I was hiking along sunset cliffs yesterday morning and came across so many amazing plants, but surprisingly my favorite were these dead daisies! There was a lot of life, but given the climate and nature of San Diego, most of the landscape consisted of dead weeds. These little flowers stood out when I saw them, but even more so when I got home and started playing with my pictures! It seems fitting to liken these little flowers with a metaphor about life – Beauty and mystery can reside in the most unexpected places, but you must search carefully for it.

Here are some photos that I captured on Saturday 6-12-10… My family was driving on our way to Julian (on the 79). I saw an amazing stack of boats on a private property… i HAD to check it out. So… I got out of the car, crossed a barbed wire fence and ran like hell to this beautiful scene. I am grateful that I was not caught in the middle of it. The whole adventure was beyond amazing. All of these boats were completely stacked one on top of the other in their amazing colorful arrangement. The only thing that was hard to work with was the harsh light of day that was washing out the colors. I did my best to make up for it. I hope you enjoy!!! I know that I felt invigorated by the whole experience!!! It was as if I was this sneaky teenager, all over again, doing something a little naughty, but so well worth it!!

If you are interested in fine wine and fine art then you should definitely check out the 57degrees wine bar on Hancock & Washington St.! This last Saturday night, the Creative Compound (the artist’s group that I am a part of) had our opening show. A few of my recent photos are hanging there along with one of my paintings. The theme of the show was “without intonation”. Each artist had a different interpretation of that theme, as for my work, I stayed within a very limited color palette of blue, yellow & black hues. The painting I made added a personal touch that I felt completed the feeling of my pieces. I do not currently have a picture of the painting, as it is hanging in the wine bar right now, but I will post that in a future blog. The three photos in the series were printed on metal with a high gloss finish, the images in this blog do not convey that effect, but none the less I hope that you enjoy. And if you feel so inclined, please stop by the wine bar and view them in person.

Creative Compound is going to be featured at the 57degrees Wine Bar. We will be having an art opening on Saturday, May 8 2010 from 7-10pm. There will be live DJ’s and lots of great wine (of course).I will be featuring 3 photographic prints along with a painting, a reflection of the journey that I have been on over the last few months. I look forward to sharing this with all of you.
