The materials I use for my work have been changing in the course of my artistic process or artistic phases. I used watercolor paint on canvas, drawing, wax chalk, ink, glue, collage, newspapers, cardboard, charcoal ... afterwards I was using drawing and digital collage. And recently I have been using digital collage, always with psychological themes treated surrealistically.

I draw and paint since the age of three. My first contacts with Surrealism were in school, in my adolescence, I was glimpsed by the works of Salvador Dalí, all the beauty, the symbolism of the images, everything was charming for me, from that moment and I adopted surrealism to express my ideas. And yet only at the Faculty of Arts did I actually realize my first painting on canvas.

I have always enjoyed reading and knowing about subjects related to the human psyche. About Psychology. Human behavior. I attended for a few years an Institution that studied, reflected and taught on Psychology, Anthropology, Meditation, Self Knowledge, Astronomy, and that deeply influenced my artworks. The knowledge I absorbed I tried to transfer to art... I "tried" to convey in my artworks the reflections on human behavior, the problems, the sufferings, the anguish, doubts, joys, the spiritual, the human evolution. Convert to images feelings, reflections, behaviors ... abstract things of our mind transfer to symbolic images.

“A humilhação é uma modalidade de angústia que se dispara a partir do enigma da desigualdade de classes. Angústia que os pobres conhecem bem e que, entre eles, inscreve-se no núcleo de sua submissão. Os pobres sofrem freqüentemente o impacto dos maus tratos. Psicologicamente, sofrem continuamente o impacto de uma mensagem estranha, misteriosa: "vocês são inferiores". E, o que é profundamente grave: a mensagem passa a ser esperada, mesmo nas circunstâncias em que, para nós outros, observadores externos, não pareceria razoável esperá-la. Para os pobres, a humilhação ou é uma realidade em ato ou é freqüentemente sentida como uma realidade iminente, sempre a espreitar-lhes, onde quer que estejam, com quem quer que estejam. O sentimento de não possuírem direitos, de parecerem desprezíveis e repugnantes, torna-se-lhes compulsivo: movem-se e falam, quando falam, como seres que ninguém vê.”

"Humiliation is a modality of anguish that triggers from the class inequality conundrum. Anguish that the poor know well and that, among them, is inscribed in the core of its submission. The poor often suffer the impact of mistreatment. Psychologically, they continuously suffer the impact of a strange, mysterious message: "you are inferior". El Sentimiento De Culpa

Existen culpas pequeñas y grandes.

Las que permanecen por algunas horas y las que nos persiguen por el resto de nuestras vidas.

Las primeras son esos pecadillos diarios, las mentiras bobas, los pequeños deslices, que en algunas ocasiones hasta nos impiden dormir… pero son pasajeras y acaban volviéndose banales sin que nos demos cuenta.

Las segundas son terriblemente pesadas para cargarse y pueden destruir toda una vida.

Son raras las personas que al sentir la condena de los demás por algo que hicieron, no intenten defenderse o justificarse.

Pero no hay quien al condenarse a si mismo procure aliviar su sentimiento de culpa con razones que lo disculpen.

La cuestión no es por los sucesos sin consecuencias que hacen parte de las mareas de todos los días y nos perdonamos con esa misma facilidad con que cometemos errores.

La cuestión es por las culpas que llegan solas, los accidentes de los cuales nos responsabilizamos, las pérdidas y sufrimientos respecto a los cuales nos decimos que podríamos haber evitado si hubiésemos hecho esto o aquello y nos condenamos a cada instante.

Los auto-castigos no resuelven nada.

El rehusarse a la felicidad no corrige los errores, no compensa los dolores.

El abandonarse no hace seguir adelante.

Dormir más horas para no ver pasar los días y las noches, no va a disminuir el tiempo determinado por Dios para la vida de cada uno; intentar acortar ese tiempo, por medios propios, solo puede acarrear una condena eterna, que nadie se merece.

Somos nosotros mismos nuestros jueces más severos y también nuestros más duros fiscales.

Aún con toda la comprensión, con todo el amor, con toda la ayuda posible, no podremos liberarnos de las culpas si esa liberación no procede de nuestro interior, si no viene con la ayuda de Aquel que siéndolo todo, nos prometió también un nuevo corazón.

Entonces ...

No importa en cuántos pedazos se haya roto tu corazón,

No importa lo que hayas hecho, donde te hayas metido,

No importa cuántas veces te caíste y cuántas te levantaste,

No importa cuál fue tu pecado.

¡ Eres libre !

There are so many wonderful digital artist today, but today, I want to share some work by Paulo Zarbato; born in Brazil, this amazing artist has worked with many mediums during his artistic journey; from finger painting in the dirt of his yard as a child, to painting murals on the walls of a high school as an adult high school teacher. The work I am sharing is only a tiny piece of his amazing on line gallery of work (http://www.paulosergiozerbato.blogspot.com/).

These pieces: Peace of Mind, Mother Nature, and Tree of Dreams, are a few of my personal favorites. Perhaps because they tell a story that my soul can hear. I have found that the pieces I create are most fulfilling when I am able to capture the feeling I have at the moment and translate it into my art in a way that will tell a story that another’s soul will hear and respond to. My Lupus pieces do this for me; and I hope they speak to others who suffer from auto immune disease or any type of disability (Below is my “Tears for the Sun – A Self Portrait”).

What do you think of Paulo’s work? What do you think of digital art in general? Is the digital paint brush as effective as the traditional paint brush in capturing colors and telling a story?

I believe it is. I believe an artist can use any type of media available (even finger painting in the yard) to tell their story and share their visions. Some of course are more lasting; famous oil paintings that tell the historic story of our world have been lovingly taken care of and treasured throughout the centuries; today, we have digital media that will theoretically last forever. Will it be treasured the same way as the old masters’?

I know that for me, going to the museum and seeing the great works up close and personal (sometimes yelled at by guards for looking TOO closely) is thrilling. Will it be the same for digital works? I think so. I sell my digital art in the form of giclee (prints on canvas) and think they are beautiful (if I do say so myself). When printed on a high quality, textured canvas, you can see the brush strokes and blending of colors quite like that of a traditional painting. I can only imagine that the world of online artist palettes will grow exponentially over the next decade as this medium becomes ever more popular with young and old artists alike (much less messy).

Χαμένοι στην απάθεια

Ένα από τα συμπτώματα της κοινωνικής νοσηρότητας, είναι η απάθεια. Είναι η αρρώστια εκείνη που στερεί την δυνατότητα για συμμετοχή, για δημιουργία και οδηγεί με μαθηματική ακρίβεια στον θάνατο. Σε καταστάσεις γενικευμένης απάθειας, οι άνθρωποι απομακρύνονται από τις καταστάσεις που τους αφορούν, αισθανόμενοι ανήμποροι να παρέμβουν.

Έτσι, φτάνουν στο σημείο να νιώθουν κουρασμένοι για την ανάληψη οποιασδήποτε πρωτοβουλίας, προτιμώντας να εμπιστευτούν στα χέρια άλλων την ευθύνη. Αυτή η κατάσταση αφαιρεί οποιαδήποτε διάθεση για αλλαγή και για νέες αξίες. Ουσιαστικά από πιθανοί οραματιστές, οι άνθρωποι μεταλλάσσονται σε όντα εσωστρεφή και εγωπαθή, σε πολίτες “της τάξης και της ασφάλειας”.

Οι οικονομικοπολιτικές συνθήκες δεν είναι η μόνη ανάγνωση για αυτή την παθογένεια. Οι άνθρωποι είναι εξαρτημένοι από το ίδιο το σύστημα. Έχουν προσκολληθεί στις αξίες του, στο χρήμα, έχουν εκπαιδευτεί να ακολουθούν κι όχι να ηγούνται. Έχασαν το πάθος τους, τον ενθουσιασμό, έπαψαν να θέλουν την υπέρβαση, την θέωση. Όχι όμως εκείνο το συναίσθημα αλαζονείας και ξιπασμού που φέρνει ο πλουτισμός. Αλλά ο στόχος που ξεπερνά τα στενά όρια του στείρου ατομικισμού και που ποθεί την ελευθερία και την αυτονομία. Είναι εκείνο το προσωπικό “συμφέρον” που ευννοεί όμως και το σύνολο.

Το πάθος είναι απαραίτητο για την δημιουργικότητα. Η πολιτική πάλι, χρειάζεται το πάθος για τον οραματισμό μιας καλύτερης κοινωνίας. Πολιτική όμως που δεν γίνεται πίσω από κλειστές πόρτες γραφείων, με κουστουμαρισμένους υπαλλήλους των trusts, αλλά πολιτική ως εργαλείο βελτίωσης των συνθηκών ζωής.

Η απάθεια επίσης, δεν ευνοεί την αμφισβήτηση. Ας πούμε πως είναι το ναρκωτικό της συνείδησης, η λάσπη που θάβει την κριτική προς τις δομές και την άρχουσα τάξη. Είναι τροχοπέδη για την ανάπτυξη οποιασδήποτε ριζοσπαστικής σκέψης. Αν πιστεύεις τυφλά στο περιβάλλον μέσα στο οποίο ζεις, τόσο πιο δύσκολο είναι να θες να το αλλάξεις. Αντιθέτως, η αμφισβήτηση θέτει τις προϋποθέσεις για να αγαπήσεις κάτι νέο.

Γιατί όμως οι άνθρωποι δεν θέλουν να έχουν την ζωή τους στα χέρια τους και εμπιστεύονται κάθε επαγγελματία πολιτικό; Γιατί τα θέματα που τους ενδιαφέρουν δεν γίνονται αντικείμενο άξιο προς υπεράσπιση και αντίθετα τα παρατάνε στις ορέξεις άλλων με διαφορετικά συμφέροντα; Πολλώ δε μάλλον να τους επιβραβεύουν και να εγκρίνουν τις τακτικές τους; Είναι ο άνθρωπος πλάσμα που ρέπει προς την εθελοδουλία; Γιατί δίνει ξανά και ξανά ψήφο εμπιστοσύνης σε ψυχανώμαλους;

Στην καπιταλιστική κοινωνία, οι αγνές επιθυμίες και το πάθος (όχι η εμμονή ν’ αγοράσω 40″ οθόνη) καταπνίγονται και είναι μέρος του εξουσιαστικού παιχνιδιού. Ποινικοποιούνται -ακόμη χειρότερα- ή καλουπώνονται σε ακίνδυνες απομιμήσεις. Διοχετεύονται δηλ. σε καταναλωτικά πρότυπα, σε life style και σε παρατάξεις. Ψεύτικες ανάγκες και αρνητικά συναισθήματα όπως ο φανατισμός και ο οπαδισμός, ουσιαστικά γεμίζουν τον άνθρωπο, αναπληρώνοντας το κενό που άφησε το ξερίζωμα του πάθους για την Ελευθερία.

Ταυτόχρονα, καλλιεργούνται memes θυματοποίησης και “θυσίας” των επιθυμιών. Εξαναγκάζουν τους ανθρώπους να παίξουν ρόλους που να ταιριάζουν στο σύστημα, πετώντας την διάθεσή τους για αλλαγές. Δεν είναι δύσκολο να παρατηρήσει κανείς, ότι πιο εύκολα πείθεται κανείς να παλέψει για να εξασφαλίσει π.χ. καλύτερο μεροκάματο, από το να κερδίσει την θέση του να διαμορφώνει καταστάσεις.

Η απάθεια οδηγεί λοιπόν στον θάνατο, γιατί δεν υπόσχεται καμία βελτίωση, κανένα μέλλον και καμία εναλλακτική. Αποτελεί συστατικό χρήσιμο για μια εξουσία, καθώς φτιάχνει ορδές υπηκόων, που όχι μόνο δεν θα της εναντιωθούν, αλλά θα φτάσουν στο σημείο να την υπερασπιστούν.

Αδειάζοντας το άτομο από πάθος, το οδηγούν στην αναμόρφωσή του, γεμίζοντάς το με τα πάθη που εγκρίνει το σύστημα. Έτσι η απάθεια είναι μια κατάσταση κανονικότητας, που “σπάει” μόνο όταν χάσεις το αμαξάκι σου, την δουλίτσα σου και το ψυγείο σου.

Ich realisiere, wie ich mir ein Bild/Image über die ‘Perfekte Beziehung’ ausgemalt habe, sodass ich heute praktisch nicht wirklich lebe, sondern mehr eine Gestalt innerhalb eines ‘Gemäldes’ bin, und dass ich nicht nur mich Selbst, sondern auch meinen Potenziellen Partner/Partner darin gefangen halte – und von uns erwarte, uns ‘bild-konform’ zu verhalten.

Ich realisiere, wie ich über Jahre das ‘Wissen’ angesammelt habe, wie das Bild/Image auszusehen hat, und dass es heute eine Mischung aus Erinnerungen und Erfahrungen ist, die ich selbst angesammelt habe, aber auch mir vorgesetzten Bildern, wie zb. aus der Werbung, Medien, Geschichten, Büchern, Magazinen, von Freunden, Eltern, Institutionen, Religion usw.

Ich realisiere, dass meine heutige Teilnahme an und in einer Beziehung grundsätzlich daraus besteht, dass ich Erwarte, dass eine Beziehung genauso verläuft und stattfindet, wie ich sie mir ausgemalt habe – und wenn sie das nicht tut erlebe ich Konflikte und Zweifel als-mich und in-mir Selbst, weil mir zb. die Grundlage als ‘Wissen’ für eine Interpretation fehlt.

Ich realisiere auch, dass ich diese Konflikte und Zweifel unterdrücke und verdränge, aus Angst ich könnte die Vorstellung der ‘Perfekten Beziehung’ nicht ‘verwirklichen’ – was offenlegt in welchem Ausmaß ich der Sklave meiner Vorstellung/Erwartung geworden bin und dass ich bereit bin mich Selbst und meinen Poteinziellen Partner/Partner als die Wesen, die wir wirklich sind, zu manipulieren, zu unterdrücken und zu kompromittieren – nur um ins ‘rechte Bild’ zu passen, anstatt wahrhaft darauf bedacht zu sein, herauszufinden, ob wir als Wesen zueinander passen, bzw. wie wir uns als Wesen untersützen und fördern können.

Darin realisiere ich, dass ich eine Beziehung immer nur als Etwas ausgelebt habe, wo ich meine Vorstellungen und Erwartungen, aber NIEMALS mich als das ‘Selbst’ eins und gleich mit meinem Potenziellen Partner/Partner ausgelebt habe. Es ging also niemals darum herauszufinden ‘Wer wir wirklich sind’, sondern nur darum, ob wir das geeignete ‘Material’ für die Erschaffung des ‘Perfekten Bildnisses einer Beziehung’ waren.

Darin realisiere ich, dass wenn ich eine Beziehung angezweifelt habe, mein Anfangspunkt darin nicht die Betrachtung dessen war: Ob die Beziehung das Beste für uns als Wesen ist? – sondern immer im Hinblick welches ‘Bild’ wir abgeben, dass es eben nicht so verläuft, wie ich es mir ausgemalt habe, dass mein Potenzieller Partner/Partner sich nicht so verhält, wie ich es mir ausgemalt habe, dass es nicht meinen Erwartungen und Vorstellungen entspricht, wobei ich hier bemerken will, dass es nicht ‘falsch’ ist bestimmte Erwartungen oder Vorstellungen zu haben – wenn man eine Entscheidung in-sich und als-sich trifft, was man in einer Beziehung akzeptiert und erlaubt und was nicht – Und auf diesen Unterschied kommt es gewaltig an – hege ich bestimmte Wünsche und Erwartungen in Bezug auf meinen Potenziellen Partner/Partner aus, weil ich mich in Separation von mir Selbst innerhalb dieser Wünsche und Erwartungen selbst definiert habe? Möchte ich, dass mein Partner ‘zärtlicher’ ist, weil ich mir selbst ‘Zärtlichkeit’ als mich Selbst vorenthalte? Möchte ich geliebt werden, weil ich mich im Grunde nicht Selbst liebe? uä.

Ich verpflichte mich die Erwartungen als die Bilder/Images die ich im-und-als Bewußtsein abgespeichert habe, zu erforschen und alle Separation darin zu entlarven und sie mir selbst zu vergeben.

Ich verpflichte mich meine Erwartungen, Wünsche und Vorstellungen in Hinblick darauf zu erforschen, wie ich sie erschaffen habe, weil ich nur so mir die Macht gebe, Illusionen von Realitäten zu unterscheiden und ich wahrhaft entscheiden kann, welche Erwartungen ich als-mich Selbst beibehalten möchte, welche Konsequenzen diese Erwartungen für mich Selbst, für meinen Potenziellen Partner/Partner und für die Beziehung als solches haben.

Ich verpflichte mich mögliche Konflikte innerhalb einer Beziehung nicht zu scheuen, weil sie doch die Messpunkte dafür sind, ob ich und mein Potenzieller Parnter/Partner tatsächlich effektiv sind, im Sinne von, ob wir das Zeug haben das eigene Ego, das Selbst-Interesse zu überwinden, und bereit sind Wege und Lösungen zu finden, die uns eins und gleich als Wesen unterstützen und fördern – und damit auch die Prüfsteine dafür sind, ob die Beziehung das Beste für uns als Wesen ist.
