Porsche Vows to Continue Producing Slow Cars

As long as there's demand, Porsche promises to offer their 911 models with the manual transmission option along with the faster, smoother choice: the PDK dual clutch transmission. Well I hope so for their sake, considering the 7 speed manual transmission they've just engineered for the new 911s.

I've always been a fan of Porsche. Their design may be pretty stagnate, but their cars are always sleek, sexy, light, and quick. The one problem I have with Porsche is that they represent a compromise between two lifestyles. Car enthusiasts look at the 911 and see the 3.6 liter, 340 hp, magnesium six-cylinder. The engine response is insane, and the 0-60 is sub-five seconds. Sounds pretty good right? And your wife will be pleased too when you promise to take the kids to school; thank God Porsche put their tiny engine behind the rear wheels so there's room inside for some backseats.

I have a better idea. Fuck all that. Screw the backseats and little six-cylinders. Ferrari has no room for posers or their two kids.

The Ferrari 458 doesn't mess around with rear engines. It doesn't come in manual, and you won't find a baby six-cylinder inside either. This car isn't made for daddies who want a sports car but need a sedan.

The Italia boasts a 4.5 liter V8 revving to 9,000 rpm and laying down 560 horses. The front wings inside the bumper are flexible so that they work better at low speeds and bend up at high speeds to decrease drag. The car is cut up all over for ventilation and increased downforce. Ferrari could have put the engine in the rear, but they prefer the center podium instead. And if you're upset that this is the first production Ferrari with no manual transmission option, save it. Ferrari isn't concerned with pleasing whiners who claim dual-clutch paddle shifters are "cheating". Ferrari's focus is making the fastest, most agile, most stylish cars in the world, and they've been dominating production manufacturing and auto racing since Enzo Ferrari started his company.

Congratulations, Porsche, keep offering your six-cylinder status symbol in the slower, manual option; nobody gives a shit.

Everybody's Working For the Weekend

Chances are you've been surrounded by coworkers and friends that live, work, and breathe for the weekend. "THANK god it's Friday... this was the longest week everrr." Sound familiar? Granted, sometimes you may even share in the communal sigh of relief that is Saturday and Sunday, although hopefully without the valley girl emphasis that I'm picturing. The truth is, however, if you're living your life only for the freedom of getting blackout buzzed on the brothers Jack and Jim without yacking next to your boss' most recent bowel movement the next day, you're wasting 5 out of 7 days of your life. That's almost 75% of your day-to-day existence spent bitching about sitting at a desk, having to do things that people pay you to do, and how there's too much foam in your latte from that little coffee shop down the street. No, not the one on the corner-- the one with the chalkboard menu. Guess what: tough fuckin luck.

If there was anything to be learned from Adam Sandler's instant classic "Click," apart from how everyone thinks Kate Beckinsale is stupid hot, it's that life is about the journey, not the destination. Going into a week with only the goal of getting through it is a fantastic way to wake up a year later, a little fatter and wondering why you're still miserable.

Congratufuckinlations. I hope you're happy seeing that matinee for half off. Totally worth it.

Work for every single day you're given, not just the weekend. Do you really want to take advice from a band called Loverboy? You, and only you, have the ability to wake up each morning, grab the day by the haunches, and have your way with it until you reach the recommended 8 hour refractory period-- then it's back to work. Make the most of your limited time and get some serious shit done. Like most things, it's all about the attitude. Figure out ways to be productive and have a good time when others are coasting with lame ass excuses. Motivate. Dominate.

PS: Weekend, I don't mean to talk shit. You're just not there when I need you sometimes, always taking off in the middle of the night and not telling me where you're going. I need something more stable in my life right now. Let's spend some time apart and see where it goes. You can keep the booze. Turns out weekdays have better happy hours anyways.

A benefit of being one of the dominant national teams in the world is that your official supplier tends to pay you a little extra mind. Today, for example, Nike and the French Football Federation unveiled the new France National Football Team kit. The design strategy embraces the classic elements of France’s past kits, with some modern upgrades, both superficially and performance-driven.

Aesthetically, the new shirts lose most of the white and red, opting for a predominantly solid blue shirt with some tonal striping and red on the underside of the sleeves, as well as the addition of a motto, “Nos Differences Nous Unissent” (roughly “our differences unite us” in English), placed behind the badge, adjacent to the wearer’s heart. The white shorts create a stark contrast, as do the red shin pads.

As for functional innovations, Dri-FIT is of course central to the construction, in order to lighten weight and enhance breathability, and the shirts feature a ventilated, ergonomic construction to reduce drag and encourage air flow.
Last but not least, Nike continues a push toward eco-friendly designs on the world stage. The France National Team Kit is Nike’s most environmentally-sustainable ever, largely using a microfibre polyester that is created from recycled plastic bottles.
