us

That grammatically murdered sentence comes from the Sega Saturn game “Zero Wing.”  It was originally a Japanese game, and in 1991 it was translated for an European audience. Now, I’m no translator, and I get that Japanese is a tough language, but how can someone write that phrase out, think it’s correct, and still get paid? That’s not even the only mistranslation, and maybe not the worst, but it was the one that caught on. In 2000-2002 it spread quickly, becoming a popular saying on T-Shirts. On April 1st, 2003, it caused panic in a city called Sturgis, Michigan. In an April fools joke, 20 signs with the phrase written on them were placed all around the town, and people thought it was a terrorist threat. When an internet meme comes under police investigation, you know it has made it.
 

Star Wars Kid

Aww…this one is kind of sad. Imagine if something stupid you did when you were a teenager followed you around for the rest of your life. How badly would that suck? Well, I can’t do anything about it, so I might as well point and laugh. A long long time ago (2002) in a galaxy far, far away (Canada) a kid decided it would be fun to video tape himself using a golf ball retriever as a light saber. We’ve all done something similar. I used to pretend I was the Blue Power Ranger. Luckily, I never taped myself, and I never left the tape in my school’s basement. Star Wars Kid did, and a few of his classmates found it. Because teenagers are the meanest creatures in existence, they uploaded it, and the rest is history. Star Wars Kid has been spoofed on Arrested Development, American Dad and South Park to name a few, proving once and for all Star Wars ruins lives.
 

Numa Numa

This meme is less sad because the guy obviously wanted the attention. In 2004, Gary Brolsma released of video of him lip syncing and dancing…kind of, to the song Dragostea din tei. It not only spread, it became one of the most spoofed videos on the internet. The Believer, an American magazine about literature, says the video single-handedly justifies the existence of webcams. When was the last time you single-handedly justified the existence of something? I thought so.
 

Leeroy Jenkins

Or “Leeeeeeroy Jeeeeeenkins”, is a famous meme among gamers, especially World of Warcraft fans. The video is of a group of people playing WoW and planning an attack like it was World War 2. Leeroy, probably sick of listening to statistics and minute details, just decides to throw caution to the wind and fight. He promptly gets everyone killed, but not before yelling the famous battle cry: “Leeeeeeeroy Jeeeeeeeenkins.” It’s kind of like Braveheart, if Braveheart had a different ending and the cause was kind of pointless. It became so famous, World of Warcraft actually named an accomplishment after him. Later, it was discovered the whole thing was fake, but hey, it was funny, so who cares?
 

Rickroll

Ugh…no meme list would be complete without Rickroll. Ever go on Youtube and look for a video you couldn’t find anywhere else? Ever become so excited and then, suddenly, 30 seconds in a stupid, annoying music video from the 80’s starts playing? You’ve just been Rickroll’D. Don’t worry, you’re still smarter than the person who made the video. The original song “Never Going To Give You Up” was recorded in the late 80’s, and it possibly one of the worst popular songs ever made. Luckily, for a long time everyone forgot about it, until a certain website started “rickrolling” people in 2007. Why? They thought it was funny. And maybe it was the first time. Hey, maybe it was the 500th time. But before long Youtube was swamped with Rickroll videos, and we all had the suffer. This meme has left a trail of innocent computers broken by their owners. A tip: if you’re going to create a meme, don’t make it the worst thing ever.

I’m not one of those guys who, when they play a crappy game, goes “ah…I could’ve made something better in my sleep.” Creating anything is tough work, and I think games are the toughest medium of all. For most games (lets ignore sports games and classic Nintendo games for the purpose of this article) to be successful they need to meet three criteria: 1) A solid plot with relatable and memorable characters 2) Graphics that are as good, if not better than their competition 3) Fun game play that doesn’t become boring but also isn’t too complex. If you fail at just one of these objectives, you’re dead in the water. Sure, you can have a great story with amazing graphics, but if no one can figure out how to play the damn thing, who cares? And since the time of Super Nintendo, we usually demand some kind of story to go with our games. That’s why even though the game I get with my Happy Meal may suck, I know my effort would be worse. But there are fans out there with some real talent and a passion for games, and sometimes that passion and talent lead to a fan made game. Usually the fan made games are only okay, but sometimes they’re just as good as a team of paid develops could make. Games like:
 

Chrono Trigger: Crimson Echoes

Chrono Trigger was an RPG for the Super Nintendo. It was about a boy named Crono, his brainy best friend, and a feisty princess being thrown through time. Along the way they are confronted with the apocalypse, caused by an alien named Lavos, and have to choose whether to go back to their time and live happily, or risk their lives and save the world from a threat that won’t happen for thousands of years. Because they’re heroes, they chooses the latter. With its three dimensional characters, shocking plot twists, and clever side quests, Chrono Trigger ranks high on most “Best Games” lists, which goes to show graphics aren’t everything. Since it’s release, fans have been clamouring for a sequel, and we finally got one called Chrono Cross. Unfortunately, it was a sequel in name only, with only vague references to past characters and locations. People were disappointed, and with the odds of another sequel getting slimmer every year, some fans took it into their own hands, creating Crimson Echoes. The game is a direct sequel, with the same characters and locations. The designers could only use the same graphics that appeared in Trigger, which could’ve made the game dull, but instead made it on par with the original. With sensible character development, new twists on time traveling, a fantastic new villain, and a heartbreaking ending, any Trigger fan would die to play this game. Unfortunately, Squaresoft sent a cease and desist order when Crimson Echoes was 2% away from being completed. Fortunately, you can watch the whole thing on Youtube, and vigorously petition Squaresoft.
 

Super Mario Bros: Revenge of Bowser

Super Mario is a classic franchise that still remains popular today, so it’s pretty hard to top the legitimate games. Not that people haven’t tried. Not that a lot of people haven’t tried. The results have varied, but some excellent counterfeits have emerged, one of them being Revenge of Bowser. The reason Revenge of Bowser stands above the crowd is the way it was designed. It wasn’t a whole new Mario game, it was the best of all the Mario games smashed into one. You have the classic mushrooms, the rarely seen enemies from the second game, the warp whistle, the frog suit, and even some voice acting. Sometimes the best results don’t come from your own genius, but a bunch of other people’s geniuses mixed together. Warning though, I’ve heard this game is unbelievably hard, so prepared to be frustrated.
 

Final Fantasy 7: NES

Final Fantasy 7 is often called the best RPG of all time. The plot is unbelievably dense and anything less than a full page summary would leave you confused and bothered. Quick version: Boy tries to save world, hijinks ensue. Final Fantasy 7 really stands out for two reasons. It featured cutscenes, which was a novelty back in the day, and (SPOILERS!!!) a main character was brutally murdered halfway through the game, which was unheard of when Final Fantasy 7 first came out. The NES version is less of a remake and more a “demake.” A bunch of Chinese developers want to see if they could fit Final Fantasy’s 3 disc Sony Playstation game into a Nintendo game. It worked! And bonus: a fun game was made. It’s in Chinese, but an English patch is rumored to be floating around somewhere.
 

Sonic the Hedgehog: Retro Sonic XG

Sonic has been going through a bit of an identity crisis lately. For some reason his games have been less about breakneck speed, and more about werewolves, and princesses, and guns. To put it bluntly, the general consensus is that Sonic sucks now. Which is sad, because back in the day he was close to being the most popular character in gaming history. With his lovable sidekick and levels that passed by so fast you barely knew what was happening, everyone loved Sonic. With Retro Sonic XG you can return to that simpler, better time. There’s no werewolves and no princesses, just golden rings and the feeling you might be getting a little sick.
 

Chrono Resurrection

It may seem weird that I’m putting two Chrono Trigger games up here. Or, I should say, it may seem weird to anyone who has never played Chrono Trigger. Fans will understand right away why Trigger is so beloved and so many people dedicated to continuing the franchise. Resurrection is different from Crimson Echoes because it’s not a sequel, but a remake. And, from the looks of it, the best remake ever conceived by man. I said graphics aren’t everything and I stand by that. If you have a solid story with strong characters, you can get by on mediocre graphics. But…did you look at that demo up there? Holy Gods! Exploring the different variations of the Chrono world is 3-D could’ve been amazing. Chrono Trigger has some classic scenes that have become a source of nostalgia for an entire generation (the black wind blows.) Now imagine seeing those same scenes in that kind of detail. It would’ve been mind blowing. But it was too good for this world, and once again Squaresoft sent out a cease and desist order. Given the amount of effort that was put into Resurrection, that’s almost criminal. Sigh…I’m starting to depress myself here. Lets move onto a game you can actually play.
 

Super Mario Crossover

I don’t care if you’ve only played on video game in your life, if you think they are nerdy, if you think they’re a gigantic waste of time, you will love Super Mario Crossover. It is like Christmas, your birthday, Halloween, Easter, and your wedding all rolled into one. The game is set in the Mario world, but you can play as six classic characters, all with there own skills and abilities. The characters are Mario, Link, Bill R. (from Contra), Simon (from Castlevania), Megaman, and Samus. Mario is the only character who can run, and he can also shoot fireballs once he gets the flower (although I’m not sure why you would play Crossover as Mario.) Link has his sword and boomerang to take out the Kooplas. Bill R can shoot in multiple directions and can get a pretty sweet power up. Simon seems to have the most skills, as he has his whip, can double jump, and throw axes once he gets a mushroom or flower. Megaman (my personal favorite) has his cannon blaster and can slide. Samus also had a blaster, with the added addition of bombs. What could make Mario better? Guns!
 

Pokemon Emerald 386

Pokemon may seem like a childish game, but it’s actually really fun, no matter how old you are. Sure, the storyline isn’t exactly HBO quality, and it might be difficult for some people to understand the simple joy of catching bastardized versions of real life animals and forcing them to fight with their magical powers, but there’s a reason about 20 Pokemon games have been made. It’s escapism at its best. The only problem I can find with the games is the way they’re designed. Certain Pokemon aren’t available in every game…actually, most Pokemon aren’t available in every game. You are supposed to trade with your friends, but where exactly is a 20-something supposed to find people to trade with Pokemon with? 386 does what we wish every game would, allowing us to capture every Pokemon available (at least up to that point.) You can finally have all the starters (yay!) and don’t have to suffer through all the lame Pokemon you catch in the beginning. Also, it’s a little harder, which is nice.
