I've never really understood people who meta-game purposefully. It's like, to some degree, yeah, real life experience will guide you in a certain direction of thinking during D&D, and having played multiple campaigns will temper that direction even moreso, but I don't understand how any joy can be wrested from sitting down and consciously thinking "Okay, what was the DM thinking with this puzzle? How can I best use skill checks to abuse out-of-character knowledge?"

Well, I just had another three hour game of Power Grid today. It's still insanely fun, don't get me wrong, but the first time was just so much more brutal. Maybe it's because we were more spiteful? Maybe we stumbled accidentally onto the way it's supposed to be played? Maybe it was the thrill of seeing new power plants come out for the first time and wondering how much more awesome they got?

Maybe it was the fact that I won the first game, and not this one.

I haven't played Minecraft for a version or two, but I know that the key gameplay is still the same. I get a different sort of enjoyment from looking at buildings and redstone devices other people have made. No less of an enjoyment, but a fundamentally different feel, bro.

I'm just saying, I haven't met a group of gamers on the internet who didn't descend into some variant or parody of this. Which is totally fine by me, because I made a comic out of it.

Me and some friends recently played Power Grid (Oder Funkenschlag), and I would heartily recommend it to anyone wanting a rollicking good time stressing about dwindling resources, rising power plant prices and overburdened grids. The rulebook took some reading, but the rules are really comprehensive once you get your head around the turn order. Wow, that got really unfunny. I'm sorry.

So I never really got into New Vegas, I'd play it, trying to be a good guy and help people out and stay on everyone's good side. I'd get bored and quit before I left Goodsprings.

So of course when I start the dumbest character build I can think of and shoot all the dominant factions to help out the little guys who can't benefit me, I just get sucked into the world and find myself still playing at 1am. What kind of monster am I?
