So with the animated applause still in my ears I entered the catacombs of the ultimate arena in Amsterdam.
There was an audience coming in. There was my DVD with a dozen of people eager to have 30 seconds of fame on the holy grass of Ajax...

Jenny Dalenoord visits bookshop KrisKras

One day Jenny visited Kriskras, the children-bookshop. She is one of the most famous post-war illustrators of children-books in the Netherlands. She illustrated more then 150 books. Who does not know the famous book of Wiplala from Annie M.G. Schmidt or the books about the Mouse, Mole and Rat.
''I love her pastels and aquarels'', says Maarten the bookshop keeper.

Jenny was born in 1918 on Java, Indonesia and came to Holland when she was eleven years old. After the secondary school she went to the academy of art in The Hague. She was influenced by Paul Citroen, Rein Draijer en Willem J. Roozendaal.
From 1970 till 1978 she herself was a teacher at the same art-school.
She believes in the fact that an illustration has its own value. A story can not be told by words only. Words are like a bunch of peddle-stones. The illustration has to conquer the space in between. It is the visual concept that tells the story.
Before drawing she deforms her own mental images of the scene. "Willem J. Roozendaal", she told Maarten, ''has influenced me the most. He said to me: look at Picasso, take a look at Braque, look how they change forms."
Jenny developed her own style and her own deformation and became one of the members of the "New Hague School".

Erik Jutten, artist, graduated at KABK unfolded his concept on how people can meet in a hospitable surrounding and discuss about art, architecture and culture. Starting out from his ‘hotel at home’ he decided to build a real hotel as a ‘pre-fab’ constructed Relais Rotterdam. A mix between a dormytory and hotel with 6 bunkbeds each one with a warm water bag, a toothbrush and a pair of slacks. Shower and toilet completed the lot. When, on a sunny Sunday Elise Bakker bumped into his relais near the GEM museum she asked for fun if he had already a qualification of the ANWB, The Royal Dutch Automobile Club. Words came into practice and a few days later one of the ANWB inspectors came by to make an inspection on Eric’s artistic piece of hospitality. Eric’s hotel took the test successfully and since last Friday he can call his relais a ‘ANWB Erkend Hotel’ as shows the official shield on the facade of Relais Rotterdam.

GEM den Haag 22 october 2005.
Starting point of the wall is community painting.Instead of the phenomena of a-social egocentric self promotion, like graffitti and tags on walls.
What you see here is an art form which developed itself from a illegal thing to something where painting in common is important.
As Steven pointed out: '' where group values dictate this is nice this will remain. And it will be painted in the streets. The pedestrian will think this is a graffiti wall. But we will cut it into peaces and we will exhibit it inside this museum. So also the wall will transform itself from the outside to the inner".

So I took the train at dawn. Thinking about the vodcasting mast and how to create an audience.
Does technology cares? That morning Albert van den Berg (Sensor Systems for Biomedical and environmental applications, Universiteit Twente) talked about lab on a chip. I forgot to ask if the mechanisms of apoptosis can also be applied to the internet archive…

The pleas to remove the obstacles that prevent optimal use of new technologies certainly was good for an animated applause in the auditorium of the Haagse Hogeschool.
For now, let us go for the ultimate arena...

Stroom.nlden Haag organized a symposium how to enhance public space by means of interactive networks. It was the result of a contest Fusedspaces2004. Four speakers were invited to present their projects: the wonderful Andrea Zapp, the keen Roland Haring, Giles Lane and the playful Dan Michaelson.

Andrea Zapp (media artist) showed us imaginary spaces of being. She builds environments inspired by the mother of all e-installations (Galloway & Rabinowitz: Hole in space, 1980). But in a more refined way. The project Human Avatars were visitors find themselves present in two spaces at once!!!

Roland Haring (researcher at Ars Electronica Futurelab) demonstrated how digital graffiti could be used in urban space and on wikimaps of Linz as well. Experience that yourself at (hotspotlinz.at)

On 16 september 2005 the chamberchoir esGroot had a concert in the Vredeskapel in the Hague: de Koffer.
It was a musical tour of songs in Ladino, Hebrew, Spanish, Francais and German.
