We think of the migrant workers, and meat markets of 1st avenue, the drug-dealers and art-galleries of 2nd the beautiful expanse of developing condos all the way to Westlake of the East, and the haughty Space Needle to the North

It's within this grand man-made prairie of concrete that we all rest our heads, decline beggars and hunker in bars (both dive and trendy). We've been slowly making the rounds to all the local places trying to discern who can sling us the best Pad Thai, and in being perfectly honest, it's been ugly.

Let's check out the local scenery:

Shallot's: Though we've never actually stepped foot inside their establishment (our sheer laziness keeps us between Bell and Blanchard a good deal of the time). We have ordered Spring Rolls, Pad Thai and some Veggies via delivery, and were none too impressed. The rolls were flavorless and greasy, the Pad Thai was chewy and uninspired and we actually had to drain the sauce the Veggies were hunkering down in and replace it with a Gyoza sauce purchased from Trader Joe's to make it palatable. The only good thing to can say is that they deliver.

Noodle Ranch: While the Noodle Ranch's close proximity to our place and tasty looking menu always brings us back for another try, we always leave their establishment thinking that everything could always be a little bit more tasty. Their Pad Thai is a little over-seasoned, the noodles are a little to thin and the tofu and chicken a little bland and uninspired. To add a positive, they will put your order together quickly whether it's dine-in or to go, so that's a plus for a hungry person on the run.

Bell Thai: Though we have never tried their food, we have been assured by the flier in our mailbox that they deliver and serve Thai food (minimum $20). In all honesty, if this were a ranked list, we'd place them above Shallot's by menu and promise alone.

Buddha Bar: In only having been here for drinks, we now realize that we may have missed what looks like an interesting menu and perhaps capable replacement for Jai Thai. In researching their menu, it appears as though they offer a lot of the same style of food and drink choices as our old standby. We promise a follow-up for our readers.
