Wearing Contact Lenses Long

A study by Ciba Vision, and reported by WebMD yesterday, reports 40% of contact lens users wear their contact lenses beyond the recommended change dates. It’s important to understand the hidden dangers of wearing lenses longer than prescribed.

Contact Lenses are made from different materials which determine amount of oxygen the eye receives, types of deposits that can collect on the lens, and other factors. Some contact lens material may be more conducive to build-up of proteins or lipids which can cause infection. Lack of oxygen can be detrimental long-term and the combined effects of wearing lenses longer than prescribed can lead to corneal ulcers or inflammation.

The article suggests weekly and monthly lens wearers were most likely to wear lenses longer because they forgot to change contacts. Race For The Cure Results

Saturday was a great day for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Columbus. The AC Lens team raised $2095 in donations. With a 100% company match, we raised $4190 for breast cancer research! Everyone had a great time and we look forward to an even bigger, better year in 2010. Here’s some pictures from Saturday’s event.

If you’re not aware, the NIH has declared May Healthy Vision Month. This year, they’re focusing on uncorrected refractive errors of which the most common are nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, and presbyopia.
