Buon inizio di settimana, cari amici!

Questa è la mia ultima "fatica" (per così dire)...
ho usato la stessa tecnica delle pere di Una su, due giù: acrilici liquidi per lo sfondo, e acquerello per i mandarini.
La texture della buccia deriva sia dalla manipolazione dell'acquerello (ad esempio spruzzando acqua sul colore mentre si sta asciugando), sia dallo sfondo variegato creato dagli acrilici liquidi, che, pur essendo trasparenti, sono comunque permanenti e non vengono disturbati dalle velature successive.

Come con le pere, volevo ottenere un effetto "vecchia illustrazione botanica", ma senza spingermi ad un realismo troppo intenso... quasi un gioco tra precisione e immaginazione.
Non so se ci sono riuscita, lascio a voi la risposta...
credo però che la serie di questi frutti non si fermerà qui, mi sto divertendo troppo!

I hope you had a good start to the week, dear friends!

This is my last "effort" (so to speak) ...
I used the same technique of the pears in One up, two down: liquid acrylics for the background, and watercolors for the tangerines.
The texture of the peels comes both from the manipulation of the watercolors (for example by spattering water on the color while it's drying) and from the variegated background created with the liquid acrylics, which, though transparent, are however permanent and are not disturbed by successive washes.

As with pears, I wanted to get an "old botanical illustration" look, but without pushing me too hard for realism... almost a game between precision and imagination.
I don't know if I succeeded, I leave the answer to you...
but I believe that the series of these fruits will not stop here, I'm having too much fun!

Una piccola sperimentazione...

Ho dipinto lo sfondo, anche nello spazio poi occupato dalle pere, con una stesura di acrilici fluidi (Golden Fluid Acrylics, nei colori Quinacridone Nickel Azo Gold, Turquois Phthalo e Quinacridone Crimson).
Gli acrilici sono permanenti, e questo mi ha permesso di colorare le pere con più velature d'acquerello senza disturbare le sfumature dello sfondo.

Credo che ci siano molte vie da esplorare con questo tipo di colori, che abbinano la permanenza degli acrilici classici alla trasparenza e liquidità degli acquerelli...

A small experiment...

I painted the background, even in the space later occupied by the pears, with a wash of fluid acrylics (Golden Fluid Acrylics: Quinacridone Nickel Azo Gold, Phthalo Turquoise and Quinacridone Crimson).

Acrylics are permanent, so I could paint the pears with more watercolor washes without disturbing the nuances of the background.

I think there are many paths to explore with this type of colors, that join the permanence of classic acrylics with the transparency and liquidity of watercolors...

Bulbi di giacinti, "ingannati" dal tepore casalingo, che fioriscono anche in questi freddi giorni invernali... eppure anche noi, come i giacinti, abbiamo bisogno solo di un po' di calore, che l'aria intorno a noi diventi più dolce, per riuscire a dare colore al nostro fiore e spargerne tutto intorno il profumo...

Bulbs of hyacinths, "fooled" by the warmth of home, that bloom even in these cold winter days ... yet, like the hyacinths, we too need only a little of heat, that the air around us becomes more sweeter, to be able to give color to our flower and spread its fragrance all around...

Torno al ritratto dopo un paio di mesi... e devo dire che mi è mancato!
Amo molto dipingere i volti, cercando di catturare l'espressione di un momento, quando l'anima emerge inaspettata... anche quando mostra il suo lato oscuro.

I go back to portrait after a couple of months... and I must say that I missed it!

I love so much painting faces, trying to catch the expression of a moment, when the soul emerges unexpected... also when it shows its dark side.

Il disegno e i colori già pronti: rosso di cadmio, terra di siena naturale, blu cobalto e seppia (per la maglia ho usato anche il blu oltremare).

The drawing and the colors: cadmium red, raw sienna, cobalt blue and sepia (for the shirt I used also french ultramarine).

La prima stesura sul volto e sui capelli, lasciando che i colori si mischino sulla carta, e alternando margini netti e sfumati - in questa fase ho utilizzato un pennello abbastanza grande (10).

The first wash on the face and hair, letting the colors mixing on the paper, and alternating soft and hard edges - for this stage I used a quite large brush (n° 10).

Il volto diventa più definito, con successive velature e ombreggiature, usando anche pennelli più piccoli (n° 8 e 5).

The face becomes more defined, with subsequent glazing and shading, using also smaller brushes (no. 8 and 5).

E qui siamo ormai quasi alla fine, dopo aver dipinto la maglietta con il pennello n. 10, e con il blu oltremare e il seppia che si mescolano liberamente sulla carta...

And here we are almost at the end, after painting the T-shirt with a brush N° 10, and with french ultramarine and sepia mingling freely on the paper...

Ed eccovi svelato il piccolo progetto che vi avevo anticipato, e su cui sto lavorando da qualche settimana: i Dipinti in cucina!

Tutto nasce da un'abitudine che si è consolidata negli anni: la verdura e la frutta di stagione, appena comprata e appoggiata sul tavolo da cucina... la meraviglia per le texture e i colori di questi piccoli tesori della terra... la voglia impellente di farne uno schizzo, di fermare tutta questa bellezza sulla carta con l'acquerello...

Ho riempito pagine e pagine del mio sketchbook, dipingendo mentre le narici si deliziavano dei profumi tenui o intensi, e pregustavo il sapore del frutto addentato, della verdura cotta con gli aromi...

E allora ho pensato: perché usare solo le pagine di uno sketchbook per questi acquerelli?
perchè non dipingerli su una carta raffinata, di puro cotone, e farne dei piccoli studi?
perché non proporli anche a chi, come me, ama questi colori e queste texture?

E da questo pensiero sono nati i Dipinti in cucina!
Ognuno di 21 x 15 cm, possono diventare piccoli quadretti, magari in una serie di 2 o 3, e accompagnare i nostri cibi in cucina con la loro versione dipinta...
oppure possono essere donati a una persona cara per Natale o per il compleanno: alla mamma, alla nonna... o all'amico che ama cucinare!

And here is the small project that I told you about, and that I have been working on in the last few weeks: the Paintings in the kitchen!

Everything began from a habit that has been consolidated over the years: the vegetables and fruits of season, just bought and resting on the kitchen table... the wonder around the textures and colors of these little treasures of the earth ... the urgent desire to make a sketch, to catch all this beauty with the watercolors on the paper...

I filled pages and pages of my sketchbook, painting while my nostrils was delighted by the subtle or intense scents, and I was looking forward to bite the flavor of the fruit, to savour the vegetables cooked with spices...

And then I thought: why use only the pages of a sketchbook for these watercolors?
why not paint them on a fine pure cotton watercolor paper, making of them some small studies?
why not propose them even to those who, like me, love these colors and these textures?

And with this thought were born the Paintings in the kitchen!
Each 8" x 6", they can be framed, perhaps in a series of 2 or 3, and accompany our food in the kitchen with their painted version...
or they can be a cute gift to a loved one for Christmas or a birthday: to your mother, to your granny... or to a friend who loves to cook!

A volte è necessario fermarsi un po', e respirare...

per me fotografare significa anche questo: respirare tra una corsa e l'altra, e prendere nota delle piccole cose che la vita semina intorno a me...

mentre attendo che venga il tempo della calma, il tempo in cui posso finalmente dipingere.

Sometimes you need to stop for a while, and breathe...
for me photographing means also this: breathing in the middle of a busy day, and taking note of the small things that life sows around me...
while I am waiting for a time of quiet, a time when I can finally paint.
