How to make a necklace in less than 5 minutes.

Seriously.

5 minutes. Tops.

At the last minute, I needed a little gift and I needed it quick.

I had these Wooden Charm Pendants from Wholeport.

Are you familiar with Wholeport? Besides all the essential craft supplies you need, they have so many unique and fun items.

All I did was glue the charm on a round metal pendant using E-6000.

(They're in the jewelry section of Hobby Lobby and come in a pack of 5 or 6. They're used for metal stamping.)

Add a jump ring and attach it to your necklace. I had the ribbon cord that is also available through Wholeport.

These would be perfect for gift bags at a little girls party. Or for that matter, even a big girls party!

Monogram Patchwork Pillow Tutorial

I received the most beautiful bundle of fabric last week from Clothworks and with all of the fat quarters that were in it, I was able to make 2 pillows.

Don't you love those colors?!

Here is the fabulous bundle I received:

This collection is Sophie by Skipping Stones Studio.

I love the way all the fabrics coordinate so beautifully and wanted to make something that incorporated all of them together.

That's when my daughter-in-law, Jennifer, suggested (hinted) that since the colors match her living room perfectly, I could make pillows with a "W" on them.

Jennifer is married to our son, Josh, and they have Jalynn, Jordyn, and Jace.

Perfect, 2 pillows using all the fabric with a "J" on one and a "W" on the other!

I had 2 pillow forms that were 12" x 16" so all the dimensions in this tutorial fit that size of pillow.

For the front I cut six 5" squares of 2 different fabrics and sewed them together. Be sure to iron your seams open afterwards.

You could leave the front in just the patchwork, but we wanted them monogrammed, so I cut out and appliqued my letters on each front.

I did a tutorial on how I applique Here.

For the back of the pillow, cut 2 pieces of fabric 17" x 10 1/2" and hem one long side on each piece.

With right sides together, sew one of the back pieces to the front on the 3 outside edges.

Clip corners.

Then sew your other back piece over the first piece and to the front and sew those 3 outside edges.

You can now turn everything right side out through the overlapped pieces in the back.

And that's where you'll insert your pillow form.

End result: 2 perfectly coordinated pillows!

This is my favorite way to make pillow covers because they can be taken off and washed when needed.

Before we start, I want to say thank you and send you all a huge hug for all your kind words and heartwarming sentiments and prayers that you sent our way after last week's post.

The Memorial Service was Monday and everyone is coping and trying hard to hang in there. As many of you know, the grieving process is long and hard, but Christina seems to be having more good moments than bad right now. We're all family and here for her and will do everything in our power to get her through this. Again, thank you for all your support!

Here's my disclaimer:

This is just for fun and nobody will enjoy it more than Greg. You know, basic family loving fun.

When that TV show $h*! My Dad Says with William Shatner came out a few years ago, the kids and I said we would have been rich if we had just thought of it first.

Greg is funny. I mean, really funny and most of the time he doesn't even realize he's being funny with what he says. We call them "Papa-isms" and always say we should write them down in a book.

So for Father's Day, Greg is getting an altered clipboard for us to keep track of his "Papa-isms".

I took a wooden clipboard and painted around the outside edges.

Then mod-podged paper to it. This was the hardest part of the whole thing, getting that paper up and under the clip part.

The comic bubble is out of eraser board vinyl. I got a great deal on it and chalkboard vinyl through Pick Your Plum. I can't wait for them to offer it again so I can stock up on some more of both.

The decorating is the fun part.

We're going to have so much fun with this!

Before we start the party, I feel like you all are my friends and have always been so supportive.

Our family could sure use some prayers right now. I've shared a lot about our son, Brandon, and his girlfriend, Christina. From the moment we met Christina a few years ago, we fell in love with her and consider her a daughter to us.

Along with Christina, her brother Kyle and her Dad Robert quickly became a part of our family, also. In fact, we were just with Robert last Saturday at one of Brandon's softball games.

This morning was devastating. Christina got the call that her Daddy had passed away during the night in his sleep. There are still a lot of unanswered questions, but they think so far that it was a heart attack. Robert was only 51. He was the kindest and most loving man that God has ever placed on this earth.

My heart is breaking for Christina and so wish that I could do something to ease her pain, even for just a little while. Please pray for her and also for Brandon who is giving her such loving support. Greg and I are trying so hard to stay strong for them, but I've got to tell you, it's tough.

RIP, Robert, my friend.

Christina, your Daddy will live forever in your heart and will always be looking after you in Heaven.

We love you.

Flip Flop Necklaces

Need a quick and fun summer necklace?

How about flip flops?

Guess what they're made out of.

Erasers from the Dollar Store and a cute little lip gloss flip flop that I found in the gift shop when Greg was in the hospital.

The only real crafting you have to do is glue a bail on the back. That's it.

I've had several people ask me where I buy the round bails. I get mine at Hobby Lobby and if you watch their sales, they're half price every other week.

Add a necklace of your choice, and you're done.

This one is my favorite. Love the fact that it's lip gloss!

(I'm thinking I may need to make a little trip back to the hospital gift shop for more.)

Homemade Jewelry Cleaner

My husband is going stir crazy here at home recovering from his shoulder surgery. He's not able to work or do any projects around the house, yet, so he's just searching for little things that he can do.

Which brings me to the basket that has been sitting on top of our pantry for years. He decided to look and see what all has been accumulating up there and clean it out. Which by the way, he said I should have done years ago. Yeah, whatever.

Besides the 50 rolls of film (can I even get these developed anymore?), he found some rings and a baseball charm.

To say they were disgusting would be an understatement and that picture is even after I tried to clean them with your everyday cheapo jewelry cleaner.

I got on Pinterest and started looking around for jewelry cleaner and apparently I'm the last person on the planet to hear of this recipe to make your own cleaner. I didn't pin it because almost every one of them was the same recipe.

1 Tbsp salt

1 Tbsp baking soda

1 Tbsp dish detergent (I used Dawn.)

1 cup water

Small piece of foil

All you do is heat your water in the microwave for 2 minutes and then add all all the other ingredients.

Lay your foil on the bottom of the bowl and soak your jewelry in there for 10 minutes.

Immediately after, rinse in cold water.

These two did pretty good, but the others...

were actually shining!

My wedding ring is even sparkly again.

Oh, and so is every other piece of jewelry that I could find in the house!

Yes, my friends, we have yet another addition to my beachy bathroom.

Okay, that's not my bathroom, but it will be hanging in there by the end of this post.

Those finished white letters (minus the starfish) were recently on sale at Hobby Lobby.

They were way too bright and white for what I wanted them for, so I bought this antique linen Distress Ink.

It's a subtle change, but getting better.

I needed a little more something, so I used walnut stain to add to it.

I rubbed the walnut around the edges and blended a little in on the rest of the letter.

Because these letters were finished, it took about a day for the ink to dry.

After they dried, I sealed them with mod-podge and glued the starfish on.

That one little skinny spot on the wall is it's new home. I used Mounting Tape to put them up.

(Somebody really needs to do a little touch up painting on those knicks on the wall.)

A couple more added touches to the bathroom.

Our bathroom remodeling is slowly but surely coming to an end. Finally.

All the big things are done (except the tub), so now it's just a matter of decorating.

I started adding the bamboo as trim to the top of the shower stall last week. I kind of thought I was finished, but now I'm thinking I need to add it down the sides, too.

I really don't want to because that bamboo is a pain in the butt to work with. I think I'll put off my trip to Hobby Lobby for more and keep looking at it for a few more days.

Maybe I'll change my mind. Again.

Then there was this matter about plain black sconces.

A little Rustoleum spray paint took care of the color, but even with the candles, it was too blah.

Then I remembered the grass (or whatever it is) that I made Here and it changed the whole look.

Yeah, I'm loving it!

That's more the true color of the whole room in that photo. It's so hard to take pictures in a bathroom!

Teachers are a Work of Heart

Earlier this week I shared some Teacher Gift Ideas so I thought I would show you what I made for one of the kids to give to their teacher this year.

I scored a whole box of colored pencils at a garage sale at a preschool recently and decided to use up some of them on a frame.

You are never going to believe where I made this frame at.

That's right. A hospital room.

After Greg's shoulder surgery, he slept a lot at first, so I was so glad I had packed up some craft supplies the night before we left for the hospital. I had my own little craft corner in there.

Because this was a last minute decision, I forgot to take a lot of pictures. The night before I had Greg cut my pencils to fit the frame.

I had this little wood frame from Hobby Lobby in my stash.

I painted the frame blue and glued the pencils on with Aileens Fast Tacky Glue.

I mod podged cork scrapbook paper to the wood backing that came with the frame and then mod podged the teacher quote I printed out on top of it. The hearts are brads that I glued on.

I love that the pencils came from a preschool and aren't perfect. I think the little marks on them give it character.

I'm starting our party early this week because I'm still at the hospital with Greg.

He had his shoulder replacement on Monday morning and when the doctor got in there, there was a lot more damage than what had showed up in the MRI. Besides the replacement, he had to have part of his clavicle taken off , bicep repair and a ton of cleaning and scraping.

He's going to be fine and the doctor said he would now have a bionic shoulder when all of this is said and done. The hard part is, he's in a lot of pain and will be for quite some time, along with months of physical therapy.

We originally thought he would be able to come home on Tuesday, but now they have to get his pain under some control before they'll send him home.

God love him, he still has his sense of humor and still worrying more about the kids and me than he is about himself.

So....while I'm sitting in a hospital room I want you all to party and show off all your awesome ideas, creations, and recipes so I have something to look through. Think of it as a 2 day idea fest!

Blast from the Past: Lobster Tails Frame

Alert the media. We finally finished all the tiling in our main bathroom!

There's still odds and ends to finish up, but the tile is down and the new vanity and stool are installed. We're waiting on the Clawfoot Tub to be refinished and that bamboo you see in the corner is going to be used for some trim.

In the meantime, I'm grabbing all the beachy items in the house to use to decorate along with a few new projects.

I thought this would be a good time to repost a frame I made in 2011. It's still out in another room, but I'm thinking it will end up in here.

Anyway, here is the post I did in July, 2011.

Lobster Tails and Clam Shells

It's happened. I've sunk to an all time low in the name of crafting. Greg and I went out to eat the other night and I brought home our lobster tails and clam shells (Yuck!) when we were finished with them.

I did, I wrapped them in a napkin and put them in my purse!

When I got home I boiled them again and washed them with soap and water.

I had this black frame with 4 sections so I painted and sanded it.

I used sand scrapbook paper and then glued the shells on the front of the frame. I had the little white shells that I used for the center of the flower.

I've used lobster tails to make flowers before, but always when we ate them at home. I've never wrapped them up from a restaurant and brought them home. I'm sure the people near us thought I was crazy! No, I'm not nuts, just a crafter.
