Yesterday i planned to hunt on a field and try my new XP Deus.
I called a friend to ask what shift he had and he was almost done and would come along too.
We walked in and it was very VERY muddy.
Better wait with this field, let's go to the grass field where we are currently searching.
Once there, we chatted with the farmer and went off in the field.
Got a few signals and lots of junk.
I still need to get familiar with the XP Deus, that was obvious, lol.
We didn't have much time so we randomly hunted on the field, then, a cent.
Not much later, another cent.
But then, silver!
It's an 1841 1 Thaler.
The text on it reads:
Heads: Friedr. Wilh. IV Koenig V. Preussen.
Tails: LXXXIV Einef.M. VI Einen Thaler
Wow, pretty neat.
Also, all coins were pretty deep, don't know if my Tesoro Silver uMax would have found the smaller ones.
I'm going to check that part of the field again soon.

Before i go on a field with my metal detector, i always ask permission of the landowner first.
I wouldn't want to see a stranger in my backyard digging holes either, lol.
Last week i went to a couple of farmers to ask permission to search on their land. The first farmer i asked was very kind and even gave me a tip of where to find something. The reason i was interested in his land was because of what happened in that area during the second world war.
He pointed to another field that wasn't his and said "you should search over there".
I knew that the area has been bombed and shot by Allied forces and told the man i'm not interested in explosives.
He smiled and said "I know what you mean, you should take a look over there anyway".
Now, that's a promising tip right there, i'll explain in a future post why.
I couldn't ask the owner of that land for permission since he's currently in the hospital.

Next, i went to another farmer in the area.
I saw an old lady in the garden and asked her kindly if i could search the fields.
She told me to ask her son, who is the owner, so i walked to the field where he was working.
I explained what i wanted to do and asked permission.
The guy started raging!
YOU'RE NOT DIGGING HOLES IN MY FIELD! he yelled.
I calmly replied that i'm not digging holes with an excavator and that it's not going to ruin his land.
YOU'RE NOT DIGGING HOLES!
Woah, if he had a shotgun, he would probably have shot me off his property.
If it were cornfields, then maybe.
So i pointed to a cornfield and asked if that was his, he confirmed it is his so i asked permission to search on that land.
Guess what his reply was?
Indeed: You can search on that but YOU'RE NOT GOING TO DIG HOLES THERE!
I gave up then but i wanted to know more about the area and if he knew something about what happened there.
I don't know what happened during the war! I wasn't born yet!
Clearly, he didn't like it one bit i wanted some info about the area so i thanked him kindly and left.
What an ahole!

I have been searching with a Tesoro Silver uMax for a while now and it's a great detector.
I've been wanting a bit more options and noticed the XP Deus.
I checked lots of reviews and i really liked the fact that it's wireless, no more getting stuck behind twigs, lol.
It's ridiculous light as well and has LOTS of options.
The reviews were 90% positive and just a few were nagging about some details and i'm sure they didn't even try it for a long time to learn the machine.
I ordered the Deus and picked it up today.

My first impression is WOW!
It's really light and compact, the amount of options is fantastic.
Can't wait to try this detector, too bad it's freezing like crazy at the moment.
Last week i got permission of a farmer to search on his property and i know there was a house on that property early 1800's.
So, that's something i'm looking forward too.

What about the Tesoro?
I'm keeping it, it's a very good detector and i got some interesting finds with it on all kinds of soil.
If you're planning on starting but want an affordable detector to begin with, go for the Tesoro Silver uMax.

More soon.

My first deepseeker, yay. Of course, i was curious and after replacing the 16 (!!) AA batteries, i played with it in the backyard. Too much iron there so i had to wait until we were going out hunting again. Today, i tried it and it does a great job. Although it doesn't cover as much ground as a normal detector, it does find the big stuff buried deep under the ground my Tesoro didn't notice. Too bad the things we found were useless (couple of thick plates and a shovel). Anyway, i like it and will bring it along with me on future trips.

Btw, those looking for a manual for the Fisher M-scope TW-5, check out the Fisher M-scope TW-6 manual, it has LOTS of things in common and it sure helped me

CLUTCH

Check every 6000 km (3684 miles) (6 months).

Remove speed sensor 1.

Remove engine sprocket cover 2.

Screw in adjuster 3 in clutch lever assembly.

Loosen counternut 4 and loosen adjusting screw 5 completely.

Loosen counternut 6 and rotate adjuster 7 to obtain a 5-10 degree play at the end of the throw-out lever.

Tighten counternut 6.

Slowly turn in adjusting screw 5 unil resistance is felt.

From this position, turn out adjusting screw 5 ¼ of a turn and then tighten counternut 4.

Screw adjuster 3 in or out to obtain 10-15 mm (0.394-0.591 in) of play A at the end of the clutch lever.
Clutch lever play: 10-15 mm (0.394-0.591 in)

Idle speed
Check after the first 1000 km (614 miles) (1 month) and subsequently every 6000 km (3684 miles).
Perform the tuning up when the engine is hot.

Start the engine and tune up the idle speed to the prescribed range by rotating throttle setscrew 1.
Engine idle speed:
1300±1350 g/min (1300±1350rpm)

Play of throttle cables
Check after the first 1000 km (614 miles) (1 month) and subsequently every 6000 km (3684 miles) (6 months).
Adjust the play of the throttle cables in three consecutive phases:

Phase 1:
Loosen counternut 1 of throttle return cable B and fully turn adjuster 2.

Phase 2:
Loosen counternut 3 of throttle opening cable A.
Turn adjuster 4 in or out until the play of the throttle cable is 2,0-4,0 mm (0.079-0.157 in) on the throttle twist grip.
Tighten counternut 3 while holding adjuster 4

Phase 3:
Hold the throttle twist grip in fully closed position, slowly turn out adjuster 2 of throttle return cable B until resistance is felt.
Tighten counternut 1 while holding adjuster 2.
play of throttle cables: 2,0-4,0 mm (0.079-0.157 in)

After completing the adjustment, check that the idle speed is not increased by turning the handlebar, and that the throttle twist grip gently returns to it's home position automatically.

More important adjustments can be obtained through the side adjuster of the throttle valve body.

Timing the carburettors
Check every 12000 km (7368 miles) (12 months).
(See page C-73)
