AADAS 2011
18th biennial meeting

Past and Present:
The Importance of History for Dutch-Americans

June 9-10
Lakeland College
Sheboygan, WI

Register now open for the 18th biennial AADAS conference, which will take place in Sheboygan, Wisconsin in June. The advanced registration deadline is May 27, 2011.

The conference theme is "Past and Present: The Importance of History for Dutch-Americans". This conference explores historical themes about the uniqueness of the Dutch in America. In what ways are the Dutch similar to German or Scandinavian immigrants, and in what ways do they differ? This conference will take place in Wisconsin, a state home to large populations of Americans of Dutch and German ancestry. This appropriate setting will provide an opportunity to address Wisconsin's place in Dutch American history, and further explore the ongoing interest in Dutch identity across the United States today.

Call for papers June 2011 conference - new deadline 30 Jan

Past and Present: The Importance of History for Dutch-Americans

Sheboygan Wisconsin, 9-11 June 2011

2nd Announcement, note the new January Deadline

The Association for the Advancement of Dutch-American Studies (AADAS) will hold its eighteenth biennial meeting near Sheboygan Wisconsin, on Thursday-Saturday; 9-11 June 2011. A pre-conference day is tentatively scheduled to tour Little Chute, WI. The local host is Mary Risseeuw of the Sheboygan County Historical Research Center in Sheboygan Falls.

We encourage a session or panel about connections of the Dutch with Germans, Scandinavians and others in Wisconsin.

The call for papers includes these themes, but paper proposals on Dutch-American topics not related to the themes will also be considered.

As has become a tradition now since 2003, submitted papers will be considered for inclusion in a book to be published under the auspices of the A.C. Van Raalte Institute in Holland Michigan.

The program committee consists of Mary Risseeuw, Michael Douma and Huug van den Dool. Proposed papers, consisting of about 300 words, and a one page CV should be submitted by January 30, 2011 to to mrisseeuw@yahoo.com, holland_douma@yahoo.com and hmvandendool@hotmail.com.

If you are interested in being on the mailing list for upcoming conference information, please contact Mary Risseeuw at mrisseeuw@yahoo.com, by phone at 920-467-4667 or at SCHRC, 518 Water Street, Sheboygan Falls, WI 53085.
