The building allows the management of the two entities to be under one roof.

The building creates greater capacity and efficiency by having two unique firms working in three trades occupying the same space, working together more closely in the process of design, detailing, fabricating and bidding. This unique "firm" now has the ability to run one contract in all three scopes, assuring the owners and general contractors that they will be responsible for basically the entire building envelope, all under one roof.

The design intent was to showcase A2MG's construction and fabrication capabilities. The space is adorned with stainless steel, exposed steel columns and beams, metal fabrications and detailing unique to A2MG's capabilities as a custom metal fabricator. From the handrails to the stainless steel feature wall, to the "light reflectors" at the steel beams, the interior is a showcase of the contractor's trade. Color was added to enhance the spatial experience and soften the industrial feel.

The majority of the main level is polished concrete, an adaptive reuse of an existing slab. Eighty percent of the building materials can be recycled or are from recycled materials. The entrance canopy has a green roof that can be seen from the stairway to the second level. Bamboo panels define the receptionist's area. Bamboo was placed on top of the steel railing and stair handrails as an added detail and warmth. The bamboo product was selected first because of its sustainability and unique aesthetic qualities and secondly to contrast the concrete, glass and metal surroundings. Indirect fluorescent lighting was utilized throughout, reducing the number of fixtures required to light the space. Also, the majority of the office space lighting is on-demand, controlled by sensors, as you enter and leave the space. Much of the office space is open to the structure above, eliminating ceiling materials. The exposed deck and structure were painted with low- VOC white paint to enhance the reflectivity of the lighting. Low-VOC paint was used throughout the space. The corridor lighting consists of strip fluorescent lighting (T5s), fitted with a custom fabricated metal reflector to provide up-light/reflected lighting. Graphic blasted glass panels provide separation and enhance the open feeling of the space.

A2MG custom fabricated 24-gauge 2B stainless steel canopy fascia in custom red; 0.080-aluminum curtainwall accent panels in custom red; 16-gauge 2B stainless steel exterior feature wall panels with shop-applied custom "Toe-Head" finish; 16-gauge 2B stainless steel interior feature wall panels with shop-applied custom "Toe-Head" finish; and 16-gauge 2B stainless steel faux marble finish applied by hand grinding with shop-applied custom "Toe-Head" finish that was perforated in shop with the CNC Punch Press. In addition to the products from A2MG, the project features 8-mm roll-formed vertical profile panels in a Quartz-Zinc finish from Umicore Building Products Inc.; 22-gauge SP-175 horizontal panels G-90 in Silversmith and 22-gauge panel trim in Silversmith from CENTRIA.

The facility has 121,000 square feet of warehouse, manufacturing, maintenance and fabrication space, along with 24,000 square feet of corporate space on two levels. A2MG products and prowess are on display for all to see and experience firsthand-creative use of materials, coupled with interesting spatial experiences, natural light and color-have enhanced productivity and boosted office morale.

A2MG, Inc. completes work at new Sporting KC Stadium

June 10, 2011

KANSAS CITY, KS – Sporting KC played the first game in their new $147 million, state-of-the-art stadium last night and A2MG was a major contributor in its successful opening. A2MG was one of the main subcontractors on the project with a scope of work that included a translucent roof canopy, metal wall panels and perforated metal fins.

The 340,000 sq. ft. stadium seats 18,500 and includes 36 luxury suites. There are 300 HDTV’s, and a 2000 sq. ft. HD video board. The project was on an ultra-fast design and construction schedule with the owner’s desire to play a significant amount of the 2011 season at the new facility. The construction was completed within the 14 month schedule and according to the owner was built faster than any other soccer stadium in the country.

Some statistics for A2MG’s scope of work are as follows:

<ul style="margin-left:25px; And it had a lyrical, less literal name: “Rivers, Rails and Trails”?

At more than 22 feet high and 49 feet wide, the architectural artwork described by officials as “iconic and visually stunning” will be lighted Sunday on the University of Missouri-Kansas City campus, with a formal dedication Sept. 29.

The historical map, grown large as ornamental stainless steel screens and attached to the Miller Nichols Library addition, will burn magically at night. Think of a dye-injected X-ray, artfully illuminating the city’s arteries.

“We knew constructing this addition was a once-in-a-generation opportunity,” said Sharon Bostick, UMKC dean of libraries. “We wanted to make the most of it by creating a piece of public art that would be significant to the library and university but also pay tribute to the history of Kansas City.”

Actually, there are two identical “Rivers, Rails and Trails.” One nearly covers the west wall of the addition and faces the campus interior. The other is on the east wall, visible from Rockhill at East 51st Street. The 31,000-square-foot building houses the library’s new “book robot,” an automated retrieval system for much of the library’s collection. The retrieval system began operating this summer.

Kansas City Chiefs Training Facility Expansion Scores Big!

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS TRAINING FACILITY, KANSAS CITY, MO.
Contractor: A2MG Inc, Blue Springs, MO.

Story from Architectural Metal, December 2009 - Read Complete Article

Football fans agree the new Kansas City Chiefs Training Facility in Kansas City, Mo., has scored a breakaway touchdown. The gleaming new three-story facility features an office building for staff, two auditorium-style meeting rooms, locker and equipment rooms, and a player and staff dining area. But the building’s most striking feature is its three-story atrium topped by a football-shaped copper roof – fabricated and installed by SMACNA contractor A2MG Inc. of Blue Springs, Mo.

A2MG Inc. installed the 3,500 square-foot roof under aggressive time constraints and in a challenging, limited space. They worked three stories up amid the wind and weather to install the oval roof that is shaped like the Chiefs’ beloved pigskin. The compound radius roof is constructed of 16-ounce copper flat-seam panels and surrounded by 1/8-inch anodized aluminum alloy plate panels around the roof’s perimeter.

The rooftop is also embedded with six pairs of rectangular skylights to provide daylight, and sits above a tall, airy atrium made of windows and steel that inside features player memorabilia and a players’ lounge. The skylights were designed on the roof to form the “seams” of the football.

With this high-profile project, A2MG helped create the unique focal point that symbolizes Kansas City’s love of the game.

Kansas City Wizards Stadium

A2MG, Inc. is currently accepting bids from Minority/Women/Local Business Enterprise Firms to perform as subcontractors or suppliers for the Exterior Glass & Glazing, Metal Wall Panels/Aluminum Fins, Roofing, and Polycarbonate Roofing Bid Packages for the Kansas City Wizards Stadium in Kansas City, Kansas. The machine allows for Five (5) sided processing of extrusions. Quite simply the extrusions are loaded into the machine and are drilled, slotted, notched etc. on top, front, rear or both ends. It has an automatic tool change capability with Five (5) tool holders for Four (4) milling tools and One (1) rotating angle head.

According to Vern Keeth, Vice President of Glass Operations, this machine not only greatly increases efficiencies in the shop, but also allows for more consistency in the final product produced. “With this machine our CAD department, as well as our Fabricators can create programs for the precise drilling and machining that need to be made”, Keeth said, “rather than having to manually lay it out multiple times in the shop, saving time as well as increasing quality and consistency.”

Winner -- New Construction

A2MG, Inc. wins North American Copper in Architecture Award

KANSAS CITY – A2MG, Inc. has won the 2009 North American Copper in Architecture Award for New Construction, for its work on the Colorado College Cornerstone Arts Center located in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The award is sponsored by the Copper Development Association and the Canadian Copper & Brass Development Association . The North American Copper in Architecture Awards recognize and promote North American building projects for their outstanding use of architectural copper and copper alloys. The Awards program showcases a wide range of projects, all of which highlight craftsmanship, attention to detail, and architectural vision.

A2MG was brought into the project early in the design phase, by members of Antoine Predock Architects. The result of the collaborative effort was a panel design and size that virtually eliminated material waste. In addition, the project architects were able to help in the formulation of the custom patina finish. The Arts Center reflects the essence of its location, complete with paths converging on and crossing the site, views toward Pike’s Peak, and an aspiration to the sky. Over 2500 custom 15” x 57”copper panels aid in connecting this vision to earth, in this complex and dynamic Antoine Predock design.

A2MG completed its portion of the project in April 2008.

MU Patient & Care Tower

Current Opportunities for Minority Subcontractors

A2MG, Inc. is currently accepting bids from Minority/Women Business Enterprise Firms to perform as subcontractors or suppliers for the Glass and Glazing Bid Package and the Roofing Bid Package for the PATIENT AND CARE TOWER – SHELL AND CORE PACKAGE, PROJECT NUMBER: CO070093, in Columbia MO. The previously existing building has been completely renovated with a new facade and new office space.

The 145,000 sq ft facility is located on 13.8 acres and includes 25,000 sq ft of first class office space. Another approximately 100,000 sq ft is allocated to the companies' fabrication shops and warehouse space. In addition, due to the large amount of motorized equipment utilized by each company, the building also houses a full service maintenance shop.

The companies employ approximately 200 people and anticipate adding another 100 over the next 5 years. Both companies are in the field of non-residential construction - A2MG provides
Architectural Glass and Metal, while Sellers & Marquis provides Roofing. The combined scopes of work allow the companies to provide one point of contact for the entire exterior skin of a building.

"We have added new equipment," said owner, Jerry Schaefer, "and with our increased production capabilities we intend to expand our presence as a Single Source Subcontractor, both in the Midwest Region and Nationally."

Recent local projects include JE Dunn Headquarters Building, Federal Reserve Bank, Kansas City Chiefs Training Facility, Blue Springs High School and US Post Office Bulk Mail Facility.
