They sell cookies, ice cream, donuts, shaved ice and get this- "Dirty Diet Coke". The Mormons in St. George are a pretty tame bunch ( I know this, bc they're my <div class="feedflare">

Summer means salads. I've been looking for an excuse to try out this recipe I Pinned a while back.
Verdict? Loved it. My <div class="feedflare">

This recipe comes from Amy's Bread in NYC. They started making brownies in the early days of the bakery opening, and were given the "Best Brownie" award in NYC. Really, THE best brownie? I've been to New York, and can testify that there are bakeries (lots of them great bakeries) on almost every block. Reading about this "award winning" brownie caught my attention. Getting your grocery list ready for Sunday? If you want to be the favorite child, make this for Mom. It takes about 20-30 minutes to throw together and will make you look like a pro in the kitchen. Not that you need help in that area.
I made this appetizer a few weeks ago with Cape Cod Chopped Salad, Lobster Shells and some Baked Lemon Chicken. It's a delicious, simple and beautiful meal<div class="feedflare">

If you want to splurge on Mom for Mother's Day, try this salad from Ina Garten, aka the Barefoot Contessa. Ina says it's important to use small shells in this salad so the corn kernels can get stuck inside of the shells. These things are important. Yes, they are.

If you are as anxious for summer to get here as I am, you'll love this recipe. It tastes like a bite of summer in a salad.

Promises, promises. I know. I told you days ago I would post two more salads and an appetizer for your Mother's Day menu, which is THIS WEEK. It's been a little hectic around here.

For one, Stephen returned home from his mission to Puebla in March. That deserves its own post (later). Here's a little glimpse of the "most wonderful day, ever" .

One of our long time favorites is Braided Onion Cheese Bread. The basic recipe includes dough filled with a cheese-onion mixture, then shaped into ropes and braided. I love the look of the braided loaf, but also love it shaped into rolls. The original recipe was easily adapted to eliminate the need to braid the bread (which seems to intimidate most people, like the term "bias edge <div class="feedflare">

Do you Pinterest?
Apparently everyone is Pinning these days.
Last week, Bonnie Oscarson was named the new General Young Women President of the LDS (Mormon) church. The lead line of a news story I read about Sister Oscarson stated that she is on Pinterest. Of course, people weighed in on her activity online. Some of the comments stated were negative. Others positive. My thought?
Wow, she's<div class="feedflare">

If you aren't into sentimental babbling on food blogs, you'll have to come back another day...
I've been putting off writing this post for a few months, but need to record it for posterity sake :)
No recipe with this post. Only a few pics and a little movie at the end.
It finally happened. We moved. The quickie version of how/why this happened: We never planned on moving, but the <div class="feedflare">

Here's a recipe for a fresh and simple salad, perfect for brunch. I served this at a gathering last week and it was a hit. Inspired by one of my favorite salads at Plates and Palates in Btown. They serve something similar, without the pasta. It's a great make-ahead salad if you are looking for a recipe you can throw together just before serving.

Happy Easter weekend!

Brookie called me a couple of weeks ago and told me she made the most wonderful salad for dinner. I knew the boys would not be thrilled about a spinach, warm pear and asparagus salad, so I threw it together one night when it was just me and the doggie at home. Since Jack is not generally interested in greens, I was able to have the entire salad to myself.
Oh my goodness.
So simple. So <div class="feedflare">

I made the Maple Butter two ways. Above I followed directions and cooked the syrup. The second time I simply whipped the room temp butter with 1/2 cup of pure maple syrup (below).

Once in a blue moon, I attempt cooking ribs at home.
Master of the grill?
No.
The last time I cooked ribs, I threw them on the bbq, smothered them with sauce, started out on low heat, grew impatient after about an hour (surprising, I know) and turned the heat up. The result- a tough, sticky, chewy mess.
I had all but given up on cooking ribs at home until I saw this recipe on Pinterest.

Guess what the weather forecast is for the weekend. If you said SNOW, you're a winner. Heavy sigh. Last week, we went to Southern Utah for baseball.

Oh.
Sun. I remember you. Warm. Blue skies. Sunscreen. No boots.
Then Monday came, reality along with it. Back to the North.
Snowy day= The perfect time to bake bread.

Super Bowl. Get on your apron and fire up the deep fryer.
If I had one, (a deep fryer) that's what I'd do. Baking works for me.
Today's appetizer has become a family favorite. Nothing says testosterone like Buffalo Wings. Every time I make this it gets Raven reviews. ha. Rave reviews. Especially from the fist pumping crowd.

Winter.

We're in the dead of it. You know it's cold when people are getting excited about a 35 degree day! Today we had an ice storm. That brought back memories of the good old days when we lived in Oregon.
Cold weather=cooking.
This is a dish I make almost every year at holiday time. Mostly at Christmas, sometimes at Thanksgiving. My friend Tinker brought this to a Recipe Club dinner we <div class="feedflare">

It's January 15. Are you ready to break your New Years resolution? Read on.
Back in November, Curt Cutler taught a class on one of his best sellers: Frosted Peanut Butter cookies. The class was packed, and everyone left with little tricks and tips on how to make the perfect chocopeanutbutter treat. You've never had one of these delightful goodies? Think of chocolate chip cookie <div class="feedflare">

Homemade Balsamic. A thing of beauty.

If you are the type who prefers anything BUT Ranch dressing on your salad, I think it's safe to say you'll love this recipe.

Not that there's anything wrong with Ranch.

Just as long as it's not from a bottle.

And it's no where near the top of my pizza.

What is up with that? If you are reading this and you are not from the Beehive State, you <div class="feedflare">

Have you ever made your own Bleu Cheese dressing? Once you make this, you'll never, ever want to eat bottled again.
Just sayin.

One of my resolutions for 2013. Cook more.
Ok, for reals.
You know what's so great about making your own salad dressing?
You can pronounce all of the ingredients.
I'm posting three recipes this week I tried recently. Loved all three: Poppyseed, Bleu Cheese and Creamy Balsamic. Each one takes about 5 minutes or less to throw together. So simple.
Want to feel accomplished in 2013? Forget <div class="feedflare">

Years ago my dear friend Tessa gave me her recipe for Chicken Enchiladas. It's been our family "go-to" recipe since. I promised to post this recipe last year when I made Cream Cheese and Chicken Enchiladas, and I'm just now getting around to it.
I've made these for everything from Sunday dinners to team dinners. One of those tried and true, never disappoint recipes. What makes these <div class="feedflare">
