THE FRANK LAMPARD DEBATE.

After scoring against Bolton on Saturday and with that the Premier League highest goal scoring midfielder and his 182nd goal for Chelsea, we are still sitting here wondering if Frank Lampard will be picked to play our next game at West Brom away on Saturday.

This is the question most of us are asking ourselves at the moment. The press are speculating that AVB was "under orders" to play Lampard, Cole and Essien on Saturday but this has been denied by AVB. I think i've read somewhere that AVB calls it "simple squad rotation".

Does this mean that we should now expect Raul Meireles to come in for Frank at the Hawthorns? based on current form I hope not!.

I am proud to say that leading up to the Bolton game I called for AVB to restore the starting eleven to the strongest we have on paper and suggested it if was me I would start with a certain 11 players. Those eleven players that started the game (apart from JT because he was injured) were the EXACT ones I wanted us to start with.

If Chelsea are to get back up the table and put pressure on the likes of Arsenal and Spurs, we need to become consistent once again and stick with our strongest eleven. For me that means a midfield three of Essien, Lampard and Ramires. The only change I would consider is Romeu coming in but for some reason he is now out of favour with AVB.

For me, purely and simply because of what he offers Chelsea in his all round performance and especially the influence he has in and around the box, Frank Lampard should be starting week in, week out now.

The question remains whether or not AVB feels the same as me. What about you lot? What do you think about Frank Lampard and our run in now until the end of the season?.

David Luiz has a message for his critics.

It would be fair to say that David Luiz is one of the most talked about and discussed defenders in the Premier League. More often than not the pundits on TV have had their comments on our Brazilian and have been mostly critical. Luiz has made mistakes at times in games and made a costly error for Napoli's third goal last week but continues to believe in himself and in his work.

Heavily criticised by the written press on numerous occasions Luiz, fresh from scoring Chelsea's opener against Bolton had a message for the same reporters. He said:

"The guys who have never touched a ball can't kill me. This is impossible. Because I know my life when I didn't have anything, I know my life when my family needed me a lot.

I know my life when I left home at 14 years of age and I told them 'I will come back one day and give you a good life.

I play in a big team and when a big team doesn't win for five games or six games, the pressure's so, so big. I believe in my job, I believe in my work every day, I believe in me. I know my football, I know my personality."

I guess you know what to expect when you come to Chelsea from aboard and you have to be quick to adapt to the culture of our press. You have to be strong willed and to not take too much notice and get on with things.

Saying that, and despite the odd mistake here and there still in his game, I believe he has showed signs over the last few weeks that he is getting much better at the defensive side of his game.

Like I said, there are the odd mistakes made here and there but compared to a year ago much less. He doesn't dive into tackles like he did before or give away silly free kicks as much, he stands up and wins more tackles now than he loses so credit should be given to him for the progress he is making.

It's pleasing to read that one of your players believes in their own ability and has a fantastic work ethic. It's players like David Luiz that will be our future in years to come and given more time as he continues to learn, he will become one of the best there is.

"Chelsea fans are fantastic at backing their players!".

I want to feature this video today because it's more relevant at the moment than ever. Frank Lampard speaking after the Bolton game on Saturday on Chelsea TV, was quick to praise the Chelsea fans for the way they always back their players even when things aren't going as how they should be.

He is right isn't he!. Chelsea fans get alot of stick from other supporters and especially up north being called "Plastic fans" and all that rubbish but Lampard makes an important point about the past.

Any true Chelsea fan that has been following the club will tell you what it was like back in the days of 8,000 fans at the old Bridge watching the old second division football so of course we are gonna go way overboard when we have had the levels of success we've had in recent seasons.

Speaking about the backing we give our players is so true also. Fernando Torres also spoke of the support he is receiving from the Chelsea fans through his dip in form and has even suggested that a moment where he sat on the bench, not involved in the game and with the Chelsea fans still singing his name, was one of the best moments of his football career so far including winning the Euros and the World Cup with Spain.

Plenty of people are and have been surprised at our support of Torres but it's never in question, we love him and want to see him do well. We sit and read the rubbish in the papers about him and I guess it's a way to show him that despite what is being written, we are right behind him and know that at some stage he will get back to scoring goals.

Just like Frank said, we have every right to have a moan when it isn't going well but despite that, we still get behind the lads every week and we will be in every game!.

(GATE 17 VIDEO) Napoli away with the Chels!

As ever the "Old School" Chels from Gate 17 have produced another one of their videos featuring a trip with Chelsea abroad. This time it's last weeks trip to Naples to see Napoli away. Chelsea 3-0 Bolton - What's your view of the game?

I said we needed a big win yesterday and to field our strongest eleven. AVB picked the same side I suggested as Lampard, Drogba and Essien all returned to the starting eleven and Chelsea picked up a big win, three points, a clean sheet and more importantly fourth place in the Premier League with Arsenal playing Spurs this afternoon.

With goals from David Luiz, Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard, we eased past Bolton. Highlights of the game below.

It's important to remember that we just need to win games now and I couldn't care less if we are rubbish all game but pick up the win. It's an important step in the right direction. Fair play to the manager for picking the side he did and the players for getting the result.

Chelsea v Bolton - Massive game and all eyes on AVB's team selection!.

It really is massive today and we all know it. No disrespect to them, but who would have thought that Chelsea at home to Bolton could be a turning point in our season. It could be the start of a revival under AVB or, it could be his last game as manager if reports in the media are to be believed.

Andre Villas-Boas had his team selection questioned for the first time by Roman Abramovich after he "demanded" an explanation for his selection against Napoli. As I said yesterday, it could be a good thing and gives AVB a gentle reminder that he has Roman's attention with every selection and substitution now.

Roman Abramovich isn't stupid, he watches Chelsea TV, he looks at websites like mine and he wants to see the opinions of Chelsea fans as much as he wants to hear from everyone around him.

Today's team selection will be interesting to say the least and I will have it for you on Twitter in around two hours. Will we see the likes of Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole and Michael Essien return to the starting eleven? and if they do is it a sign of direct pressure from the owner on the manager to play them or has AVB realised he needs to finally pick the strongest eleven we have at this club? Only time will tell.

Whoever goes out on that pitch has a simple message "deliver the three points" and it really is that simple now. Nothing else will do. I know there are Chelsea fans that will say "If we can't beat Bolton at home!" and they are right but you have to remember that's based on Chelsea playing well, on form, keeping things tight and scoring goals.

Chelsea and our manager literally have EVERYTHING to lose this afternoon but for Bolton they have everything to gain. Not fancied or expected to get a result here and already in what seems to be a relegation scrap, they will come here organised and with a game plan to unsettle Chelsea and to look to expose any defensive weakness to hope the Stamford Bridge crowd become quiet and unsettled.

Bolton will look to play their football and capitalise on any mistakes. Expect their set pieces to cause Chelsea problems today so Didier Drogba (who I expect to start) could be busy in his own box defending today.

It really has become a case of all or nothing with Chelsea now. We have to get the win even if we play rubbish today. We just need three points game by game now starting this afternoon. I couldn't care less if we won the game 1-0 and the goal came off someones arse and went in!.

If it was me (and I said it earlier in the week) I would look at the players we have available (no JT or Bosingwa don't forget) and pick the strongest eleven we have and throw the form book out the window. We need plenty of experience and big name/big game players on that pitch today to pull us through this and maybe some of those player HAVE BEEN at odds with our manager, I just hope he realises that he needs them as much as they need him.

So for me I am hoping for the following line up:

Cech, Ivanovic, Luiz, Cahill, Cole, Essien, Ramires, Lampard, Mata, Drogba and Sturridge.

On the bench: Turnbull, Bertrand, Romeu, Meireles, Malouda, Kalou, Torres.

I am a big big fan of Romeu and of Torres but, to get things back on track and to get the win today we need the experience and big big Chelsea players back. Some might agree with me some won't but this is who I would go for today.

So come on Chelsea, pull it together, get yourselves up for this one and shut all the doubters up. It's time to believe in yourselves and more importantly believe in the manager you have and the group dynamic.

Get out there and give us three points!

You have to give credit to AVB.

I think we all agree that being the Chelsea Manager is one of the most difficult jobs to take in the game at the moment. It's right up there with the England Manager's job for me. When you agree to take over the club you are aware of the pressure that comes with it. You know the levels of expectation from the owner, the board and the supporters and if things aren't going your way, the press and media will be on your back constantly.

This is where I have to give credit to AVB for standing his ground and holding his own in recent weeks. We may be questioning his judgement when it comes to dealing with certain players, team selections and substitutions but he is still here, still sitting there in press conferences before and after games answering almost every single question and not hiding away.

Alot is being made of his age and limited experience isn't it and has been ever since he took over. I just wonder if what he is having to deal with now from the media will be the best thing to ever happen to AVB as without question he will come through this a stronger and better manager for it.

There were two key points to his press conference yesterday that I believe could see the start of things beginning to turn round for us. First of all, he stated that he HAD TO answer to Abramovich about his team selection for the Napoli game. Maybe the fact that Roman has demanded an explanation from AVB, it will give AVB a jolt in the right direction and to reaffirm what is required here.

The second point I wanted to make is the fact he openly refused to blame the players yesterday and stated it all comes down to him. Maybe it's his way of building bridges with his players and to get them all onside as he knows they will hear what he has said.

I just hope that we see a much better performance when we need it the most tomorrow from our players and from the manager. You never know, the Napoli result and speculation surrounding it before and after the game could be the turning point in our season and for the manager.

For now though, credit where credit is due AVB!.

Chelsea v Bolton - Who plays - Lampard, Cole and Essien?

It's YET ANOTHER game we simply cannot afford to drop points in. Bolton have nothing really to lose and everything to gain and for Chelsea and AVB, a draw or defeat would pile more and more pressure on us in the battle to finish fourth.

Looking back to the game at The Reebok earlier in the season, Chelsea were on a high and playing fast, flowing, attacking football scoring five. Right now we look like a shadow of the side that took to the pitch that day!.

Bolton have been a jinx for Chelsea at the Bridge and always raise their game against us. They too have their own problems and are fighting for their league survival. They will come here and look to make it difficult for us and will look to hit us with a set piece. Make no mistake, Bolton could be a dangerous side tomorrow and cannot be taken lightly.

So what of Chelsea? We know Bosingwa and Terry are out, Fernando Torres has been suffering with illness and will be assessed tomorrow. Juan Mata has a broken finger but is able to play and it will be interesting to see if AVB recalls the likes of Lampard, Cole and Essien for this one.

So who starts for Chelsea tomorrow? For me, as I said the other day, we have to pick the strongest possible eleven now week in, week out based on the players we have available and NOT based on form. We have been in these situations before and have managed to pull ourselves out of it by playing this way and yes, maybe with the experienced players.

We need results as soon as possible and putting sentiments to one side now, it really is a simple as that.

This is my starting eleven for tomorrow, like I said we have to put personal opinions to one side (even my own) and pick a side that will get us the result:

Cech, Ivanovic, Cahill, Luiz, Cole, Essien, Lampard, Ramires, Mata, Drogba, Sturridge.

What do you people think? Who plays?

Time to call a truce to save Chelsea's season.

Saturday's game against Bolton has now turned into a massive game for our club. The manager is under pressure, certain players are under pressure and as for us Chelsea fans, we are sitting here dreading what's going to happen next aren't we. Who would have thought that Bolton at home would become such a pivotal game in our season? If we drop more points our hopes of a top four finish will take another hit with the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Newcastle looking for us to slip up. Chelsea need a win!

The press are having a field day at the moment when it comes to Chelsea, just like they always do whenever we are struggling for results. Not a single day passes now without some form of headline about the manager or the players and I guess it's expected because of the precedent set over previous seasons.

The simple fact remains that AVB is still our manager and it's time for everyone to pull together. I wrote a post yesterday stating that from here on in, Chelsea need to play the absolute strongest eleven week in, week out if we are to save our season but with that, there has to be a truce called between the manager and players.

The focus has been on AVB and it some part quite rightly so, but it seems that now the players are under scrutiny so it will be interesting to see how they now react to the reports from the other night.

The thing is with footballers, they get paid a ridiculous sum of money to play football and are in a position alot of us could only dream of!. This lot train for a couple of hours a day and that's it!. Maybe some of them need a kick up the arse to get them to focus on the fact that the club comes first and not them!.

I really hope that when all is said and done, our players look at themselves in the mirror and have some pride in themselves and the shirt they are paid to play for. Forget the issues they have at the moment, put them to one side and to agree to disagree BUT to work with the manager. If each player gives 100% in every game and it still isn't working then there will be no one else to blame but the manager.

As for the manager, it seems that now more than ever, with the threat of missing out on Champions League qualification next season, he needs everyone to back him, to play for him and to pull together.

It's time to call a truce to all this crap that is being reported, to refocus on what is the most important thing here and that's OUR CLUB!.

Come and name what you believe is Chelsea's strongest eleven.

Listen there is plenty of debate at the moment about our players, team selection and substitutions etc. Again last night's was surprising and the fall out afterwards prompted me to have yet another rant at our club!.

What I want people to do right now is look at our squad and the players we have, forget form and favouritism, reported player power at the club and tell me what you personally believe to be our strongest eleven and the side that YOU believe can turn things round for us in the League and in the second leg against Napoli.

At the same time I need you to be realistic because right now, we need our strongest side playing week in, week out because at the moment we look a shadow of our former selves don't we.

I will give you an example, the Napoli players were talking of this being the biggest game for them of recent times and that they are underdogs, the whole town was looking forward to the game and why? Because Chelsea ARE feared around Europe for being a strong side, tough to break down and dangerous in attack. Chelsea have world class players.

They must have thought to themselves after the first ten mins or so, "This is not Chelsea!" and that lies our problem.

We need to get a general consensus of opinion here from YOU the fans on this and if it is dramatically different to the side AVB is picking over the last few weeks then obviously there is a problem.

So just to remind you, I want you to look at our squad, forget individual preferences and form because with playing games people will improve and name the side that WILL get Chelsea out of this mess. It's not about putting people in positions now to see how they will do, name THE strongest eleven we have at AVB's disposal right now (bearing in mind JT is out for six weeks!).

I will start:

Cech, Luiz, Ivanovic, Cahill, Cole, Essien, Lampard, Ramires, Mata, Drogba, Sturridge.

Bench: Hilario, Bertrand, Meireles, Mikel, Kalou, Malouda, Torres.

CHELSEA ARE IN A RIGHT MESS - SOMEONE DO SOMETHING!

Just when it seems that we have reached our lowest point it seems to get worse doesn't it. As Chelsea fans all we want to see is our side give a good performance week in, week out just like any other set of supporters in the country. We want to see everyone pulling together as one unit and in the same direction but this is clearly not happening.

Last night is YET ANOTHER demonstration of the mounting problems at Chelsea and I can't help but think that it's all going to come to a head unless something is done about it and as soon as possible.

Now I have had my say on AVB and the game that changed my opinion of him, thought about it and posted that the players are as much to blame as AVB is and to look at it from both sides here.

We watched a game tonight that we should never have lost but we did. Should never had conceded three goals but we did and yet again we are reading of further fallout in the press after the game.

We are now hearing that Ashley Cole, Frank Lampard and Michael Essien were "dropped" from the starting eleven after yet another clear the air meeting with AVB. Apparently according to this article, AVB asked the players to give their views and they would be free to do so, Lampard and Essien did which AVB obviously didn't like but Ashley Cole went one better when he apparently said:

"I came here to win medals and trophies, but I'm never going to do that with your tactics"

He also complained about being made to play like a robot and without his natural freedom.

Now I am as surprised as you are with the selection of Jose Bosingwa ahead of Cole last night. For me, if you are fit enough to be named on the bench then you are fit enough to start the game. Surely AVB can see that Jose Bosingwa has been our worst defender this season and Cole has to be selected ahead of him??.

In an article this morning (linking Rafa Benitez - more on that later on here) comment is made about the "chat" AVB had with Lampard, Cole and Essien before the game to inform them that they were not starting. It is understood within the media that Lampard was "fuming" about not starting the game. When asked about his selection, leaving these three on the bench AVB said:

“I had a conversation with Ashley and Frank. Through the players that they are and the players with the experience they have, they felt they could have helped the team.

That’s perfectly understandable. In the end, Ashley had the opportunity to come on for José Bosingwa with his injury, and Lamps later on in the game. Of course, they were disappointed but they were decisions they have to accept and move on.”

AVB went on to state that leaving Lampard and Essien out was made as a "technical decision" with switching to a 4-2-3-1 formation and when asked about it he also said:

“Whatever explanation I give you, in the end it would be a fantastic explanation if we’d won the game. Any explanation is now useless given the result of the game, so there’s no point.”

For me, it's getting worse and it seems as though AVB isn't helping himself out here either. I have been backing AVB all season long even through our bad performances right up till two weeks ago. I've tried to look at the situation from his point of view but with his team selections I can be nothing but critical now.

Common sense would tell you that with your back up against the wall, with pressure on you to put together a run of results that will get Chelsea back into fourth place in the league and through to the latter stages of the Champions League, you need your players to play for you, you need to be as one unit and Chelsea right now are far from that.

Forget everything else that has been written up till this point, we need to deal with the here and now because Chelsea are now at the stage of the season where we HAVE TO pull it together because if we don't, our financial future could be at risk, it's become that serious.

It's obvious the manager wants to build his own team, it's obvious some players are not who he wants here and it's now blatantly obvious that some players don't want him here. Call it player power, call it whatever you like, something needs to happen before it really is too late. There's a split in the camp that needs to be healed and quickly. Roman Abramovich, Bruce Buck and Gourlay need to sit down and decide if AVB can heal it and fast. If they believe he can then so be it but they must get the message through to the players.

If they don't believe he is, then as per this article in The Telegraph, Rafa Benitez has emerged as a shock contender to be appointed as manager initially to the end of the season if AVB is sacked. There literally is no-one else who is available right now with Champions League experience, speaks English, has knowledge of the players and the Premier League and maybe just maybe, can finally get the best out of Fernando Torres.

I think it's got to a point now for all of us that it has become so bad that something needs to be done and done quickly!. Whatever that is, it's for Roman Abramovich to decide what's best for Chelsea.

Right now, Chelsea are in a right mess!.

Napoli 3-1 Chelsea - Your thoughts on the game?

Chelsea lost tonight 3-1 away in Naples in a strange game that literally was end to end. After a difficult start, Chelsea nicked an away goal after a bobble on a dodgy pitch found Juan Mata who calmly slotted the ball past the keeper to make it 1-0.

With that you'd expect Chelsea to keep their shape try and remain solid and compact but it never happened. Chelsea of old would see these sort of games out and would make it difficult for sides to break us down.

Napoli hit back with a strike from the edge of the box after our midfield sold themselves the wrong side and gave Levazzi the time to line up his shot and place it into the far corner with Cech having no chance.

Right on half time Napoli got their second as Ivanovic was caught ball watching as a cross came floating over from right to left and Cavani stepped in front of Ivanovic on his shoulder and tapped the ball home past Cech who once again had no chance.

Napoli scored their third goal after a ball up front wasn't cleared by David Luiz after Ashley Cole has lost his man, Luiz's attempt at clearing the ball rebounded off Cavani and he was in on goal from wide left, he played the ball square to Lavezzi who slotted the ball home as Chelsea were all over the place!

Chelsea had their chances and so did Napoli with Cole clearing off the line at 3-1, the game was wide open and for the most part Chelsea did OK. However, in important areas once again, Chelsea's defensive frailties cost us once again and we take a 3-1 defecit back to the Bridge.

After watching Napoli you can see how you can break them down and score goals so Chelsea are not out of this tie yet! With the right team selection and performance we can get past this lot and score plenty as they look slow and laboured at the back.

The thing is and once again this season, Chelsea need to sure things up at the back, this has been our major downfall this season and tonight Napoli exposed us. If we don't watch out, with these three up front in the return leg in three weeks time, could they cause us problems again?

Expect more doom and gloom people tomorrow but remember, after watching their defence WE ARE NOT OUT OF THIS TIE YET!

Napoli v Chelsea: We need another big performance tonight!.

Well this is it tonight for Chelsea it really is!. You know that saying "there's a time and a place"? Well it's tonight at 1945GMT and the place is Naples, Italy.

Chelsea need a big, big performance tonight from the players AND the manager. Everyone is waiting for Chelsea to fail, the press are ready to run more stories of doom and gloom and you can imagine the negative headlines that have already been drafted to run in the morning.

I think the problem for us fans is that we find it hard to believe that we aren't playing well, can't find the right flow to our game and winning week in, week out with the players we have at our disposal.

Forget the Premier League tonight, this is a massive test of our metal and we need all our players to stand up. If for any reason some of them don't, we can expect a long night.

I prefer to remember some of our outstanding European performances ahead of this one. Lazio away, Galatasary away, Barcelona at home, Bayern Munich at home and Valenica away have been great nights for Chelsea in this competition and tonight CAN BE the same again.

Napoli will provide Chelsea a tough test tonight with their attacking prowess but in saying that, they will be worried about our threat we have now we have Drogba back.

Fernando Torres will be unlucky to miss out tonight because like I have said over and over again, given the right service he WILL BE unstoppable for Chelsea. The problem is, he isn't getting it so Drogba will start.

Chelsea need to remain solid and compact without the ball and quick with the ball at our feet. A typical style of play in Europe is to slow the game down and take the sting out of the opposition and their fans, Chelsea could start off this way but it's a dangerous game.

Chelsea need to be quick at getting the ball forward to the likes of Mata to pull the strings and Sturridge and Drogba to provide Napoli will all sorts of defensive problems. If we do that, Chelsea can win the game!.

Like I said, it's time to see the real Chelsea stand up tonight and make a bold statement within Europe. We need big performances from our players and especially from our big players!.

Come on Chelsea - let's put in another great performance!

Napoli v Chelsea - Who plays?

Simple question but with a difficult answer as Chelsea simply cannot afford to have the same result as Arsenal did last week in Italy.

We're down in the dumps, struggling for form and taking flack from everywhere as AVB continues to struggle with our players. Like I said yesterday, it's as much the players fault as it is AVB and I am glad people are finally seeing that too.

So what of tonight? You'd imagine the players will be up for this one for many reasons. First of all because it's the best club competition in the world, second of all and despite the situation we find ourselves in right now, those players that have been chasing glory in the competition at Chelsea for around six or seven seasons still have the hunger and desire to put right the wrongs of Moscow and finally, because if some of these players are going to be moved on in the summer, it's the best shop window there is right now!.

I prefer to think that our players are professional enough to realise where we are at and to get behind the manager starting tonight. Chelsea have a fantastic chance to grab a good result tonight and bring them back to the Bridge and I believe we HAVE to play our strongest eleven. Saying that, we have to make sure we are defensively sound at the same time.

So, for me tonight my starting eleven in a 4-2-3-1 formation would be:

Cech, Luiz, Cahill, Terry, Cole, Romeu, Essien, Mata, Lampard, Sturridge, Drogba.

Hopefully JT & Cole will be back in the side to start. Ivanovic isn't cutting it for me at the moment at right back so I would move David Luiz along to play there. Cahill and JT get their chance to play together.

Essien to come in next to Romeu for his experience and his stamina and strength. Lampard in for Meireles again for his experience. Mata and Sturridge continue out wide. The big decision will be Torres or Drogba and if Drogba starts you will see all sorts of headlines tonight. The thing is, this will be a game where Napoli will have a lot of possession and will be dangerous so we will need the big man up front to hold the ball up at times and bring others into play. That's why Drogba gets the nod tonight.

Chelsea CAN win this one out there and take one step into the next round, it's whether they pull together and finally give a good performance only time will tell!.

This is why AVB hasn't been sacked!.

Well it's another week and another massive game coming up for our football club (Chelsea are 1.63 in Champions League betting to progress to the quarterfinals). As expected, the press are out for AVB's neck once again after another rubbish performance at the weekend but as yet it hasn't happened and he is still here.

So it makes me wonder what is going on in the mind of Abramovich?. Being honest, at one stage or another we all have had an eye on the news over the past week waiting to hear about another Chelsea manager being sacked. If you think about it, it would be an easy (and expensive!) option for Roman to take once again but the fact he hasn't acted on the situation we find ourselves in is a surprise.

So let's try and look at things from AVB's perspective here. Could it be that Roman Abramovich thinks that there is a continued trend here at the Bridge and although he has trusted AVB to sort things out, with certain players still there and until they are moved on, AVB will never really be able to put his stamp on things?.

He spoke the other day about the fact that being backed by Roman is what matters and not the players. At the time my reaction was that it was a ridiculous statement to make and of course you have to have the backing of the players. Thinking about it, could that statement be the biggest indication that there will be a major revamp of our squad this summer?

The Mourinho era still haunts each manager that has taken the hot seat since he left us. Scolari struggled with it and the "player power" he claimed existed. Guus Hiddink reverted back to a formation and starting eleven the players knew and felt comfortable with and got the best out of them. Carlo Ancelotti in his first season was up against it until around Christmas time, then after a "team meeting", he chose to revert back to our familiar shape with the same familiar players and we won the double.

Last season, Carlo tried to deviate from the usual players playing and in some games from our usual style and slipped down the table. It was only when once again, certain players came back and played week in, week out that we climbed back up the table.

There is no question Chelsea are in a slump right now and trying to look at things from AVB's perspective, it seems to me that the only way to get things clicking and working again is to bring the same old players back in, to keep them happy but we all know he IS trying to change things here so why should he give in to his philosophy? The ONLY reason would be to save his job by finishing in the top four.

I want to explain my position on AVB here because as regular readers will know, I was right behind him and backed him as our manager up until the Everton performance a week ago. It was that game that I began to change my opinion. However, after watching OUR PLAYERS this weekend, I feel for AVB again I really do.

Alot of people have a pop at his success last season in Portugal and almost brush it to one side as anything but an achievement. What people forget is the European success he had and that is what brought him to the attention of Roman Abramovich and other clubs in Europe. The success he had in Europe cannot be taken lightly, I do believe he is a good manager and given the time to bring in the players HE wants, he can put his stamp on this club.

I do still have my reservations at times with substitutions he makes and the selection of certain players but I have cooled my opinion of him after watching the shower of shit from our players at the weekend.

I firmly believe that Roman Abramovich is quickly running out of patience more so with the players than with HIS manager and this summer will be THE most important period of Chelsea's recent history. Some big, big names that have been a major part of our success here aren't cutting it anymore, are getting older and the club will be taking decisions that are right for the future of this club and not to keep "the click" happy!.

For now, the players that aren't pulling in the same direction as AVB, need to either be benched or put into the reserves and be taught a lesson that no one is bigger than this club. They are employed by Chelsea FC to represent us to the best of their ability if they aren't they simply cannot expect to play for us until they do!.

It's about time this lot sort their bloody lives out and get behind the manager and his ideas. As for AVB he's caught between a rock and a hard place. Does he stick with the ideas he has been trying to implement all season or does he revert to the old faithful starting line up and formation? No matter what, top four is the minimum requirement.

Tomorrow night is huge for Chelsea's season and it will be interesting to see the level of performance from our Chelsea team. Champions League Betting would have us a certainty to go outr this week but, if they "turn it on" tomorrow then questions need to be asked as to why they aren't doing it every week.

The players are the reason AVB hasn't been sacked and it's about time they realise that they are under threat at this club as much as the manager.

Chelsea 1-1 Birmingham - What did you make of the game?

It was disappointing to say the least wasn't it. We were looking for a positive reaction after a traumatic week and being honest we never got what we were looking for. It's been a long time since I heard the amount of boos around the ground as Chelsea walked off at half time. To be fair, they were exactly right and were well deserved.

We got a better reaction in the second half but once again was too little too late. AVB has said he was pleased with our second half and if the penalty went in we would have won the game. To me, we should be winning this game without worrying about whether or not a penalty goes in.

Chelsea lacked urgency, killer instinct and struggled yet again to break a side that comes here in a defensive 4-5-1 formation.

Birmingham played well and deserved their replay. Chelsea simply were not good enough once again and after trying to lift ourselves our of our slump last week, if anything the performance and result has added to it!.

I've had my say, what do the rest of you think?

Chelsea v Birmingham - God help us if we lose!.

I think it's fair to say that as Chelsea fans we are looking for a response after last weekend and the events that have taken place this week. We are looking for a 100% improved performance on the rubbish we had to sit there and watch last weekend, from the Manager and our players.

If Chelsea win the game today, there won't be that many headlines, if the result is the other way around then god help us!. You can imagine it now can't you!.

No disrespect to Birmingham at all but I fully expect Chelsea to win the game today as we have the quality. Birmingham have both their main strikers missing and I think it's fair to say when the draw was made, they are now concentrating on the league and are doing well under Chris Hughton.

The interesting thing for me will be our team selection because of what has reportedly happened this week. Will he pick his strongest side today to get them playing better and use this game as preparation for Napoli in the week? Will he use some players who haven't featured much lately in Romeu, Mikel, Lukaku and Cahill?.

AVB claimed earlier the week that he last "lost part of the dressing room" which to me, seems the beginning of the end for his time here, so it will be interesting to see how the players play today especially if it's not going as planned.

If I was AVB I would go full strength today from the off with a view to making changes later on so as I said in my post yesterday, my team Chelsea prediction this afternoon will be:

Cech, Ivanovic, Luiz, Cahill, Bertrand, Romeu, Essien, Lampard, Mata, Torres and Sturridge.

Let's hope we get a much better Chelsea performance, a win and some goals this afternoon with one for Torres.

Birmingham have nothing to lose and everything to gain from this afternoon. For Chelsea it's the opposite and like I said, god help us if we lose this one!

DROGBA: "I think Drogba SHOULD be joining us, if all goes well".

Nicolas Anelka has been outspoken since he left Chelsea hasn't he. We hardly heard a peep out of him during his time here but since he left he has taken the opportunity to "comment" on how he left the club and now his attention has turned to "his pal" Didier Drogba.

Anelka speaking after being introduced to the Chinese media and press has apparently let slip the fact that it looks more or less certain that this will be Didier Drogba's final swansong at Chelsea this season.

When asked about Drogba, Anelka said:

I personally would like to see Drogba join Shanghai Shenhua, I am frequently in contact with him. I think Drogba should be joining us, if all goes well, but that is not my position to announce.'

The thing is, times are changing at Chelsea and with football in general aren't they. The money being invested in these up and coming leagues is mind blowing and for the likes of Anelka and Drogba who are both in the twilight of their careers, it's an idea opportunity for them to move there to help them grow, while getting paid a small fortune.

We can't blame Anelka for going and the same will be said of Didier Drogba. Drogba says that he wants to stay at Chelsea for another season but whether that happens is another thing.

According to Anelka, the offer has already been made and Drogba will leave us.

Let's wait and see.

AVB admits he has lost the dressing room at Chelsea!

..well some of it anyway which to me is the beginning of the end of his reign here. AVB gave his most difficult press conference of his short managerial career on Thursday ahead of the FA CUP clash tomorrow with Birmingham and as you can imagine, the focus turned from the game to the events at Cobham this week.

AVB's response to me is very honest and very open but at the same time very confusing to me. I will let you read his response to the question of a training ground bust up and players arguing back at him in front of Roman Abramovich.

He was asked if he has lost the dressing room or if there is unrest within the squad at his management of the club and he said:

"The players don't have to back my project, it's the owner who backs my project. I think the owner has full trust in me and will continue to progress with the ideas that we have.

The reason I find this confusing is down to the first part of his quote. He indicates that some of his players do not back or support him in what he is trying to do and it doesn't matter!??

How on earth can it not matter? It's all well and good putting on a front to the media AVB but surely we need to be as one as a group and as a collective to make strides forward from here on in?.

How can you continue to work in an environment with players who do not support your ideas, yet you ask them to go out and play to those ideas and deliver the performance you want? It's a ridiculous scenario we now find ourselves in, it really is!.

Maybe AVB has time to see the season out and get rid of these players who have turned against him and move them on to bring in players that do. This so called click of players we keep hearing rumours about WILL BE disbanded at the end of the season no matter who is in charge.

Listen, on the flip side, I am all for AVB trying to work hard to get EVERYONE on board again like they were at the beginning of the season and to turn this situation we find ourselves in now. If he does manage to do it then as far as I am concerned, he won't ever have to look back. I sincerely hope that IS the case and he can find a way to do so.

But, if we are now seven months into the season and the players have tried your methods and as a result realise that we are in a right mess and in danger of missing out on fourth place this season, what makes us believe that they will change their opinions now?

It's like a situation in our every day lives. You trust someone and as soon as that trust is broken, it's very hard to trust that person again isn't it?. Even if you do eventually, it's never quite the same as before.

I can't help but think that this is now the case at Chelsea and for AVB with our dressing room. I just wonder if things will ever be as they were in the beginning again?.

Chelsea v Birmingham - FA CUP - Who plays?

Right Chelsea fans, after a long week and plenty of headlines, it's time to get back down to business and Saturday's lunchtime kick off against Birmingham.

We know from AVB's press conference that Didier Drogba, Salomon Kalou and Ashley Cole are missing from the game and John Terry has only just started training again this week so could be held back for Napoli next week.

So with that in mind and the winner going through to the FA Cup Quarter Finals, I am wondering who you think should start the game?

This is now the most realistic chance of silverware this season so we have to go for it. We have to play Birmingham the respect they deserve, but really need to put right the wrongs of our season starting Saturday.

I expect AVB to name his strongest possible line up, looking for a response from players that are still HIS players. AVB will go all out to win this one.

So, if it was me I would go with the following eleven:

Cech, Ivanovic, Luiz, Cahill, Betrand, Romeu, Essien, Lampard, Mata, Torres, Sturridge.

There is a temptation to recall the fit again Ramires but I would hold him back for Napoli. Raul Meireles and Jose Bosingwa drop to the bench.

TORRES: "I cannot score!"

Fernando Torres has become the subject of discussion for Chelsea fans, the press and the media because of his inability to hit the back of the net since his £50m move to Chelsea just over a year ago.

Speaking of the year here so far, Torres has given an open and frank interview. He said:

"To be honest, after one year I was expecting things would be better than they are now, It is a difficult situation because I am happy in my personal life. We really like the club and we're very happy here to be involved with the staff and the players.

On the pitch, it is a difficult time for Chelsea because we are not finding the results, but we're changing things like playing a different style and still we have a young team to do it.

Personally, I have to improve. In my time at Liverpool there were games where I would not be playing well or I would be doing nothing but every time I touched the ball, I scored. It's such a strange feeling now because I am feeling better than ever physically. I am not finding the chances and when I do find the chances, I cannot score

My present and my future are here. I have many things to do here and I want to do it because I always did what I wanted in every club I've been at, so this is not going to be different."

Nothing more than honesty from Torres. The thing is, I still believe in him like I have said many times on here before, once he gets the service, he will be sensational for us.

The fact he has admitted that he is struggling, things surely can only get better!

Hitting Las Vegas with Your Mates

Las Vegas is famous for its strippers, gambling, cheap food and alcohol, tolerance of wild behaviour (to a point!) and the saying, “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas!” This vast city of lights, sex, gambling and excess is Disneyland for adults, a playground for grownups that will leave you breathless with the number of things to do, see and experience. Pressure on Abramovich - What will he do?

Roman Abramovich has had an "interesting" few days being back at Cobham hasn't he. Being present for the most part last week and taking an interest in training, to then watch the performance we gave on Saturday at Goodison and to then hear the Manager speak of not preparing the team properly must have been a real eye opener.

If I was the owner I would struggle with that statement from AVB, as supporters I think we all did knowing that he had been preparing the side with Roman there watching and listening to him say that.

Abramovich would have then seen first hand, the reported training ground bust up on Sunday as AVB cancelled the players day off and called them into Cobham for a bollocking. He would have also seen how the players "reportedly" reacted to AVB and gave him the same back!.

Alot is made of how much money Abramovich spends on Chelsea and managers in particular but we have to remember that he is doing it for the good of club, no one is bigger.

So after everything that has happened over the last few days, you have to wonder what Roman intends to do. I like many of you, would not have been surprised to hear of another managerial casualty at Chelsea this week but it hasn't happened so far.

However, with "reports" from so called "Chelsea sources" some of the established players have called for Roman to act and re-appoint Guus Hiddink to save our season but, it's being reported that Anzhi Makhachkala have offered Hiddink a massive £8m a year contract to take over as their manager and want an answer by the end of the week!.

Roman knows we are at our lowest point, he has seen first hand the tension at the training ground and would have watched certain performances from Chelsea this season and sees that we are a team struggling and a team that could potentially miss out on Champions League football this season.

He has invested in AVB, he wants him to take us forward and at the moment with two big games coming up in the FA CUP and Champions League, we have a chance (slim of course) of winning them. If we lose both ties we literally have no silverware yet again and could find ourselves without European football for the first time in years. This would have a major effect on our finances and attracting players to our club.

What will Roman do? Does he stick or does he twist?

Chelsea fans we've been down in the dumps this week haven't we!. We've had our moans and our rants and have suffered all week so far knowing that we've reached our lowest point of the season.

So I thought (as I am sitting here at 0235 in the morning) that it's time to put some things into perspective and try and focus on some good times before the weekend.

So do me a favour, don't click that button and go anywhere else for 4 minutes, ignore the phone, ignore that important email that has just come into your mailbox and more importantly that "thing" you need to do or should have done by now and watch the video below.

This Video was recorded in 1997 when we were celebrating just getting to a FA CUP final! Back then, something like that for Chelsea was huge! Just think of how far we have come!

This is the ONLY video of this one I could find!. Click and watch on YT and come back here to post any comments you have.

The most important part I want you all to remember is the lines:

We've waited so long and we'll wait forever, our blood is blue and we will leave you never, and when we make it, it will be together!"

Bearing in mind the "situation" we find ourselves in, I couldn't have said it better myself!
