Hello lovelies, how are you all doing? It's been seriously waaaay too long, I know and I'm sorry. I have to apologize for my absence, not just from blogging but from general interaction with you on your blogs & Twitter too.
I'm not going to digress too much but I'd love to get back onto a more normal blogging schedule without disappearing for months on end but right now I'll be blogging intermittently and sporadically.
I do miss you all, bucket loads in fact... and I will be checking in to say hello & to see what you're all up to - hopefully nothing but fabulous things of course! :)

At the end of this month (how is we're already at the end of Jan already???), we'll be entering the Year of the Horse, I reckon it'll be a good one for all of us! You may recall from my previous posts here and here on CNY that the colour red symbolizes luck. It's a beautiful bold, fiery & daring hue and one with high impact! Don't you just love these gowns for a dramatic entrance into the New Year!

LOOKING GREAT IN YOUR PASSPORT PHOTOS - TAKE YOUR OWN!

Happy Monday Loves! I know, I've kinda been AWOL lately, being a mum is hard work y'know?!

It's that time of the decade again, my drivers license has almost expired and I still have a year or so to go before renewing my passport.

Passport regulations have changed massively since my last one and now you can't even smile or have your chin down or face slightly tilted to one side (your best profile side naturally) - all ingredients which make you look a gazillion times better in your passport photo!

Yup, I did a practise run, having to stare straight ahead has resulted in me with dead looking eyes, in some I look plain gloomy or evil (hello? Is that Emily Rose from Exorcist staring back at me?) and in other test shots I simply look a little exhausted. Thank God for light reflective concealers! If you're thinking of having your passport sized photos taken, I would keep these things in mind:

Clothing: Avoid wearing green or red, instead wear a v-neck shaped top in darker colours which are more flattering have a better contrast, and whatever you do, don't wear white! If you're going to wear jewellery, keep it simple and on the discreet side.

Hair: Wear your hair down. Don't go loca loca with styling or wacky hair colour, this photo has to last 10 years! Brush/comb your hair and use a serum for stray hairs and smooth shiny locks.

Make up: Wear neutral shades as much as possible, as bright colours will only look garish. I'd try contouring your face for a perfect base highlighting your features, accentuating your eyes but don't go too crazy with the eye liner, wear mascara for lengthening your lashes, groom your brows (fill them in) and make sure they've been plucked & shaped to perfection. As for lips, don't apply too much lip gloss or wear anything too shiny. Opt for a little colour instead- I went for something with a slight berry shade. Almost ready? Time to get rid of any shine, especially on the T-zone - powder up loves!

Taking the shot! (Please make sure you follow the rules & remove your glasses if you wear them!)

Think a happy or even funny thought, it makes your eyes more kinder looking and you're less likely to end up with a gloomy mug shot. Believe it or not your eyes give a lot away, so smile with your eyes and look confident.

Position yourself against a plain cream or light grey background where the light is facing you, so that you don't have any distracting shadows. You can always try and hold a large white poster sized card/foam card (aka fill card) or a reflector underneath/in front of you, tilted upwards at a slight angle & towards you so the light fills the shadows under your neck and the area around your eyes.

Look straight ahead, mouth closed when taking the shot and don't slouch your shoulders please!
Get someone to take lots of shots and select the best one! You can use a service like Picture Lizard to print your photos and have them cut to size too.

Wouldn't it be fun to have some crazier shots like this taken though?

Happy Monday folks! I hope your weekend was beautiful! Did you make the most of it or did you enjoy chilling out after a hectic week?

Sometimes I like to revisit a box-set of Sex & The City, I just love love loved the show, from the girls, the wardrobe to the script. I can't quite get over how the first ever episode aired 15 years ago in 1998! For realz! Man I miss this show, the glamour, the great lines from each of the gals... Wish there was something right now which showcases style as this show once did. Anyhoos, here's a little recap of a few things we've learnt from the show & Carrie Bradshaw.

Not everyone can wear white

LIP-FANTASTIC: GET GLOSSY GALS

Well hey there loves! Wow it seems like an absolute eternity since I logged into Blogspot since little Alfie was born. Aside from the fact that my daily life now consists of being a milk machine for the wee one with endless changes of frighteningly scary looking dirty nappies (-not so scary though now mind) and major lack of sleep.
My brain is slowly absorbing news & catching up with all things fabulous from the outside world (I swear it isn't completely contaminated by the goss & ridiculous features from the mailonline!) For your information, my week hasn't been totally dull. I did try on some pre-pregnancy jeans for a laugh to see if I'd actually fit into a pair so I wouldn't have to splash out in the upcoming sales!

As it happens our summer appears to have disappeared and all that we're left with this week is a resolutely grim & rather grey looking Blighty. Being a new mum means that looking great hasn't been priority number one over the past two weeks, but with visitors on the increase one has gotta make the effort & look a little less like tired, weary mum right? For make up in a hurry I usually just prep with BB cream, some fuchsia blush & a dollop of Elizabeth Arden's 8 Hour Cream or Cherry Flavoured Carmex on my lips, but I fancy something else to brighten up my look & day with something colourful & vibrant and what's quicker than a splash of poptastic colour on your lips?

I loved Lancomes Juicy tubes when they first came out so no doubt I'll absolutely love the brand new range - Gloss in Love following the success of their Rouge in Love collection. Did you see that first pic of plump glossy lips? Hmmm, yes SOLD!
I think the Scarlett -165, Violet - 383 & Flash n' Fuschia - 391 are my faves.

Whilst I look outside the window, all I see is grey and gloom, but these little beauties have lifted my spirit - well... that and some oogling at vacation/beach spots on Pinterest!

I really cannot wait for the UK to have a long spell of sunshine and warmth and even though I might not be able to strut about in shorts for a while, I thought I'd share some super cool craftista action in this ever popular summer crochet/lace shorts tutorial below. But if you can't be bothered, you can always pick up a lovely pair on the high street.

Looks easy enough, strips of beautiful lace - mark out how many layers you're going to need and if you have enough lace, fabric glue (although I would also hand-stitch the panels on just in case-top edge only!) and a pair of jersey shorts/hotpants.

POST-PREGNANCY SHAPE UP: FIRMING LOTIONS, CREAMS & FITNESS

I've never really been the extreme body conscious type, but at 39 weeks I have already started thinking about what my post partum body will look like as there will be some major changes, especially after the miracle of bringing new life into this world. I'm not expecting to bounce back any time soon and since I'm no longer in my twenties, so it could take a while!
Anyway that's fine by me, I'd rather be spending time cuddling up to my wee one regardless of the medias constant articles about celebs snapping back into shape 4 weeks after giving birth - yeah whatever! Besides I'll probably be delirious from sleep deprivation to be functioning properly or worrying about what I look like!

With summer around the corner, I suppose we could all use a little help in the toning and firming up department hence my interest in Firming/toning moisturisers. But do they work? Hmmm, dunno yet, but having had a recce online and reading various reviews, these six are high on my shopping list!
Have you tried any of these and do they work? Or do you have other suggestions? Please share!

It would be ridiculous to assume that creams, lotions or potions alone will sort your body out, you also need to ensure you're eating healthily (don't even think about immediate postnatal dieting - that is a big no-no!) and doing some gentle exercise, whenever it is safe to. Listen to your doctor, it's usually around 6 weeks post childbirth unless there were complications, but remember that your 'pre-pregnancy hormones, water & blood levels only get back to normal around 12 weeks.'

I think there's a little self discipline in me to want to get active, fit, strong & energetic and I'm sure long walks combined with breastfeeding (burns calories) & these post pregnancy exercises, my body could bounce back to some sort of normality after 9 months to a year, well here's to hoping anyway!

The kegels exercise is kind of a big one, or so I've heard... your pelvic floor muscles might need some help as they weaken after childbirth... great!
Before working on your abs or belly area, do ensure you get the all clear & don't have diastasis recti - separation of the abdominal muscles (my friend has this), it will take time to heal, but the plank is a good one as it works your transverse abdominis muscles.

Ok..., so maybe none of you reading this are pregnant but still want to get inspired & get fit, or want a bikini body... I find myself obsessing a little over everything Cannes right now & although the weather over there is just as rubbish as it over here, I can't help but dream about all things French; the Cote D'azur, clear blue skies, fabulous properties...!

BECAUSE IT'S MONDAY... TREATING YOUR FEET, CARE & HOT HEELS!

Summer is just around the corner - or so I keep telling myself! We've had a few spells of constant glorious sunshine, which means gals breaking out their open toe sandals... however with feet being kept well hibernated for the past 8 months (- yes that long!) I have seen more than a fair few 'eewwww' situations... as in crusty heels or funky feet that ruin a beautiful pair of shoes kinda moment.

If you haven't been looking after your precious feet & digits, now is the time to get them back into the program with a DIY Pedicure to get them looking amazeballs and perhaps take a good look at your feet to see if they could use a little more care. What do I mean?
I've seen some women with scary looking bunions (and clearly not done anything about it but carry on wearing sky scraper heels) to nail infections but most commonly I've noticed women with flat feet (without them realising) due to wearing ballet flats with thin soles or from constantly living in UGG boots over the years.
Flats that are easy to bend in half are a dead giveaway for zero support, imagine pounding the pavement in those all the time, there's no shock absorption, so your body/nerves get a bashing every time your heels strike hard ground.

Flat feet cause all sorts of problems later on, starting with poor posture and knee pain, so maybe invest in some orthotic insoles - there are some great ones via ebay like this pair or Scholl's Orthoheel Sports via amazon here.

Making your tootsies dazzle! Home DIY pedicures may not be as extravagant as having one at the spa or salon, but if you invest some lovely slightly pricier nail polish, it could make all the difference! All you really need are some toenail clippers, a nail file, nail scissors, cuticle stick, bowl, pumice stone or foot file, your own scrub mix, a rich moisturiser, cuticle oil and nail polish.

Hello lovelies, hope you're all well! Welcome to the new month and it's a long weekend, woohoo!
I think I'll spend it playing catch up (blog reads, mags etc), getting some finishing touches done before Baos arrival (hurry up 28th May) and just stay in bed a bit longer if need be! I am very much nearly there now but could use forty more winks, as bump is significantly bigger and more uncomfortable... my hips are so achy from sleeping on my sides! Plus he's a bit of a wriggler when I'm trying to sleep too!

I've been given some good reads, so might have tuck into one of them. I've already finished Gillian Flynns Gone Girl which was just brilliant, so much so that Reese Witherspoon is producing it and I think David Fincher is in talks to direct! Eek! So excited, but who do you think should be cast as Amy and Nick???
What are you all reading right now? Anything I ought to add to my list?
I really want to go to the movies, but I think I'd just end up missing half the film by going to the loo half the time! Have you seen Iron Man 3, is it any good? I'm dying to see the Great Gatsby, not long now!!!

On this side of the pond we've been blessed with a little sunshine this week (I really don't need to hear about how amazing el scorchio it is in Greece right now, not fair!) and I hope it stays for the duration of the long weekend. I've already enjoyed one sneaky picnic in the park, but might be in for round two of chilling in the park or perhaps a BBQ! I do love the great outdoors, I just hope my hayfever calms down a wee bit! Puffy eyes and dry, red nose? So not a good look!

A new month, a new me? Hmmm, I could definitely use some pampering me time, I'm thinking new hair cut (nothing drastic, I still want to be able to give myself a Croydon Facelift), a mani-pedi and maybe try out some new eyeshadow for the long awaited Spring/Summer season!

Yowsers, have you seen these? I think this (as in the entire colour range) will be on my lust list! YSL have brought us the new La Laque Couture Tie & Dye topcoats in four shades with three layers; a shimmery frosted bottom layer, translucent colour in the middle and a clear topcoat on top.
These are crazy-awesome multi functional topcoats, you can either shake the bottle to get a subtle lick of colour or apply without shaking for a more graduated effect. I think what's great about this product is that you can also layer it with a more solid nail colour. Oooh j'adore! (Available in Selfridges & Brown Thomas)

As someone who loved the old school era of supermodels, I did get blown away by one rather smoking hot Helena Christensen, I mean WOW, she's still got it! What an ageless beauty!
I do however feel like I'm in need of a serious sunshine ridden holiday though, having seen this shoot!

Looking at this beautiful shoot, would you have guessed these outfits were made entirely out of paper?
This stunning editorial was photographed by Iban Montero, titled Limited Paper in the style of iconic photographer Richard Avedon.

These extraordinary paper creations were by stylist and designer Ane Lopez, I'm literally blown away by the sophisticated craftiness! Impossibly chic, no?

Love the sculpted hair and arched brows too!

Funnily enough, this does remind me of the days when we made toiles out of paper (one side dotted) and pinned those to mannequins, I wonder what they would have looked like on an actual person! At one point, I was also obsessed with paper-like fabric from Berwick street, only problem was, if you'd made a mistake you would see a train of holes! Oops.

This top simply rocks on so many levels - i'll be able to wear it after I've had bubs, it's jersey on the front with floral skull print on the back - so basically it's comfy and casual from the front, but p-a-r-t-y in the back! Woohoo! Oh and it's totally purse-friendly! I really haven't had the urge to splurge on maternity clothing, seriously who wants to throw money away on something you'll wear for a hort period of time? My other issue is that I've found most things to be stripes (I do love stripes, but I mean how much wider do they want us to look?), too mumsy chic or poor in fit & lacking in style...
At 33 weeks getting away with non maternity wear is tricky, the bump is massive now and it may be a little too cold still to hot foot it out in a loose column style maxi', however, they're great for throwing a chunky longline open cardi over the top, belted above the bump.

I've kept tops long and loose and if there's a tunic with an empire waist even better, like this retro printed one I scored recently by legendary Barbara Hulanicki for George. Great for emphasising bump!

Hello loves! Brrrrrr, I just cannot get over the fact we had a major blizzard going down in London today and everywhere else across the UK is totally freezing, not quite the Spring I had in mind. Although it's not quite the weekend, I just had to share some Friday Fabulousness with you now! Just as I'm totally & utterly crazy about the outfits/wardrobe in Mad Men, I'm also one for going gaga over stunning uniform attire, air stewardess uniforms being rather high on my nostalgic craze list.
Back in the day, many airlines worked with couture designers to create their uniforms to make a fashion statement in the sky, with many high profile designers today continuing to make airline uniforms as luxurious, stylish and reflective of the Airlines brand as much as possible.

I think Daisy looks groomed to perfection & rather fabulous, no?

I think flying back in the 'Mad Men' era was way more fun, I mean the sky girls were dressed by Emilio Pucci, there were piano bars onboard, people actually dressed up and were served gourmet food... or real food anyway. I suppose we all just have to pay the price for the ticket to get that kinda service these days and it sure ain't cheap.

Way back in the day, air stewardesses were qualified/registered nurses, had to be young, unmarried, be under a certain weight and at least 5ft 4" or had to have 'Barbie like proportions', crazy no? Well they all had the opportunity to travel the world and look glam, which girl didn't dream of being a stewardess back then? Besides, you could even wear an outfit like the below...

TO WEAR OR NOT TO WEAR... OR GO NAKED?

That's right, the subject that's been on my mind of late has been wearing nail polish during pregnancy. Most of you know that I'm nutty for nail art & nail polish and I rarely go without painted toe nails all year round... but ever since I've been pregnant, all changed.

I like my nails to look pretty and I love a heavy dose of colour, wearing nail polish is a part of me.

Although your nails are keratin based and are dead, they still absorb chemicals and it's more of an issue when you get nail polish on your cuticles. I don't know what risks there are to the unborn baby but I do know that Toluene can cause birth defects and developmental problems but that you'd need to be inhaling the fumes regularly for this to cause any problems. Also watch out for formaldehyde and dibutyl phthalate (DBP) or lets just call all of these the "toxic trio", which if inhaled on a regular basis can irritate the eyes, lungs and throat. I guess it's probably best to keep the room well ventilated or have the window open if you are painting your nails, just to be on the safe side, y'know.

So, which brands are free from formaldehyde, DBT and toluene?

Aside from the above, there are plenty of other brands that also claim to be free from the toxic trio - from Sally Hansen, Essie, Orly & Deborah Lippman - mainly because the ingredients aren't on the label... What I'd love to know is whether you'd wear nail polish or rather go naked during your pregnancy? Or did you? Answers on a post card please, would love to hear your views.

I was recently wowed by such a beautiful space that brought fashion and architecture (by D-Raw) to a super glam restaurant and bar at an event held by Rhubarb. Bond & Brook on the second floor of Fenwick's is the hottest place to go for high tea and fashion. I just adore the fashion library, that fits in so well with the rest of the sophisticated fashion space outside of the restaurant on the shop floor and the cocktail bar.

SAVE YOUR SKIN: HEAVENLY HAND CREAMS

I'm afraid that even now in March, my paws seem to be dry and lacking in the super soft department. The weather has definitely not been my friend and the night time ritual of slathering on hand cream along with a good massage is the only resolve.
My fail safe go-to's though-out the winter months and all year long have helped improve the condition of my hands dramatically and I suggest you make room for these little beauties in your hand bag now, whatever the weather!

Current Loves!

I'm totally smitten with The Body Shops Absinthe collection, particularly the purifying hand cream (£10). I'm afraid you won't get a vision of Kylie as a fairy visiting you & doing a jiggle once you've applied the hand cream, but what you will get are fully hydrated paws (it's not a greasy hand cream even with the magic ingredient - shea butter!). I'm in love with the scent which lingers long after application and as a pregnant woman, smells are very particular with me, I either love or hate it!

Having to get public transport where people are constantly sneezing and coughing all over place makes me feel icky, especially if I have to touch the very same handrails, so you'll always find a bottle of purifying hand gel or anti-bacterial hand gel in my hand bag. The above two are my beauty saving partners in crime right now!

For healthier looking hands...

I have used all of the above hand creams - they're all good, whatever the budget. I must admit, the cheapie - Nivea Creme does leave a slightly greasy touch afterward as it takes a while to sink in but it is good and has even been compared to Creme de la Mer - it has that protecting and hydrating factor.

Soap & Glory always have the most delicious smelling skincare/beauty products but what is exceptional about this hand cream is that rehydrates asap and leaves hands feeling silky!

Neutrogena's Norwegian Formula helps with chapped skin leaving your hands all velvety but not 'fed' enough, what I like about it is that is protects against the weather and has a subtle scent.

Jurliques Lavender hand cream not only nourishes, smells amazing but moisturizes well as it's thick and creamy - my Aussie rellies introduced me to this brand and it's a great buy at the airport!

A Little Goes a Long Way...

One of my fave splurges in winter is L'Occitane's shea butter hand cream (£19/150ml or £8/30ml - Hit the Duty Free counter at the airport!). I know a lot of friends swear by this hand cream and why not? It's gorgeously thick, creamy and sinks in well without being greasy, leaving hands super soft and hydrated. The smell is oh so sweet too... I've heard that if you do suffer from skin conditions such as psoriasis, this is a great hand cream for keeping them hydrated & in good condition.

With the older, larger tube design you'll find you may have to cut the end off to get the rest out & finish off the tube properly (I fear this is going to happen with my Body Shop Absinthe tube)! The 30ml tube is a great handbag essential and is in the plastic format. A friend of mine has the rose petals one and leaves the tube next to the kitchen sink, I love sneaking a smidgen, such a gorgeous smell!

What are your handbag or nightstand hand cream faves? If your hands are really out of control dry, I'd suggest exfoliating with a sugar scrub to help get rid of any dead, dry skin and apply a thick moisturiser and wear a pair of gloves overnight.
HOT TIP: I also tend to use any excess anti ageing face cream on the back of my hands too.

Well hey there beloved readers, over the past couple of months I've been slowly nesting and gathering bits and pieces for the little bubba, but you know what? I've bought absolutely nada for moi and well, that's just not on!

Anyhoos, I'm mega excited since it's payday week! Whoopee! Capturing my imagination and my heart right now are bold geometric prints, well, anything wildly colourful and likely to brighten up my current ongoing all black - ninja style wardrobe.

I'm still bowled over by amazing printed creations by the likes of Peter Pilotto, Jil Sander, Marni, Matthew Williamson and digital prints by Felder Felder.

Of late, the image reflects exactly how I've been feeling once I walk through the door of my home... Totally cream-crackered. The 3-hour long return journey on public transport is rather treacherous especially with pelvic pain added to the equation... I honestly don't know how other women manage it! Anyhow, all is well but I'm afraid you'll have to excuse me on the blogging front, I might not be here as often as I'd like but I most certainly still take pleasure coming over to visit you guys.

It's my form of escapism... from reading baby/parenting info to freak-me-out stuff like on one of my pregnancy apps. I read that I can probably feel my little one inside scratching with their fingers inside the uterus, how CREEPY?!! So anyhoos, thank you for hanging around!

Debonaire heart sole heels by Charlotte Olympia, a heartbreaking £545!

I'm all about delicious things when it comes to Valentines day and it seems these are just a few lustful things that caught my eye!

I have fallen head over heels (ha ha) over Gianvito Rossi's SS13 collection, check it out here shoe lovers! For the preggo lady in me, I thought these floral trainers would be a stylish casual and comfy alternative to heels and at £35 (from asos) they're a bit of a bargain, no? I love ankle straps courts, these are a little unusual and fun, especially with the contrast heel and metallic toe cap via Kurt Geiger here. The purple colour is also fab!

Whether you're staying in or going out, how about making these delightful little bites of heaven? Recipe below!

Millionaire's Fudge via Weekend Magazine (Guardian UK)

Makes 36 Squares - Recipe:

115g (4oz) raisins

1tbsp dark rum

225g (8oz) plain chocolate

225g (8oz) plain chocolate flavoured cake covering (cocoa based product from supermarkets)

405g can sweetened condensed milk

1/2 tsp vanilla essence

55g (2oz) white chocolate

25g (1oz) dried cranberries or sour cherries

15g (1/2oz) shelled pistachio nuts, chopped

Make:

Put the raisins & rum in a bowl, cover and soak for 30 minutes. Line a 20cm (8") tin with baking paper. Break up the chocolate and the cake covering, place in a microwaveable bowl, add the condensed milk and cook on high for 2 minutes. Stir and cook for another minute, stir until the chocolate melts, then stir in raisins and vanilla and pour into the tin. Tap the end of the tin to get rid of trapped air bubbles. Melt the white chocolate and drizzle over the fudge. Scatter over the cranberries or sour cherries, nuts and chill until set. Cut into squares using a hot wet knife.

Tickled Pink - the perfect Valentines day cocktail

Recipe:

1 oz. Belvedere vodka

1 oz. Sugar-free raspberry preserve

1 orange wedge squeezed and dropped into shaker

Shake on ice

Pour 1-1/2 oz. of Mionetto Prosecco in martini glass

Pour shaker into martini glass with Prosecco

Garnish with 2 fresh raspberries on a bar pick

My dear readers, I am beyond excited for the weekend, as my family & I will be celebrating Chinese Lunar New Year on Sunday... The run up is always a great time too, since I get to stuff my face for 3 consecutive days... add Pancake day, Valentines Day, my God Daughters 3rd birthday party and a friends CNY banquet celebration next week, that's like a whole entire week of just eating. Good thing I'm pregnant huh?

I love all things 60's, and although I had never heard of the infamous double act of the sixties, the Kessler twins ought to be blown away by this tribute photoshoot! Oh did I mention that legendary stylist Patricia Field styled this fun shoot?

I don't know about you, but have you noticed more and more sister, twin or gal pal style action on the streets? I'm not talking about matchy-matchy identical outfits but more sassy smart styling action that compliments the other sister/twins/similar looking girls' style, aka 'twinning' (did Grazia coin that term?).
I've only ever once turned up at an event doing the black, white and a touch of red accenting, but someone else did this in the form of masculine styling, it rocked and we ended up being shot together.

FABULOUS MONOCHROME FRIDAY'S: STRIKING STRIPES

I can't tell you how many Breton stripes or stripe tops I have because there are just.so.many. That's right, I love stripes, especially monochromatic pieces with dramatic pop.

Whether it's interiors or fashion, stripes never go out of fashion and even a dash of colour can make it all the more interesting.

As it's Friday, I'll leave you with some fabulous Friday monochrome magic.

Striped maxi dress - I still haven't found one that I really like, since the last one I fell in love with sold out in the states in a nanosecond.

How about chevron stripes? They're super fun and add a lovely twist to the classic stripe.

A black and white striped Tee is the one basic holiday essential. Dress up with a pop of colour, with a statement necklace or keep it simple.
