Over the past 12 months, the American consumer has gone through a huge transformation – morphing from devoted and enthusiastic shoppers to cautious and worried customers. But Lee Eisenberg, the author of the national bestseller The Number, believes that this is an opportune time to re-examine both the dark and bright side of our national pastime. In his new book Shoptimism: Why the American Consumer Will Keep on Buying No Matter What (Free Press; November 3, 2009), Lee explores the evolution of our long-standing relationship with consumption.

He’s spent the past three years researching the Buy world, interviewing shoppers and industry experts, and takes readers on an entertaining and thought-provoking tour of the world of malls, megastores, and online shopping. Lee also has firsthand experience in the shopping world – he was a senior executive at Lands’ End for several years, and is currently a creative consultant working on several women’s brands. And, in order to experience the madness of the holiday shopping season, he even worked at Target as a floor walker in 2007.

In Shoptimism, Lee interviews everyone from the industry’s best known retail consultant Paco Underhill to brand expert Albert Muniz to his own wife whom he joins on her quest in search of the perfect little black dress. The first part of the book is an exploration of the interconnected worlds of marketing, retailing, advertising, and consumer research – “the Sell Side,” as he calls it – all of which conspire to captivate our hearts and capture our minds in the effort to convince us to open up our wallets. Lee visits neuroscientists using state-of-the-art technology to scan the brain – did you know that some of us are wired to be cheapskates, while others of us are predisposed to being spendthrifts? It has to do with how the brain registers “the pain of paying,” which is signaled by specific regions of the brain.

The second half of Shoptimism is a journey directly into our hearts and minds – Lee asks, “Why do we buy?” Social status? Feel-good therapy? Are we attracted by specific brands that reflect our personal identity, or the identity we aspire to? What’s the difference – if any – between what we want and what we think we need? Lee explains why we behave in rational but usually irrational ways when we walk into a store, alone or with family or friends. With Shoptimism, Lee Eisenberg has created the ultimate guide for shoppers.

For free-spending Americans, as well as those of us who have pulled in the reins on our shopping habits, Shoptimism is an engaging read perfectly timed to illuminate the American consumer’s mood and behavior in this most unusual moment in Buy time.

Lee Eisenberg's last book was the New York Times bestseller, The Number: A Completely Different Way to Think About the Rest of Your Life, chosen by BusinessWeek as one of the best books of the year. He is the former editor in chief of Esquire, and currently lives in Chicago with his family. Lee is blogging about shopping at www.LeeEisenberg.com.

Dove’s mission is to reach 5 million girls with self esteem programming by 2010. Since 2005, Dove has reached over 3.5 million girls globally. In 2009, Dove wants to recognize those who have supported the Campaign for Real Beauty. Because of this previous support, Dove is now promoting the “Thank You for Making a Difference” campaign.

Want to participate? Here's how! Share what your daughter feels makes her beautiful or what she learned from a self esteem program. Then upload your daughter’s 30 second video to the Dove Self Esteem Fund Facebook page by 11/20/09. Directions and link to post here: http://www.facebook.com/DoveSelfEsteemFund?v=app_10467688569

DON'T FORGET - leave a comment here that you uploaded your video! The top 5 sites with most videos (including the #1 site) will receive a $1000 donation from Dove in their site’s name to the local chapter of a partner charity that builds self esteem.

Lastly, your Dove purchase also helps build self esteem. Enter your Dove UPC on Facebook here http://www.facebook.com/DoveSelfEsteemFund?v=app_10467688569 and select a charity. Dove will donate $1 to inspiring self-esteem programs at a charity partner of your choice. Select one: Girl Scouts, Boys and Girls Clubs of America and Girls Inc.

Thank You for Making a Difference!

With winter coming up fast, it's important to keep covered up. Especially the little ones. And what better than cute baby shoes from Beibi, the same people that brought the Wee Squeak shoes that you might seen mentioned in a variety of publications, both in print and online.

About Beibi Shoes:

As parents of infants and toddlers, our inspiration for WeeSqueak shoes was watching our children in these shoes. We discovered these little gems while in China adopting our oldest daughter, Chloe. However, during the adopting of our youngest daughter, Ellie, we had the idea to bring some shoes back for our friend's children. Our company, WeeSqueak, was born! We are fun parents, with fun shoes for fun kids! Wee Squeak donates 5% of our profits (up to $1,000 contribution per charity per year) to Half the Sky and to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

My daughter absolutely loves her Iris Silver Baby Shoe. Shiny silvery pink with a happy butterfly perched on the toe, these shoes are so adorable and keep her little feet warm and comfortable. They come in a variety of sizes from 0-6 months, all the way up to 24months. One thing though - unlike the popular Wee Squeak shoes, the Beibi shoes do not squeak. My daughter hasn't worn them for long, but I have no doubt these well constructed shoes will wear well and hopefully, she won't outgrow them too soon!

They also have a nice collection of the Beibi line of shoes for little boys as well.

In the age of convenience, bottled water has become a very popular drink, fitting in well with many new, modern lifestyles, providing portability and easy access to purified and sanitized drinking water. The debate between whether or not bottled water or tap water is better to drink has recently become a hot topic for discussion.

ChicagoHealers.com Practitioner, Dr. Raymond Hatland, DDS shares his expert advice on the bottled vs. tap water debate, stating:

“Fluoride in water is both positive and negative, depending on who is drinking it. There is concern that the fluoride in tap water reacts with trace chemicals in tap water making them more carcinogenic. In my opinion, fluoride is best applied topically by your dentist or hygienist for the most effective protection of your teeth with minimal systemic side effects.”

Dr. Hatland breaks down the pros and cons of each type of water:

Bottled Water
PROS:

Safe from bacteria

Can be free of fluoride

Portable

Can have an alkaline pH

CONS:

Expensive

Usually has a very acidic pH

No fluoride

Few nutritional minerals

May contain unacceptable levels of the plastic chemicals (bisphosphonates)

Tap Water
PROS:

Cheap

Basically safe

Easily available

Contains fluoride which can help prevent tooth decay

Neutral or slightly alkaline pH

Usually contains some good minerals

CONS:

Can be polluted with many industrial chemicals not totally removed by water purification systems

Potentially contain excessive amounts of iron, sulfur or fluoride

May draw lead or copper from pipes

Can be contaminated with bacteria and waste products from occasional flooding

I prefer tap water, usually filtered, as I believe in developing a certain amount of resistance to bacteria and other stuff from daily use. I fill them up in reusable and eco-friendly stainless steel bottles and take them with me wherever I go. Easy, cheap and simple.

What's your choice?
A recent study showed that Women who ate breakfast regularly tended to eat fewer calories throughout the day, and both men and women had lower overall fat intake. And, as mentioned in the article, high-fiber foods are recommended because they help satiate hunger. That's why we love Uncle Sam's all-natural, 100 percent whole grain Cereal.

Uncle Sam <babyproducts.guide@about.com>comes in two delicious flavors - Original (</babyproducts.guide@about.com>A unique blend of toasted whole wheat flakes and flaxseed<babyproducts.guide@about.com>) and Mixed Berries (</babyproducts.guide@about.com>the same wholesome cereal as the original, with the addition of real blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries.

Its Benefits include:

100% Whole Grain – The “rolled berry” flakes in Uncle Sam Cereal preserve the natural fiber, nutritional value and flavor of the wheat, making every flake of Uncle Sam Cereal a true whole grain. Whole grains are a rich source of several vitamins and minerals, including antioxidants and phytochemicals, which may reduce the risk of heart disease, cancer and the effects of aging.

Omega-3’s from Flaxseed – Nearly all of the fat in Uncle Sam Cereal is heart-healthy fat from flaxseed, which is one of the best sources of plant omega-3 “essential” fatty acids that cannot be made by the body. Flaxseed also contains lignans, plant compounds that influence human metabolism. Omega-3 and lignans may help reduce the risk of some cancers, heart disease and inflammatory disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis.

High Fiber – A single serving of Uncle Sam Cereal contains a whopping 10 grams of dietary fiber (8 grams insoluble, 2 grams soluble). Fiber helps maintain blood sugar levels, which is important for those trying to lose or maintain weight and improve energy. It also may help reduce the risk of diabetes, aid in lowering cholesterol and promote regularity.

Less than 1 g Sugars (per serving) – Uncle Sam Cereal uses only a touch of barley malt to enhance the natural sweetness of the wheat flakes. Unlike other high-fiber cereals, it contains no cane sugar, no high fructose corn syrup and no artificial or synthetic sweeteners.

Uncle Sam Cereal is also low sodium, low glycemic, and contains no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives.

Buy it! Uncle Sam Cereal is available at most supermarkets nationwide for approximately $2.39. It is also available in natural food stores, Trader Joe’s and Walmart supercenters.
Mom Central sent me a gift card to thank me for taking the time to participate.
When I first learnt I was pregnant, the first thought that stuck me was a panic-stricken : Oh God, how will I properly take care of an infant? What will I feed it?

Recently, a remarkable new website was unveiled - InfantNutritionCenter.com - which takes us on a unique and powerful visual journey through infant nutrition and development. As soon as you go the site, you can see a video with amazing visuals that reveals how proper nutrition shapes development and how individual nutrients affect the senses, bone formation, and the immune system of infants. I especially liked how the data and other aspects are visually depicted in 3-D images, and that kept me watching fascinated the whole time the video was running. I was also able to read about latest research findings and explore more about them through accompanying video, pictures, and graphics.

Things I personally didn't know and newly learned at this site :

In an infant's first year of life, the baby's brain will nearly triple in size.

Breast milk is rich in intestinal growth factors and other components that help establish the colonization of the GI tract by beneficial bacteria, which in turn help the intestinal lining mature as well as prevent the spread of pathogenic microbes.

While the developing fetus depends on the blood glucose from the mother to supply its carbohydrate needs, a newborn relies primarily on lactose from breast milk.

Bone begins its development at six weeks gestation as tightly wound chains of the protein collagen. Minerals from the blood join the protein structure and begin hardening into the extraordinarily strong living material that comprises bone.

Infants use 60% of the calories they consume for brain development.

I took special comfort from this - Though it might seem like small comfort to bleary-eyed parents in the middle of the night, the changing sleep-wake patterns of their infants represent baby brains hard at work.

Developed as a resource for Moms, the website brings together information from leading health centers and researchers across the country to explain how nutrition is crucial to infant development. And although Mead Johnson, the makers of the Enfamil brand of formula, are the sponsors for this site, the site itself has nothing to do with endorsing their products. In fact, it's part of VisualMD, a site that offers a rich, visual experience on a variety of health issues.

I'd encourage anyone interested in infants and nutrition (and not just new or would-be parents) to check out InfantNutritionCenter.com. It's truly fascinating to see in what simple yet complex ways, a baby develops and what we can do to affect this miraculous change.

Children are our most precious gift. They're limitless possibility personified. And as adults it's our duty to bring out their natural talents and gifts. Here are some tips to do this, from Rafe Esquith, author of Lighting Their Fires: Raising Extraordinary Children in a Mixed-up, Muddled-up, Shook-up World.

It'd be nice if there was a secret I could tell you about how to instantly make your kids more successful in school and life. But there is no magic pill, only that old stand-by, hard work. And the funny thing about that is, you can't force kids to work hard. I suppose you could try, but I've rarely seen anything useful come from kids whose parents had to hold their noses to the grindstone. If there's something close to a secret, perhaps it's this: Kids work hard when they want to work hard, and this happens only when are motivated to do so by some positive internal goal, and not by fear or because they are worried about disappointing others. They work hard because they value hard work. Instilling kids with values like this is the first step the long road to real success.

But that doesn't mean there's nothing you can do to make this happen. Here are five ways to put your kids on the path to extraordinary:

Toot Your Own Horn.
Ask anyone who knows me and they'll tell you I sound like a broken record when it comes to spreading the gospel of music education. Put simply, every child should play an instrument, and parents should make whatever sacrifices are necessary to put a flute, trumpet, guitar, or tuba in their kid's hands. I don't have room here to list all the valuable skills that playing music can help develop, but one of the most important is the ability to listen to others: to make great music, a child must learn to pay attention to what others are playing. Doing so improves focus and teaches a valuable lesson about collaboration.

Be the Example.
We've probably all seen a parent yelling at her kids to be quiet and perhaps chuckled to ourselves about the mixed signals sent by this gesture. It seems like an easy lesson: for kids to understand why things are important, you have to be consistent. But this isn't just situational advice. Kids mirror parents and adults in far more depth than we often realize. They internalize our values by watching what we do, which is why it's essential that we live the way we want them to live. We can stress the importance of being on time until we're blue in the face, but if we're constantly late to pick them up from school, that's what they're going to remember.

Great Books are Great for a Reason.
Kids have two backpacks: the physical one they carry their books in, and the mental backpack where they store all the lessons and experiences they'll use to help make decisions. A paperback copy of To Kill a Mockingbird won't take up much room in the first one, but the wisdom contained within this book can be carried in the mental backpack for a lifetime. There are lessons here about choosing generosity over selfishness, making the right choice even when it's the difficult one, and standing up for your beliefs. I also recommend Thornton Wilder's fantastic play Our Town, and anything by Shakespeare (important note: kids are never too young for Shakespeare). A kid with a library card has the world at her fingertips, and when parents read with her, they can serve as map to help make sense of that world.

Do Unto Others.
Volunteering is a great way to build character and teach values while making an important contribution to the community. Working at a soup kitchen on Thanksgiving, visiting an elderly person at a retirement home on a regular basis, or planting trees and helping to beautify your town are all great ways to help kids learn about the importance of selflessness and humility. I know several families who volunteer together on a holiday schedule: on each day off, they pick a different activity and spend a few hours volunteering together. This way, parents get to be the example, reinforcing the positive message.

Patience, My Dears.
In today's on-demand world, kids are taught that anything worth having can be had instantly. This is an incredibly bad lesson, and parents must work to counteract this by instilling kids with patience and focus -- the skills that will let them buckle down to achieve the truly great things that invariably take much time and effort. I've found that gardening is an excellent choice when it comes to teaching patience. Kids see that reaching their goal is a slow process, one that requires dedicated care and attention at every phase. And since they get to watch their garden grow as they tend to it, they learn that the real pleasure is in the process (though ripe tomatoes are certainly also a pleasure, and tasty!).

You may have noticed that most of these "success" tips don't have anything to do with school. That's because making kids extraordinary people is the first step toward making them extraordinary students. All follows from values and character, and in working to instill these, you'll create kids that you -- and the rest of the community and country -- can be proud of.
Is your kid-safety IQ as high as you think? You might be exposing your child to dangerous situations without even realizing it.

The November 2009 issue of ShopSmart, from the publisher of Consumer Reports, tests your knowledge of some major dangers:

True or false: It’s OK to let kids ride in the front seat of a car when they’re 12 years old.
Answer: FALSE
Even with a seat belt, all kids under age 13 should ride in the back seat. Crash statistics showed that children under 13 were up to 35 percent less likely to be killed in a crash if they were riding in the back seat. Front seats equipped with an air bag are especially dangerous.

True or false: At 60 pounds, your grade-schooler no longer needs a booster car seat.
Answer: FALSE
Children should stay in a booster seat until adult belts fit correctly, usually when they reach 4 feet 9 inches, between the ages of 8 and 12. Height, not weight, is the key.

True or false: Alcohol-based hand sanitizers can be poisonous.
Answer: TRUE and FALSE
The small drop your child puts on her hand evaporates on contact, but the ethanol content can be dangerous if enough sanitizer is ingested. Keep easy-to-open bottles out of your child’s reach. If she puts hand sanitizer into her mouth, call the Poison Help Hotline at 800-222-1222.

True or false: It’s safe to follow the “5-second rule” when picking food or a pacifier up off the floor.
Answer: FALSE
Five seconds is enough time for bacteria to latch onto something you drop on the floor. No matter how fast you are, toss the food or wash the pacifier (at least with water) and dry it thoroughly with a paper towel before giving it back to your child.

True or false: Kids older than 6 can safely sleep in the top bunk.
Answer: TRUE and FALSE
Every year almost 36,000 children are injured in bunk-bed accidents. Kids under age 9 have the most injuries, but accidents happen at all ages.

True or false: Thick grass under the backyard jungle gym provides enough padding to protect kids if they fall.
Answer: FALSE
Each year about 50,000 children end up in an emergency room because of injuries on home playground equipment. The best way to prevent injuries is to cushion the area with wood mulch or chips, engineered wood fiber, or shredded/recycled rubber mulch under equipment up to 8 feet high and sand or pea gravel under equipment up to 5 feet high. The padding should be at least 9 inches deep and extend 6 feet in all directions from the gym.

Those are some really good tips. I admit, I didn't get them all correct. What about you?
The Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding
By Marianne Neifert, M.D.,
Author of Great Expectations: The Essential Guide to Breastfeeding

In 1991, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the World Health Organization (WHO) jointly launched the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) to promote, protect, and support breastfeeding by encouraging and recognizing hospitals and birthing centers that implement “The Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding,” as outlined by UNICEF and WHO. The following ten steps summarize the BFHI recommended practice standards for all facilities that provide maternity services and care for newborn infants. These ideal practices should help you know what to ask for at your own hospital to assure the best possible start with breastfeeding. To learn more about the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative in the United States, contact www.babyfriendlyusa.org.

1. Have a written breastfeeding policy that is routinely communicated to all health-care staff. The written policy should address all ten steps, prohibit the promotion of formula, be available to all staff, and be evaluated for its effectiveness.

2. Train all health-care staff in skills necessary to implement this policy. All staff should be trained in the advantages of breastfeeding and the basics of practical management. Selected staff members should receive specialized training to allow them to serve as resource people.

3. Inform all pregnant women about the benefits and management of breastfeeding. Pregnant women attending prenatal services at the hospital should be informed about the benefits and practical aspects of breastfeeding.

4. Help mothers initiate breastfeeding within one hour of birth. Healthy babies should be given to their mothers to be held skin-to-skin within thirty minutes of delivery and allowed to remain with their mothers for at least an hour. Mothers who have had cesarean deliveries should be given their babies to hold skin-to-skin within a half hour after they are able to respond to their babies.

5. Show mothers how to breastfeed and how to maintain lactation, even if they are separated from their infants. Nursing staff should offer all mothers further assistance with breastfeeding and verify that mothers can demonstrate correct breastfeeding technique. Mothers of babies in special-care nurseries should be shown how to express their milk frequently to maintain lactation.

6.Give newborn infants no food or drink other than breastmilk, unless medically indicated. Staff should know the valid medical reasons for offering supplements to breastfed infants. Formula used in hospitals should be purchased by the facility and not accepted for free or promoted in any way.

7. Practice rooming-in -- allow mothers and infants to remain together twenty-four hours a day. Rooming-in should start within an hour of a normal birth or within an hour of when a cesarean mother can respond to her baby. Separations should occur only for necessary hospital procedures or medical indications.

8. Encourage unrestricted breastfeeding. Mothers should be advised to breastfeed whenever their babies show signs of hunger. No restrictions should be placed on the frequency or length of feeding

9. Give no pacifiers or artificial nipples to breastfeeding infants. Mothers should be taught to avoid pacifiers and bottle feeds because they can interfere with breastfeeding.

10. Foster the establishment of breastfeeding support groups and refer mothers to them on discharge from the hospital or clinic. Key family members should be taught how to support the breastfeeding mother at home. Hospitals should have a system of follow-up for breastfeeding mothers after discharge, such as early prenatal visits, home visits, or telephone calls.
And as a blogger, I'm often in need of inspiration to blog stuff about. I decided to combine the two and will be bringing an "Interesting tidbit" feature from now on, whenever possible.

Today's inspiration came from the book, Evidence of Murder by Lisa Black. The cause of my interest : The Lorain-Carnegie Bridge, now known as the Hope Memorial Bridge. Reason for my interest - Pairs of statues designed by sculptor Henry Hering and architect Frank Walker (titled the "Guardians of Traffic") stand on pylons at each end of the viaduct, symbolizing progress in transportation.

This is a 5,865 foot (1,787 meter) long art deco truss bridge crossing the Cuyahoga River in Cleveland, Ohio. It stands 93 feet (28 meters) above the waterline in order to allow shipping to pass. The bridge connects Lorain Avenue on Cleveland's west side and Carnegie Avenue on the east side, terminating just short of Progressive Field. When it opened in 1932, this new steel-and-concrete structure stood nearly a mile long and consisted of 13 cantilever truss spans varying in length from 299' over the river to 132' at the ends. A lower deck, intended to carry 4 lanes of vehicular traffic and 2 streetcar tracks, was never completed.

The bridge was designed by engineers Wilbur J Watson & Associates, with Frank Walker as consulting architect. One of the variations from strict engineering necessity was the curving of the lower edge of the trusses to give a more pleasing arched appearance, and the major architectural feature was the 4 massive stone pylons with 8 conventionalized figures representing Guardians of Traffic. Designed by Walker and sculpted by Henry Hering, they are transitional between a stylized classicism and the Modernistic or Art Deco style.

The bridge was closed in 1980-83 for the replacement of the concrete roadway deck. Upon reopening, it was renamed the Hope Memorial Bridge, in honor of the family of entertainer Bob Hope, who were Cleveland stonemasons.
One disadvantage to having a camera as a third limb is that my kids are way too interested in this curious thing Mommy's forever carting around. Some months ago, my son finally managed to get a hold of it (he's into climbing chairs now - SIGH!) and being the curious monster that he is (I say it most affectionately...well, almost) he banged it against the tile floor to see what would happen. My poor camera expired on the spot. Along with getting myself a new camera, I also got my son one of those indestructible kid cameras. Thankfully he now leaves mine alone.

And then, just yesterday - as I was about to snap my baby girl's photo (with her cute face all smeared with cereal), she calmly reached out, grabbed my new camera and then dropped it with a shriek of delight. I was stunned! But thankfully not stunned enough. I did a dive worthy of Michael Phelps and caught it micro-seconds before it hit the ground.

I knew the time had come to start looking for a camera for my girl. (My toddler will sooner beat his camera to death than share, he's so enamored of it! Shades of Mommy, do you think?) I went to one of my favorite places to shop - SHOP.COM, a comparison shopping site specifically designed for women! In a previous post I've raved about how SHOP.COM gives us busy Moms an opportunity to ease the stress of holiday shopping with tools to help us figure out what to buy, find recommendations, and pinpoint which stores have the best price. My pick was the Disney princess pix micro digital camera for my little princess, of which I found quite a collection from Shop.com. The prices range from close to $19 all the way to $60, from retailers like Amazon, eBay and more.

Shop.com does the work and gets me the prices from all over the web. I just have to sit at home and make my pick. The best part is the "Price Drop Alert" feature - all I have to do is enter a price that fits my wallet and my email information. An email will automatically be sent to me if the price of the item becomes less than or equal to the price I've specified - simple! I plan to visit them often this Holiday season.

Looking for some unique gifts this Holiday season? Then the world is your marketplace at NOVICA.com. Part of the National Geographic family, Novica is where talented artists and artisans from remote regions around the world can have a global platform to display their true artistic talents and benefit financially from their creativity. The benefit to the customer is that they can have access to and buy unique, hard-to-find items at great values and more importantly, of authentic origin! And since each item is shipped from its country of origin, warehouse costs are eliminated. Furthermore, artists remain fully independent--they are free to raise their prices, lower their prices, or remove their items from the Novica website. By cutting out the long strings of middlemen, Novica allows both consumers and artisans to get the most out of each and every transaction.

At any given time, Novica features more than 30,000 limited edition and one of a kind handmade works of art, ranging from artisan crafted jewelry to handsewn apparel to world style home decor. And boy, did I have a tough time when I was over there the other day. I loved them all - the African masks, leather handbags from Brazil, Ottoman from Andes, green gifts from Thailand, a Dragon wood panel from Bali, art glass items from Mexico etc. They also have an exceptionally nice and fair trade Corporate Gifts section that features some truly gorgeous products (sculptures, stationary, leather items etc). I ultimately ended up with were two gorgeous items from India - the 'Scarlet Extravaganza' glass jar and the 'Spring Sunshine' ceramic wind chimes and I can't wait for them to get here --- all the way from India!

Even browsing Novica is an adventure. I could choose items based on region, artist and price. At Novica, I could find information that's not often found in crafts stores or art galleries. I was able to view images of artisans in their workshops, read a personal bio about in the artist's own words and understand their goals, philosophies and lifestyles. I got to see their video and was able to check out other creations by that same artist. And there are customer reviews of that item as well as recommendations of similar items. And if I want to send a personal message to the artist, well, I can do that as well! Now, that's truly bridging the gap between artist and patron, don't you think?

They always have a Sale going on and from time to time, offer free shipping on a variety of products (currently, it's free shipping for jewelry!).

BONUS - At this time Novica is offering a $10 off coupon for new customers. Just use the coupon code : Novica243

The thing that makes any entertainer successful is the ability to connect with an audience. It's the quality of sharing the humor in everyday situations that has made Bill Engvall one of the top comedians today and among the busiest.

A native of Galveston, Texas, Bill moved to Dallas and was working as a disc jockey with plans of becoming of a teacher. While in a nightclub one evening, Bill decided to try his hand at stand-up comedy and quickly found that making people laugh was truly his forte. Soon after, he decided to move to Los Angeles to pursue television opportunities.

Bill is currently starring in and executive producing the new half hour sitcom for TBS entitled "The Bill Engvall Show." Bill’s first album, Here's Your Sign (Warner Bros), has been certified platinum and held the #1 position on the Billboard Comedy Chart for 15 straight weeks. Bill's second CD, Dorkfish (Warner Bros) had the honor of being ranked #1 on Billboard's Comedy Chart, surpassing Jerry Seinfeld's album.

He recently released Aged and Confused, a new live comedy CD, that's a laugh riot, as usual.
