I first became friendly with Georg (911revolution) Mia (Miaarose) coffinman & the 'crewsters' 2006 - inspiration for this was this a demo recording produced by myself 2006. & watching it for the first time in years it seems incredible that a blurry blob was able to keep attention on the TV sets - this is hardly CGI it is a badly done effect
Miaarose has now been digested into the machinery while Georg is the most consistent internet friend I have - I love him - havent bothered even attempting to contact mia for yonks - but her ex boyfriend sent me some nice home-made videos that were viral but led to youtube executions - lol something we are not unfamiliar with - ANY OF US!

CENSORED- facebook nazis have hidden some of the npt videos, can I not have an opinion ? some of the embeds still work - ie can watch on my page http://seofollow.net/blog/decade-911/ but they are to all intents & purposes invisible - makes me rather - not angry, but unhappy & :'( plotting....

electribe

The ELECTRIBE•SX lets you use a variety of approaches to creating songs, elevating it beyond just a sampler and rhythm module into a comprehensive tool for music production.

Using sample based sound creation, the ELECTRIBE•SX can generate a total of 16 parts that can be used for building patterns. Nine parts are set up to play as “one-shot” samples, or Drum Parts. Two additional Keyboard Parts allow samples to be played melodically at various pitches right from the step keys or a MIDI input.

Sampled loops can be assigned to the Stretch Parts. As Stretch Parts, their tempos can be freely adjusted without affecting their pitch. This allows two sample Loops recorded at different tempos to be used in the same piece of music.
Valve Force circuitry contains two vacuum tubes that add new power to your sound. The analog tube circuit adds a warmth and presence to your sound that cannot be duplicated digitally. The tube gain knob adjusts the level of the output signal passing through the vacuum tubes, creating dynamic sounds with the distinctive tonal quality that only tubes deliver.

Three Stereo Effect Processors to Radically Change your Sound

The highly acclaimed Electribe effects have been enhanced to provide three multi-effect units available for simultaneous use. Each part can be independently routed to any of the three effects processors, and you can even use the Chain function to link multiple effects in series, opening up further sonic possibilities. Each processor offers 16 effect types ranging from traditional reverb, delay, flanger and chorus, as well as more modern offerings including tempo-based delay, talking modulator, grain shifter, decimator and more. The edits you make to each of the effects processors are saved with each pattern.

Powerful Arpeggiator with Ribbon Controller and Slider

A new ribbon controller and slider have been added, providing a remarkable realtime interface for accessing the powerful arpeggiator. Together, they allow you to enter pattern data or perform over a pattern quickly and with amazingly musical results. When playing a synth part, select a scale type or hold down a few notes – the ribbon controller will affect note duration, and the slider can be played in realtime to generate new phrases. For a drum part, touching the ribbon will trigger notes, and sliding your finger up and down will change the note resolution.

Motion Sequencing Brings your Songs to Life

Motion Sequencing records your realtime knob tweaks and plays them back as part of the pattern. Two types of motion sequence are provided; one for effects and one for parts, and you can also edit the value of individual steps. Up to 24 motion sequences can be used in a single pattern, allowing you to control virtually every sound parameter. The Step Edit function allows you to adjust the value of individual steps.

Easy to Use Realtime and Step Style Sequencing

The 14 part keys and 16 step keys on the front panel of the ELECTRIBE•SX allow for easy, intuitive song production. Realtime recording lets you record phrases as you perform, and step recording allows you to input the timing, pitch and duration one note at a time.

A Variety of Tempo Sources

Using Auto BPM detection, the ELECTRIBE•SX can follow the tempo of an external audio source. You can also use Tap Tempo to input the beat, set the tempo internally, or sync up to an external MIDI clock.

higgs boson

The Higgs boson particle is one quantum component of the theoretical Higgs field. In empty space, the Higgs field has an amplitude different from zero; i.e., a non-zero vacuum expectation value. The existence of this non-zero vacuum expectation plays a fundamental role: it gives mass to every elementary particle which has mass, including the Higgs boson itself. In particular, the acquisition of a non-zero vacuum expectation value spontaneously breaks electroweak gauge symmetry, which scientists often refer to as the Higgs mechanism. This is the simplest mechanism capable of giving mass to the gauge bosons while remaining compatible with gauge theories. In essence, this field is analogous to a pool of molasses that "sticks" to the otherwise massless fundamental particles which travel through the field, converting them into particles with mass which form, for example, the components of atoms.

        Introduction
        ROBIN HOOD'S GRAVE
Even more terrifying than the Blair Witch Project and a thousand times more intriguing than any Brother Caedfel mystery, SECRETS OF THE GRAVE and it's sequel SPIRIT OF THE GREENWOOD reveal, for the first time, the true story of the life and death of Robin Hood. Enter the dark, mysterious woods of Kirklees in West Yorkshire, and visit, with writer historian Barbara Green, the forest of Barnsdale where Robin roamed and the ruined priory gatehouse of Kirklees Nunnery where he was treacherously slain by the hand of an evil nun. Written testimonies from those who have experienced the ghostly presence of Robin and his comrades, whose spirits haunt this ancient forest, form the basis of both books, while the life of Robin, as told in SPIRIT OF THE GREENWOOD, accords fully with the Lytell Geste,(Robin's first biography) printed in the fifteenth century. This, one might think, could be the basis for a best selling book, but such seems to not to be the case, for ,according to the "experts" the public do not want to know the truth and prefer to be fed the myth of Sherwood Forest and the dastardy deeds of the Sheriff of Nottingham, not to mention Richard the Lionheart, who does not even belong in the story at all!

The mystery of Robin's gruesome death at Kirklees, it would seem, is not the only inexplicable phenomenon surrounding the legend ! Why ARE people prevented from learning the true facts about the oulaw's life, due to the propogation of a fantasy by the media, and why is his famous grave at Kirklees, kept in a state of secrecy and neglect - and who is responsible for this bizarre situation? Dare you ask ? Dare you investigate and............. dare YOU print the truth ? Or is Robin Hood's legend to remain distorted out of all recognition, and the real man lost to future generations forever ?

"No one could see anything in the dense, suffocating blackness, but following Mark's directions we stumbled on forward through the barrier of writhing, intertwining bushes and trees; then suddenly, we found ourselves in a clearing, where, looming out of the gloom, rearing up before us in the light of our flickering torches, a massive, broken edifice was revealed . A huge ship of stone, wrecked in the everglades of Kirklees, listing crazily into the leaping shadows. We stood transfixed with fear and awe as we gazed upon the fallen pillars and twisted railings which were all that remained of Yorkshire's buried treasure -Robin Hood's Grave."

"My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
Look on my works, ye Mighty and despair!"
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away."
SHELLEY

Robin Hood's death is recorded in the ballad ROBIN HOOD, HIS DEATH AND BURIAL and briefly in the GESTE. According to the literature Robin is taken ill and decides to go to Kirklees Priory to be nursed by the prioress, who was "nye of his kin" and reputedly skilled in healing. On the way to the nunnery Robin is cursed by a witch - for reasons unknown, as the ballad is unfortunately incomplete. When Robin arrives at the nunnery, Little John, who has accompanied him, is sent away and the prioress proceeds to bleed Robin by opening a vein in his arm - standard medieval medicine, though unlikely to do anyone much good !

"Shee laid the blood irons to Robin Hood's vaine
Alacke the more pitye!
And perct the vaine, and let out the bloode,
That full red was to see. At first it bled, the thicke, thicke blood,
And afterwards the thinne,
And well then wist good Robin Hoode,
Treason there was within."
DEATH, V 16-17

According to the legend, Robin summons Little John with three blasts of his trusty hunting horn and the giant rushes to his comrade' s assistance, but alas,he is too late and Robin is already dying. With his last ounce of strength Robin fires his last arrow from the priory gatehouse window, requesting that where it falls he should be buried. Little John is beside himself with rage and grief and threatens to raze the nunnery and all its inhabitants to the ground.

"A boon,a boon," cried Little John,
"Master ,I beg of thee."
"What is that boon,"quoth Robin ,
"Little John,thou begs of me?"
"It is to burn fair Kirkley Hall,
"And all their nunnery."
"I ne'er hurt fair maid in all my life
"Nor at my end shall it be;
"But give me my bent bow in my hand,
"And my broad arrows I'll let flee.
"And where this arrow is taken up,
"There shall my grave digged be,
"Lay me a green sod under my head,
"And another at my feet.
"And lay my bent bow by my side
"Which was my music sweet,
"And make my grave of gravel and green,
"Which is most right and meet.
"Let me have length and breadth enough
"With a green sod under my head:
"That they may say when I am dead
"HERE LIES BOLD ROBIN HOOD."

The grave, six hundred yards from the gatehouse, was enclosed in iron railings in the nineteenth century. Today it is neglected and overgrown and little known to the general public. It bears the inscription:

THE DEATH OF ROBIN HOOD

At first it bled the thicke thicke blood
And afterwards the thinne
And well then wist good Robin Hood
Treason there was within

The death of Robin Hood is a well known legend. He was treacherously bled to death by the wicked prioress of Kirklees nunnery, a small Cistercian house near Brighouse, West Yorkshire. The outlaw's gory and unheroic end is shrouded in mystery. Who was the evil nun and why did she commit so foul a murder? What was the role of Red Roger of Doncaster, who was present at the scene of crime? Was he a priest and also the prioress's lover? Who WAS the prioress? Was she Dame Elizabeth de Stainton, whose grave can still be seen at Kirklees, or was it Sister Mary Startin, who died of the Black Death in 1350?

All that is left of this medieval whodunit is a ruined grave, hidden in deep woodland, and the derelict priory gatehouse of Kirklees where Robin was so gruesomely done to death. Was the famous outlaw a vitim of thwarted passion, pagan sacrifice, bad nursing, accident, natural causes or - vampirism ? The entire area where this horrific drama took place is shrouded in ,according to one old book, " .....a mystery which local people only reluctantly tried to penetrate. The mystery was helped physically by the thick shroud of trees that surrounded the place and was sustained by local tales of prioresses and nuns and of the death of Robin Hood......."

"Terribilis Est Locus Iste" Dreadful is this place - Abbe Berenger Sauniere, Renne-le-Chateau.
THE HAUNTING OF ROBIN HOOD'S GRAVE

"The Armytage family lived over the brow of the hill on a splendid site once occupied by Cistercian nuns. It was called Kirklees. There was more than an insularity which set the mansion apart. There was a mystery about it which local people only reluctantly tried to penetrate. The mystery was helped physically by the thick shroud of trees that surrounded the place and was sustained by local tales of ghosts of prioresses and nuns and or the death of Robin Hood whose grave is so imperturbably marked as lying within Kirklees grounds in spite of any facts which might suggest to the contrary. " THE LAND OF LOST CONTENT.

This would appear to be the first reported mention of ghostly activity around Robin Hood's Grave, but considering the history of Robin's death - cursed by a witch on his way to the nunnery, murdered by an apostate nun and cast into an unhallowed grave - it is hardly surprising that the site is reputed to have unquiet spirits hovering around. An elderly lady, Mrs Edith Ellis, witnessed silver arrows in the sky above Kirklees when visiting her old aunt at Hartshead in the early years of the last century. She also reports hearing Robin calling for Marian.

Another sighting was made by a tenant farmer of Kirklees in 1926. "One day," he recalls, " I was sitting on the grave shooting rabbits. As I was about to shoot I felt a tap on my shoulder, and my shotgun went off accidentally, removing two of my front teeth on its recoil. There was nobody to be seen at the time. On another occasion I was on my way home from the Three Nuns. As I was walking through the woods something fell out of a tree and knocked me to the ground. When I got up I could see the old gatehouse. In the window I could clearly see a man with a bow. My family always said it was the drink, but it was Robin Hood's ghost."

In 1963 guitarist Roger Williams took an unofficial stroll up to Robin's grave with a friend. About twenty yards from the grave he saw a white robed woman who suddenly seemed to glide towards the two men. What made Roger's hair stand on end was how silently she moved over the twigs and bracken. At about five yards from Roger the woman stopped and stared at him with "dark, mad eyes." Then she moved away and vanished. It was 2.30 p.m. on a bright, sunny day. Roger Williams saw the same apparition again in 1972, in full daylight, and again she stopped a few yards from him and his companion. This time Roger remembered a few more details. The woman was wearing a long white dress with a square neck and long sleeves which accords with the habit of a Cistercian nun. Again she looked at him angrily before moving off, but the eerie sequel to this experience was that Roger's house then experienced a series of strange noises and bangings. After this, Roger swore that "wild horses would not drag me up there again."

Mark Gibbons, one of the founder members of Gravewatch, had a similar experience in 1998. With other members of the group he had gone up to try and find Robin's grave one moonlit night, but they had got lost. Suddenly Mark saw a white figure pointing in a certain direction - which turned out to be where the grave was situated. Mark also experienced a sensation of great evil and hatred.

Shortly after this a reporter Judith Broadbent, from the Dewsbury Reporter, and a photographer colleague, Sue Ellis were allowed to visit the gravesite by the owner. While wandering around she heard heavy footsteps behind her and she was pulled to the ground by invisible forces. She shouted "get away" and her friend came rushing to help her. Her camera had jammed while trying to photograph the grave. A week later Sue was taken seriously ill and was paralysed f from the neck downwards for two weeks. The two reporters later wrote this article up for Yorkshire Life magazine, much of its content being taken from Yorkshire Robin Hood Society literature, including the next sighting, which appeared in THE UNEXPLAINED magazine in 1992, prior to the publication of their article.

This was when vampires entered the arena, introduced to the increasing enigmatic situation by a Bishop of the Holy Grail Church and patron of the Yorkshire Robin Hood Society. In 1992 the Bishop and two colleagues, attempted an exorcism at Kirklees. This had come about as a result of the Yorkshire Robin Hood Society asking for the site to be blessed by the local vicar. Unfortunately permission to perform such a ceremony had been unequivocally refused to both clergymen. The Bishop, however, was made of sterner stuff than the local pastor ! He was renowned for his involvement in the notorious Highgate Vampire affair in the nineteen seventies and it occurred to him that vampires might be behind the legend of Robin being bled to death and this needed urgent spiritual intervention - and he was the man for the job, with or without official sanction ! Suffice to say that on his clandestine visit to the grave the bishop came across the body of a blood drained goat, diabolical rune signs of the priory gatehouse, finger width holes in the ground round the grave - suggesting vampiric activity - and was confronted by a darkly clad woman who turned into a hag with red staring eyes.

A further sighting by another nocturnal visitor proved a terrifying experience when she saw two figures hovering in the trees surrounding the grave, who she took to be the evil prioress and her paramour Red Roger of Doncaster. " I felt, and saw, what I can only describe streams of evil pouring out of the trees towards me" the witness stated. A lady from Nottingham, who visited the grave in the summer of 2000, experienced a psychic communication with Robin at the graveside, as did Robin Hood expert John de Locksley of the London Robin Hood Club, who also boldly battled through the giant ferns, murderous brambles and other lethal obstacles of the Kirklees rain forest to stand by his hero's grave one wild, wet October night the same year !

It is true that Robin's grave was excavated in an amateurish way by a Victorian Armytage (who was reputed to be in his cups at the time) and the ground beneath found to be undisturbed, but the many historical documents naming Kirklees as Robin's final resting place cannot be ignored. The fact is, his bones could lie anywhere on that hillside, while a gravestone resembling the original one drawn by Dr Johnstone, is to be found in nearby Hartshead churchyard - to where it may have been moved during the Civil War.

Many visitors to the grave have recorded their experiences for posterity, including the following quote from a Victorian tourist :
"I had the strangest emotions when I first stood over the grave of this old forest hero. I stood there and had no words, nor can I find any now to tell what my feelings were. Bravehearted Robin ! Thou hast found a fit resting place in this glorious park, among these solemn yews and silent trees ."A hundred years later it is a different story:

"There it was, looming out of the dark, a massive, broken edifice, a huge ship of stone, wrecked in the everglades of Kirklees. Fallen pillars and twisted railings were were all that remained on Yorkshire's buried treasure. We had found Robin Hood's Grave."
MARK GIBBONS, SECRETS OF THE GRAVE.

Maybe the last word should be with Victorian poet, George Searle Phillips, a friend of the Brontes, who visited the grave in 1848, and wrote an epic poem, a small section of which is printed below :

Tread lightly o'er the earth and speak no word
Till the Great Spirit doth unloose your tongues
For where those yew trees nod their funereal plumes
Upon the highest platform of the hill,
Lies gentle Robin Hood, his mighty heart
All muffled up in dust and his bright eyes
Quenched in eternal darkness. Never more
Shall the woods echo to his bugle horn,
Or his unerring arrow strike the deer
Swift flying, till it hits the bloody grass.

The earliest reference to Robin Hood is in the Vision of Piers Plowman (1377) in which the rhymester says "I do not know my paternoster perfectly but I know rhymes of Robin Hood and Randolph Earl of Chester".

In 1521 John Major wrote -

About this time (1190) Robert Hude and Little John most famous of outlaws, hid in the woods and only plundered the goods of rich men and never slew any unless they opposed them in defence of their goods. Robert maintained one hundred archers most skilful in battle whom four hundred of the boldest fellows did not dare attack. He never allowed harm to be done to a woman, nor the goods of poor men, but seized the rich oblations of Abbots.

The exploits of this Robin are celebrated in song throughout all Britain. I disprove of the rapine of the man, but he was the most humane and prince of robbers.

In this our spacious Isle, I think there is not one
But he of Robin Hood hath heard and Little John
And to the end of time the tale shall ne'er be done
Of Scathelock, George a'Green and Much the Miller's son
Of Tuck, the merry friar, which many a sermon made
In praise of Robin Hood, the outlaws and their trade.

Harold Lloyd (1893-1971)
One of the silent screen's most popular comedians, Harold Lloyd was born Harold Clayton Lloyd in Burchard, Nebraska, on April 20th, 1893. His parents separated when Harold was young, and he eventually went to live with his father. Harold was a bright, imaginative boy, and yearned to be an actor from a young age. He was educated in Omaha, Denver, and received theater training at the School of Dramatic Arts in San Diego. He appeared for a time with the Omaha Stock Company.

While in San Diego the Lloyds discovered that the Edison film company was looking for extras, and Harold applied for a job, getting his start in films dressed as indian in 1913's "The Old Monk's Tale." Harold went on to make over 200 comedy shorts for studios such as Universal and Keystone. He became friends with Hal Roach, who also started in films as a bit player, and when Roach inherited money the two friends began their own studio named Rolin, making their own pictures, with Harold as the star performer. Harold created a character called "Lonesome Luke" which was popular with the public, but after playing Luke for several years he began to feel his screen character needed a change of direction. In 1917 Harold created a new character called the “Glasses” character. This character was far more defined than the Luke character and employed more difficult, dare-devil stunts; he was an energetic, positive and clever young man who usually fought against great odds and circumstances to win the girl of his heart, which in his early years was most often Bebe Daniels or Mildred Davis, Harold's future wife. This Glasses character resonated with the public, and soon Harold Lloyd's films were eagerly anticipated and attended by audiences everywhere.

In 1920 a freak accident with a supposed prop bomb which turned out to be real caused Harold Lloyd to lose the thumb and forefinger on his right hand. Shaken, at first Harold wondered whether he could continue as an actor. However where there is a will there is a way, and Harold had a prosthetic device created, and wore a flesh-colored glove in his future films to mask the crippled hand from his audiences.

Harold Lloyd and Harold Lloyd, Jr. - goldensilents.com

Harold Lloyd and son Harold Lloyd Jr.

Harold married his leading lady Mildred Davis in 1923 and Mildred gave up her career as an actress to raise a family; the couple had three children, a daughter Gloria, an adopted daughter Peggy, and a son Harold Lloyd Jr. Harold built a fabulous home for Mildred and the children called Greenacres, which was one of the showplace homes of early Hollywood. Harold Lloyd's personal, family and professional life was far more stable than his main competitors', Charles Chaplin and Buster Keaton. He had left Hal Roach in 1923 on good terms and had formed his own company called The Harold Lloyd Corporation; he was one of the few stars who actually owned his most successful film properties. In 1928 Harold published his own autobiography entitled “An American Comedy." When the sound era arrived Harold continued to make interesting comedies such as "Movie Crazy" (1932) and "The Milky Way" (1936), but his film career was winding down as he aged and as the public's tastes in films changed. Harold continued to be involved with the industry off screen as a producer, writer and director, and he enjoyed experimenting with different hobbies and businesses, including 3-D color photography. He briefly reappeared as an actor in one last film made in 1947 and retitled "Mad Wednesday" (released 1950). In 1962 Harold made a documentary film called "Harold Lloyd's World of Comedy" which created new interest in his work. He enjoyed touring on college campuses during the 1960's, showing his 1920's silent classics to a new generation of film fans. In 1969 his beloved wife Mildred died from a heart attack, and Harold died two years later from prostate cancer, on March 8th, 1971 in Beverly Hills, California. Only three months later his son Harold Lloyd Jr., who had been an actor himself, died from the effects of a massive stroke.

Executions at York.

From 1379 to 1800, executions were carried out on Knavesmire (outside the city walls on the road to Leeds) which now forms part of York racecourse. A civic meeting was held to decide this and the cost of the new gallows was a surpising £10.15s (£10.75). The new structure was completed on the 8th of March and was first used for the execution of Edward Hewison on the 31st of March of that year. The site of York Tyburn, as the gallows was known, is marked by a plaque. As at London's Tyburn, the gallows was a triangular structure and had 3 beams supported by 3 uprights. Prisoners were transported to it in horse drawn carts sitting on their own coffins and with the noose around their necks. The gallows was also nicknamed the "three-legged mare" and its first victim was a rapist, Edward Hewison. The most infamous criminal to be executed here was highwayman, Richard “Dick” Turpin. Turpin was in fact a murderer and horse thief who became a legend in popular folklore. He was hanged by Thomas Hadfield on Saturday, April the 7th, 1739, together with another horse thief, John Stead. Hadfield was a condemned prisoner too and had, ironically, also been sentenced for highway robbery. As was the custom at that time in York, executions were carried out by a condemned prisoner who had been pardoned on condition that he would act as hangman. York also boasted another gallows up to 1676 which was situated at St. Leonard’s Green Dyke, outside the Walls, at Walmgate Bar. It was removed in June 1700, having been used for less than 100 executions.

Just as happened in London, the gallows caused congestion at a major road junction and it was decided to move it to the prison. Its relocation was explained by York's Herald newspaper on July 25th, 1801 as follows: "Thus will be removed from one of the principal roads leading to the city that disagreeable nuisance, the gallows; and thus will the inhabitants and passengers be no longer interrupted, and their humanity hurt, by the leading of unfortunate people to the place of execution."
Between January and August 1800, 3 men and 3 women were to suffer at York Tyburn. There were no executions carried out at York from then until the following April when Samuel Lundy was hanged for cattle stealing. On Saturday, the 2nd of May 5, men were hanged on the "New Drop" for sheep stealing and forgery. The gallows was set up at the back of the Castle in an area bounded by the Castle Mills Bridge and the river Ouse. This continued to be the principal place of execution until the mid 1820's. There was also another gallows in York, at the City Gaol (opened in 1807 at Bishophill), and it was here on the 12th of August 1809 that David Anderson was hanged for "uttering" forged banknotes. It was only used once more in 1821 - see later.

Although York was an important city at the time, the population was only 16,000 according to the 1801 census. However, York Castle was the place of execution for persons convicted in all 3 Ridings of Yorkshire up to 1856. Hangings were not an overly frequent event in York even in the early 1800's. There were 3 in 1802, 5 in 1803, 2 in 1804 and 2 in 1805. In all, 151 men and 7 women were hanged within the Castle precincts between April 1801 and December 1896. Up to 1844, it was normal to hang all those condemned at the end of each Assizes in groups, men and women together. Murderers were typically hanged on Monday’s (up to 1830) and other criminals on Saturday’s. Saturday became the execution day for all criminals from 1830 to 1862 as it allowed the for the biggest audience.

Probably the most famous female execution at York was that of "The Yorkshire Witch" on March the 20th, 1809. Forty one year old Mary Bateman had been convicted of the murder by poisoning in May 1808 of Rebecca Perigo. Mary had been a criminal since childhood and in later years began duping people with her self proclaimed supernatural powers. In 1806, William and Rebecca Perigo approached Mary asking for her help, as they suspected that they had been put under a spell. Mary saw a great opportunity here to bleed the Perigo's of their money before killing them when they became suspicious of her activities. She didn’t manage to kill William, however, as he wouldn’t eat the poison she had prepared for them. Mary Bateman was hanged alongside two men and after execution, her body was displayed in public and thousands paid to view it with the proceeds going to charity. Strips of her skin were sold as charms to ward off evil.

1813 was to be the peak year for executions at York with a total of 20 men hanged there. The Luddites were trying to halt mechanisation in the textile industries of Yorkshire and Lancashire by violent means as this was causing widespread unemployment and destitution. Following an attempt to destroy Cartwright's textile mill at Rawfold near Brighouse in April 1812, over 100 men had been rounded up. Sixty four were charged with a variety of offences and came before a special judicial commission at York Castle at the beginning of January 1813. Twenty four of them were convicted and 17 sentenced to hang. The remainder were sentenced to transportation. The first of the Luddite executions was carried out on Friday, the 8th of January when 3 men suffered for the murder of mill owner, William Horsfall, including the Luddite's leader in Yorkshire, George Mellor. Just over a week later, on the 16th of January, the other 14 condemned Luddite's were executed for their parts in the raid on Cartwright's mill in what was to be York's biggest ever hanging. Five of them were condemned for riot, 6 for burglary and 3 for robbery, having been convicted under the Frame Breaking Act that came into force the previous year. They were put to death in two groups by John Curry – 7 at 11.00 a.m. and 7 at 1.30 p.m. A "vast concourse" of people assembled on St George’s Field to see this mass "launch into eternity" as hangings were then known. Other Luddite executions took place in Lancashire. A further 3 men were hanged at York on the 3rd of April for fraud, forgery and highway robbery.

This is confirmed by contemporary law books.

Drawing does not refer to the removal of the intestines in this context and remained part

of the sentence for High Treason long after the disembowelling and dismemberment had

ceased. The hurdle was similar to a piece of fencing made from thin branches interwoven

to form a panel to which the prisoner was tied to be dragged behind a horse to the place of

execution. Once there, the prisoner(s) were hanged in the normal way (i.e. without a drop

to ensure that the neck was not broken) but cut down whilst still conscious.

The penis and testicles were cut off and the stomach was slit open.

The intestines and heart were removed and burned before them.

The other organs were torn out and finally the head was cut off and the body divided into

four quarters. The head and quarters were parboiled to prevent them rotting too quickly

and then displayed upon the city gates as a grim warning to all.

At some point in this agonising process, the prisoner inevitably died of strangulation

and/or haemorrhage and/or shock and damage to vital organs.

It has to be one of the most sadistic forms of execution ever invented, which it was in 1241,

specifically to punish William Maurice who had been convicted of piracy.

accoustic (ish) 1995 - knights templar

After the First Crusade captured Jerusalem in 1099, many Christian pilgrims traveled to visit what they referred to as the Holy Places. However, though the city of Jerusalem was under relatively secure control, the rest of the Outremer was not. Bandits abounded, and pilgrims were routinely slaughtered, sometimes by the hundreds, as they attempted to make the journey from the coastline at Jaffa into the Holy Land.

Around 1119, two veterans of the First Crusade, the French knight Hugues de Payens and his relative Godfrey de Saint-Omer, proposed the creation of a monastic order for the protection of these pilgrims. King Baldwin II of Jerusalem agreed to their request, and gave them space for a headquarters on the Temple Mount, in the captured Al Aqsa Mosque. The Temple Mount had a mystique, because it was above what was believed to be the ruins of the Temple of Solomon. The Crusaders therefore referred to the Al Aqsa Mosque as Solomon's Temple, and it was from this location that the Order took the name of Poor Knights of Christ and the Temple of Solomon, or "Templar" knights. The Order, with about nine knights, had few financial resources and relied on donations to survive. Their emblem was of two knights riding on a single horse, emphasizing the Order's poverty.

The Templars' impoverished status did not last long. They had a powerful advocate in Saint Bernard of Clairvaux, a leading Church figure and a nephew of one of the founding knights. He spoke and wrote persuasively on their behalf, and in 1129 at the Council of Troyes, the Order was officially endorsed by the Church. With this formal blessing, the Templars became a favored charity throughout Christendom, receiving money, land, businesses, and noble-born sons from families who were eager to help with the fight in the Holy Land. Another major benefit came in 1139, when Pope Innocent II's papal bull Omne Datum OptimumPope exempted the Order from obedience to local laws. This ruling meant that the Templars could pass freely through all borders, were not required to pay any taxes, and were exempt from all authority except that of the Pope .

With its clear mission and ample resources, the Order grew rapidly. Templars were often the advance force in key battles of the Crusades, as the heavily armored knights on their warhorses would set out to charge at the enemy, in an attempt to break opposition lines. One of their most famous victories was in 1177 during the Battle of Montgisard, where some 500 Templar knights helped to defeat Saladin's army of more than 26,000 soldiers.

Although the primary mission of the Order was military, relatively few members were combatants. The others acted in support positions to assist the knights and to manage the financial infrastructure. The Templar Order, though its members were sworn to individual poverty, was given control of wealth beyond direct donations. A nobleman who was interested in participating in the Crusades might place all his assets under Templar management while he was away. Accumulating wealth in this manner throughout Christendom and the Outremer, the Order in 1150 began generating letters of credit for pilgrims journeying to the Holy Land: pilgrims deposited their valuables with a local Templar preceptory before embarking, received a document indicating the value of their deposit, then used that document upon arrival in the Holy Land to retrieve their funds. This innovative arrangement was an early form of banking, and may have been the first formal system to support the use of cheques; it improved the safety of pilgrims by making them less attractive targets for thieves, and also contributed to the Templar coffers.

Based on this mix of donations and business dealing, the Templars established financial networks across the whole of Christendom. They acquired large tracts of land, both in Europe and the Middle East; they bought and managed farms and vineyards; they built churches and castles; they were involved in manufacturing, import and export; they had their own fleet of ships; and at one point they even owned the entire island of Cyprus. The Order of the Knights Templar arguably qualifies as the world's first multinational corporation

http://spiney.me.uk/

Having seen the rather crude metalwork of one of these - up close, it must be said, they are rather interesting both historically & from an engineers perspective. The right machine at the right time. Not so over-engineered as the rather superior but less numerous German offerings. Though I was planning to concentrate on the T-34, this article has grown into an almost definitive WW2 tank history.

The T-34 was a medium tank, weighed 26 tons. It had a crew of four or five, top speed of 55kmh (34mph) and a range of 115 miles. During the late stages of the war, the Russian army perfected its mobility so much that tanks were sometimes refueled while still driving forward, without stopping, and the Russian infantry used to keep pace with the advancing tanks simply by riding on them from one battle to the next.
Some T-34 tanks are apparently still being used by some military forces even today, and the generations of Russian tanks developed since World War 2, which were produced in vast numbers during the cold war and still used by many armies, are direct descendants of the T-34, the best tank in World War 2.

The T-34 evolved from a series of pre-war Russian light tanks, which were designed for very high speed and long travel range, features which made them a formidable weapon for fast advances very deep into enemy territory, but they severely lacked firepower and armor, so they were not suitable as main battle tanks.

As a result of the need for an all-purpose main battle tank, the T-34 was developed as a medium tank descendant of those fast light tanks, gradually evolving from their superb technical design, but designed to be a capable main battle tank. The T-34 was lower in height (8ft) than German and American tanks, which was better in using the terrain for taking cover and make it a smaller target to hit. It had sloped armor in both the front and side hull and the turret, which made it harder to penetrate, and of course it had a powerful 76mm gun, which was then a large caliber, and sufficiently thick armor. During World War 2 the gun of the T-34 was upgraded to a more powerful long-barrel 76mm gun and later to 85mm gun, to keep up with the advances in German tank guns and armour.

PANZERS

Both the new T-34 tank and Zhukov, who was later Russia's top military commander in World War 2, made their impressive early debut there, in the far East. Both were noticed and reported by the Japanese, but the Germans ignored those reports and were therefore shocked when they met the first T-34 tanks in combat later that year when they invaded Russia. The Germans so appreciated the performance of the T-34 that when the German military discussed the development of their next tank, the Panther, one of the suggested designs was simply a German copy of the T-34.

There were still small numbers of the new T-34 when the invasion began, and the rapid German advancement so deep into Russia, as far as Moscow, forced the Russian industry, which already lost countless factories, to an unprecedented operation of literally moving its entire remaining military industry factories over 1000 miles further East, to Siberia, to avoid losing it to the advancing Germans.

TIGERS PANZER V1

In those newly built factories, Russia's military industry restored and far exceeded its pre-war mass production capacity. The furious motivation of the Russian production workers to stop the terribly cruel German invaders which were more brutal than Russia's own brutal Communist regime, and the desperate draconic measures of the Russian regime itself, in which being late to work in a factory during the war could result in 10 years imprisonment, gave the wartime Russian military industry the high efficiency that Communism never reached before or after World War 2. In wartime Russia, workers and soldiers alike were motivated by the desire to revenge and the fear of draconic punishments, and were paid in food, which soldiers and workers received while the rest of the population starved severely during the war.

The immense production rate of the T-34 was further boosted by the fact that massive American and British material support enabled the Russian war industry to focus all its effort on the production of a small number of main weapon systems, while other greatly needed equipment, such as trucks and jeeps, field rations and even some aircraft types, were supplied in large numbers by the western allies.

KV

CHURCHILL TANK

LAST SECRETS OF THE NAZIS

GREAT TANK BATTLES

GREAT TANK BATTLES

RUSSIAN FIGHTERS
