Vanitas – The work of James Hopkins

James Hopkins is a sculpter and artist working in Guernsey and London.

Hopkins completed his degree in Fine Art Sculpture at the University of Brighton in 1998 and would begin to exhibit his artwork in the same year. His works have been featured all over the world from Dallas to Moscow. Vanitas is a collection of mixed media sculptures that include these amazing skulls created from shades as well as objects.

Bill Zindel has been in the design business for over ten years, working with clients like Chevron, Visa, Shutterfly, Sun Microsystems, Minute Maid, Sprite and Smirnoff Ice to name a few.

His work features collages of print and texture from magazines and torn cardboard. MOre of his work can be found on his excellent website.

He Wears It – The Illustration Of John Woo

Hong Kong based designer and illustrator John Woo has created an amazing set of Star Wars vs clothing brand illustrations.

Supreme, Visvim, Outsiders, A.P.C., Comme des Garcons and numerous others feature in these superb mashups. Even better news is that they are now available as prints for $50 on his website.

The Photography of Kalle Gustafsson

Kalle Gustafsson studied film in Sydney and photography in Paris before spending two years in Stockholm as an assistant under fashion photographer Bersa.

Kalles’s professional career has taken him around the globe and back working for clients like Paul Smith, Baldessarini, FILA, Twilfit, ATG, Nokia and Anteprima and number of editorial clients, such as Monocle, Fashiontale, Vision, Ryoko Tsushin and KING.

His work has evolved and revolved around lifestyle and fashion shoots. Early work consists of a few music videos as well as working on commercials for companies such as FILA.

Homegrown – Former exhibition of Urbis

Here are some shots which I took during the last days of Urbis. There not great but it was worth documenting such a forward thinking exhibition.

Urbis closed in February 2010 ahead of the building’s conversion to house the National Football Museum from the summer of 2011. The building was seen by many as one the only exhibition space s dedicated to modern culture, with people still mourning it’s loss in Manchester.

Here’s some blurb on Homegrown:

This exhibition was the first attempt in the UK, to document the UK Hip Hop scene and tell the tale – in a gallery. Tracing its American Roots, it charted its entry into the UK mainstream, where the mantel is currently held firmly aloft by artists such as Speech Debelle, Est’Elle and Dizzee Rascal.

Looking back over three decades, it told how a generation of youth took the spirit of the Bronx block party and fused it with a British influences, creating a powerful cultural medium combining art, politics, rhyme dance and music.

Working with UK collaborators, collectors, photographers, musicians, producers, promoters and artists it brought together the rare, remarkable and irreplaceable, featuring many of the artsits’ own personal possessions.

The Urbis Archive is now available to see online, covering past exhibitions and the history of the building.

Super Happy Times by Jordan Metcalf

Jordan Metcalf is an extremely talented designer from Cape Town in South Africa. working with Rotring pens, paint markers, craft knives, Illustrator, and recently acquired fluorescent acrylic paint he creates gorgeos and ultra detailed pieces.

Metcalf is quoted with gathering inspiration from “Mainly but also music, books, heat, cold, hand made signage, boredom, fear, and a myriad of great artists, designers, and illustrators i’ve come into contact with.”

Super Happy Times is a collection of tags for the cynical, though this is only a small part of his excellent portfolio on the Behance Network. Go have a look!
