Sweeney Todd: The Demon Baber of Fleet Street


The gripping story of the Demon Barber, Sweeney Todd was brought to life very well with the suitably creepy Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter and Alan Rickman. The musical score is very catchy and the film also has a grittiness to it. One of the darkest plots of this list, Sweeny Todd proves that musicals aren’t all sunshine and puppies!





The Sound of Music


One of the most famous musicals ever, this classic tale of the Von Trapp family and their teacher has become the standard. With great songs like Do-Re-Mi and My Favorite things, it’s hard to find someone whose never heard of this great flick.





My Fair Lady


Referred to as the perfect musical, Bernard Shaw’s Pygmalion brought to screen with the amazing Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady. Truly a classic, Hepburn shines in the title role. The movie is funny, heart warming, and full of great songs, what’s not to love.





Mary Poppins


The collision of cartoon and film made this film particularly magical. We also just can’t get enough of Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke in this Disney classic. What child didn’t want Mary Poppins as their nanny either? A spoonful of sugar, yes please!





The Little Shop of Horrors


Crazy, creepy, quirky and fun, The Little Shop of Horrors is the story of a carnivorous plant that doesn’t just settle for flies and moths. The idea of horror combined with comedy and music is awesome and makes the film a great deal of fun to watch.




Annie


The charming tale of the orphan Annie is heartwarming, funny, and has great music to beat. Carol Burrnett and Tim Curry make for a fantastic antagonists as the horrible Miss and Rooster Hannigan while plays Albert Finney a great grumpy Daddy Warbucks. With an awesome cast and even better musical score, Annie is definitely one of the classics.





The Rocky Horror Show


Raunchy, daring, weird and cult-forming, this film has the longest running theatre release where fans would come, sing along and join in on the action through costume and commentary. Watching this film became a community activity for many of the youth of the time.





Singin’ in the Rain


Though it received low response upon its release, this film has now been ranked by many critics as one of the best musicals since. Starring Gene Kelly and Debbie Reynolds, Singin in the Rain has been named the #1 musical and its songs are equally as revered.





Moulin Rouge


A love story between a poet and cabaret dancer, this film received 8 Oscar nominations, and brought us an incredible soundtrack. Who would have guessed that Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor could really sing?





Grease


Who doesn’t know at least one song from this film? Grease has established itself as one of THE musicals and it’s so fun to watch over and over again! We also get to see John Travolta before he became a crazy scientologist and lost his hair.





Westside Story


Westside Story is a modern interpretation of Romeo and Julliet. Depicting New York gangs through dance, the thugs are less intimidating and more entertainment for an octogenarian dinner party. Still, the content and score marked a turn in American musical theatre and has become a standard for Broadway auditions and high school plays.





The King and I


Exploring culture, clashes and the idea of Barbarism versus ‘civilized’ behavior, the film is joyful, shocking, funny, heartwarming and sad.




The Wizard of Oz


Telling the fairytale of L. Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Judy Garland bring the character Dorothy to life with infinite charm. Another one of those movies that you can’t believe if someone hasn’t seen, Oz has become iconic and its music, adored.





Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (1971)


A trippy journey through the loopy Willy Wonka’s factory, this film has some of the most fun characters and visually stunning sets of this list. Now a cult favorite, this film has earned its spot as a top musical as well as a creepy remake with Johnny Depp.




Chicago


A sassy, jazzy romp, Chicago mixes crime, romance and music to create thrilling plot. It’s fun to see some of Hollywood’s biggest stars take on the iconic roles as well, lighting up the screen with great songs and dance.

To start us off with a bang, this game requires some drinking in public, which let’s be real, if you’ve been to a mall anytime in December, drinking heavily is preferable. Bring your flask, drink of choice, and a good friend. Whenever you hear “Merry Christmas!”, one of you drinks. The other drinks when someone says “Happy holidays!”. While you can also play at home and call stores, it’s slightly more fun to do this in public. You’ll know to bring the game to an end when you risk getting cited for public drunkenness.

Version two:
Grab some friends, some beer, a dreidel and a glass!
Nun: Do nothing

“Captain Planet, he’s our hero, gonna take pollution down to zero!” Ahead of it’s time on the climate issue, Captain Planet made caring about the environment cool! Plus, they had awesome rings and a really great theme song.

Animaniacs was wonderful. An homage to the Three Stooges, this show had great music, had separate story lines and a wide variety of well-written characters. A fan favorite was definitely Pinky and the Brain, two genetically altered laboratory mice who continuously plotted to take over the world.
 


 


The Magic School Bus

The class got to go on crazy adventures through time and space, even into the human body and back to dinosaur time. What kid didn’t wish their teacher was Ms. Frizzle and that their classes took place on the Magic School Bus?
 


 


Johnny Bravo

The unrelenting womanizer that he was, we still loved Johnny Brave. He taught us social skills and how to go about dating and relationships with the opposite sex all while in the tightest black tee imaginable.
 


 


Hey, Arnold!

We all loved that football head shaped kid, crazy Helga, and dependable Gerald. Arnold and his friends had a lot of crazy adventures and also learned a lot of good life lessons along the way.
 


 


Cow and Chicken

Cow and Chicken was probably the beginning of the trend of random humor. A chicken and a cow born of half people. The red guy (who is the devil) features heavily, especially his butt. It’s just weird. But it was hilarious. And the udders are practically obscene.
 


 


Doug

One of the greatest parts of old school Nickelodeon, Doug was the quintessential regular joe. He was head over heels for the girl next door, had a great best friend, and a scary enemy. Doug also brought us the awesome superhero Quailman and a great rock group, The Beets.
 


 


Time Squad

This cartoon was still a clever mix of education and entertainment. The concept was that time was a little like rope that would unravel and it was the Squad’s job to travel back in time to correct the inaccuracies. The fact that it got cancelled so soon is a tragedy.
 


 


Power Puff Girls

Blossom, Buttercup, and Bubbles though cute, could definitely kick some evil butt!! The Power Puff Girls took the cartoon world by storm and promoted girl power with pigtails, super powers, and pop culture satire. The adorable threesome stayed on air for 7 years and was loved by all ages.
 


 


Dexter’s Laboratory

Undoubtedly one of the best cartoons of the ’90s, Dexter’s Laboratory was clever, fun and had a great series within a series: Dial M for Monkey. The show centers around Dexter, his ditzy sister Dee Dee, and his arch-nemesis Mandark. On a different note, the show helped launched the career of Seth McFarlane.
 


 


Coward the Cowardly Dog

This is a cartoon that glories in the grotesque. When something is ugly or gross, it’s to the extreme. That is part of the fun of it. Now shut up, you stupid dog! Here’s a synopsis of one of the more beautiful episodes:

One of the most popular cartoons of all time! This show has sparked numerous video games and fanboys alike. Gotta catch ‘em all!
 


 


Recess

This cartoon tackled some major social issues, including the kids forming their own government and class structure, as well as showing us just how much trouble you could get into during recess.
 


 


Rugrats

An absolute classic and one of the longest running shows on the list, Rugrats may have been a show about babies, but catered to kids and adults alike. Everyday occurrences would become crazy adventures in these babies imaginations and who didn’t know an Angelica growing up?
 


 


Beetlejuice

Loosely based on the movie, the cartoon showed the wacky adventures and friendship of Beetlejuice and goth girl Lydia. This show used to freak me out, and I would NEVER say Beetlejuice three times.

Lopez and Landry had been dating for over 4 years when the pair got married in 2004. She was Miss USA and he was Slater from Saved by the Bell, two beautiful people in love! However, their happiness didn’t last much longer once reports of Lopez cheating on Landry before their wedding started coming out. 2 weeks later, the two had split. Lopez finally copped to cheating on his fiancee 7 years later in February 2011, stating he wasn’t mature enough to handle marriage.

4. Carmen Electra & Dennis Rodman


Electra, famous for her Playboy spreads and Baywatch, and Rodman, Chicago Bulls star famous for crossdressing and generally being crazy, were another of Hollywood’s most unexpected couples. The pair married in Vegas in 1998 and just 9 days later, Rodman filed for annulment because he was “intoxicated”, an excuse I’m sure the judge had never heard before.

3. Britney Spears & Jason Alexander

Before the world’s biggest popstar married Kevin Federline, popped out two adorable babies, and then went crazy and shaved her head, she married Jason Alexander (not the Seinfield guy). The childhood friends got married in Vegas and then quickly annulled 55 hours later. Spears stated she “lacked understanding” of her actions, a sign of things to come?

2. Robin Givens & Svetozar Marinkovic

After a rocky marriage to Mike Tyson, allegations of abuses and cheating arose, Given remarried in 1997 to her tennis instructor Svetozar Marinkovic. However, the marriage was definitely not meant to last, with the pair separating the very day they married, with the divorce finalized within months. The groom later gave an interview in which he said they lasted 7 minutes before giving up.

The old school Hollywood heartthrob, nicknamed the “Latin Lover” still holds the title for shortest celebrity marriage after over 100 years with 6 hours. After impulsively getting married, Acker immediately regretted the decision and locked Valentino out of their honeymoon suite! She claimed the marriage was never legal, seeing as they didn’t get a chance to consumate it, and both share the crown for the quickest celebrity marriage Hollywood has ever seen.
