Mobius (est. 1977) is a non-profit, artist-run organization, whose mission is to generate, shape and test experimental art. The members of the organization believe an effective strategy for supporting this art is to establish grounds that build relationships among fellow artists. Mobius is committed to structuring environments that foster projects incorporating a wide range of disciplines. This approach sets in motion situations where the artist's impact can be seen locally, nationally and internationally. Constructing art initiatives outside accepted frameworks and encouraging animated discourse with the public are fundamental to Mobius.

Mobius has long been committed to creating artist exchange projects bringing artists from different geographic regions to work together. The international exchange projects with artists from Macedonia, Croatia, Poland, and Taiwan have focused on site-specific and publicly-sited work. Mobius has presented work involving thousands of artists over its 30-year history and is recognized as one of the seminal alternative, artist-run organizations in the U.S.

Founded by Marilyn Arsem in 1977, Mobius is known for incorporating a wide range of the visual, performing, and media arts into innovative live performance, video, installation and intermedia works. Mobius has produced hundreds of original works that have attained critical acclaim in Boston, nationally and internationally. Works created at Mobius have been presented throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia.

Dear Artist,

All artists will receive a free "e-book".

This spring, Quetzalcoatl Gallery is planning to
publish a book about the exhibition A BOOK ABOUT DEATH SEATTLE. The book
will cover the month of activities at the gallery and related material.
After the project firms up, we will email you the particulars of how to
cite this publication on your resume. The gallery would like to have a
page featuring each artist, poet, musician, writer or contributor to the
project. In order to arrange the artist pages, we are asking you to please
submit the following so that we have all the information in one document:

1) A jpeg of the image (300DPI is adequate) if you are an artist with work
on the Quetzalcoatl Gallery wall to almendra@almendrasandoval.com
2) Your portrait/ professional picture if you are an artist, writer, poet,
musician or other contributor
3) Your name & Country of origin
4) Biography/artist statement about your image or your participation in
the exhibition 250 words maximum

My First Public Reading
My friend and former supervisor/director from my past life as an English teacher, Herb Sundvall, is involved as co-curator of an international art and photography exhibit on the theme of A Book About Death. This exhibit is about different views and approaches to mourning, death, dying, coping, etc. There will be exhibits in different cities in the world. The original mail art copies from the New York exhibit two years ago are in the archives of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.

Fran Gallo

Fran Gallo grew up in an Italian family in NW Indiana. She is the only family member born in the USA, her parents and sisters having immigrated from the small village of Grotte near Agrigento, Sicily. She is fluent in Italian and fluent in her parent’s Sicilian dialect, “Grutisi.” She graduated from Indiana University, studied French literature and culture at the Universite de Strasbourg in France for one year. Fran was a Peace Corps volunteer in Ziguinchor, Senegal, in West Africa. She later spent three years in Japan where she met her husband, Rick Clark.

Mitsu Sundvall

Mitsu speaks of her experiences as a Japanese American child in a Japanese internment camp and what it was like to enter a public school in Berkeley, California after the war. Another child was instructed to befriend Mitsu to help her feel more comfortable in school. She did, and she and Mitsu became friends for life. Mitsu's friend of over 60 years died last week and this reading is for her.
