CPC rejects Presidential polls

2011-04-18T08:18:00.001+01:00

The Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) has rejected results of Saturday’s presidential elections in parts of the country, saying it would only accept the results after they had gone through forensic investigation.

National secretary of the party Buba Galadima said the results were products of barefaced electoral malpractice.

A statement he signed and made available to Daily Trust yesterday read in part: “The Congress for Progressive Change has reviewed the Presidential election held across the country on Saturday April 16 and has rejected the results from parts of the country for the following reasons:

“In our statement of Saturday, April 16 we drew the attention to the low turnout of voters in the South-South, East and South-West geo-political zones. Even some of the state governors from these zones attested to the low turnout of voters. The results released from the South-South and South-East show a turn-out of as much as 70 per cent of registered voters. Our representatives in the field reported absence of elections in many areas in the South-South and South-East. Where did the votes declared come from?

“In areas like the North-West, North-East and North-Central where voters turned out in large numbers to exercise their franchise, there was a low record of attendance! For some inexplicable reasons, the number of votes recorded manually was reduced on being fed into the computer, and consistently with as high as 40 per cent! Who was responsible for such deadly scheme?

“In many parts of country, especially in Sokoto, Jigawa, Gombe, Plateau, Benue, Adamawa, Kwara, Nasarawa and FCT, there were massive abuses and the party would demand scrutiny of the votes credited to the different parties.

“In some parts of the country, people from outside the geo-political zone were ordered to stay at home and not show their faces at the polling stations or they would be arrested and deported as aliens.”

UNDERAGE VOTING AND OTHER IRREGULARITIES

2011-04-17T16:14:00.000+01:00

Across the country, yesterday’s presidential election was generally peaceful. There were also reports of low and high turnout of voters.

In Abuja, there was massive turn out of voters just as civil society organizations (CSOs) under the aegis of Situation Room raised the alarm over the alleged arrest and intimidation of its observers.

In a report made available to newsmen, yesterday, in Abuja and signed by Clement Nwankwo and Jibril Ibrahim, the groups said: “We note with dismay the seemingly systematic and coordinated intimidation and arrest of our observers deployed to observe the presidential election.

“We are particularly disturbed by reports of these attacks in Jos, Plateau State. Although we understand that some of the observers were subsequently released, we have received reports of several other similar cases.

In Warri North in Delta State, three observers were detained. Two were later released; one is still being held. Tellingly, this was the same ward where observers were detained for seven hours during the voters’ registration.

“Another area of serious concern is that of massive thumb-printing which was observed in Soku, Akuku Toro LGA in Rivers State. In Benue State, the chairperson of a publishing outfit was caught in a vehicle with previously thumb-printed ballot papers.

A related issue is that of ballot box snatching. Again in Benue State, six ballot boxes were snatched at Achia Ikyurav-Ya in Kwande LGA, and an undisclosed number were snatched from Pus in Shough council ward, Gweru East LG by Hon. Christine Alaago”.

An underage voter in Keffi

The group also noted that “the problem of underage voting was widely observed in many polling units in Bauchi, Gombe, Kaduna, Kano, Plateau, Nasarawa and Taraba states. In Gombe State in particular, it was reported that irate youths attempted to lynch the Resident Electoral Commissioner and some journalists present who tried to intervene”.

Lagos: 30 thugs, six aliens arrested

In Lagos State, immigration officers arrested six aliens and one under-aged girl, who tried to vote during the election at Amuwo-Odofin.

The exercise was generally peaceful and hitch-free and voters’ turnout was impressive. Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials and security agents arrived at the polling booths on time and accreditation started timely. In many polling centres, a windy queue of people stretching up to 200 metres was seen.

At Kuje-Amuwo, six foreigners, who were trying to vote at some of the polling units within the vicinity were apprehended by immigration officials.

Confirming the incident, Inspector E.O Oduh, said the Immigration officials intercepted the foreigners – three Ghanaians and three Nigeriens – as well as an under-aged, who tried to vote.

No fever than 3 suspected thugs were arrested by policemen and army officers during the elections at Mushin after an attack on a polling centre. The thugs, numbering over 50, reportedly invaded a polling centre at Mosalasi with guns and other dangerous weapons as they created panic with heavy gun firing, leaving prospective voters running helter skelter.

The arrested persons were taken to Area D Command headquarters on along Isolo Road for investigations.

At a briefing, the state police commissioner, Suleiman Abba, described the election as ‘relatively peaceful’, and that he had not been briefed of the arrest of the hoodlums.

Nasarawa: Polling officers flee to palace to escape thugs

Polling officers at Yelwa community in Agwada Development Area of Kokona Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, yesterday, fled to the palace of Sarkin Yelwa (traditional ruler), Alhaji Maiwada Dauda, after thugs, allegedly working for the one of the political parties, snatched the ballot box there and attempted to abduct them.

The presiding officer of Yelwa thugs stormed the polling unit and attempted to snatch ballot materials from the electoral personnel; at 1p.m. after voting commenced at the station.

He said policeman and some Civil Defence personnel attached to the polling station did not act.

The Divisional Police Officer in the area, Mr. Patrick Onah Agbo, confirmed the incident when contacted on phone, saying, “I sent the D.O. (Divisional Officer) in Agwada to go there. The Civil Defence man called him and said that the matter has been resolved there. That they have started voting.”

But a voter there said voting came to a halt after the thugs left with ballot materials.

Osun: Voters apathy
There was apathy in the presidential election in Osun State as the exercise was characterized by low turnout of voters.

However, Governor Rauf Aregbesola, who voted at 12.51 p.m. at unit 001, ward 08, Ifofin area, Ilesa, expressed a different view, saying the outcome of the election at the end of the day would justify whether people turned out for the exercise or not, stressing that most voters only got to the poll centres late.

The governor, who expressed delight at the security situation in the state during the election, said, “The security situation in Osun today was excellent. Osun would have won award for being the most peaceful state during this year’s elections but for the unfortunate incidence of last week where some people including a pastor were killed.”

Edo: ACN members vote Jonathan

THE presidential election in Edo State witnessed large turn out and peaceful conduct with political leaders in the state describing it as a great improvement from the last weekend’s National Assembly elections.

There was no reported case of violence in the state and the presence of the military at strategic areas in the state immensely helped in ensuring security. Election materials arrived the units as early as 6:30a.m. while accreditation commenced at 8 a.m. Sunday Vanguard observed that the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) members were voting for Jonathan.

Governor Adams Oshiomhole; former Governor Lucky Igbinedion; Chief Tony Anenih; vice-presidential candidate of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), Chief John Odigie Oyegun; minister of state for works, Dr Chris Ogienwonyi; former deputy governor and Edo State coordinator for Jonathan/Sambo campaign, Lucky Imasuen and the former chief whip of the Senate, Senator Rowland Owie, hailed the conduct of the election by INEC and expressed optimism that the best candidate will emerge.

Oshiomhole, who spoke after casting his vote at his ward 10, unit 1,Iyamho Primary School, Etsako Central Local Government Council, said: “ I believe that, today, INEC has improved substantially. No body complained about not finding his name in the register or that I wanted to vote but some body blocked me. And I think the security agents have also been fantastic. They conducted themselves in a very civil manner”.

Anenih asserted:”The election is very peaceful. Turn out very impressive. Security arrangement is perfect. INEC arrangement is perfect; it has been an impressive free and fair election”.

Igbinedion predicted victory for Jonathan, saying that “ as a son of the South-South, it is Jonathan and the PDP all the way”. Oyegun, who commended the turn out, stated: “Today’s election was better organized than that of the National Assembly. I am happy that the complaint we made last time as regards omission of names of persons who registered has been corrected.”

Delta: Gun battle as PDP, DPP youths clash

GUNSHOTS boomed, Friday night, at Ugborikoko, Effurun, near Warri in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State following a clash between suspected political thugs of the PDP and Democratic Peoples Party, DPP.

Sunday Vanguard learnt that some vehicles were destroyed during the fracas but no life was lost. However, the incident has heightened the tension between the two political parties ahead of the April 26 governorship election.

A source said trouble started when some youths, suspected to be DPP faithful, accosted Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, who held a meeting with some Ugborikoko chiefs at the home of Chief Joel Akporehe, to solicit the votes of the people for the April 26 election.

It was gathered that some DPP youths insisted they were not carried along by the elders and demanded “settlement” from the governor, as the area is purportedly a DPP territory.

According to the source, the governor was harassed by the youths and when the information got to PDP youths, they mobilized and stormed the area in search of the DPP “boys” that harassed the governor.

Hell was practically let loose, as both sides exchanged gunfire and vehicles were destroyed.

Meanwhile, trading activities at the Ughelli main market was in full swing during yesterday’s presidential election.

Our correspondent who monitored the election in Ughelli North, Ughelli South, Ethiope East, Isoko North, Isoko South and Bomadi local government areas reported that the election was peaceful in the areas.

Ballot materials were distributed to various wards and polling units as early as 7:00a.m. in Ughelli and accreditation of voters started about 8a.m. Unlike what happened during the April 9 National Assembly elections, there was no single incident of ballot box snatching in the areas.

At Otu-Jeremi, Ughelli South local government, the state deputy governor, Prof Amos Utuama, SAN, who voted at 12:10 p.m. at unit 4, Jeremi ward II, said the large turnout of eligible voters was a reflection of the support the people of Delta have for Jonathan.

The state commissioner for lands, survey and urban development, Chief Fred Majemite, the member representing Ughelli South local government in the state House of Assembly, Olorogun Taleb Tebite, former managing director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Chief Emmanuel Aguariavwodo, and former commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs in the state, Dr Ebenezer Okorodudu, who also spoke to newsmen separately, spoke in the same vein.

They attributed the peaceful conduct of the election to the absence of opposition to the president in Delta, adding that about 80% of the political parties in the state had a consensus to vote for him.

10 election observers of the Transition Monitoring Group, TMG, who were held hostage by youths of some communities in the state during penultimate Saturday’s presidential poll, were handed over to the police at the Koko Police Station, Koko in Warri North local government area of Delta state, later yesterday.

Delta coordinator of TMG, Oghenejabor Ikimi, told Sunday Vanguard at 4.00 p.m. that information reached him indicated that the observers were brought to Koko police station, Koko, where they were detained for unknown reasons.

PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION, STATE BY STATE ANALYSIS

2011-04-16T09:46:00.001+01:00

ABIA: The state is a stronghold of Jonathan. He can go to sleep because no other candidate is competing with him in the state. Jonathan was in Abia to campaign. His wife also did. The fact that his wife has an affinity with Umuahia, in Abia State, makes Jonathan the favourite in the state. Again, the Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA), which is major contender in the state, also adopted Jonathan. At the end of the day, Jonathan will carry the day, perhaps, with 90 percent while ACN would come a distant second.

ADAMAWA: The out come of the election will be very interesting in this state, which is the home of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who lost the PDP presidential ticket to Jonathan. Instances have shown that Atiku’s influence is waning in the state. First, Adamawa delegates to the PDP national convention rejected Atiku and voted for Jonathan. Also, in the last National Assembly elections PDP grabbed all the seats in Adamawa.

In the presidential election, it is no more intra-party contest. It is between PDP and others. The crisis in the party that led to the decampment of some PDP bigwigs to ACN and CPC will definitely work against the ruling party in the state. Buhari’s CPC, which is spreading like hurricane fire in the North, will cut a chunk of the votes. This is also the home state of ACN candidate, Ribadu, who may not be disgraced by his people. This sentiment of the North producing the president is still an in issue. This state will be too close to call. Jonathan may have about 60 percent, while Buhari, Ribadu and Shekarau would share the remaining votes.

AKWA IBOM: This is one of the two states that gave Jonathan 100 percent of the votes during the PDP convention that threw Jonathan up as the presidential bearer. South South is the only zone that has traditionally been with PDP, except two years ago when the court voided its victory at Edo State and gave it to ACN. This loyalty the zone has for PDP has not shifted and the sentiment of the zone producing the president, for the first time since independence, is great fillip for Jonathan. At the end, he is going to get about 90 percent of votes, while Ribadu and Buhari would share the rest.

ANAMBRA: This state, ruled by the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), is behind Jonathan. APGA, which is more or less an adopted son of PDP, has already adopted Jonathan as its presidential candidate. Apart from APGA, the Accord Party in the state is also routing for Jonathan. Jonathan will carry the day by at least 85 percent of the votes, while Ribadu, with such politician as former governor of the state, Dr. Chris Ngige, may get 10 percent, leaving the rest for Buhari and others.

BAUCHI: The governor, Isa Yuguda, is fighting a battle of his life to get re-elected. The governor is the campaign director of Jonathan/ Sambo presidential campaign, in the North East. Jonathan defeated Atiku by three votes in sate, at the PDP convention. Against the contentious issue of northern presidency, which is alive in the state, Buhari could score up to 40 percent. Jonathan looks good to get about 50 percent in the state, while Shekarau and Ribadu will make do with gets the remaining votes.

BAYELSA: This is the president’s home state. The Labour Party, which is the alternative party in the state, has directed its supporters to vote for Jonathan. As Chief Tony Anenih threatened, before the PDP convention, that a South southerner that cast a vote for any other aspirant other than Jonathan would be fished out and dealt with, it is like a law in the state that the president is the man. Jonathan will score 97 percent, leaving the remaining for the other candidates.

BENUE: The intra-party squabble in PDP in this state will affect the performance of Jonathan. Some of the chieftains of PDP deserted the party for other parties, which has made the state one of the volatile states. By and large, Jonathan will win with about 65 percent while Ribadu will score about 25 percent, leaving Shekarau and Buhari to share the remaining votes.

CROSS RIVER: The issue of the South South producing the president is still in the front burner. This will sway votes for Jonathan. Some other presidential candidates did not campaign in the state. This leaves the entire state for Jonathan to carry about 95 percent of the total votes, leaving the rest for the other candidates. Even though the UNPD candidate, Ebiti Onoyom Ndok, is said to come from this zone, nobody knows about her and her ambition.

DELTA: This is a core PDP state, despite the fact that the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP) is showing some strength. The politics of president from Niger politics is very strong here. DPP has also adopted Jonathan. In the state, Jonathan can as well go to sleep, as he will have at least 94 percent of the votes, leaving Buhari, Ribadu, Shekarau and others to scramble for the remaining.

EBONYI: Even though the National chairman of ANPP, Dr. Ogbonna Onu, is from this state, some political pundits would want to stake their necks that he would not make the difference against the president. Onu has been in political oblivion for some time and the governor, Chief Martin Elechi, who is the campaign director of the president in South East, will not fail to deliver. APGA, which also visible in the state, is supporting Jonathan. Jonathan will win by as much as 77 percent, while ANPP will win about 20 percent and the remaining for the other candidates.

EDO: The former governor of the state, John Odigie-Oyegun, is the vice presidential candidate of ANPP. This state will be a political theatre to behold. It is going to be a test of might between the “mighty” Tony Anenih and the “little” Adams Oshiomhole. Oshiomhole of ACN snatched his victory from the jaws of lion at the election tribunal. This is another contest to test, between Anenih and Oshiomhole, who is the stronger in Edo politics. At the end, Jonathan will score over 65 percent because of South South and Niger Delta emotion. Ribadu will score about 20 percent, while Shekarau gets 10 percent and Buhari goes with the remaining votes.

EKITI: This is an enclave that PDP lost to ACN at the Appeal Court last year and since then, the ruling ACN is doing everything to uproot totally PDP from that state. At the end of today’s exercise, Jonathan will still get about 35 percent of the votes, while Ribadu gets 40 percent, leaving the rest for Buhari and others.

ENUGU: Like in other South East states, Enugu is just for Jonathan. The other parties that are fighting to unseat the ruling party in the state are equally routing for Jonathan and to the president’s advantage, the other presidential candidates did not do extensive campaigns that could sway votes to them. Jonathan will not get less then 94 percent of votes cast, while the others will fight for the remaining.

FCT: Here is the seat of power, where it is expected that Jonathan will carry the day. But it may not be so, as Buhari will cut a chunk of the votes. The battle is between Jonathan and Buhari, with the president getting about 52 percent, while Buhari gets about 47 percent, leaving the rest for the other candidates.

GOMBE:In this North East state, the governor has done well, which endears PDP to the people. However, the northern presidency sentiment is high here. At the end, Buhari will get about 40 percent votes, while Jonathan will get 45 percent, Shekarau and Ribadu will share the rest.

IMO:Jonathan will not sweat to win this state. The battle is for the governorship election. Jonathan will carry the day with as much as 85 percent votes, while Ribadu will be closest rival, perhaps, with 12 percent. The rest will go to the other candidates.

JIGAWA:Here, the northern presidency quest is high. But not minding the outcome of National Assembly election, Buhari will get 35 percent; Jonathan, 20 percent, Shekarau, 40 and Ribadu takes the rest.

KADUNA: This is the hot bed of northern politics and also the home state of the Vice President, Namadi Sambo. Voters here are in support of northern president. Buhari will carry the day, with not less than 50 percent of the votes, while Jonathan gets about 37 percent. The remaining will be shared between Ribadu and Shekarau.

KANO:: Before last Saturday’s election, no political pundit gave PDP a chance in the state. The issue was Buhari, but that was proved to be false, as PDP seems to get back the state it controlled in 1999, by winning two of the three senatorial seats, leaving one to ANPP. The pattern may change in the presidential election, but as it stands, Jonathan can get above the constitutional requirement of 25 percent votes, while Buhari gets 30 percent. Shekarau would gets 40 and the remaining for Ribadu. The Intra-party crisis in CPC in the state has affected the fortune of the party.

KATSINA: This is the home of the late President Umar Yar’Adua, who was succeeded by Jonathan. One would expect that Jonathan would have his way here, as it is said that he is still running on the Yar’Adua/Jonathan ticket. That may not be the case, as the Yar’Adua family doesn’t seem to have strong stake in the Jonathan presidency and has not come out openly to campaign for Jonathan. This is also the home of Buhari. Judging by the outcome of last Saturday’s election, where CPC won all the senatorial seats, it will be hard for Jonathan to score up to 25 percent votes in the state. At the end, Buhari will get about 70 percent, while Shekaru and Ribadu go home with the remaining.

KEBBI: If Jonathan’s performance at the PDP convention is an index to the outcome of the presidential election, then he should forget Kebbi State. But a lot of water has passed under the bridge and things have changed since then and the outcome of last Saturday’s election points to the fact that Jonathan has taken the state. He will get over 55 percent of the votes, leaving the rest for Buhari, Shekarau and Ribadu to scramble for.

KOGI: This is one of the North Central states that are not so deep in the northern presidency. As it stands, it is Jonathan’s fortress, as he will score over 65 percent, while Buhari gets 20 percent. Shekarau and Ribadu grab the remaining votes.

KWARA:The presidency is not in contention here. What is the issue is the governorship, as Saraki junior and Saraki senior are squaring it up. The governor, Bukola Saraki and also Chairman of Governors Forum is Jonathan’s man and so will carry sway voters to line behind Jonathan. Jonathan will score about 60 percent, while CAN, which is also strong, will get 25 percent, leaving Buhari and Shekarau with the remaining votes.

LAGOS:This is a battle ground in the South West. The intra-party squabbles in PDP will be a draw back for Jonathan. This is the den of ACN and will be difficult for other parties, especially PDP, to have a foothold. Jonathan may not have got up to 25 percent but for the votes of non-indigenes, especially the Igbo, who are deeply committed to the Jonathan presidency. Therefore, he may get up to 38 percent votes, while Ribadu gets 52 percent. Buhari would make do with 10 percent.

NASARAWA: Here, the battle is between Buhari and Jonathan. CPC won one senatorial seat, with a very high margin, while PDP won two seats with narrow margins. Both Jonathan and Buhari will not score less then 40 percent votes each. The other candidates will share the remaining votes.

NIGER: The contest here is between Buhari and Jonathan. At the PDP convention, Jonathan performed very poorly in this state because of the issue of northern presidency. The influence of the governor, Babangida Aliyu, who has delivered good governance to his people and a close associate of the president, will attract votes to Jonathan. It will not be surprise if Jonathan doesn’t get up to 25 percent votes. Buhari may likely get up to 65 percent, leaving the remaining for the other candidates.

OGUN: This is the home state of firebrand cleric and Buhari’s running mate. PDP will pay heavily over the fight between former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Governor Gbenga Daniel, with the latter moving with the soul of PDP to People Party of Nigeria (PPN), leaving the shell to Obasanjo. ACN has latched on this division and therefore, swept the entire senatorial seat last Saturday. If the fence mending being brokered by the leadership of PDP works out, Jonathan will still score about 40 percent, Ribadu, 50 percent; Buhari, 10 percent.

ONDO: This state was controlled by PDP until the court decided otherwise and gave it to Labour Party. Apart from any other thing, the Ijaw presence in the state will count for Jonathan. Jonathan will not get less than 39 percent, while Ribadu will score about 52 percent, leaving the rest for Buhari and Shekarau.

OSUN: A few months ago, the state was ruled by PDP, but the judiciary turned the tide, in favour of ACN. In the last couple of months, ACN has taken over and is running PDP out of the state, as shown in the NASS election. However, Jonathan will still run away with 30 percent of the votes, while Ribadu takes about 55 percent, leaving the rest for the other candidates.

OYO: A man can never win a war with itself. PDP in Oyo has inflicted itself severe injury, with its intra-party squabble. However, that the state is producing, perhaps, the only South West PDP senator in the emerging National Assembly, shows that the party is not finished in the state. Be it as it may, Jonathan will still score about 35 percent, leaving ACN with 60 percent vote and the rest for Buhari.

PLATEAU: The issue of northern president is not strong in the state. The Labour Party, which is on the neck of the PDP in the state, doesn’t have presidential candidate. Jonathan is at home in this state and will win with about 60 percent votes, leaving other candidates to share 40 percent votes.

RIVERS: This is the heart of South South. The president’s wife is from this state. It will be surprising if Jonathan gets less than 93 percent votes in this state. Everything works for him here. There isn’t any serious opposition for the governor in the state. The remaining seven percent votes will be there for the other candidates.

SOKOTO: As a conservative state, Sokoto is supposed to be very emotional about the northern presidency, but that will not stop Jonathan from making his marks, by scoring about 50 percent votes. Buhari, Shekarau and Ribadu would share the rest votes.

TARABA: Here, voting maybe on religious and ethnic line. The high number of Christians in this state will queue behind Jonathan. Again the state, being ruled by PDP, will also be great fillip for the president. Jonathan may score about 65 percent, while Buhari scores about 23 percent, leaving Shekarau and Ribadu to divide the rest.

YOBE: This is the home state of the apostle of rotation and northern presidency, Alhaji Adamu Ciroma. At the PDP convention, bookmakers had anticipated that Jonathan would face his worst defeat in the state, but it turned out that he defeated his opponents, Atiku Abubakar, the product of the northern consensus arrangement, with a wide margin. Today, there will be a great difference, but not to the point of Jonathan scoring below 30 percent. Buhari will go home with 25 percent and Shekarau, 43 percent.

ZAMFARA: Before last Saturday’s National Assembly election, everybody had given Buhari’s CPC this state. But the out come of last Saturday elections upset many, as the battle was between ANPP and PDP. ANPP swept the three senatorial seats. Jonathan will get 30 percent, while Buhari may made do with 28 percent, leaving Shekarau with 40. Ribadu will take the rest.

How do you move your relationship to the next level?

2011-04-14T20:04:00.002+01:00

I am a male, aged 26. I have a girlfriend, and we have been seeing each other for seven months now, but there’s no sex!
She wants to have sex and I do too, but she sees it as impossible because I don’t have my own room/home. I stay with a friend and the place is so inconvenient, plus it’s also a workplace.
She hates the word ‘lodge’ or doing it somewhere else. What can I do? I am afraid I might take too long to get a room and she’ll find happiness somewhere else.

Matthew

Kevin says:
This is silly. It can't be that hard to find somewhere. You need to start thinking outside the box. Stay at a friend's for the night, save up for a hotel room, or give your roommate 20 quid to make himself scarce for a few hours (or minutes). If you want something badly enough, you'll find a way. Like when George Michael used that toilet. You say you live in a workplace? Surely there must be a bed there, with some privacy, somewhere? Or are you kipping in the shop window at H&M, wedged in alongside some dummies?

To be brutally honest, I have a nagging feeling there is more going on here than the lack of a room. Could there be another reason she doesn't want to have sex with you? Are you too pushy? Too smelly? Do you excessively say the word "lodge"? It sounds a bit like she's making excuses. If you did book a hotel, I wouldn't be surprised if she found another reason not to do it - like she's too tired or she's unsettled because the man of the front desk looks like Jeremy Beadle.
Because really there are all sorts of places you could have sex. Be imaginative... on a beach, in a lift, up a tree. Wherever you choose to do this deed, do it quick. Because seven months is a long time, and there are lots of men out there with their own room. And if you're that desperate you can use my place for a couple of hours, for a fee. Let me know.

Christine says:
Seven months? One of you is being very patient here and I can’t quite work out which one. OK, I can see if you don’t even have your own room that your girlfriend might be feeling a little exposed, shall we say. You don’t have to get a penthouse apartment but your own room is the minimum you need if you realistically expect to get any action. Do you really think she is going to want to do it on the kitchen table while your flatmate is reaching for the Marmite? Or in the lounge while everyone is watching ‘Come Dine With Me’? Even if your friend does go out she’s probably worried that he might pop back to get his wallet and you’ll be caught in an uncompromising position. Some women like the element of risk and for others, it can turn them colder than Christmas at the Rooneys.

However, I do feel as though she likes to say ‘no way’ but she isn’t really coming up with many other solutions. If you can’t afford to move then you might just have to spend a bit of money in the meantime taking her out and ending up at a hotel. Don’t feel bad about this, essentially that’s what hotels are for. They’re for people that are bored of/don’t want to/can’t have sex at home. And grumpy businessmen, who would be having sex in their hotel room if they could. It is up to you to make it feel romantic, not seedy and take your time if she’s nervous. By that I mean, take her to a Holiday Inn, not a Holiday Inn Express. I think you know what I’m saying…

Ngige declared Anambra Central election winner

2011-04-12T03:36:00.001+01:00

The controversy over the Anambra Central Senatorial District election has been laid to rest.
Ex-Governor Chris Nwabueze Ngige of the Action Congress of Nigeria (AC N) was last night declared the winner.
Returning Officer Dr. Alex Anene announced that Ngige polled 68,208 votes to defeat his closest rival, former Minister of Information Prof. Dora Akunyili, who scored 68,164 votes.
Mrs. Akunyili ran on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). Senator Annie Okonkwo of the Accord Party (AP) scored 23,346 votes. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate scored 18,578. Two people, Oguguo Okoye and Chudi Offodile, are battling for the PDP ticket.
The Returning Officer, who announced the result at the Tourist Gardens Hotel in Awka under tight security, said he had all authentic results duly written on Form EC8.
“No one else has the authority to declare the result of this election. No result was cancelled; all of them are intact”, he said.
A big row had broken out over the result as Mrs. Akunyili and Ngige claimed victory in the election.
Anene on Sunday alleged that his life was in danger and vowed to quit the job.
He said he was offered N10million, a duplex and a car to announce the result in favour of Akunyili, instead of Ngige, who, he said, won.
Last night, Anene said he wanted to complete his assignment.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Prof. Chukwuemeka Onukogu, had earlier announced the cancellation of elections in 10 wards across four local government areas. He ordered a rerun. He also announced Prof. Charles Esimonye as the new Returning Officer who would handle the rerun poll after Anene’s alleged resignation.
Onukaogu said areas where the rerun election would take place are: Enugwu-Ukwu Ward I; Nimo Ward I and III; Nri Ward II, which has two units; Obosi; - Umunachi; Nkpor and Umuoji.
The wards are in Idemili North, Idemili South, Dunukofia and Njikoka local governments.
Onukogu said he canceled the elections in the four local government areas following protest from Ngige.
Charles Odedo of the ACN had earlier declared winner of the election in Idemili North/South federal constituency.
Akunyili last night declined to comment on the declaration of the ex-governor as winner of the election.
A lady who described herself as the Personal Assistant to Akunyili said on the telephone that her principal “is not the right person to answer this question.”
“If you listened to news this night (yesterday) you would have heard the results that were announced. That is what we know,” she said.

MY FEAR FOR THE OPPOSITION

2011-04-11T08:11:00.003+01:00

MY FEAR FOR THE OPPOSITION

by Bright Iheanacho on Monday, April 11, 2011 at 3:09am

The excitement and euphoria of the preliminary results of the National Assembly polls is everywhere - within Nigeria and outside. The joy of the masses is fulfilling; their voices can now be heard; their rights are protected; their collected senses are not insulted; their wishes have prevailed; they have asked the right questions and have responded accordingly. It is exciting to see the crop of shameless representatives "so-called", packing to leave the assembly for newly elected persons to take over. For once, we are expecting balanced representation and legislation.

What a dream to be fulfilled in our lifetime. All thanks to the executive. The man from Otuoke, who having the state's might, have decided not to wield it unjustly but the allow the populace choose themselves. Goodbye to do-or-die politics; goodbye to politics of the generals by the generals and for the generals; goodbye to fradulent elections by the military in either military or civilian clothes. Welcome to true democracy.

In a these excitement, my fears have remained unabated. Albeit in a different dimension, I fear for the opposition. I fear because a sizable chunck of the opposition are PDP members in opposition platforms. These politicians have either failed at the primaries or have been unjustly substituted. They are PDP members in effect and will cross-carpet in the course of time. This is not new. In 2007, we had Atiku Abubakar under ACN umbrella, Ikedi Ohakim (Imo governor) under PPA, Theodore Orji (Abia governor) under PPA, they have all rejoined the PDP. This does not represent the opposition we crave for. Unfortunately, cross-carpeting is a thriving business among our politicians with a high turnover at each political dispensation.

I have another fear for the opposition - lack of internal democracy. The ease of imposition of candidates whithin the opposition is alarming. Their internal democracy is not in the spot light because every effort have been geared towards rooting out those "shameless democrats and so-called representatives". However, if the current trend continues and the opposition becomes formidable, we might be witnessing a worse party than the current PDP.

I fear we might not develop another round of enthusiasm to correct any ill when this opposition we have trusted so much disappoints us. It is important that we tell them to get the acts right even now. It is important they know that we will mind their conduct even at the party levels. It is important they know we did not choose them to return to the PDP within months. It is important for them not to insult our collective trust in them. It is important that they truly represent the wind of change which they have promised and which we have believed expectedly. It is important we have an opposition and not an annex of the PDP or a different version of the PDP. It is also important that the opposition develops a manifesto which all aspirants under their platform will represent.

Ngige Vs Akunyili: Anaocha Vote Tally Points To Fraud

Created Apr 11 2011 - 02:20

Nigeria’s former Minister of Information, Dora Akunyili, who is APGA’s candidate for the Anambra Central senatorial seat, today condemned her ACN rival, Chris Ngige, for crying wolf over the conduct of last Saturday’s election. However, two sources – an INEC official as well as a police officer – told SaharaReporters that Mr. Ngige was clearly cheated out of victory through vote manipulation in Anaocha LGA.

A statement issued today by Isaac Umunna, Mrs. Akunyili’s special assistant on media, stated: “I am shocked and highly embarrassed that Ngige could stoop so low to make frivolous allegations of rigging in a desperate bid to delay the announcement of the election results by INEC.” The one-time NAFDAC Director-General who represented the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the polls described Ngige’s attitude as one, which is “not only shameful but also smacks of desperation for power.”

However, further investigations by SaharaReporters reveal that Governor Peter Obi engaged in voter intimidation and vote inflation in Anaocha, his local government area as well as that of Mrs. Akunyili.

An analysis of the provisional tally in the Anambra senatorial elections shows that Mr. Ngige might have been a victim of extensive electoral manipulation in Anaocha.

Mr. Ngige has already petitioned Chukwuemeka Onukogu, the Anambra electoral boss, to cancel the fraudulent elections in the Anaocha LGA where the governor’s rigging scheme was perfected.

The provisional tallies show that the ACN candidate would win outright in the election if the controversial vote numbers in Anaocha LGA were removed.

Mrs. Akunyili of APGA currently “leads” in the election through the addition of 22,281 votes credited to her from Anaocha local government. As the current results stand, Mr. Ngige has 65,576 votes whereas Akunyili has 66,267 – a tally difference of less than one thousand votes.
