We’ve all been there – Dad calls on Saturday with the annual “friendly reminder” that Mothers day is on Sunday, and the panic starts in! Thoughts of ideas flow through your mind and the desperate yearly meeting takes place between the siblings. “What on Earth didn’t we get her yet!?” As you brainstorm ideas for the coveted perfect gift, here is a list of the top 10 things to absolutely not get your Mom this Mother’s Day!

1. Sexy Lingerie

Everyone wants his or her mom to be sexy and make her feel good about herself. But this is the kind of present you should leave to your dad. On top of that I think you will just embarrass your mom more than please her.

2. Anti-aging products

Forget it! Don’t buy her that! Most likely she will take it badly by thinking she should take better care of herself and that she is aging… Wrinkles are a woman’s biggest fear!

3. Cookbook

Moms are supposed to be the best cooks. Do you really want to make her feel as if her food isn’t good enough? Not on Mother’s Day! Thinking that another cook is better than her!

4. Flowers

Unless the flowers come with a gardener and a garden, don’t buy flowers as a gift. Flowers only last a week anyways. Is your mother only your mother for a week? I don’t think so.

5. A Ceramic from Color Me Mine

Are you 5? I mean how many ceramic cups and bowls that say “#1 MOM” or “Worlds Greatest Mom” can you possibly make? It usually gets placed in the back of the cabinet and never to be seen again.

As much as our mothers love to know how highly we think of them as mothers, there is no need to go and print it on a t-shirt or on a mug… it is simply a waste of money. Do you really think she will wear that T-shirt?

She maybe thinks it’s comfortable, but you don’t want your mom to walk around looking that! So spare yourself some embarrassing moments and get her something else!

8. Fruit or Other Edible Basket

Just don’t do it. I mean lets fact it, mothers are always on a diet; fruits have a lot of sugar, and chocolate is a big no-no. But if you insist on the idea, then you should make the basket yourself, this way the gift shows love and effort.

9. Coupons

A coupon, really? Especially if it’s a coupon for cleaning products or household items and supplies. You know what your mom would rather? She would rather you use them to go and get the cleaning products and put them to use. This way she can wake up to a clean house on Mother’s Day as opposed to a coupon.

If your mom is looking a bit bitter lately don’t think that a vibrator would be the solution. This can just bring more problems…

However, read this first and decide to not get ANY of these things for your special friend, unless you want to be spending the rest of the night alone.

Love Coupons

While this may seem sweet to you, not to mention $free$, to the recipient it says “CRAP I totally forgot about Valentines Day, let me make them coupons for things I should already be doing anyway!”

Stuffed Animal

Unless you’re dating a 12 year old, please leave the teddy bears and other animals on the shelf.

Game Console

Even if you’re S.O. is a total gamer, you shouldn’t be spending the day of love playing video games!

Dinner @ a Sports Bar

Yes, sports bars can have great food, who doesn’t love wings? But on Valentines Day, no! Step up your game a bit and either go somewhere that requires reservations, or make a great meal at home!

This is worse that the love coupons, because it’s desperately obvious that you a)forgot b)have no idea what to get the person c)a combination of the two that will get you into trouble.

Honestly, if you have $10,000 to spend on a proposal, do not BLOW it on Pizza Hut’s package. I don’t care if you met a Pizza Hut or had your first date there (shame on you if that’s the case). A limo + greasy chain pizza + a ruby engagement ring = confused lady friend. Take your $10,000 and plan something out that is truly special.

Now I know I’ve knocked the lazy last minute gifts, but seriously, they are better than nothing. Don’t give her an I.O.U card or simply nothing at all unless you want her to dump you. And if you do want the relationship to end, step up and end it yourself far in advance of Valentines Day!

The 15 Best Musical Films

Musical films are definitely an acquired taste. While some prefer the singing and dancing to stop, some of us just love a good musical number! They can be action packed, thrillers, or just plain old musical fun. Here are some of our favorites, in no particular order!

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Baber of Fleet Street

The gripping story of the Demon Barber, Sweeney Todd was brought to life very well with the suitably creepy Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter and Alan Rickman. The musical score is very catchy and the film also has a grittiness to it. One of the darkest plots of this list, Sweeny Todd proves that musicals aren’t all sunshine and puppies!

The Sound of Music

One of the most famous musicals ever, this classic tale of the Von Trapp family and their teacher has become the standard. With great songs like Do-Re-Mi and My Favorite things, it’s hard to find someone whose never heard of this great flick.

My Fair Lady

Referred to as the perfect musical, Bernard Shaw’s Pygmalion brought to screen with the amazing Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady. Truly a classic, Hepburn shines in the title role. The movie is funny, heart warming, and full of great songs, what’s not to love.

Mary Poppins

The collision of cartoon and film made this film particularly magical. We also just can’t get enough of Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke in this Disney classic. What child didn’t want Mary Poppins as their nanny either? A spoonful of sugar, yes please!

The Little Shop of Horrors

Crazy, creepy, quirky and fun, The Little Shop of Horrors is the story of a carnivorous plant that doesn’t just settle for flies and moths. The idea of horror combined with comedy and music is awesome and makes the film a great deal of fun to watch.

Annie

The charming tale of the orphan Annie is heartwarming, funny, and has great music to beat. Carol Burrnett and Tim Curry make for a fantastic antagonists as the horrible Miss and Rooster Hannigan while plays Albert Finney a great grumpy Daddy Warbucks. With an awesome cast and even better musical score, Annie is definitely one of the classics.

The Rocky Horror Show

Raunchy, daring, weird and cult-forming, this film has the longest running theatre release where fans would come, sing along and join in on the action through costume and commentary. Watching this film became a community activity for many of the youth of the time.

Singin’ in the Rain

Though it received low response upon its release, this film has now been ranked by many critics as one of the best musicals since. Starring Gene Kelly and Debbie Reynolds, Singin in the Rain has been named the #1 musical and its songs are equally as revered.

Moulin Rouge

A love story between a poet and cabaret dancer, this film received 8 Oscar nominations, and brought us an incredible soundtrack. Who would have guessed that Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor could really sing?

Grease

Who doesn’t know at least one song from this film? Grease has established itself as one of THE musicals and it’s so fun to watch over and over again! We also get to see John Travolta before he became a crazy scientologist and lost his hair.

Westside Story

Westside Story is a modern interpretation of Romeo and Julliet. Depicting New York gangs through dance, the thugs are less intimidating and more entertainment for an octogenarian dinner party. Still, the content and score marked a turn in American musical theatre and has become a standard for Broadway auditions and high school plays.

The King and I

Exploring culture, clashes and the idea of Barbarism versus ‘civilized’ behavior, the film is joyful, shocking, funny, heartwarming and sad.

The Wizard of Oz

Telling the fairytale of L. Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Judy Garland bring the character Dorothy to life with infinite charm. Another one of those movies that you can’t believe if someone hasn’t seen, Oz has become iconic and its music, adored.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (1971)

A trippy journey through the loopy Willy Wonka’s factory, this film has some of the most fun characters and visually stunning sets of this list. Now a cult favorite, this film has earned its spot as a top musical as well as a creepy remake with Johnny Depp.

Chicago

A sassy, jazzy romp, Chicago mixes crime, romance and music to create thrilling plot. It’s fun to see some of Hollywood’s biggest stars take on the iconic roles as well, lighting up the screen with great songs and dance.

Fun Holiday Drinking Games

We really love our drinking games here at Rounds and thought we’d put together a list of fun holiday themed games to get you through the holidays.

Politically Incorrectness

To start us off with a bang, this game requires some drinking in public, which let’s be real, if you’ve been to a mall anytime in December, drinking heavily is preferable. Bring your flask, drink of choice, and a good friend. Whenever you hear “Merry Christmas!”, one of you drinks. The other drinks when someone says “Happy holidays!”. While you can also play at home and call stores, it’s slightly more fun to do this in public. You’ll know to bring the game to an end when you risk getting cited for public drunkenness.

This game is all about the wacky and wildly inappropriate members of your family. Grab your cousin or equally disgusted relative, a tall glass of eggnog, and chose your target. Each time they make a sweeping racist statement, jokes, or defend their flawed logic, take a swig! Extra points for throwing out an “oriental” or other outdated racial slurs. If you’re feeling extra saucy, and have enough crazy in your family, choose 2 relatives that embarrass the hell out of you.

Farrginay offers two types of “bacon-inspired” perfume. Even if your lady loves bacon, I highly doubt she wants to smell like it. Don’t get her this. Even as a gag gift. Save the $36 and put it towards a much better gift.

“Captain Planet, he’s our hero, gonna take pollution down to zero!” Ahead of it’s time on the climate issue, Captain Planet made caring about the environment cool! Plus, they had awesome rings and a really great theme song.

Animaniacs

Animaniacs was wonderful. An homage to the Three Stooges, this show had great music, had separate story lines and a wide variety of well-written characters. A fan favorite was definitely Pinky and the Brain, two genetically altered laboratory mice who continuously plotted to take over the world.

The Magic School Bus

The class got to go on crazy adventures through time and space, even into the human body and back to dinosaur time. What kid didn’t wish their teacher was Ms. Frizzle and that their classes took place on the Magic School Bus?

Johnny Bravo

The unrelenting womanizer that he was, we still loved Johnny Brave. He taught us social skills and how to go about dating and relationships with the opposite sex all while in the tightest black tee imaginable.

Hey, Arnold!

We all loved that football head shaped kid, crazy Helga, and dependable Gerald. Arnold and his friends had a lot of crazy adventures and also learned a lot of good life lessons along the way.

Cow and Chicken

Cow and Chicken was probably the beginning of the trend of random humor. A chicken and a cow born of half people. The red guy (who is the devil) features heavily, especially his butt. It’s just weird. But it was hilarious. And the udders are practically obscene.

Doug

One of the greatest parts of old school Nickelodeon, Doug was the quintessential regular joe. He was head over heels for the girl next door, had a great best friend, and a scary enemy. Doug also brought us the awesome superhero Quailman and a great rock group, The Beets.

Time Squad

This cartoon was still a clever mix of education and entertainment. The concept was that time was a little like rope that would unravel and it was the Squad’s job to travel back in time to correct the inaccuracies. The fact that it got cancelled so soon is a tragedy.

Power Puff Girls

Blossom, Buttercup, and Bubbles though cute, could definitely kick some evil butt!! The Power Puff Girls took the cartoon world by storm and promoted girl power with pigtails, super powers, and pop culture satire. The adorable threesome stayed on air for 7 years and was loved by all ages.

Dexter’s Laboratory

Undoubtedly one of the best cartoons of the ’90s, Dexter’s Laboratory was clever, fun and had a great series within a series: Dial M for Monkey. The show centers around Dexter, his ditzy sister Dee Dee, and his arch-nemesis Mandark. On a different note, the show helped launched the career of Seth McFarlane.

Coward the Cowardly Dog

This is a cartoon that glories in the grotesque. When something is ugly or gross, it’s to the extreme. That is part of the fun of it. Now shut up, you stupid dog! Here’s a synopsis of one of the more beautiful episodes:

Pokémon

One of the most popular cartoons of all time! This show has sparked numerous video games and fanboys alike. Gotta catch ‘em all!

Recess

This cartoon tackled some major social issues, including the kids forming their own government and class structure, as well as showing us just how much trouble you could get into during recess.

Rugrats

An absolute classic and one of the longest running shows on the list, Rugrats may have been a show about babies, but catered to kids and adults alike. Everyday occurrences would become crazy adventures in these babies imaginations and who didn’t know an Angelica growing up?

Beetlejuice

Loosely based on the movie, the cartoon showed the wacky adventures and friendship of Beetlejuice and goth girl Lydia. This show used to freak me out, and I would NEVER say Beetlejuice three times.

With the release of the last Harry Potter movie to DVD, ending an important chapter to many young adults childhood, we thought we would reflect on some of the awesome spells we wouldn’t mind having up our sleeves. The world of Harry Potter is an enthralling one and for every great, magical aspect there is an equally sinister and fearsome counterpart. All the same, it is hard to not wish that some parts of it were real – as long as there are no dark wizards and no danger, of course! Here is a list of some of those spells.

Accio

What it does:

A summoning spell that draws the desired object to the spell-user.

Why it would be great:

Remote controls and escalators were both created with the same purpose in mind – to make human movement as efficient as possible all while being the least energy and time-consuming. Think of how much more time we’d have to become even lazier!

Apparition and Disapparition

What it does:

Allows for instant transportation from one place to another.

Why it would be great:

While transportation has come a long way, traffic jams, turbulence and delays make it hard to appreciate just how far we’ve come. Besides, wouldn’t the ability to Disapparate would be the best thing to happen to the planet? Say goodbye to awkward run-ins with the ex and their new love!

Episkey

What it does:

Heals minor wounds.

Why it would be great:

Imagine breaking your nose and then being able to fix it within seconds! Just picture Jackass with this spell.

Pack!

What it does:

Packs everything up neatly with one sweep of the wand.

Why it would be great:

It would make ‘cleaning up’ for house guests pretty swift as well as getting ready for trips. Now, waiting until the last minute to pack would be the preferred method!

Reparo

What it does:

Repairs things instantly.

Why it would be great:

Your fridge broke? Washing machine spitting water everywhere? Broken plate? Just plain clumsy? All your household troubles gone with the sweep of a wand!

Scourgify

What it does:

A cleaning spell.

Why it would be great:

Household chores would seem much less annoying if all it took was a simple spell to get the floors and counters gleaming like Mr. Clean paid a house-call.

Engorgio

What it does:

Enlarges items.

Why it would be great:

Why it would be great:

Why it would be great:

Lengthy conversations in the classrooms or the office can go unhindered, thanks to this handy spell. Just as long as no one sees your lips.

Why it would be great:

The ability to blend into the background is sometimes desirable, if you need to sneak around. Say, coming home past curfew in your youth?

What it does:

Causes objects such as brooms and carpets to fly.

Why it would be great:

You too can see ‘a whole new world’ on your magic carpet ride.

What it does:

Allows the user to read minds.

Why it would be great:

Glues a person’s tongue to the roof of their mouth.

Why it would be great:
